3/4 of a lb less at home.

So fellow shoppers, if you can't get enough of being ripped off by corporate America this Safeway will make your dreams come true! I bought what I thought was 3 lbs of 93% ground beef. But when I took it home, unwrapped it from the plastic wrap and weighed it on my scale (to get 2 lbs for my recipe and put 1 lb away in the freezer) I discovered it was only 2 lbs 15 oz. That's including the store's tray, so it really was less than 2:15. So if you like being cheated, rush down to the meat dept and see if you can be ripped off too! You better hurry. I'm notifying state bureau of weights and measures to see if they care to do anything about it. From now on, it's the local carneceria for me. What was I thinking? I hate corporations anyway!

THE GOOD 1. This Safeway was renovated after Albertson's, a mile up the road, moved out and the higher priced Haggen's moved in. 2, The smell disappeared. 3. The meat department got a manned counter with happy butchers. 4. Transgendered people will have no possible embarrassment using the single public restroom and toilet. 5. They now have an occasional security guard at the front door. THE BAD 1. They need a security guard at the front door. A year ago, I saw a woman's purse pulled from her arm near the shopping carts. 2. No nearby competition. The neighboring Haggen's store vanished and was replaced by Albertson's after it merged with Safeway. The three large grocery stores on Silverbell Road, including this one, are all owned by Safeway and carry various stocks of the same products. 3. This location no longer carries the best mass produced yogurt in the US made by Tillamook. They dropped Smart Balance® margarine and no longer stock Bumble Bee® Prime Fillet Albacore Tuna with Sun-dried Tomatoes & Olive Oil (according to Anthony). Tillamook ice-cream is rumored to disappear soon. THE UGLY The toilet. I got cut on the door to the restroom. The sharp edge of the push plate is now hammered safely flat. CONCLUSION Because of the good people that work here, I am truly sad to say that this old store is well below average.

Ok place. Too many ragged, drunk people coming in and making scene. Tough to control being there, but still unpleasant.

They still have the pizza take out bar with a variety of toppings. They have some items or brands you won't find in other places but may not have brands you get elsewhere. It's nice to discover some new things you haven't tried before. The bakery has some tempting things to look at. The store is large with wide enough aisles so you can browse easily. Prices are a little higher than other places but some things may be worth it. The parking is limited only because of all the other businesses in the area. I'll go back and look around again. I can usually find something I want to try.

They also have ready made sushi, which is what I ended up getting. They have a little something for everyone ranging from your typical American food like pizza, pasta, chicken fingers and salads to Mexican, Indian and Asian food. The sushi I got was really tasty. The spring rolls I got were okay but the dipping sauce is not what I expected which was a tangy sauce. Usually for spring rolls it's a peanut sauce. For sushi they have low sodium soy sauce available which is a plus. There is very limited seating at the store to sit down and eat so most likely you'll have to bring your food home. All in all, it's not bad. Fairly cheap, and a decent selection!

I guess you have to be a little bit crazy to want to do customer service work and to do it well because the shoppers at the Wilmot location have been known to be grumpy, hung-over, rich people from the Sabino Canyon foothills area."

They add features, cute trade names, and try to develop cults around products to boost sales. While it's not a bad idea to boost sales, the basics have to be right. I have to choose this locale, where I went Wednesday, to moan about the severe hike in prices, short cycle of products, and the drift from doing the basics correctly. TJ used to march to a different drummer. House brands with quality for household staples, often with an international flavor and source. There is still a wide variety of decent international staples, but it's highly focused on cult products and flavorings. Prepackaged and ultra-processed foods are becoming standard(s). Protein is down, carbs are up. There's still a reasonable variety of veggies, fresh, but not in wide abundance. Certain common items, like walnuts, go missing for long periods of time, and other items become seasonable and their shelf space is unreliable. So while it's still good, there is now wade through the weeds of products that are edge-case. Hail Mary Marketing attempts. I bristle.
