Aside from SJ Japantown there are so few Japanese supermarket in the South Bay. Japanese restaurants are getting more pricier and cater to Western taste quality is not up to par usually managed or owned by non-Japanese and quite often not so authentic. Mitsuwa has been around since 1998 serving authentic Japanese meals and they put an array of ready to go bento, sashimi, poke, sushi and much more cheaper than dining out at a Japanese restaurants. Employees are very attentive kind and helpful. All the products are shipped from Japan and they have fresh produce, meat, fish and fruits. Been coming out here for over 10 years only wished there were more Japanese supermarket. Best time to come by on a weekday rather on a wekend less traffic less shoppers can' beat that!

Mitsuwa was super busy at 4pm on a Saturday. I wanted to check out the Bandai store inside the supermarket. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It seems like the supermarket has ran out of room. There's all these boxes of energy drinks blocking the entrance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's a new warm foods section by the refrigerated foods section. Good selection of everything. This is stable of the neighborhood and have been her for the longest time.

Brings family together. They used to have product called Cororido?

All time childhood favorite place. Knowing the people who work there for decades. New products and improvements of service through out the years. They have more cosmetics and food court to lounge and grub. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Reminds you of partial Japan.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Amazing ambience.!Family, couples for explorers, date spot for sure since many things around the spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Found my favorite Lychee drink from Japan! I first saw these in Japan at Disney Sea and at the Tokyo Station in a vending machine!! So glad they have these! They're refreshing and delicious! Super cheap too! Only like $2.50 a bottle. It's like pocari sweat but lychee flavored. Highly recommended!

This 10-piece sushi platter was only $20! and it also has TORO so i'd say it's a pretty good deal! It was overall good, but it definitely is just a sushi platter from a market rather than a restaurant. It's kept in the fridge, and not freshly made right as you order, so the rice is cold. But it wasn't bad. For the price point, i think it's great! Although, i didn't realize that the cuts of the fish were pretty thin until i started eating them. But you get what you pay for. They give you a lot of rice though!

Quality/Quantity - Still our favorite Japanese supermarket in the SJ area. Might be biased as we have had so many good memories here over the decades. Love the pop-ups, this is where we discovered MoDo Donuts. See Mitsuwa HI review. But no pop up today?!?! Even on a Saturday? Anyway, today we got lunch/brunch as we wanted to make sure we had food in our system before meeting our friends to visit their wineries. I got my usual sushi and an onigiri for extra measure. The sushi was good, but the onigiri was not as much. My wife got her bowl, see pictures. Atmosphere - Santouka Ramen - My wife usually gets ramen, but we got here too early and they do not open until 11am. Matcha & Mochi - Got my usual dessert, but not today as I did not want the matcha to affect my wine tasting later. Yama Chan Deli - Serves takoyaki. Decent size parking lot, but really not enough spaces for all the businesses in this mall. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm. Service - Good. They also have self-service registers. Strict return policy; see picture. Price - Slightly above average, but worth it. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1998 and with your 13+ locations. We are loyal customers at this San Jose, CA location.

What a fabulous store!! Went here today to buy some rice crackers and candies. Was only gonna send a few dollars....... $300.00 dollars and 45 minutes later after arriving, I realized I had fallen in love with a grocery store! This place is wonderful! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The aisles are super clean and spacious![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The vegetables are perfectly arranged. The fresh mochi area up front is to die for! The people working here are super friendly and more than willing to help. I love this place and will be back soon! Gotta get more fresh mochi!

The final bastion before Fanime or the stop to refuel afterwards. It's always so fun to see people with their badges here or in cosplay which makes it doubly hilarious since you're nowhere close to the actual even either. But I digress. I'm spoiled by the multiple and massive Mitsuwas in SoCal, especially those with more specialty shops and bigger food courts, but this location fills the niche that it has in NorCal. Visited during one of their "festival" events where they imported in karaage, had a make up sale, and also had some samples, which is neat. There's discount on bento, deli, and sushi later on in the day. Selection is normal and service is as friendly and polite as other places. Decent Japanese market.

Love everything there is about this market. Been coming here for nearly 15 yrs now... maybe more and I'm still pretty amazed by it. Food here, inside and outside has everything that hits home... Feel like Japan. Even appreciate more now when i came back visiting Japan back in 2018-19. Service also feels like back in Japan. Always nice and kind people. It just has it all... Sorta only wish it was closer to me

Make no mistake we love these kind of grocery stores. Be it Mexican, Persian, Indian, Cambodian, and now Japanese, they are always an adventure. I had briefly been in years back as they are one of the few places outside of NYC you can buy Royce Chocolates in person. This time we took a deeper dive. Obviously this one was all about japan. Lots of everyday and specialty items and they even have a small food court. There is a separate area that has too many premium chocolate (like Royce) to mention them all. Its a medium sized store with a good selection. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Its spotless inside and the staff was friendly[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is a a lot of parking spots but its always pretty crowded.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Everything is similar to Osaka Marketplace, except that this location features a food court, a chocolate shop, cosmetic shops, a gachapon arcade, and a Kikonikuya Bookstore. More hot deli options from different Japanese prefectures are worth trying. The ramen shop here is so popular that there's always a long line during lunch, especially on weekends. It's been that way for over a decade, since I was a college student. They even have Mochill Donut if you have a sweet tooth for coated mochi donuts. If not, there's Mochi-ya Ren, known for its only Matcha Mont Blanc soft serves you can find in the Bay Area. The associate was friendly when I asked to look for a specific item. The market looks big on the outside, but not many grocery items in stock. Parking is busy every weekend, unless you arrive early morning or late afternoon.

I normally get the Philly roll here, I was a little disappointed today because the rice quality was a bit mushier than normal. Nonetheless I will still grab one if I'm there. The sashimi is good, as well as their black sesame ice cream in the little food court area! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Parking lot gets super packed on the weekends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Last time I went they were offering free samples of an oyster broth. Workers are friendly.

    Olivia H.

I love this store! We used to come here a lot although we live about 2 hours away. We like santouka ramen and their test kitchen during the weekend, they have fresh yaki imo and roasted Chestnut. They have nice selection of pickles and also in general japanese grocery items. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is busy especially during the weekend.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was ok nothing special. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is normal as well nothing especially noted.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We come here offen and will continue to come back!

Ask the Community - Mitsuwa Marketplace

Do they sell (Hawaiian) Maui sweet onions either in store or by special orders?

What time does the mochi donut place open in the morning?

Mochill opens at 11am. Hope this helps.

Are dogs allowed in the market?

Pets are not allowed in store, service animals are welcome.

What time is the sushi stocked in the morning?

Are the donuts made to order?

No, they are not served hot. They are pre-made. We order the taro flavor, it tasted like it sat around. Order the more popular flavor and you should be fine.

Michi donuts available all the times?

Nope, we just came looking for them and they were not available.

Yelp says Mitsuwa has curbside pickup. Has anyone tried it? I can't figure out how to order online.

I havent seen any option of curb side pickup. I guess it might be limited to the ramen place in there but that too seems like a very thin probability that they might be doing so. Usually I see queues outside Mitsuwa in evening, if there was an…

Do they still have fresh sashimi and seafood at evening?

It's often fairly picked over by the evening. I'd recommend shopping earlier, if you can. You can also purchase sashimi and sushi cut pieces of fish, to make your own.

Does anybody know if they sell imagawayaki or wheel cakes here?

I believe they have something similar in vegetables/ refrigerated prepared lunchboxes area. If not, they could be located in the snack section. I hope this helps because I…

Anyone know if the ramen shop is open?

It is when we visited Wednesday afternoon, there's also a section on the right of the market that sells premade noodles

When does the sushi fish get restocked? Is it most fresh to get fish in the morning? Or do they restock at a different time?

Your answer is just a phone call away! 🏃🏻

Do they still sell Hawaiian sun drinks in a can?

    Yes.

Do they sell fresh sheets of rice noodles to make pad se eu?

    yes they do

Do they sell sushi grade fish?

Yes they do. I eat them right there in the parking lot sometimes because I can't wait. 😅

Hi, does anybody know if they sell fresh mochi here or just frozen? Thanks...

Hi, they have fresh and frozen. There is a Japanese snack counter. Their mochis are very tasty.

Do they sell fresh wasabi root?

    Yes

How does this Mitsuwa compare to the one in Edgewater, New Jersey? So many places to see and things to do, so trying to figure out if this should be on the list of stops.

It's a bit smaller. If you are looking for a strip-mall with a large Kinokuniya Bookstore, the Japanese bric-brac store, matcha-Love and all that, it's not it. It does have a Santoka ramen stand though.

Do they sell fresh ramen noodles without the sauces?if so, about how much for price and size?

They do. They're past the produce section, along the wall. They have an assortment of fresh noodles with different packets of spices/sauce that you can just throw away if you don't want to use them. They're only a couple bucks each. They're much…
