Came by looking for some quick items for healthy protein snacks for bike ride and we found all what we were looking for plus some. For those few who are fans of Coconut Cult, they have them here and plenty at that!!! I was so happy to see it and I got a small jar for my four days stay. This is my favorite Safeway in Tucson. I love the staff here they are super helpful and kind. They go out of their way to help you find things and if they are out of cookies boxed up from the bakery section they will grab more from the back. The parking here is easy, the prices are the same as everywhere else so not surprised by anything. Everything is well stocked and their are tons of options. The bakery is the best. Try the "Almond Joy" cookies they make fresh. I am obsessed! read more

So fellow shoppers, if you can't get enough of being ripped off by corporate America this Safeway will make your dreams come true! I bought what I thought was 3 lbs of 93% ground beef. But when I took it home, unwrapped it from the plastic wrap and weighed it on my scale (to get 2 lbs for my recipe and put 1 lb away in the freezer) I discovered it was only 2 lbs 15 oz. That's including the store's tray, so it really was less than 2:15. So if you like being cheated, rush down to the meat dept and see if you can be ripped off too! You better hurry. I'm notifying state bureau of weights and measures to see if they care to do anything about it. From now on, it's the local carneceria for me. What was I thinking? This store legit never has what I need . Don't ever count on getting fresh herbs because they won't have the ones you need every other time. I couldn't find fresh dill or pita bread.... How is that possible? Wegmans really spoiled me because Safeways suck ass and I literally have to change my dinner plans if I decide to go there read more

THE GOOD 1. This Safeway was renovated after Albertson's, a mile up the road, moved out and the higher priced Haggen's moved in. 2, The smell disappeared. 3. The meat department got a manned counter with happy butchers. 4. Transgendered people will have no possible embarrassment using the single public restroom and toilet. 5. They now have an occasional security guard at the front door. THE BAD 1. They need a security guard at the front door. A year ago, I saw a woman's purse pulled from her arm near the shopping carts. 2. No nearby competition. The neighboring Haggen's store vanished and was replaced by Albertson's after it merged with Safeway. The three large grocery stores on Silverbell Road, including this one, are all owned by Safeway and carry various stocks of the same products. 3. This location no longer carries the best mass produced yogurt in the US made by Tillamook. They dropped Smart Balance® margarine and no longer stock Bumble Bee® Prime Fillet Albacore Tuna with Sun-dried Tomatoes & Olive Oil (according to Anthony). Tillamook ice-cream is rumored to disappear soon. THE UGLY The toilet. I got cut on the door to the restroom. The sharp edge of the push plate is now hammered safely flat. CONCLUSION Because of the good people that work here, I am truly sad to say that this old store is well below average. read more

Ok place. Too many ragged, drunk people coming in and making scene. Tough to control being there, but still unpleasant.

We shop here regularly since it is so close to our home, but so disappointed on many aggravating problems that arrive at check out. Many times there is only one check out lane, so we are force to use the self-checkout lane. Beware of the many many time you need to call over the "employee observer" to try to complete a transaction. The system they use is inadequate and needs to be updated. If you buy produce, the headaches begin. The staffer on our last trip was not very customer friendly, which hasn't been the case with all other employees. Maybe a bad day? The produce has been fresh and well stocked. read more

If you go to this Safeway, you will see a cashier named Karen who will anticipate your every need. I was searching for a plastic bag drop and she saw me and went out of her way to show me where it was moved to. As I went to the new spot, I saw her ask. Customer what they needed and she actually left the store to get someone a special sized cart. She is a gem and I hope the store appreciates her. read more

I'm bumping this one up to three stars. It's been two years since my initial review and there have actually been some notable improvements which warrant a review update. The organic produce selection actually exists now! It's still small...but when I'm in a pinch and I don't feel like making a trip to the Co-op or whole foods, I at least know I can find some organic items like salad greens, herbs, veggies. The organic fruit is inconsistent, but lately the berries have been good. Additionally, the snack aisle has some new additions that are organic, gluten free, non GMO. ChickABoom popcorn is one of them and my favorite snack-Pirates Booty is always in stock. The fact that I can pick up some basic staples that are organic is worth the update. The staff here is by far the friendliest in the Tucson! read more

Who would think you would have to watch your eggs for more than the the occasional crack. Both these eggs came out of a large container. I weighed both of them and the smaller one is a medium egg. I don't think this is an accident. read more

Finally getting a little cosmetic overhaul, the store is small and had the normal grocery items. The fact that there are tamale sellers outside the doors doesn't bother me, in fact I have picked up a few every now and then. good prices and a helpful staff. read more

This Safeway is super great, it is organized very well and the customer service is exceptional!! The girl that rang me up by the name of Nicole was super nice and worked at a great pace considering the fact that there was a line! In their "Signature Cafe," they have these really good and filling noodle/salad bowls and some of them are vegetarian too. So $3 for a lunch mmmm. Safeway has some extremely expensive items like the cheese and they don't really have the ground turkey/fish/shrimp I usually want. The Starbucks is not that great - the workers usually charge you the price of the similar drinks (you want a misto, we will give you a latte and add for all the extra add-ins). Sometimes it is a hit and miss with the flavors too. The staff are nice, but I have never been in a short line - there are always 3-4 people ahead of me no matter what time of the day. My friend once told me a really good rule that he lives by and that is to never go into a store where one of the letters in the main sign is missing. Too bad it applies to this Safeway... It was a good attempt in the re-flooring but the rest of the store was too Janky. Safeway club prices aren't even that competitive when compared to Frys and with a nicer Albertsons a mile away and a much nicer Safeway on Grant I'm not sure why anyone would do the majority of their grocery shopping here. Sure I understand that convenience and location are nice but if I was spending 60 bucks or more on groceries I'd rather spend it at a cleaner/nicer one. read more

The store manger and employees are the most oblivious people ever. Just stood at the deli counter to ask a question. Two employees working, one in-back, one off to the right side packing food. Never acknowledged that there where three of standing there for service. I think this place only exists to serve the poor wretches that can't go anywhere else. St Mary's is just across the street. How can they have duck poor service. They all need to be fired and start we new employees who want to be there and help. Stay away from this place it sucks!!!!! read more

Pretty nice store onside but they need to take Carr of the exterior better, it just looks iffy. THR inside is nice and the staff is super nice; but you know Safeway, they charge noticeable higher prices and have a very limited selection of fresh and international foods. Vegetables are expensive, and so Is the general merchandise. read more

I wish I were writing a good review of this Safeway -- it used to be my favorite Safeway. It is my neighborhood and I've been going there for 17 yrs. For years, employees would greet you and genuinely seem to care whether you were having a good shopping experience. The employees seemed happy, too. The lines were short and and the shelves were well stocked -- and the produce was among the freshest in Tucson. Though I still live in the neighborhood, I now dread going to the store. They have rotated the long time employess out of the store. The remaining ones always look stressed out and seem annoyed when you the customer asks them a question. The last time I went I stood in an "Express Line for 15 items or Less" for 15 min..When I asked the checker if this was an express line, since the woman in front of me was checking out about 30 items totaling over 100 dollars, he snapped that at this time of night (7pm) I had to take what I could get. Then, he went on talking and laughing w/ the female customer who the 30 items. When the checker finally got to me, he was very open about his displeasure with me (the custormer) asking whether there was an express line for people w/ fewer than 15 items. The politeness and genuine good customer service at Safeway seems to be a thing of the past. I head over to Albertson's now, a mile farther than Safeway.. There, I feel that they at least care that I'm paying a customer and it might be a good idea to try to answer my questions with courtesy. read more

You will save time if you drive a few miles to another store. They are consistently under staffed, the soup is out by noon. The management staff is hiding during lunch rush. I'm not sure why people keep going to this store. Their prices are the same so they should be able to maintain as much staff as everyone else. There IS one notable exception, she is a kind, together, African American, cashier. read more
