This Safeway location is one of the nicer/newer ones I know! It opened just last year at Village Oaks Plaza and it's pretty big! Best thing is that they're organized and they have a self-check out station! Makes everything a bit faster than waiting in long lines for the cashier. I also get asked often by baggers if I need help with taking my groceries to the car which is very nice of them! This location also has a gas station which I've never seen any other Safeway's around the area have. Prices are also pretty decent compared to brand named gas stations. My family and I also get sushi from here whenever we have a random craving but not up to go/wait at a restaurant. Yup, that's right; sushi! You wouldn't think the sushi would be that great coming from a non-Japanese restaurant but it's actually not that bad at all! They have a great selection for decent prices from $7.99+. The fish tastes fresh and the sushi chef is always friendly every time I come here. I always ask for a extra spicy mayo and they are more than happy to give it to me for free! Also, they have a Starbucks and a olive bar with great looking selections. I'm not really into olives but they actually looked good! This location also opens 24/7! The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the parking lot. I feel like they could have paved it better because it just feels cramped up for such a big area. But other than that.. Fresh produce, clean area and the setting in the store is BEAUTIFUL. They have a Starbucks, Pharmacy, Deli, Bakery, Self Check out Machines, and Safeway Gas Station! Safeway Gas: Super cheap and affordable. Use your card and you get 10c back (How awesome is that?! Most of the time we get CHARGED for using our card when we swipe!) Just like Costco, use your Safeway card/number and you get a certain percentage (I forgot how much.. I shall update when I find out) back to spend! :) Everything about this Safeway is amazing, to their design and the look of the building. For some apparent reason when I am walking through the parking lot I feel like I am in another world lol. (Tell me why I feel that way I am not sure) Need I say not only do they sell food and produce.. they sell SAN JOSE SHARKS, WARRIORS, 49ERS, AND SF GIANTS GEAR here too?!!!! AyYYYyy lol those are my teams right there!! They have their own section for fans (like me) and their apparel! *fan girling!!!* -1 Star for the parking space/lots.. they could design/add more lots. It's a bit tight and could be challenging to find parking so be AWARE! I'm so glad this Safeway is much closer on this side to SJ for the South.. there's not much grocery stores around there anyways besides Rite Aid down the street but still doesn't do justice lol. I used to love this location, but a recent situation occurred that has pissed me off to the point where I don't want to go back. My husband and I, along with our 15-month old, came to this location to grab sandwiches and a couple of grocery items. He stood in line at the deli to order our sandwiches and I took the cart, with my baby, to grab a couple of boxes of mac and cheese and an energy drink. I went to the self-checkout and decided I didn't need a bag for so few items. Placed them back in my cart and went to meet my husband at the deli. I wanted a fountain drink, so my husband ended up paying for the sandwiches at the deli. Great! So we went to leave, and as we were going through the exit, my cart's wheels abruptly locked on me, jarring both me and my kid, and holding up the people behind us who were trying to leave. This had never happened before, so I thought it was a mistake and kept trying to move through the door when the cart guy came up to us and started hassling us about paying for our items. My husband told him that we paid. This guy KEPT ON, aggressively asking us if we'd paid. I was mortified and showed him our deli receipt, after which he very reluctantly unlocked the cart's wheels. This guy had apparently seen us walking away from the deli and assumed we hadn't paid for our sandwiches. He took it upon himself to REMOTE LOCK our cart and prevent us from leaving the store so that he could hassle us. I understand that this store has a problem with theft (I've witnessed people running out of the store and cashiers or whovever chasing them down), but I would HAPPILY have shown this jerk a receipt up front had he asked. There was absolutely NO reason to LOCK my cart with no warning. I've never seen that happen to ANYONE before. read more

As far as cleanliness, selection, and options available here, this location gets 5 stars from me. At times, the deli can be a bit slow but usually they're quick to service so I won't dock them as I know we all have bad days. What else I love about this store: - Craft beer aficionados! They have a decent selection here, which is awesome to see more mainstream grocery stores like Safeway upping the ante and supplying them, although it sucks for the mom and pop liquor stores. - Bulk bins for grains, beans, etc, and loose leaf teas, that sell by the pound. - Fresh olive bar - Sushi counter with delicious looking selection - Self Check Out lines!!! (I can't emphasize how much I love these). - Starbucks in-house, with friendly service (thus far) - They are open 24/7 =D They also have a little sports team clothing section with the local teams: GSW, Giants, and A's. This is a nice place to shop, but be careful when parking here and especially at night. Be on the lookout for a tow truck in the parking lot. Those bastards are notorious for randomly towing unsuspecting and innocent owners' cars on a whim. Discovering your car is missing after buying groceries will certainly ruin your shopping experience. They must tow many cars on a daily basis to remain employed. They are a family-owned business, but are really partners in crime. Be vigilant whenever these tow trucks are in the vicinity, in order to avoid becoming the next victim of a costly fine that you did not deserve. No car is safe if they are present because they don't discriminate. If you arrive there late at night before closing, it is less crowded and you will not have to wait in line to use a self-checkout register. read more

I'm giving this Safeway one start because lack of service. They are always out of water. The label tags are never updated, the employees do not wear mask. The manager jenni is completely rude and uses profanity on the aisle and smells like a bag of cigarettes and not only that they ran out of of turkeys the week of thanksgiving and parking is awful. read more

I love Safeway but not the bakery lady. I think her name is Lisa. I went to place an order for a small cake and cupcakes. She had the attitude of a worker who doesn't want to be there and it showed! I wanted a small baseball cake and right off the back she said they can't do it and that I would have to talk to the main baker who is on vacation and won't be back for two more weeks. Then she went to the back and asked another lady and she said they can do it, (thank god the other lady was there cuz I wouldn't have gotten the cake) all this with attitude. I just wanted to get my order with. When my friend went to pick it up the day if she said one of the workers not sure if it's the same lady or not but still with the same attitude. Next time I'll take my business somewhere else when it comes to custom cakes. Other than the bakery I love everything else about Safeway. I like having a Safeway card and using my point for gas! The produce was so fresh and they had a wonderful selection. The staff's attitude was comparable to Disney lol. Everyone was smiling, offered to helped, asked if I wanted to sample things and even stopped me on the way out to ask if my son wanted a balloon. The manager informed me that we are unable to fulfill my online order for a lobster tail for pickup. Nevertheless, the lobster is still for sale at the shop. They also automatically cancelled my order. The lead and the manger were rude with me and another consumer.Never return to that store again. read more

The new Safeway just opened and it's a great looking store. There is a lot of selection for fresh food and it is nice and organized. I stopped in to pickup some turkey breasts on sale. Everything was clearly marked and I used the self checkout. The parking lot was a little crazy so be careful when you back out. read more

One of the worst Safeway's I've ever been to, every morning I go in people are blasting music in the isles and there's never a checker to be found you have to go literally ask them to come and check you out after you find them, I don't know why people don't take their professional jobs in customer service serious anymore. This is my Safeway. I live less than a mile and so happy that it's opened as we do not have to go far to do our groceries plus get gas... yes that's gas for our cars. We do the usual $100, $100plus a week at Safeway and then get .10 off each gallon of gas at the gas station right there. That's a win-win for me. remember to use the safeway app and especially the Just for U for additional savings on things you need/buy every week. There's also a starbucks in this Safeway so get your drink before you start shopping. This week, Just for U had a free tall coffee drink! score! I had a party for my daughter this last weekend and need some food and dessert, no problem. order 50 fried chicken = $40, cake = $45, 3 dozen cupcakes = $20. Did it a few days in advance, when i went to pick it up, all ready for me so i was in and out in less than 10mins. convenient is their middle name. read more

Not WIC friendly. There are no signs stating anything is WIC approved. There is absolutely no service in the store, so you can't use your APP. When you ask for assistance, nobody knows what is WIC approved either. They don't have a binder for you to look at to help you shop. Stood at the customer service desk for over 20 minutes while the employees just helped other customers because they didn't care about me or the fact that nothing was marked for WIC customers. One of the newer Safeway locations that opened in this area due to all the new housing and apartments that are being built in San Jose these days. Nice thing is that there is a Safeway Gas Station nearby. Overall, seems like the aisles and departments are pretty well organized and so are the checkout lanes. I haven't had trouble finding what I need the last several times I stopped in. This Safeway is conveniently located off Highway 85 and Cottle. Again, with the huge development going on around the area, this is sure to be a popular market to shop at! read more

Besides their gorgeously organized produce, here are a few things this Safeway has: - a huge selection and of cheese - olive bar - Starbucks - deli - eating area - lots of prepared salads and cut fruit - decent bakery - a floral department - dry cleaning services - A GAS STATION!!! Cons: - Parking sucks! It's so crowded. There's too many stores here and not enough parking. - it's so crowded in there and not too much room to maneuver. - I had to wait in line for a good 15minutes even though there was only 3 people in front of me. And the rude employees stocking and blocking every aisle with crap makes it impossible to navigate. This location is probably as bad as the location in San Francisco when it comes to parking. There is no parking here ever! The individuals that work at the deli never follow instruction and their produce has a lot to be desired for. The Safeway also happens to be significantly more expensive than the other safe ways that are nearby. I do give it three stars because it is conveniently located, they have a wide selection of wines and beers, their baked goods I'll is OK, and they have good store hours. read more

What I like about the Safeway is that it is spacious, well laid out with a great variety of items and a staff that clearly is motivated to make this store a great experience for the customers. What I don't like, it's their fault. It's the parking. Most of the spots near the store are reserved for clean air fuel and compact cars. This caused such a problem at the Target in this area, they eventually repainted the spots. If you park on the other side of the lot, you may not be able to take your cart to your car, because the carts have electronic locks. Doh! read more

I've shopped here for years and loved it. But of late the cashiers for the most part are rude. There are some awesome ones! Today I did my part scanned and DL the silly coupons and was reprimanded when I questioned at check out. Still didn't get the avocado discount. With Smarti and Final coming in at snell and blossom hill there is reason for Safeway to be concerned. You are a higher end store and need to represent that. This Safeway is decent in my opinion and has very good stock of everything. I never had any issues with things I needed to grab at this particular location, and they have self check out kiosks that are fast, easy and convenient to buy everything. I know alcohol can't be bought at self checkouts, but they do let you buy gift cards at self checkout, an associate just needs to do an override for you. That is definitely a huge plus because sometimes you just have 1 or 2 items and this helps save a great deal of time. Will be back to shop here. read more

From the last time I left a review there was no improvement so I stopped using their drive up and go all together and shop my self and good thing I did because one of the males he was Caucasian was casually picking his nose as he's walking down the isle pushing his big cart.. that's so gross and it's not like he had a hand sanitizer near by to clean his fingers no!! He just casually wipes it on his shirt and move on..all that occurred as I was walking pass by him with other shoppers in the isle I was so speechless I looked around and saw the same reaction with the rest of the customers in that isle..that's so ridiculous and unsanitary especially when he's picking peoples produce and groceries. I believe the young man's name was "THOMAS" or at least that's what it says on his name tag I don't even truly know if that's his name but that is so disgusting, picking your nose in front of customers without a care in the world like it's normal to do like us paying customers want to receive booger'ed up produce and groceries.. like I said their drive up and go used to be so awesome but it's just gone down. Good luck getting your orders done on time while having all the items you ordered and I guess just pray to god the person picking your groceries didn't shove his fingers up his nostrils while he was picking your items. DISGUSTING DO BETTER!! At least tell your employees to not pick their noses in front of customers, if he's doing that while he's shopping for customers then he's definitely also doing that when he puts our groceries in our vehicles. Well they did it again. You have to be very careful when purchasing their weekly ad items. Today I went there and bought the advertised mega size pack of ground beef. I listed the mega pack as $2.49 at checkout, $3.99 for non members. After getting home I noticed I was charged the $3.99 price because my mega pack was only 5.07 pounds and the small print in the ad said 6.0 lbs. So I lost $7.50 which doesn't seem like a lot, but this has happened many times with other listed weekly ad items. Once I purchased water for I thought $1.99 but it said in very small print, on-line orders only. Next time I shop at Safeway, I will stand at the check out stand and read every line of the receipt before leaving the line. read more

This is a big Safeway. It has everything you would expect in a Safeway. The produce is fresh. Always stocked. There's also a gas station on site. Everything is always stocked and well lit. If you get the safeway app, you can use it to continue your discounts. Because of its location, it is a busy grocery store and the parking lot is always full. Sometimes, it's a bit frustrating looking for parking during their busier times. But, that doesn't deter me from coming here compared to some of the other local grocery stores around Cottle. read more

I went online to order groceries and was willing to do pickup or delivery. I went through the whole process got my account, selected my items etc. went to my cart to check first chose delivery most compliant way to do it. That didn't work so then selected pickup that didn't work. So I ended up having to go out. Go in the store. Walk around with all these people and get my groceries. I haven't hoarded so don't have a house full of stuff I'll never use. Come on Safeway you need to be a better partner in keeping COVID 19 in check. Provide the actual service you offer. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE. So this location is actually farther away for me than the one on Brahnam, but I hop on the freeway and make the drive because it is so worth it. Absolutely worth the drive for two reasons..one, the staff! Lorenzo who works at the Deli is so polite, kind and helpful! I come to this location 1-2 times a week and see Lorenzo almost every time. He always greets me with a smile and helps me. Sometimes at the deli there can be a few people waiting to be helped, but he is always so courteous to every one and very patient. Also, he was the one who told me about how Safeway switched to Boares Head Meat and since then, I cannot buy anything else. He really is my favorite person because he is so nice! I keep my grocery list on my phone and whenever I come to THIS SAFEWAY ONLY, phone barely wotks. Safeway coupon scanner doesn't work. It's as if you're blocked from all Internet functions once you enter the store. You h Ave to remember to open your app b4 entering or you're screwed. I've told management and employees who say they are also frustrated about it but nothing they can do. Then I purchased a pair of readers with loose screw from the Almaden store and brought them back to thus store with receipt for a refund because this is the main store I shop at. Was told they couldn't take it back and to go back to Almaden store - REALLY? ?? AFTER PATIENTLY WAITING FOR 15 MINUTES IN LINE???? Too many annoyances at this location. Especially the parking lot. A big part of the lot is tow away because there's a large apartment complex right there so it's for their tenants only. Very hard to find parking most of the time. Wear comfortable shoes. read more

Dead zone for Verizon Wireless users. I always make sure to screen shot my recipe ingredients because the websites never load when I'm in the store. Minor issue. Produce is the best I've seen for Safeway locations. Parking lot is a nightmare but that's not really Safeway's fault. Either come really early and avoid late at night because it gets sketchy. Have witnessed two purse snatching. Checkers are ALWAYS nice. The floor employees are NOT helpful. I walked up to 2 employees (name-tag Marlene) talking. Politely waited (2 min) for them to acknowledge me. I didn't want to interrupt them talking about their personal issues. Asked where the to find the Dry Sherry (standing in the alcohol section) and they said they didn't know. Pointed to the alcohol area and said it's probably in there somewhere. I am self sufficient but hoping for a bit of help as I had a handful of groceries with my 4 year old in tow. Was hoping to have some help as we all know how toddlers can be. Mommy could use some help! Neither employee were willing to help after telling me the employee who works the wine/alcohol area doesn't work on the weekend. And that I can go to the front and ask for help there. I ended up doing it myself. Of course after 5 min I found it. Forgot to mention I am not a big drinker and needed dry sherry for a recipe. I just met, in person, Justin, the manager. He advised me that he had spoken to his employees and also told me that if I had further problems to let him know. I should preface this review by saying that I never write reviews. The new shopping community that has sprung up in the immediate area (new Costco, Target, Starbucks, etc) is lovely, which is why I don't mind coming to this Safeway on Cottle Road in San Jose from time to time when in the area. However, my recent shopping trip to this Safeway has left a very sour experience. I went online to see if I could provide some constructive feedback for corporate. But instead, I unexpectedly and immediately came upon another recent Yelp reviews (dated July 3, 2018 below) where two customers also appeared to have experienced very similar discriminatory treatment at this store. It is really disheartening to know that instances like this occur frequently at this store, but also makes one question the values of the management team. I was asked to present a receipt for the items in my cart WHILE INSIDE THE GROCERY STORE. I was never followed around but a courtesy clerk (Vincente) approached me after I went through the cashiers and asked me if I had proof of purchase of the groceries in my cart. What made it more strange was the floral associate came out from behind the counter and joined in the alleged accusation/perception that a customer stole from the store, again while inside the store. Another associate (young man) wearing a Safeway apron came and asked me what was going on, and his response to me was "well, this is just your side of the story." This all is already very abnormal behavior and interaction. What's most amusing was that the accuser was verbally hostile in justifying his/their right to check me. When requested to see the store manager, he snarked, "go find them yourself!" What's also amusing is that the courtesy clerks and the floral clerk didn't even care to look diligently at my receipt (wouldn't you want to check the date, store number, and item by item because any common sense would dictate doing so if you are trying to build a case against someone)....so....what if a customer just waived an old receipt or random piece of paper? The front check-out manager from the cashier came over and asked me to step aside from their verbal commotion. She was very calm and very apologetic - pointing out how the Safeway in Mountain View is currently facing litigation for a similar incident. This is pretty unbelievable, especially when technology has gifted us with real-time purchase transaction records and security cameras inside the store to prove a customer's case. This is ripe for a sure-win litigation if a customer chooses to take action. I have never experienced this at any other Safeway location in the Bay Area. I was in such disbelief by this ridiculousness that it never occurred to me at that moment that I should have just immediately returned everything from my cart with my receipt (they can loose my business). If a business believes that all the patrons that come through the door are thieves, then why open your doors for business - it is not good for brand building and customer retention. I will no longer shop at this Safeway on Cottle Road, Santa Teresa, SJ. I am utterly disappointed but can only hope that changes can be made for the better, not just for Safeway, but for the betterment of the community too. read more
