We visited here for Obon and stopped by the market to get some snacks and drinks. Amazing collection of food, snacks, household items, cooking/seasoning items, and produce given the small space. I really appreciate how they have hot/fresh foods available for an affordable price. They have these yuzu and mitsuya ciders that I miss getting from the vending machines in Japan. It was super busy because of the festival but inside still had AC and the cashiers checked out as best as they could despite the heavy foot traffic.
Love popping into Nijiya because I know I'll find my staples & more! The rotating displays at the store entrance are my favorite - always colorful & the range of products is always neat to see. Tip: Don't miss the prepared food section - the selection is great! And check out the home goods aisle for neat plates, bowls, mugs, & adorable accessories.
I love my local Nijiya :). It is smaller than most locations but I always get what I need regardless. Staff are always friendly and helpful, and the store is well stocked. I come here for nikujaga ingredients, thin meat cuts, snacks, and drinks. Love the food selection like sushi as well. My favorite is finding little gems like these mini beignets with yuzu filling. Ate them all in one sitting and still drooling!
Nijiya is where you go when you're in japan town and want to grab dinner in 7 minutes. What I got: * Edomae nigiri sushi set ($13.29) * Cup Noodle Curry * Pepsi Big Cola (the Japanese one just tastes sooo good) In the nigiri set, there was octopus, squid, shrimp, tuna, AND salmon. My favorite nigiri's in the set was squid and salmon fresh. Rice ratio was solid and it was cheap! We also picked up Cup Noodle Curry. Apparently I heard it's hard to get in the states. Cannot confirm nor deny. It's a cute small market. You walk in. You grab. You pay. You leave. Not much of a wait.

I've been visiting off and on for decades. Tiny Japanese grocery store in San Jose Japantown has lots of delicious foods at the deli area and more. Must love. Cashiers are always welcoming and friendly, ready to assist as needed. Aisles are very narrow, and it's easy to miss out on sales or small items on shelves if walking too fast. Today, I finally spent a good 30 minutes checking them out. Purchased some fresh organic soybeans on sale, edamame items, seaweed rice seasonings, sauces, etc. Excellent quality. Prices aren't cheap these days, so you really need to take time to browse around inside this narrow store environment. Inventories are very clean and organized. Saw many newer flavored snacks and chocolates. Good packaging. Kitchenware items are noticeably high in prices now, but wow, they still have those unique design cute cat/rabbit/doggy/animal prints on them/cute plates/bowls/dishes/etc. You can find very tiny packs of food items too. This grocery store is ideal for students and quick grab and go experiences. Soup items are always worth checking out. I also still like their pickled vegetables in the far back side of aisle next to deli area. Good selections on shelves. Good quality ingredients. Line starts behind one of the middle aisle area. Still loving it here. Good clean stop in Japantown. Worth it.
It had been awhile since I last stopped into Nijiya Market. So, I went shopping and got a small snack of a Kombu Onigiri. Oishii!!!
Whenever I'm in dire need of food, I know I can always rely on Nihiya Market! They have fresh sushi, snacks and fruits and veggies. It's also FREEZING cold in there all year round, so it's great in the summer, but in the winter, I'd freeze to death. hee This particular afternoon, I got some spicy California rolls bento box! My friend and I ate it around the corner and I got a Hawaiian Lilikoi drink that was cold and perfect for the weather. Everything was clean and organized within the store and I'll definitely be back again!
Been a longtime time customer for over 10 years. Upgrade to 5 stars they have great bargains from poke bowl, sushi, bento, vegetables, bowls, fruits, snacks much more at a tremendous savings. I seldom dine out at Japanese restaurants serving sushi or ramen at a hefty price usually it's a non-Japanese cater to Western taste. Food court is where they have them at Tokyo Central, Mitsuwa, Osaka and Takahashi Market those would by my top choices. I usually go for for inari a sushi rice stuffed in a deep fried tofu pouches along with crispy fried potato croquettes. Everything is imported from Japan beers, sake, certain merchandise (kitchware). Best to come by a weekday less shoppers ample parking.

First time (in awhile) visiting this location and a great stop after a wonderful lunch nearby. Longtime fan of Nijiya Markets (smaller like a convenience store) and frequent the San Mateo and Mountain View locations. Similar offerings but some items not found at the San Mateo location which made me happy! My frequent purchases: Japanese products, thinly sliced meats Grab-and-go items of: :: Sashimi and poke :: Sushi grade fish to make a dish at home :: Bentos - protein with rice :: Chicken Yakitori :: Nishime (simmered spring vegetables) - Bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, yam cake, burdock, lotus roots, butterbur simmered in dashi and other ingredients giving that slightly sweet umami :: Tonkotsu Ramen - I love how simple and "ready to eat in 3 mins" this item is. Delicious comfort food without going to a restaurant. :: Kinjyo Mixed Fruit Jelly Candy - I grew up on these candies. Fave is the pineapple and orange (San Mateo location doesn't have them) I skip the ready-made sushi as I'm not a fan of pre-made, refrigerated sushi as the rice loses its texture. Just a preference. San Jose location doesn't have a hot food area like Mountain View but a great place for a casual, light meal or items to make at home.
Another successful visit to Nijiya for some Grab n' Go food. Got some Kaki Fry; Salmon Nigiri with California Rolls; Vegetable Croquet and a Shrimp Patty Sandwich. All were pretty decent. We were happy to see that they've managed to maintain their food quality and at reasonable prices too! The cashier was very friendly and efficient. Remember to grab your chopsticks, soy sauce, wasabi and tonkatsu sauce. They're sitting in a box at the end of the register counter.
Spent about $26.4 on 3 sushi's, chopsticks and soy sauce are self service at the cashier. The onigiri was hit and miss. Seaweed ones gave a lot, the mentaiko was very sparse and the rice was mushy. The tuna was horrible, tasted like chicken of the sea -- no mayo. The best was the Negihama, the wasabi was okay too. The cucumbers tasted like hand, salmon was good, tuna didn't have much taste. Would be back if desperate for sushi and in the area. Good selection otherwise albeit a bit overpriced. read more

Another successful visit to Nijiya for some Grab n' Go food. Got some Kaki Fry; Salmon Nigiri with California Rolls; Vegetable Croquet and a Shrimp Patty Sandwich. All were pretty decent. Nijiya is a cool little market right on Jackson. They've pretty much got everything you'd need for some Japanese home cooking. Their prepared foods are tasty and convenient. Picked up an hojicha jelly cup and a strawberry fruit sando after lunch at Kumako- oishii desu! read more

Located in the heart of Japantown, San Jose. This location has a great selection of produce, fresh Japanese meats (for Yakinuku or shabu shabu). Thin sliced, high quality beef, chicken and pork. Small, but impressive selection of fresh seafood. Their grocery shelves are filled with everything you need (soy sauce, tsukudani, nori for sushi, rice, snacks, and ramen noodles. My favorite area is their ready to eat bentos! I highly recommend their crab, uni, and ikura bento! read more
We were trekking around J-Town on a Sunday where most places were closed. Nijiya Market we were familiar with so we went in to look. The chain was started by a Japanese immigrant with headquarters in Torrance, CA and 12 locations in CA and Hi (Ala Moana Center) and the largest store in San Francisco with 2 floors. The corporation owns a 100 acre organic vegt farm in Rainbow, CA. This store is smaller than in SF. There are lots of good items and we decided to get dinner here and bought a donburi bowl, eel dragon roll (it was delicious) and a bonito onigri. I also found the tempura seaweed chips imported from Japan that I like. read more
Super excited to pick up a Hawaiian breakfast. They have instant packets of tropical pancake mixes, tropical syrups and jams, and haupia mixes to recreate your vacation breakfast in addition to loads of Japanese products. I picked up a new to me curry packet, rice seasoning and salad dressing. Best find? Onigiri for less than I can find in San Francisco. read more

Love this market! Will definitely be going here quite often. They have a great selections of sweets and snacks that take me back to traveling. You can surely find your favorite Japanese desserts and sweet treats here. I've been wanting to try the viral strawberry and cream sandwich, which was alright. I liked the flavors but the texture of the bread was more "American" than the typical soft sweet bread found in Asian pastries, if that makes sense. read more
As a Nijiya Market regular, I love coming here to grab lunch. The store is pretty compact, but well stocked and well organized. Street parking is limited (and not free), so it's sometimes easier to park a few blocks away, or just walk over. I usually go right to the prepared foods section in the back. Their selection is a little different every day and also sells out quickly, so it's best to visit earlier in the day. The Nigiri is tasty, but they don't always have it, so I often go for the Chirashi, Sushi Rolls, or Sashimi. The staff members are friendly, pricing is reasonable, and they have a few picnic tables out front, in case you want to eat right away. Overall, Nijiya Market is a Japantown staple - will return! read more

Worse than SF nijiya market Bought their nigiri set and had a stomachache for most of the day. Nothing came out or got painful. But it was definitely the nigiri On top of that, the nigiri was middddddddd with a capital D Bad nigiri, but nice area to sit and eat after nijiya market Anyways, cant bash on it since I like japan and I like supermarkets and this is like the only one in SJ japantown 3/5 read more

I purchased 2 tuna sashimi packages on Feb 13, 2025. One package smelled rotten and I could not use it. The coloration was different but I assumed they were different parts of the fish. Edit: I got my refund the next day. Still a major inconvenience as I don't live nearby. I don't feel comfortable buying again as the fish was not fresh. read more
This is a nice little Japanese market in the heart of Japantown. It has a great variety of Japanese food, fresh and processed. They have wonderful Japanese cookies and candies and I love coming here to pick up gifts. Staff is always helpful They also have prepared boxes of food, which are great for lunch or saving time when making dinner. read more
IMHO I always love dropping into this cute little market whenever I'm in Japantown. I don't always have something in mind to purchase but I love cruising the aisles searching for anything that catches my eye. A few days ago, I found my favorite sake jelly shot canned drink. They were on sale! I bought four. They also have a display of Kelly's Kookies at the front door. I love shortbread cookies, and these are excellent. However, they are expensive, so I passed this time. The produce always looks neat, clean and fresh. Love looking through the frozen section for unique desserts. Tons of other food options, snacks, etc. read more

Such a small loaded Japanese grocery store. They have fresh veggies, snacks, drinks (alcohol & non alcohol). They also have prepackaged meals like pork cutlets and rice, sashimi, sando. It was a quick walk around. I had my kids with me and one had to really go to the bathroom. I ended up getting soba noodle sauce, Japanese popsicle and hi-chew. If we are in the neighborhood again I would stop by and try one of their hot meals or get some sashimi. I wish I was able to walk around the whole grocery store but couldn't. The guy at the check out was nice and polite, so thanks for the great service. read more

Small Japanese market in the Japantown area of San Jose, used to stop by often when we lived in the area since parking is very easy on weekdays and its compact + convenient size reminds me of the supermarkets in Japan. They carry enough protein and vegetables to make a meal while not being so large you'll spend too much time browsing around or trying to find stuff. They occasionally have real wasabi root if you want to treat yourself. 100% of the time I come I'll pick up some sashimi which is always good. The small hot food section also has katsu is nicely made and survived a 20 minute drive home while staying crispy. Since we've moved the only time we come is when there are festivals and events in japantown.
