They've permanently closed the freeway there, but they built this beautiful highway bridge on top. You don't ever have to stop on the Hoover Dam, if you don't want to tour. Please be advised that on the end of the road is where you will find the Lookout Gift Shop. Like any other gift shops, they might be pricey, but it helps to maintain and support this place. If you have an extra time to pass by here, please check it out and keep your children tight in your hands, as it is the safest way to go. In the past, you could have accessed this location from the Kingman Wash Access Road off Route 93 on the Arizona side, but since 2001 I believe, the road has been closed to the public. The lookout has a parking lot beside it, along with a covered observation area with tables and chairs, two (pay-to-use) telescopes and two Porta-Potties. The small gift shop at this location carries some refreshments, fun dam souvenirs, and very friendly customer service. There's also additional parking further up the road from the overlook for buses and oversized vehicles.
