    Momma made salad...

I admit to having a soft spot for hipster, co-op market delis. I've never been to a bad one, and Huckleberry's is certainly in that category. Actually, this is one of the better ones in the Inland PNW. While they always have a TON of really well prepared deli salads, where you win the meal is at their hot option bar. My lovely Wifey spent her obligatory 15 mins looking at the deli case, with me trying to get her attention and get her to look at the hot items. And, of course, I got friggin' yelled at by her when she finally came over. 'Why didn't you tell me about this first!!??' Well sister, I tried...

Awesome products here. Staff is super kind and friendly. Store is bright with small aisles. Bathrooms in the back near the milk aisle. Large parking lot. There is plenty of hot food options for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! My mom and brother are big fans of the juice bar so we had to stop for a juice! I got the jumpstart (grapefruit, apple, ginger, spirulina) 16oz and was so impressed with the fresh quality. Highly recommend the juice and coffee bar here!!!

So this review is for the deli / hot food area. I dislike giving poor reviews because I get that sometimes a place may have an off day or may have an issue with helpers shortage. However I've recently and somewhat consistently have not had the best experience with the deli/hot food area at this Huckleberry's off of Monroe here on South Hill. Let me first start off with a positive. The people working here are all so very friendly and helpful. So thank you so much for that. My wife and I would get lunch here quite often due to the good quality and excellent portions, however just like so many places these days the quality and quantity has gone down hill, however the prices have not. It seems apparent they are starting to cut back on good stuff that most are wanting in a sandwich or burger; the meat. The other day I ordered what they had as the special for the day, a hamburger with chutney aioli. Sadly the burger was mostly bun and produce. I was disappointed as I was looking forward to a good juicy burger and not a salad in a bun. I ate it and brushed it off as maybe a fluke. Today, about 2 weeks after the great burger incident (poor attempt at humor) I ordered the French dip and the same thing, less meat and loaded with grilled onions. It was more like a grilled onion sandwich dip with a layer of meat, and again a lot of bread. Plus the meat was all folded up and pushed out toward the opening of the roll to make it look like you're getting more than you actually are. I don't know if that was their intent however that's what it seemed like. I Paid over $18 for this subpar sandwich, chips and a small drink. Now I totally understand that everyone is feeling the effects of rising prices, but honestly I would say stick to what you have been doing right and maybe up your prices some to keep up rather than skimping on the product. I think people expect that they are having to pay extra these days however if they are deciding to eat out, they want to get good quality and quantity for their buck. I'd be willing to pay a little extra to get what we used to get here. No one wants to feel like they are being fooled and ripped off. Lastly, the main reason I came in was actually for the tasty soup that they normally have. Unfortunately all except for the Potato Leek soup was empty . It was around lunch time so I'm willing to understand but seems like you would have a backup cooking and ready to put out if that is the norm around lunch time. Funny thing, I had actually gone in the store earlier to pick something up for my daughter, was going to get the soup at that time but noticed that they were out. I decided to take my daughter home and would return later, figuring surely they would have restocked upon my return. Returned about an hour later, and everything remained as was, empty except for the potato leek. So this is what lead me to order the sad grilled onion, or I mean French dip sandwich. After I had eaten the sandwich, I figured they would have likely restocked the soups and so I would get some to take home for dinner later. I check and still no soups. This is over 2 hours later. So now, as I'm sitting here in my car, wrapping up this review, I decided to go in one more time to see if the soups have been restocked. No such luck. I guess today is just not my day to get soup. LOL I'm just trying to get some soup for my wife who is a bit under the weather. They are keeping my me from scoring some extra points. Anyway, that's my whinny rant. I know we have bigger issues in the world. Hopefully today was just another off day that I had just been unfortunate to encounter each time.

The store is full of incredible array of products and the prices are great - which I love because when you have to battle it out with stores like Whole Foods, I prefer local over chains. We also decided to eat breakfast at their 9th Street Bistro. They have a vast variety on their menu - I chose the brûlée oatmeal, which was scrumptious. My partner had the breakfast sandwich, which he said was alright. Overall, the staff was nice and would recommend this place to travelers.

Shrimp Chow-Main my service dog working an an "alert" task.

It breaks my heart to say this but I was illegally discriminated against and told I wasn't welcome at Huckleberries at Monroe St. On 1/18/25 I tried to shop in the store with my medic alert service dog, Shrimp Chow-Main. According to ADA law, there are NO requirements for specific harnesses or insignia for service dogs. Businesses can legally ask 2 questions: 1. Is your dog a trained service dog? 2. What tasks are they trained for? Unfortunately I was harassed by Ian, the Floor Manager who said the following to me: 1. He was "trained to tell if someone had a a service dog" (ie. if I had a disability.) I mean if Ian really could diagnose my health problems, I would save $$$$ in medical bills! Bring it on Dr. Ian! 2. According to "Store policy" all service dogs had to wear a "Red vest" to be admitted. This is not an episode of Star Trek. Service dogs can wear whatever they want. 3. Ian chastised me for not reading the "Store policy" at the front of the store re: the "red vest requirement." Obviously Ian himself can't read as neither the pamphlet nor sign on the front door stated this policy. 4. Ian told me that I needed to leave my service dog "tied up outside" if I wanted to shop in the store. Ok Ian, it's 20 degrees outside and you're telling me to leave my $$$$ service dog that I scrimped and saved to pay for to leave outside to freeze and/or get kidnapped while I pass out out in the store all because Dr. Ian diagnosed me on sight as not being disabled. 5. I wasn't welcome back with my service dog. Ok fine - I'm from LA and was shocked at the sad wilted organic produce they were charging $$$$ more than what they charge at Whole Foods in LA for much better quality. I'll shop elsewhere since your produce is shockingly overpriced crap. 6. Ian then repeatedly chastised me for not reading the "store policy sign" and tried to hand me a "hand out defining the store policy about the "red vest." Again - he obviously hasn't read it because there's no such policy. 7. Also I wasn't allowed to serve myself from the hot bar because of "health code reasons" and I needed to keep my legal, trained service dog away from those areas. So no hot dinner for me that night... that's cool being hungry may inspire Shrimp to alert more. 7. Again, it's illegal to claim you can "diagnose" if someone has a disability or service dog. 8. There is no legal requirement that service dogs must wear a red vest or any insignia. My dog happened to be wearing a very cute harness that was a gift from his SERVICE DOG TRAINER. So Dr. Ian doesn't get to ban me from the store based on dog "fashion choices." If there as such a job, I'd apply for it and ban half of the shoppers at Wal-mart. 9. Neither the signs nor the pamphlet Ian repeatedly chastised me for "not reading" stating any such store policy about a red vest. 10. Service dog and their handlers are legally entitled to access any public business or space regardless of "what they're wearing" LOL. So Ian just looked at me and diagnosed as not disabled or having a legitimate service dog and banned me from the store based on his deep disdain for my dog's harness design and that I'm too cute to be disabled in his opinion?! Ironically, my dog is a medic alert dog - so if Ian kept at it, I could've ended up on the floor with my dog alerting and calling an ambulance... Good job Ian! You told put me in my place! Sadly, I'm only in town in exile from the LA fires. I don't have a car and specifically booked this Airbnb because it was across the street from Huckleberries. So for the next two weeks, I can't access the store while I'm here. Here is a pic of the "store policy" about the "Red vest" requirement I was scolded for "not reading" As you can - there is no such "red vest" requirement as it would be illegal to require it. Also - because he's cute - here's a pic of Shrimp "on the job" doing his service dog duties.

    Create your own sandwich

The food here is always good. I created my own sandwich for the first time and it was quick and delicious. At first I felt maybe it was too expensive but the sandwich is very thick and they do not skimp out on what you ask for! Staff is always kind and attentive. Food court usually kind of busy but I never have a problem finding a table.

Carnivore burger - bison patty, ham, bacon, Dijon and some fresh veggies

I've always loved Huckleberry's for so many reasons. Mainly shopped there and picked up the good ol late night slice of cake every so often. The other night though we ordered from their deli for the first time and it was AMAZING! I got the carnivore burger and am ashamed (kinda proud) to say I could've eaten two it was so good. A great thing just keeps getting better every time I go.

9th Street Bistro in Huckleberry's Natural Market
    Tim G.

Fantastic grocery store with a great selection of organic and natural products. Staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable. Perhaps my favorite is the 9th Street Bistro inside, which features a wide variety of food options including great breakfast and lunch choices. The service is fast and efficient, the ingredients are fresh, and everything I've ever had here is super yummy. They also do a great job accommodating special dietary needs. This is a fantastic spot to get breakfast or lunch, and then stock up on groceries!
