Absolutely horrible service! Some of the most racist people I have ever had to interact with! First, they told me I have to move my car out of the disability parking spot because apparently I'm not disabled enough for them when I have a placard verifying that I can legally park there. And what's with their chicken? It looks so old and is the color grey. Then there card reader wasn't working and NOBODY would help me. I finally left my cart of groceries there and walked out. Very prejudice people!!!!! Won't be going back and I will be reporting them to the BBB and probably FDA for their rotten chicken they're trying to sell. read more

I went to Food ity Sahuarita this morning and used the self check out! I requested assistance checking some produce items for me by name from a lady that was working the morning shift! She responded by asking me if I knew how to spell? I responded yes and told her that i could spell in two lenguages! Did she ask me about my spelling because she noticed my hispanic accent? I wish they would remodel this Food City. It's prime location for college students to get some amazing meat for a cookout along with low priced vegetables and fruits. This location is small and the floor layout is not the best. It feels crowded and hard to move throughout the store. Employees are nice and helpful. Try the chopped nopalitos in bags 2.69 $ the cooler North of produce . Great in smoothies , eggs, soups and google the heath benefits . Great produce deals on wed & often fri sat Sunday . Mexican cheese , meats , bollito said & baked goods. Owned by Bashas foothills Bashas ,carried nopalitos one week for me thanks tom but quit. Also nopalitos available at Bashas swan ft lowell. Native diet staple helps rudimentary blood sugar & more. Produce sales on wed & sometimes fri sat & Sunday weekend sales like parent store Bashas. Slow checkout lines but worth the wait? Got it in my head to make a mess of chiles rellenos--south texas-style! Selection of chiles poblanos for stuffing would be slim at my eastside safeway and basha's, so I went where I knew I could get what I needed: Food City by Reid Park. There I waded through a mountain of poblanos, literally 3 feet high. Bought a bag of HOT jalapenos too--not the shape-shifter bell pepper ones that are infiltrating like pod people. Are they GMO or what? 5 Stars for my intents and purposes. 3 Stars, though, for the traffic jam in the produce section which shares a navigating isle with the exit/entrance to the store. read more

Rarely do stores do "bait and switch" anymore, because it is illegal, but this Food City store on 22nd takes that illegal tactic a step further, they do the bait to get you in, but don't bother to do the switch. I went in for their advertised sale on T-bone steaks and beef ribs, but they had none. Others, or at least two other people, were at the meat counter also looking for them too. But I was the only one bold enough to seek out the butcher in the back. When I asked the butcher if they had any in the back, he said I would have to wait 20 minutes, which I did not have. So I asked the cashier when if I could have a "rain check" but she said no, because they might have somewhere, they just had not put them out yet. R. Kimball read more

We had never visited Food City. We just moved to the area so we decided to try it. It looks a bit sketchy outside but was clean and organized inside. The beverages were a good bargain but other items seemed to be about the same prices as other local grocery chains. It's a small store so there aren't a wide variety of selections but we found everything we needed. They carry a good amount of Hispanic items and brands. Also, the butcher area had a lot of options. The gentleman who waited on us was very polite. We didn't wait to long to be rung up. I'd visit occasionally but prefer some of the other chains. read more

THE place for when I want to cook Mexican food. My typical shopping list here consists of tostadas, mole (I like the Rogelio Bueno brand), jalapenos, Mexican candy, tortillas, and avocados. The avocados here are consistently the cheapest in Tucson. I have bought them 4/$1 which is unheard of in town. Food City often has one-day sales where they come out even cheaper than that. So what if they are a bit unripe at times? Nothing a little patience can't fix. The trafffic surrounding this location often makes it hard to enter the parking lot but no biggie really. And this being Tucson and the store being on 22nd, you often see wandering "characters" . So yeah. However, I'm willing to brave this considering how cheap stuff is. read more

Awesome place for those Mexican items you can't find anywhere. Great values to be had in their dairy and especially their produce. Their meats are really bad though. It's inexpensive at face value, but once you open one of their packages you notice they pack them to hide the massive amounts of tendons and fat hiding underneath. Both need and chicken are labor intensive to clean, and you end up paying way more for the little meat you actually get out of it. read more

The occasional homeless person arguing with employees since he requested water to fill his cup and they directed him to another establishment even though it was 104 degrees that day !!! I come here to pick up cheap spices, dried and canned goods, or meat on sale because it's close to my house. For those things it's great. I also like to pick up the fresh roasted chilis they usually have in the fridge by the registers when I need it. I would avoid any fresh produce though. It never looks good and isn't very cheap compared to Fry's. read more

Bottom line: Give them a try. They are an ethnic market, so be patient take your time and ask questions but, dont be afraid/ scared. I will be the first to admit mexican food isnt my favorite, BUT I love mexican grocery stores. I will also tell you another secret that I learned from a friend that worked at aj's fine foods: Food city, Aj's fine foods and Bashas are all owned by the same people, thus they buy the produce from the same people. I do suggest buying your fresh produce here (or at sprouts [higher quality]) because it is muuuuuuuuch cheaper here. So being that they are getting produce form same suppliers they have similar quality than the local fancy Aj's. This also my go to place for fresh dill, mint, cilantro, and water cress as they always have those and always nice looking. If you know how to buy meat and can spot good from crap I will highly recommend shopping here, something I learned in a beef resource management course (shut up it was too a real class it had field trips and everything) I took in college, is that many of the brokers will give you a good deal when you buy super nice stuff if you also buy some of their crap too. Now you would think that the crap filters down to food city, and some does, but most of the lower grade stuff makes it to bashas. I think this is due to the fact that at food city they sell some of the more ethnic cuts which probably are ones that the guys who are wholesaling the nice stuff want to move due to the fact no one cares that your heart, cheeks, liver or tripe came from a prime, choice, select or even an old milk cow. but the chuck, ground beef, and the ethnic cuts are always decent quality and cheap. Their pork and poultry deals are also nothing to shake a stick at. I wont buy my fish here, I will only buy fish from about 3 stores in tucson. The canned goods are neat, they have every thing you could want for mexican cooking. I will also say the cliché thing of get salsa, and sauces here, but you should as they have a good selection, and great prices. For the love of god you should buy dried spices here, you can get most in packets that larger than you need for a dollar and you can just constantly buy fresh packs for when you need them so they dont go bad on you. Cheeses, If you havent tried some mexican cheese yet, shame on you. However it is not too late, Queso Oaxaca is an excellent replacement for mozzarella (but not the other way around) and is fantastic for snacking. queso fresco is a soft fresh cheese that is a must with tacos and burritos. queso cojita/ ranchero good replacement for feta, and is awesome on beans. queso quesadilla is the closesit thing to colby/jack/cheddar and is shockingly what you should use for making quesadillas and for omelets. Queso monterey is monterey jack cheese duh. Bottom line: Give them a try. They are an ethnic market, so be patient take your time and ask questions but, dont be afraid/ scared. read more

stopped at food city on the way out of town to grab some mexican candies for treats for people back home. they had a good selection of candies, and a real reasonalbe price. i didn't really look around the store for anything else, but i know that this grocery store is very inexpensive! read more

I wish the produce section was a little bigger, but that is my only complaint! I come here for all of my produce. You can't beat 4 pounds of oranges for $1! The produce is always great, accessible, and best of all- affordable. You don't have to be shopping for just Hispanic ingredients to find a treasure here. I get my fruits, vegetables, lettuce and seasonings from here as well (Did I mention the awesome prices on their huge spice selection?? As low as $.80!). However other than produce and spices, I think that everything else is overpriced, ironically! Looks a little bit shady from the outside in a run down parking lot, but it's not that big of a deal! read more

This gets less stars because it's smaller and doesn't have all the good stuff that other locations have. However, it still has most of the necessities I need at food city, and has a friendly staff. All around a solid food city if you can't make it to a larger one. read more
