We have been going to this Safeway for close to 20 years now. They always have items in stock at reasonable prices. The service is acceptable. The cleanliness in store is reasonable, considering the amount of shoppers there constantly are. Check out lines are usually long and there isn't always enough baggers to help out. Perhaps the biggest gripe are the restrooms. They're ALWAYS dirty and nasty (again, close to 20 years shopping) and they don't seem to be a priority. This store has been going down hill for years, but it's horrible now. Went there at 7:35 pm on a Thursday. Got the items I needed and went to check out. Self service portal was completely closed. They're were 20-30 people in line for 3 open registers. Many with small orders like myself, and not one of the 15 items or less registers were open. This IS NOT an isolated incident. It happens constantly. I left went to Lucky's market. Was in and out of the store in 15 minutes. 4 registers open as well as the self service portal. I've lived in Rincon Valley 25+ years. The night crew here is really rude, they are very open about being overworked and under paid. In fact they will avoid you when you ask for help and continue to walk away. I have shopped at this Safeway for most of my life. The lines here can be pretty horrific at peak times of day and some off-times when they don't have many checkout lines open. The self-checkout is usually quicker, but there ALWAYS seems to be a problem that the employee has to clear so you wind up having to wait way longer than you should have to. It's a standard grocery store with a very nice bakery. Sale prices are nice, but regular prices are pretty high. read more

I go to this Safeway regularly. Its usually between this one and the one off Farmers. It's not usually so bad, but today sucked. Literally every employee I interacted with (4) were in crappy moods or something. They were all slow. Borderline rude. Seemed like they were annoyed with every customer. I also got charge an extra $2 since the cashier didn't bundle my sandwich combo and I didn't notice until I got home since I bought a week's worth of groceries. He also almost didn't give me my monopoly tickets and when I asked for them he didn't even give me all of them and again, I didn't notice until I got home since there were so many. read more

I am finished with this Safeway and will go to Oliver's from now on. I don't care. I'll pay a little extra not to be the 12th person in line as my ice cream melts. Safeway has also stopped sanitizing carts. If they quit sanitizing carts, then you know that they aren't sanitizing anything else. How many times have I been to this location and there is literally one cashier and self checkout. Safeway is never great, but this location is terrible. This is a great store for general groceries. I dig this Safeway because it's so old school. That being said, it's still a clean store. Good solid choices of staple items (Great choice of canned tomatoes!) also good selection of bread. As one of two supermarkets in the Rincon Valley community, this Safeway location has been my go-to market for the longest time. They are open 24/7, aside from major holidays. It's clean here most of the time and courtesy clerks are friendly too. Their seafood department is lacking and the hot deli sucks. Otherwise, I have no qualms with this Safeway and will continue to come here for my grocery needs. read more

I want to make this clear. I have no complaints with this store my complaint is with safeway corporation and there rewards program. I spend allot of money at safeway, I'm a care giver and must buy food and cook for some elderly folks. For the past 6 months i get rewards on grocerys but not on fuel. It always says rewards not available. Store level can not tell me why. They say must contact head office. So far i have sent 27 emails to safeway and still not fixed. At least 15 different customer service people have responded but that is as far as they go .They ask me for the same information each time i give it and nothing happens. With the price of fuel these days it would really help with the cost of driving. There customer service is all computer generated they always respond very nice very polite, but do nothing to resolve the problem.also they have nobody in the field checking on the stations that represent safeway to insurers there customers are getting the 20 cents off per gallon. Using my friends rewards because his allowed him to check to see if he had fuel reward available and he did. We checked 3 stations. I stopped the pump at 1 gallon. The price was full price at all 3 station. Ive asked why this is , at station, local store, and safeway corp. For months now ive been asking WHY is this happening. Curbside pickup service is horrible! It's close to me so I keep trying with little success. Too many items missing from order, charges for things I didn't receive and careless selection of produce that doesn't appear fresh. I have turned to Raley's. This is my favorite Safeway in Santa Rosa. Great Produce department, A lot o of organic choices! :-D Good Wine selection! Great Natural selection too here - the 'health foodie' if you will stuff is all grouped. Awesome Floral counter - with very helpful staff. Awesome staff in this location. I love coming here in the Monday morning on my way to work. I pick up everything I need for the week while at work. Also the managers really regulate the long lines at this location. They're always up front helping out the customers when it gets busy in the afternoons. read more

5 Stars all the way for this market. Next to Oliver's, TJ's on Santa Rosa Ave this is my go to place when I want to stock up on sundry items. Well laid out and helpful Staff make it easy to shop. For some strange reason this Safeway seems to have more of everything. Lots of specials on the Safeway Club Card make it plus. Also how can you not love the self check out service they offer? I did have one fellow patron snark at me when she thought I was cutting in line - but that's no fault of the store. The only drawback if any is that they get a lot of Oldsters here from Oakmont - so a little patience and caution in the parking lot is required. All in all one of my favorite places to shop. This store is really going down hill. There are just no employees left.the lines get longer. No one to bag anymore. The worst are Lisa and Regina.both are more into talking and showing pictures then move the line along. This week alone I left twice. I must admit I go here more often than any other grocery store because it is closest, more economical and gives points to save on gas costs but I kinda hate it everytime I go. Most frustrating is more often than not, the shelves are empty for sale items. Fresh fruit and vegies are ok but nothing special. Fresh fish section is minimal. Their deli is quite pathetic - they cut the meats in the morning so you are getting deli meats kinda dried up. I ask to have them cut off the main piece - they do it but don't seem to happy about it. It's a very basic place - needs help. also the design of the store is poor - if there are any people in line for check out - they block the main aisle in the front of the store for shoppers to get by. I have been shopping at this store for 6 years and have never had a great experience. The aisles are narrow and it just has an overall dingy feel. Although some of the clerks are helpful, most are slow and incompetent. I've never seen such slow check-out clerks. So I reserve my Safeway shopping for once a month supplies like paper towels, etc. But I had such a bad experience this morning, it's likely I'll never return. I was there at 7:00 a.m. and one of the only shoppers in the store. When I went to check out, the only register open said "12 items or less." I had more than this, so I asked the check-out clerk, who was just idly chatting with a customer, if I needed to find a different register. She yelled at me "Be patient! I'll be with you in a moment!" I tried to explain I was only asking if I was in the right line, and she just continued to yell. "Look at the light -- it's on -- it means I'm open!" Nothing I could say could get her to calm down and be polite. I look at many other reviews here about grumpy and inadequate employees -- month after month, year after year. Doesn't Safeway management care? People at Olivers and TJ's and Whole Foods and Raleys are so nice. It just takes a little training. What's wrong with you Safeway?!! read more

Used to like this Safeway, a lot. Now, most of the checkers and their supervisors have surly, unfriendly attitudes, like they don't really care if you're their customer or not (at least the evening crew seems that way)! I don't know why because there are plenty of other shopping options out there, some even closer to home. Tonight I went there just to pick up a few things, I'm forgiving, and jumped in the 15 items or less line. The cashier was checking out someone with a full basket, at least 50 items. I thought the older gentleman behind me was going to blow a fuse, he mentioned the 50 item or less lady and I just shrugged my shoulders and suggested he go ahead of me. When I got to the checker I mentioned the 15 item or less sign and she totally copped a bad attitude and was rude, I felt. I just asked for future reference because there are times when I'll have 17 items and pick a different line but if they don't really enforce it then the sky's the limit! The checker didn't apologize for the weight or inconvenience, just passed off the blame. VERY POOR customer service! The best Safeway in town, IMHO, is the old G&G on West College, always well-stocked, clean and organized and friendly staff who don't make you feel like you're bothering them! read more

I normally go to the Safeway on 4th but went in Calistoga yesterday to get only plums and all the lines open were very long. Express line had only one guy shopping / score! Omg, the checker named Roberta talked at least 4 minutes about baseball to the guy ahead of me, never looking my direction. I was so frustrated that when he left and the chain was behind me I told her she can't have long personal conversations with customers and especially in an express line! She answered that she is a Libra and was I? Told her that's not the point and she said "he's a cancer survivor ", again not the point. She brought up the libra thing again and then told me I needed to be compassionate ! WTH? She then said she could have closed the line before I got in. I don't see this at any other store and I find it distasteful to pass by the employees who are handling the food sitting on the ground smoking cigarettes; not to mention the obnoxious smell. I have been a loyal Safeway shopper for 25 years as was my mother before me. I have shopped at this particular one (Calistoga Rd) for the past 16 years. While the produce wasn't always the freshest it was decent and the friendly, professional staff more than made up for the occasional discrepancies in quality. Unfortunately, ever since Albertson's bought Safeway everything has gone downhill, particularly the staff. But before I go into what is wrong let me just point out what is working in my opinion: The bakery is this store's only saving grace because they kept the sweet ladies who have been there for years. I just love their smiling faces...makes my kid's and my day! Now for the ugly: The deli folks are the worst! They act like they are doing you a huge favor to assist you. A checker informed me one night, when I commented the deli closed so early, that they were "restructuring" that department because it was sub-par but today I discovered they simply made the cases a little bit shinier and changed up the food a bit..the latter probably a good call as that hardened, cracked egg salad was pretty repulsive looking. Still, they didn't fix what was ultimately wrong with that department: the rude, lazy staff!! I have to audibly laugh when there isn't enough already sliced of whatever the lunch meat of the week is in my house and they ask if I really want it because then they'd have to cut more!!! Wait, isn't that their JOB?!? The produce department has some young new guy that rolls his eyes at you if you're in his way and mumbles under his breath goodness knows what. Working is really not his thing as my kids even commented they saw him tossing an orange 10 feet high up in the air (note: 12 year old's observation so probably more like 6 feet) while standing around talking to another employee, who was working. He must be very popular with him. And let's talk about that "Three's A Crowd" mumbo jumbo. I have never seen them open up another register because of crowding over the last month. They call for it but no one appears. Maybe the checker left early for a job interview at another chain or it's a completely fictitious person or maybe I'm just pretty darn unlucky!! Whatever the reason, I am so done with this store. Tonight it took me 25 minutes just to check out! Thank goodness I didn't have ice cream. They kept calling for Three's A Crowd, the 3 (three!!) regular lines filled with audibly grumpy people (during peak hours!) went down the aisles and my starving kids had to wait even longer for their now really late dinner. If this were an isolated incident I could chalk it up to just a bad night but for the past month with 4-5 visits/week this has been my experience as well as my husband's. Customer service is at an all time low. Over the past 4 years of living in Rincon Valley I have spent thousands of dollars of my hard earned money at this store. After purchasing the wrong gift card I was denied the ability to get a refund or exchange it for something that I could use. The manager chose to lose a good customer over $50. I had the receipt, the card that I used to purchase it with and the access code receipt. This was not a case of fraud but more a major chain of grocery stores crossing their arms and saying tough s#2t! I was even willing to take a card that I actually could use just so this single dad wasn't out $50. I will choose to spend my money elsewhere....such as Oliver's which is right down the road! I just want to say that I love Safeway except for this location. This location isn't customer service friendly and to me as a shopper & female, this is very important to me. And, it's not an option for me because I believe that my buying dollars absolutely "DO MATTER". And, this is the second and last time for me to this location. The first time, I went just to pick up a few items since I was in that location. The Manager on duty "manning" the self-checks was unfriendly and didn't "Thank" me for shopping even though I was right there in front of his face while I was exiting. I said "Thank you" and he looked me up and down and said nothing. Not a good deal. I called the Store's Corporate Office and I reported him and that location. And, again, just now, many months later, I decided against my better judgement to go because I needed some items because I was right there in the area. A very big mistake...my cashier, whom I believe with certainty, was a Manager. She had no name badge...was beyond unprofessional. She wouldn't even "crack open" her darn mouth to reply a "hello" to me when I first spoke to her while placing my items on the belt, she seemed "pissy" when I wanted to place a small bag of organic brownie bites as a last purchase(they were right in side counter...I only had to move 3 steps to grab them), and she didn't "Thank" me for my $5.00 donation to help feed the children. And, I would definitely go on the record to say that "Shelby" is a member of Management because she seemed to have this "uptight air" about her that she was just too "good" to be on a register. Another Manager walked by her while she was ringing me up and in excitement he said "Shelby the lines are going down! Yeah"! You know, she didn't even have a smile or reply to him. I feel that you are there to do a job and provide a service. And, it's called "Retail". Which means, when the lines are long, it's all "hands on deck"!!! Put a dang smile on face & serve the customers!!! ***Safeway...ALL customers are your "bread and butter" at ALL your locations. You cannot keep getting away with NOT have excellent customer service at ALL your locations!!! You cannot keep taking it for granted that you'll always have customers. And, I will add that Customer Service Training is NEEDED at this location or you WILL continue to lose good customers like myself over & over at this Store #713 here in Santa Rosa, California. read more

The store is always out of items, the staff isn't welcoming or make you feel like its your home store to shop. Not very clean in/out. I love Starbucks and this location I use to look forward to going to and getting fast and great service, now its very slow and staff doesn't acknowledge the customers the way they used to. Tried to buy a case of vodka and the cashier Amer wouldn't accept my driver's license as valid I.D. I just got married and haven't received a new license from the DMV yet. Ridiculous. My license isn't even expired, it just has a hole punched in it. I'm fairly certain my birthday & age do not change anyway. I had to go out to my car and get my marriage license and temporary paper I.D. from the DMV. He wouldn't even suspend my transaction so when I came back there was a line of angry people staring daggers at me. Oh and before I went to retrieve my documents I was moving my cart out of the way and he scolded me, outraged that I was trying to take the groceries with me. I explained to him that I was moving my cart out of the way so he could help other people in line (not that he helped anyone else anyway). I don't understand why he was so rude. I should have just left. Needless to say I will not be shopping at this location, less I have to present my birth certificate and social security card to buy milk. read more
