I was in the neighborhood and decided to pop in to Lunardi's to get some fruit. Lunardi's is well known for their fresh produce and didn't disappoint. I picked up naval oranges, Fuji apples, and apricots. All of it was delicious, but the naval oranges stood out as especially sweet and good. I wish I would have bought more. The worker in the produce department was helpful in pointing me to the pet section for live wheat grass for my kitty. The store was not too busy for a Friday afternoon and there was no wait to check out. I need to shop there more often. read more

I needed to get a couple of things for our Thanksgiving dinner. I stopped by Lunardi's because I think they have the best produce. I needed celery for my stuffing recipe and yams for my candied yam recipe. Every fall they get the "Diane Yams", which are the best. They are a dark reddish brown on the outside and dark orange in the middle. They are sweet and delicious. I have never found these yams anywhere else. I buy them from Lunardi's every year. I got the items I needed and headed to the checkout. The line moved fast. The young man helping me was very nice. I went home and briefly looked at my receipt and noticed I was over charged for the celery and the yams. I was actually charged for sweet potatoes which are a pale orange color and they were $1.00 more a pound than the Diane Yams. I called the store and explained the situation. I had to return to the store and get back in line to get refunded. Abby, who helped me with my refund apologized and said the guy helping me usually works the late shift. They should do a little training on the differences between the yams, sweet potatoes and regular potatoes. A $1.00 more a pound is a lot especially when you have bought a large quantity. Now for the celery, I got charged for the blue tagged celery when my celery was clearly a red tag, which was on special. Not even sure how you get those colors confused. We loved Lunardi's from the moment we arrived in the Bay Area and shoppers since 2007. Back in 2016 a full usda prime brisket was about $72 with tax. It kept creeping up. But, I was floored when I was told a usda choice packer brisket was $330 two years ago. I immediately wondered if they had artificially increased the prices like that on fish (of which I know little about market rates). Spoke to the manager and they confirmed that was the price, but it was so off. Went to Costco and bought a USDA prime brisket for $89 and stopped to show the manager on the way home as my blood was boiling. Look, I love supporting ma and pa businesses in our community - but this is not support! You really need to be careful at the meat department. It breaks our heart, but we haven't shopped here since that moment. We gave the management team every chance to re-confirm and double check, but they stood by the outrageous pricing. If it was just $50 too much, I probably would have grumbled and bought it. There are still plenty of local shopping marts around, no need to do everything at a big box store, but we do have to be a bit wise with our purchases too. read more

Lunardi's provides a consistently wonderful shopping experience. Produce section always looks nice and items are fresh. I've never seen anything old or as though it needs to be pulled. They do a good job of keeping the section tidy. Meat department has top quality meats and service is excellent. Love their applewood smoked bacon! Bakery offers delicious cakes, cookies, and pastries. They can even write messages on most cakes at time of purchase. The bakery here has always had excellent desserts. If you need something last minute you can't go wrong with a cake or assortment of treats from Lunardi's. They have a great cheese section with a diverse selection for your charcuterie needs. The wine and spirits section has enough to satisfy any palate. I'm able to find things from buzzy local vendors like Boichik Bagels, Marianne's Ice Cream, and Pizza Antica pizzas. Wander through the store and you'll discover lots of other unique and uncommon goodies as you wander the aisles. Customer service has always been excellent. The folks working here remember their long-time customers and are welcoming to those who only pop in on occasion. It's a level of service that is basically nonexistent everywhere else. Yes, the price points are a little higher on some items but it's worth it to be treated as though you are valued. Parking is abundant and you'll find a spot even on the busiest of days. read more

My wife and I went to this store to get lamb ribs and organic whole chicken. Pre-cooking when we were cutting the ribs they were extremely stiff and hard, making it difficult to cook. I'm not sure what kind of meat it was because even after cooking it, we couldn't bite the meat off with our teeth. The chicken was labeled as "organic", but when we opened the wrap, we noticed how it was over-glazed with oil, and the meat was extremely thick and unusual. I cooked it on the stove for one hour, and then air fried it for 25 mins at 420 degrees. We cut open the chicken, but there was blood everywhere and it was still uncooked and raw. This is extremely uncommon and nasty, labeled "organic" meat that we were ripped off for, and ultimately left our daughter feeling nauseous because of how bad this meat was. Normally, after 45 mins of cooking, chicken would be safe to eat. But this took us an hour and a half and it was still horrid. read more

Lunardi's isn't a cheap grocery store, and in reality, you are paying for quality. Their meat market reminds me of the days of yore when you would go with your parents, and there are so many different options. Lunardi's is like old-school grocery shopping heaven. Meat has questionable quality given all the "good things" i hear from friends who shop here. I was expecting very good quality meat, however, the chicken has very thick meat, thinner than normal skin, and the butcher left the chicken's heart and liver in a plastic bag inside the chicken without mentioning it, nor did i request it. The rest of the stuff I bought. The drummettes do not come marinated. But if you ask the butcher can you please throw some cajun sauce in my wings. They will provide that excellent service and will turn those plain chicken wings into a serious mission. I cooked them on the grill for 40 minutes on low and hot dogs about 20 minutes and Sausage cause it's pork around 50 minutes on low heat on the Razor propane flat grill I got for xmas last year. Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2019 Came here today to shop and I'm happy to report since my last review seven months ago that customer service has greatly improved. No longer do we see the very unprofessional checker and her equally unprofessional bagger counterpart. They are putting people at the check stands and bagging area that are welcoming and friendly. I'm glad things have changed for the better. I was able to do my shopping this morning with ease. The checker today was Sean and the bagger person was Robert- I've seen these two multiple times that I've shopped here in the morning and they are really nice people. I hate shopping unless it's Grocery Shopping and I love the selection of food at Lunardi's. We mostly come for the Deli, which is more than just cold cuts, salads and such - they have weekly specials on hot meals. While I usually get a turkey sandwich, I've had the brisket dinner plate and chicken dinner plate. Those dinner plates are so big, they could serve 2. They have a really nice bakery and make beautiful cakes and pastries. We have celebrated a few birthdays with a nice cake from Lunardi's. I have also purchased meat from Lunardi's as I will always tend to want to pick out my own cuts. I purchased a huge tri-tip, which they offer regular and also pre-marinated. The roommate's family had a Mother's Day party at their house. It was a potluck of sorts, so someone brought cakes from Lunardi's Markets. They arrived on Sunday, May 13th around 2:30pm. There were two cakes. I believe one was a cheesecake with fruit and the other was a chocolate cake. The cheesecake one was pretty good. I liked all the fresh berries on top. I did find the cake a little too sweet for my tastes, but it wasn't super thick which I appreciated. (I'm into lighter cheesecakes.) I didn't try the chocolate cake as I'm not a huge chocolate fan, but the people who had it seemed to enjoy it. I think both cakes were 8" rounds and very simple in presentation. I'm more of a whipped cream cake kind of girl, so based on the two we had, I'd say their bakery offerings were A-OK. read more

I don't often go here but the other day I was craving lemon meringue pie. Whole Foods had a line 40 people long. So I decided to go into LUNARDi's to see what they had. I hadn't been there in over two years. The store was clean and well stocked. The bakery and deli section was very nice. I looked for some hard to find items to see what they carried and they did indeed have things that I couldn't find at other stores. We don't eat meat but their meat section was vast. I have to comment on the cake I ordered at the Meridian Ave. store on 6/10/22 It was a mess. Two layer, white cake, strawberry jam filling. Well I think it was the strawberry jam filling that made the cake fall apart. As I was cutting the cake into slices, I had to keep putting the layers back together. The box the cake came in didn't have a proper fitting top, so two bottoms were taped together....it couldn't fit in my fridge. Never again. read more
