This store is one of the main groceries stores in town so it usually pretty busy. There are self checkout and regular checkout station. It is California and the new law so bags are paper bags. The pharmacy has a long line. They usually have what I need food wise. To save money use the app. The store is organized and pretty clean. I wish there was more staff to make things go quicker especially in the deli. read more

This was a convenient stop. Gas was 5.39 a gallon on this day, so we refueled our tank, both human and auto. This Safeway has a Starbucks. Also stopped here 2 days later, omw home from Humboldt and gas had increased by 15 cent. All in all we got what we needed. read more

90% of the people that work here seem miserable and make it known. Pretty much every time I'm there I get a negative comment from an employee. Cashiers giving attitude for bringing your own bags or having one item over the limit for self checkout it's always something. I did not appreciate the vaguely rude comment about using the express checkout versus the self checkout during my last visit at the willits location, by I believe the cashier named Jeff or Jeffery. Makes me not want to shop here anymore. Some prefer not to use self checkout. I am one who prefers not to, and would appreciate to go about my business as such without a comment along the lines of "all the trouble of waiting for that? Didn't you see those things behind you?(referring to the self checkout stations)" If he doesn't like cashiering, maybe her should work the loads in the back or stock, or curtiousy clerk/bag. Being rude to customers is uncalled for. Some people are going through things others know nothing about and comments like this, while being paid on the job, are just uncalled for. read more

There are Safeways that are part of the fabric of a bigger city, and then there are Safeways where it seems like anyone in 50 square miles depends on them as their sole shopping resource. This Safeway feels like the latter. Willits may be a small town, but this Safeway is hopping, and not necessarily in a good way. We stopped in for some supplies and a coffee (see separate Starbucks review). The store is your typical Safeway with some expensive prices and hit-or-miss selection. The clientele are a cross section of humanity: farmers, hippies, tourist families, but mostly folks passing through town. In general, it's a little smaller and a lot more crowded, leading to a less than stellar experience. Still, they do fill a need and we were able to get everything we came in for. Balance your expectations and you'll probably walk away with the same opinion. read more

Pharmacy is a waste of your time. Staff is lazy and unhelpful. They were too busy to give me antibiotics for ear infection because of inventory mid morning. They offered to sent prescription to nearby pharmacy. I gave it a few hours and to my surprise it was never sent over. Even though I explained I was in pain from ear infection there were still unable to provide me my medication for infection or transfer it over to another store. read more

The cashier did not ring up every item that the guy in front of me put on the belt. Instead, he charged me for the items. When I went back to return the items (literally 30 seconds after paying), he rolled his eyes and proceeded to tell me I must have put the items there. Unfortunately, I had no need for canned cranberry and pickles. It was obviously the guy who was purchasing his Christmas dinner items. Either way I smiled and said ok. As I was leaving, he lets me know if I do it again, he wont be giving me my money back. Again I smiled and said ok. He proceeded to say something under his breath (that I won't repeat what my wife thought she heard) and when I turned to give the gentlemen the reaction he was seeking, my wife stepped in and reminded me that the cashier was an idiot. He should thank his lucky stars my wife stepped in or the reaction he was seeking was the reaction he was going to get. I don't remember the guys name, but he spoke with some sort of speech impediment. He lacked any class and his shirt was as dirty as a two year old child eating spaghetti. Casually wiping the snot from his nose as he rang up my items. Safeway should probably have him in the back, away from people who spend their money at this establishment. read more

Safeway in Willits California has challenges. when you go in it's quite common to find a multitude of their staff in the produce department with all their crates trying to stock Produce. Same thing also happens in the dairy department crates are in front of the products that you want to get to. They should stock during the night when the store is closed. read more

This is the worst Safeway I have ever been to my first complaint being that the bathroom was clogged and almost flooded when I came in so I had to relieve myself in the corner of the stall! I then got some barbecue chicken from the deli, the guy serving me chicken nearly drooled in my food as he handed it to me so I think Safeway needs new employees. When I finally tried the chicken it tasted like a burnt orphanage and I almost vomited. read more

I hope folks that read reviews take in consideration a number of the poor reviews we read are based on triggered emotions but hey to each their own. They do have the freedom to express themselves how they see fit. At least that's what my take is when reading some of the reviews about this Safeway. But seriously, how do you expect a business to control what "type" of customer comes in? To a business a customer is simply that..a customer. As a customer, I found this Safeway to be very well stocked. I was surprised to see that a grocery store in a smallish town would have sushi and pork buns. The bbq pork in the deli was fresh, moist and delicious. The sandwiches were "created" by an artist as well. The customer service provided by the checker was just right. I would think people would be more understanding of the challenges this location presents and in my professional opinion, this Safeway deserves a five star review. So here it is! :) Keep it up and I would hope Safeway continues to keep their Safeway in Willits open even in lieu of the unappreciative reviews. read more

Well we may not have choices beyond here for groceries and food at reasonable costs, we can count on a smiling face most of the time and staff willing to correct mistakes on the receipt. This place has been a cornerstone of the community since the late 1930s and it has changed its layout and faces since with new staff joining all the time. The Albertsons takeover as corporate owner has led to many hiccups along with Covid supply and demand, yet they continue to make do with what they have and realize as community members themselves the issues that still persist. The Starbucks is the Latest Upgrade along with Pickup and Go option that saves a long wait when spots are open. The APP is a must as savings abound with point redemption available on everyday products when gas is not needed, they even have a hidden receipt record hidden at the bottom of the wallet page that makes sure your order was right with staff accepting it as an option of default for those computer hiccups. read more

Isles were clean and uncluttered when I visited and the store was well stocked overall. Ours was a quick trip but that's because we found what we wanted easily and were out again quickly. Horrible service at the deli. 4 employees. 3 customers. They walked by me and my wife 5 times and looked right at us. We Said hi. They looked at us and ignored us like we werent in existence on this earth. Not one employee said ill be with you in a moment. We sat there for 10 min with our jaws open. Is this the twilight zone. Usually not stocked. Half of patrons with no mask. Some yelling to each other up and down aisles without masks and in your face literally. I really have to say it's just another grocery store. I only stopped on my way to Fortuna to pick up food and drinks for working on a microwave path to Petrolia. So not sure if it war rents 5 stars but it is well stocked and the service was great. A clerk helped me find food we were looking for and the cashier was pleasant and quite polite. In my opinion this store has no regard for its patroons! No do many of the people shopping in this disorganized overstocked facility! First stop, bakery ask to have bread sliced,two loafs later, brought bread home, looks like it has been torn apart. No way can I toast it or make sandwiches. Next, produce 5.00 veg trays, all cauliflower rotten. Next, deli. First Lady ask for mixed bucket fried chicken. She said "I didn't see you put in any wings" oh we don't have any. ". She got a bucket and a dollar off. I said I want the same thing. Different helper, no bucket, a bag, no dollar off. I like Safeway in general but every time I take the time to look at my receipt it has mistakes and not in my favor. When they have buy one get one free you seem to get the discount half the time. I don't know what's going on in this town, but stopping into the Safeway for a pit stop and lunch stuff whilst en route from Oregon to SoCal was like stumbling into an episode of The Walking Dead. The store was mostly okay. This is an older-style market so you have to go into the back stockroom to use the restrooms. And the deli was fully swamped with a pack of yammering school kids. Don't they serve lunch at the local high school? But virtually everyone we saw walking through town, lurching across the parking lot, or driving around was moving at zombie speed, and just seemed either brain-dead of really angry. Everytime we head up to Crescent .City, this is one of our gasoline stops. The gasoline at this Safeway is cheaper than anyone else in the area. You can also save some money if you use your club card. The location is also conveniently located near the highway.
