Please note this review is solely based my experience with trying to book an appointment. I have super curly, thick hair. For my birthday, my mom offered to get me a Ouidad haircut at Saffron, and I was beyond excited. When I called to book an appointment, no one answered, but it was close to closing time, so I figured I would try another day. After calling 4-5 different times over a week or so, I still was unable to get a hold of anyone. I finally left a voicemail, but no one ever returned my call. About a week or so later, I finally sent an e-mail to the salon asking to book an appointment with Amanda or Aviva. I specifically requested them because from their pictures online, their hair was the style I was trying to achieve. Anyways, I immediately get a phone call from a receptionist. "Amanda told me I needed to call you back, what did you want?" I was completely taken aback. Even if Amanda had not relayed the e-mail info, why would you speak to someone like that? When I told her I wanted to book an appointment with Amanda or Aviva, she said coldly, "Oh, they aren't taking any new clients at this time." She offered to make me an appointment with one of the other stylist, but not only was my heart set on Amanda or Aviva, but after the customer service (or lack thereof) I had experienced, I decided to forgo the haircut completely. Instead, I decided to wait until I visited Phoenix for winter break, and I made an appointment at a Ouidad Salon there. (Visual Impact in Scottsdale). WOW! The cut was amazing! By far the best cut I have ever had in my life. My curls have never looked better! And my stylist and the receptionist were both very friendly. If you are lucky enough to be allowed to make an appointment at this "exclusive" salon, the Ouidad cut is truly amazing. But if you are looking for the customer service to go with it, you might be better off going elsewhere. read more

Got the Ouidad haircut & absolutely love how much more defined my curls got afterwards!

I hadn't cut my hair for over 12 years, other than an occassional trim. It was down to the middle of my back; wavy, but too frizzy. I heard about the Ouidad technique and decided to try it out. I indicated to my stylist that I wanted to bring out the curl and add some shape. She cut it to my shoulders and when dry it is much shorter. The Ouidad products really curled it up, but it also hid the flaws in the cut. A couple of weeks later I went back to get it fixed. I told the second stylist that it was too boxy along my jaw line and I wanted it curved. She just cut it shorter and I still have the same problem -- a bad cut. It is now shorter than I have ever had it and takes way too much time to use the products to get the right curl. I could just cry. I don't mind paying $120 for a cut - if I liked it. The products do what they promise, but it takes over an hour to style with special hair dryers and 6 or more bottles of stuff that begin at $14 each. Saffron Salon is a nice place with nice people. Unfortunately, the two ladies I dealt with were trained to do one type of cut -- the one that doesn't work for me. I think I'll wait another decade before I get it cut again. :* ( read more

Maybe I had too many high expectations for this salon and their "ouidad" haircut or maybe my stylist was under time pressure; either way I truly did not like my haircut or experience at this salon. I was so excited in the anticipation of my appt. Little did I know I would be spending 4 hrs at the salon with my stylist most likely overbooked, tending to other customers during my appointment. Yes, she was almost 30 minutes late starting with me. She did inform me she would be late but then you would expect her to focus her time and attention solely on you. Yet, she had enough time during my appointment to wash 2 peoples hair and start another haircut. All the while, I held my tongue and stayed under the dryer or stayed in my chair waiting for her to come back. Other stylists had at least 2 to 3 customers each done during my time there. At the end of the day, I was starving for lunch since I finally was done by 1430 from a 1000 appt. Please don't overbook! I have more to say but I'm going to restrain myself. I've been going to Aviva at Saffron for about 7 or 8 years. NOBODY can do my color like she does. She makes my mousy gray hair glisten with natural looking hi-lights that other stylists drool over. She leaves just enough of the gray to keep people guessing that the whole thing could just be a miracle of nature. Aviva also understands my wanky growth pattern and is patient with my outrageous requests to tame it into something soft and straight. I never leave Saffron feeling "done up". I always get a style that suits me and that I can work with. All of the ladies who work there are lovely and the salon is always joyfully buzzing. I would highly recommend getting your foot in the door...as long as you don't take my appointment! read more

I love this salon. I've been coming here since they opened. There are several stylists - Amanda, the proprietor, Aviva, and Suzy. Jane does mani/pedis. Amanda has always cut my hair. I love how attentive and skilled she is. Whenever I want a different cut, she listens, we look at pictures, she makes recommendations and my cut is always good. Both she and Aviva are specialists with curly hair. I have many friends who have told me the nightmares they have had trying to get a good cut. I sent one of my friends to Amanda and she is hooked. I saw here newest cut and it made her look younger. Who can ask for more. I would recommend any of the stylists. I see all of their work and they do a great job. Be sure to make an appointment ahead of time. They are all busy and can't take you right away, so you need to plan. read more

I went to this place after reading the reviews on yelp. I wasn't disappointed. Price: 35$ (+5$ tip) Why it was good: I didn't have an extremely specific way I wanted my haircut. I told Renee that I had an interview tomorrow, and I wanted to look clean and professional. She had no problem with me being vague and the result was exactly what I wanted. I have lived in many cities, states and countries and I keep going back to get my haircut by Amanda at Saffron. I may get a touch-up in London or Dublin, but I always end up going to Saffron at least once a year. Her color is only the best I have seen anywhere, and her ability to turn my vague requests into concrete hairstyles is amazing. read more

I have just moved to Napa and while we were working on the house, I decided to get my acrylics removed to avoid breakage or lifting which would open the door for other problems. Not knowing the area, I checked Yelp and decided to run down to the closest salon that came up. I walked into what looked like a very lovely salon only to be looked at from head to toe by the front desk employee who promptly disappeared into the salon. She never came back! Two other customers who were obviously done were clearly embarrassed as I asked them if only well dressed patrons get service at this salon. Granted, I was wearing sweats which, although covered in dry paint, were quite clean. I had no make-up or jewelry on and my hair was pulled back in a bun. I could understand if they had said they were worried about getting paint on their chairs or something similar, but to be ignored completely is totally unacceptable -- in any business establishment. I can't speak to the other services this salon offers, but they totally fail with regard to customer service. The one star is the only way I could post this. I have been a customer for over a year, and love the stylists. I moved to California from the East Coast where I had gotten the Ouidad cut from both the flagship store and the Ouidad salon in Westport. When I moved back to California the only Ouidad certified salon I found was in Southern California. Luckily, after a few months I saw Saffron added to the Ouidad website. I booked my appointment, and got back to getting my curly hair cut correctly, with the carve and slice method. My stylist is Aviva, who is wonderful. She understands how to work with curly hair to keep it hydrated and prevent damage- as well as shaping it so you don't get a big, frizzy pyramid. I believe that all of the stylists in the salon are now Ouidad certified. From the numerous appointments I've had, I've always been happy with my haircut (and even got my mom to join in the fun)! Everyone I see leaving looks great. Beyond the technical expertise, everyone in the salon is friendly and professional. They all greet the customers warmly, and clearly work hard to keep the atmosphere positive and relaxing. I am glad I found this salon and won't be leaving anytime soon! read more

After moving to Santa Clara, CA from Fountain Inn, SC and having an outstanding Ouidad sylist in Charlotte, NC, I struggled to let just anyone cut my curly hair. My husband thinks I'm nut for traveling all the way to Napa but it's worth every penny. I had another GREAT Ouidad haircut and style with Suzy last week (my first was back in January 2012). I originally set the appointment for Saturday and then realized I over scheduled myself (ugh!) A quick phone call and Suzy rescued me by working me into her schedule...Suzy, YOU ROCK!! My new 'do is fresh for summer and the compliments I'm getting are worth the drive. Another great note about Suzy?! My aunt from CT is coming for a visit in June and has curly hair like me. Terrible experience. I booked an appt for my daughters 16th bday. She was so looking forward to this Ouidad cut. We drove from Pleasanton to Napa, enjoying the beauty of the drive. We arrived and had Avia as our stylist. She did a good job on my daughter . When I went to pay however and book the next appt, I was taken back by this old woman at the front desk. She would not only let me book an appt for myself, but she was extremely rude about it. I would never ever recommend this salon to anyone. My daughter and I left their thinking, WOW, what just happened. What was supposed to be such a fun day turned into an awful experience. Avia was nice but the old woman was awful.... read more

I had a Ouidad haircut here in March 2011 with Suzy, who was so fantastic! I've gotten Ouidad haircuts for years whenever I am near a salon with a certified stylist. Suzy's cut was as good as the ones I used to get in New York at the original salon. I loved Suzy's personality too, she was sweet and fun and made me feel good about myself. I've been going to Saffron for almost 10 years. I have always received the best service, whether it be hair or nails. I live in Southern California now but I will typically try to hold off on doing anything to my hair until I come home (Napa). On a handful last minute trips back, they've been able to squeeze me in for an appointment, which is great. Sometimes I had to wait a little while to get in - but once you're in, she does a fantastic job, and I am very picky about my hair (straight, graduated bob.) I also have super-sensitive skin so she customized her hair color services to minimize problems - which I never had while I was with her! read more
