2.1.26: First time in at this location as I was in the area. I came in for some fresh broccoli but couldn't pass up the bakery lol. A lemon blueberry colossal cake slice caught my eye--I'm no stranger to Safeway's cake slices and my go-to is the confetti cake. However, I've never seen lemon blueberry before and wanted to try it. Of course I picked out the wonky slice that looked liked it had more frosting lol. I also got a maple donut, which I've probably had hundreds in my lifetime... they're consistent and everyone knows I like consistency. Anyways, back to my cake slice review. The lemon blueberry was more than enough for one person and could easily be shared between 2. It was very moist and didn't have that fake factory lemon or blueberry taste. It was more subtle like you would find in a lemon blueberry loaf. The cake itself wasn't overly sugary--that's the frosting's job lol. I will say I picked out the slice that had a more frosting but that the other slices were all uniform in size. Overall, it reminded me of lemon blueberry bread but with yummy frosting. The store was clean and all the produce looked nice and fresh. Each department I visited was organized and aisles were obstacle free. My cashier, Cindy, had a smile and was friendly. I enjoy shopping at Safeway stores some times. It's clean. There are digital deals that are great. It is pricier than shopping at Walmart. The plus is not as crowded as Walmart. At approximately 9:40, I was leaving Self Check, moving with my walker, and a short heavyset woman hurrying to assist at a Self Check station CUT ME OFF! I had to stop quick to avoid her, I fell forward, catching myself with my walker and I wrenched my already broken back. DO NOT cut off an elderly person using a walker!!! You don't know what their issue is! In this case, the woman cut off a man with two crushed vertebras! I had to deal with compression spasms as I walked back to my apartment! Visited your store this morning and unfortunately there weren't enough employees to check out customers. Was told that the one checker working was on a break and a few customers and myself standing in line would have to wait about 5 minutes until she came back on the floor to check out area. I found this extremely unacceptable and unprofessional and will NEVER shop in a Safeway again. If you are not staffed correctly then don't open your store. This is not anyway to run a business where customers are not your priority. read more

This used to be my go to store for a decade and I am sad to see the state it's in over the last few months. The service has always been iffy but I didn't care much, I don't need them to be nice. What I do need is reliable and consistent hours at the deli, now they close whenever they want to, 6 pm last time I went. When you ask for help they act like they are doing you a favor instead of their job. I don't know what happened to this place but I am done with Safeway, the food from the deli has gone downhill, their bread sucks, and most of all, their prices have gone through the roof compared to everyone else around Lincoln heights. If you decide to buy things that are on sale, I suggest you pay attention to the prices as they are rung up, 4 out of 5 times I have to call someone over to adjust the price because their system is broken and doesn't recognize sales. It's really pathetic, I don't blame the workers, I blame the lousy management and low moral on their corporate office. $5 for a pomegranate? Trader Joe's has them for $2. The ambiance is trashy mixed with bumy, from pimple faced teenagers to angry seniors, we can do better. read more

Picked Turkey dinner up Wednesday Nov,28 around 6pm! We did not eat it for Thanksgiving! Thought we would have it for Saturday dinner! Opened the Turkey, it was rotten! I went to this store on the 1st of the month, and it is usually busy on these days. Today I noticed several people who looked very "Safeway official" walking around. One person even asked if I was finding everything OK. If I had seen her at the checkout lines, I would have asked if she or the other people just walking around could jump in and help since there were easily 6 people waiting at each lane with only 2 lanes open. I even asked the gal helping with self check out if they could get another checker to open a line. She just said no. Second time I've been intimidated by the homeless hanging out at the benches outside of this Safeway on 29th- the last time a guy was shooting up with no concern as to who was watching. It seems management doesn't care. I spoke with them twice. This last time a manager couldn't be found, and the staff member said management doesn't care. I have empathy for the homeless, but I also don't want to feel intimidated when I'm going in to spend my hard earned money on groceries. I will be shopping elsewhere at this point. read more

I have been shopping at Safeway for 30 years. Most of the time it is a 5 star, but today it was only a two. We buy watermelon chunks and the packaging is not great. We ask if they will rubber band them so they don't open. Today they made a big deal out of how inconvenient it was for them. They even said they did not have any rubber bands at all in the whole store. So we asked if they would tape them closed. The casher Emillie totally ignored us then. This is the only store in Spokane I ever have an issue with. I am a senior with terminal cancer, therefore I use SNAP for food assistance. This is the only place where I am ever treated rudely because of it. Yes, I buy marked down meat and other items. Yes, I have coupons from SNAP. The two old rude checkers (why are they even there?) can never get this right. They act as if I'm a second-class citizen because they have to do a little extra work. This visit today, the checker actually KEPT MY SNAP COUPON as if I'm a thief or scammer. I will never step foot in this awful place again. The "club" confusion savings that never register- watch out. Next time you shop, add up the real price you think its supposed to be on your phone then check it with the actual charges- I get screwed almost every time I keep track- Makes me real pissed off at how much I must have been over paying before I kept track. This store had one person working all pickup orders at 5 pm on Monday. After 50 minutes of waiting for tampons and cat treats my wife called the store and was told "everyone else is on break". So my wife asked to be put through to corporate and got our money back. How long are breaks at Safeway? When i worked service industry i was lucky to get a 20 minute break, and definitely not during peak rush hours on a Monday. What a terrible excuse for poor service and making a single employee do all the pickups during possibly the busiest time of the week. Do better Safeway. I've been shopping here for years but will not use this store in the future. They have very disappointing CoVid prevention controls. Got a bag of tater tots here that turned out to be mashed beyond all recognition. I thought they were hashbrowns until I carefully read the package again. A fine grasp of the English language led me back to the same horrifying conclusion. Some warped individual paced around the store mashing a bag of tater tots only to put them back in the freezer case. Could this only happen at this crappy Safeway? Perhaps not. Does it make my least favorite grocery store my new most hated? Perhaps so. Rule: Never get between a fat man and his tots. I'm going to attempt a return without a receipt. I used to go to the Safeway in Cheney Washington. So when I moved to the south hill, I went to the Safeway on 29th Ave. This Safeway is one of the worst for customer service. Most of the checkers are rude. They do not greet you or give any assistance at the checkout stand. I have moved to Super1 on 29th Ave and they are wonderful. Any time that I have returned to Safeway on 29th to pick something up, I run into the same problem with poor customer service. I finally called the manager, John, and let him know. He listened which was nice and I got the impression that he probably wasn't going to do much. Will definitely not go back to this Safeway even to run in for a few items. read more

Morale seems to be REALLY low here. All of the deli food looks dried out and unappealing. The deli register was stuck on an order that needed to be voided by a manager, but no one was around to do it. The girl making the food took about 15 minutes to make a sandwich by referring to the guide constantly, and tried to under-the-table sell us "homemade" dried fruit bars that her mother made. There was a good 20 people crowding the three open registers and the cashiers just looked depressed overall. It makes me wonder what's happening with management or higher that everyone seems unhappy/deli food sits out for far too long. Update: Just took a bite of the sandwich I ordered. I thought the bread she used looked a little odd, but didn't question it. She put a turkey sandwich on cheesy garlic bread. This place is terrible. Who ever runs this store should be fired or given a more appropriate job such as collecting carts or picking up cigarette butts out in the parking lot. This store fails literally at almost everything. The store is always dirty. They are constantly out of carts on the eastside entrance. They have the highest prices by far, and I don't mean an extra nickel or two, I am mean 90 cents to two dollars more than at other stores. Even Rosauer's across the street has lower prices. Then you have the lack of cashiers. This is the biggest problem. I have never seen a store with less cashiers as this store. I have seen literally 8-10 people backed up in the check-out lines and no one came up to help. I saw people abandon their carts and just leave because of the long lines. Not to mention that the cashiers are constantly new because I assume the other cashiers wised up and quit this terribly managed store. The cashiers that remain aren't too bright nor are they fast. I'm giving two stars for the polite cashiers. However, the honesty and integrity of the store is questionable. We bought two avocados from an area in produce say $1 each. They both rang up at $2.49 each. I didn't notice until I was in the car. I then went into customer service and told them and got two others from another area saying $1 each. He said he'd just give me the originals for the sale price. Before I put the other two away, I noticed they had the exact scan number on them as the $2.49 each avocados. Apparently, they are all mixed and when I mentioned it was misleading, he I didn't say a word. read more

Overall the store is laid out well and things are easy to find. The staff seems to be nonexistent. Deli food is always old and dry. If you need help finding a product or getting a bottle of liquor you will have to search high and low for someone that works there. Don't push the assistance button at the liquor cabinet! I'm pretty sure this makes the staff all run and hide. Check out generally takes at least 10 minutes. There is never adequate staff at checkout. The two lines will stretch throughout the store and the checkers will plead for help over the intercom but no one will come until the lines have died down. Once the lines have died down to one or two people each, the manager runs out and takes the last person in line. I would not recommend this store to anyone. The pharmacy is pretty helpful though. read more

Pharmacy staff here is AWFUL!!! Been here 4 times over the last 8 months and every single time I stand at the counter for at least 5 minutes without even being acknowledged. Not even "we'll be with you shortly" not even a look or a hello... They don't process a prescription when it comes in but only when you get there to pick it up so today I got to stand around the store in excruciating pain because it took them 20 minutes to process the rx that been sent over an hour before hand. The layout of this Safeway is a bit different than others I've been to in Spokane. These days I go to Safeway to look at their "manager's special" for fresh fish, meat, and chicken. Given this was my first time I don't know if they ever have more than 30 % discounted food, but today that's all they had. I've found safe ways to have only 30% off in this aspect except the Safeway off Hamilton. Thy have 50% off sometimes which is an incredible deal. From my quick tips you know I am less than impressed with this location.....During my many visits I have been treated rudely (bakery), slowly( deli snooze) and generally with a lack of enthusiasm( produce). I have also purchased expired yogurts from here three times which makes me the fool! I like Safeway. The Northsides stores have always looked after me! The only person that has helped me is Jasmin! Thanks girl for being helpful and the first to take me to what I was looking for! The line extended so far they there were people literally waiting in the aisles to check out. Waited for 10 minutes and just gave up, put my items down and went across the street to Rosauers and was in and out in 2 minutes. Safeway is great but this one is severely understaffed and has no self checkout. If you like wasting time waiting in line just to buy your groceries, this is the place for you. read more

Safeway's "Just for U" coupon program is a scam. The swamp me with email showing coupons, . but do they work, no. I got on line and "click" each Item I want but they never show up at checkout. What a confusing program and it such a hassle. I was even have handed one with $0.30/gal for gas, but how was I to use it? It never showed up at the pump, so on the day it was to expire I just asked the station attendant, she just gave me a cash refund. "Just 4 U" is really "Just a Scam 4 U" read more

After 20+ years of shopping at this store, I have moved on. There has been a decline in this store over the last couple of years. The wait time in line is the biggest problem. It doesn't matter what time of day, there are always lines down the aisles with only a few slow checkers working. I've been in there during rush hour & overheard staff sending people on break, at rush hour. The customer service just isn't that great. Not very friendly or helpful, almost like you're bothering them when you ask questions. You need to be pretty careful checking labels here, expired food is a regular thing. I'm not sure if there's been a change in management or what, but there needs to be another change because this store needs some help. Shout out to the kind, helpful, efficient, will-go-the-extra-mile folks at Albertsons on 37th & Grand, who now have my loyalty. read more

Best of everything, they have a 5 star floral dept that is so impressive!!!! This store is easy to navigate in, hard wood floors in the produce dept, clean and updated, and all the checkers rock. They raised an incredible amount of money for breast cancer research. Big up's to these guys, they deserve much respect!!!! read more
