Currently it's pick up only with plenty of space to safely avoid others while waiting if you show up too early. I'm that person that likes to try out all the options even though I KNOW there is one superior dish on the menu (that luckily my husband orders so I usually steal some). This is the Mughlai Aloo. Perfectly cooked potatoes in this creamy tomato sauce with an amazing blend of spices. It seriously one of the best things I've ever eaten. Yet I keep trying other things! Chana masala? Delicious. Saag Paneer? Amazing little bits of cheese with a dense spinach sauce. Paneer Jalfrezi? Those same cheese bits in a beautiful curry sauce. Samosas? Heavenly. Always order more naan or roti than you think you need! Especially garlic or chili naan because you'll definitely eat it by itself as well as with your dish. Oh, and order the rice. So, their most popular dish seems like Chicken Tika Marsala -- which really more British than Indian, like Egg Foo Young is more American than Chinese. It's a Hindi restaurant, so there are no options like Beef Nihari or Beef Biryani. Also, no ghost pepper naan. Very disappointed with the Chicken Tika Marsala, tasted like they had a huge pot of Marsala sauce going and they pour it over the chicken, easier to produce, but the what winds up happening is a bland Marsala sauce that doesn't have chicken flavor infused. So, the flavor feels like a Caesar Salad with chicken chunks in it topped with Caesar Salad dressing. We ordered 3 entrees The Firecracker chicken which was good and spicy, The Hakka noodles were okay, somewhat dry and lacked some flavor. The Butter Chicken, had good sauce but was so small with the portions they had maybe 10 small pieces of chicken, totally bummed for three people to share it wasn't much meat at all. We are regulars at saffron. We love this place. This is probably one of the top 3 Indian restaurants in Phoenix for me. The food is always so fresh, clean. It never disappoints (fingers crossed). We were greeted very nicely upon arrival without any idea on what to get, yet the owner explained everything that we had questions about very throughly and made us feel even better about our choice of restaurant. We have nothing but great things to say about the food that we devoured! This is by far one of our families favorite restaurants. We frequent it because we all enjoy the food so much. Everything is absolutely amazing and the service is excellent. The Channa Masala was terrible, wasn't fresh at all and It lacked flavor. The garbanzos beans looked like they were canned grade, it was really bad. Chicken tiki masala had a couple more bites of chicken; wasn't great & it was the same only watery quality sauce, which was advertised as "rich & creamy." No it was not. Naan wasn't bad. However, it was the least amount of naan for the price I've ever had. We spent close to $40 on a meal for 2. We're not big portion eaters & eat healthy, but this was ridiculous! The nutrient quality was low. The food we had couldn't have been over 250 calories per person....might as well had a protein shake- would have provided more nutrients & taste. I also agree that the fact that rice is charged separately feels like we are getting ripped off. We also tried the Paneer Wrap and the french fries that came with it had SUGAR on them...EWW!
