Not sure why more reviews have not been posted for this excellent restaurant. Was stunned by the menu and entree selections and the attention to detail the staff in the front of the house exhibit and the back of the house expertise in food preparation. I rarely give a 5 star rating but this was simply one of the best dining experiences I have had while traveling. Excellent place to relax before or after gaming or to come for a romantic dinner for two or a group of good friends. Yes it is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for when eating out you want huge portions for cheap prices... Guess what you get cheap to poor quality food served to you in great big piles. The bartender on duty actually knows how to prepare and shake a drink. At least 30 Seconds of vigorous shaking to mix a drink. Michael was my server and he was wonderful. I highly recommend coming here for an amazing dining experience. It is a bit out of your way but so worth it. read more

We came and ate with our girls and employee for our "Christmas Party" and we were all blown away by the superior service and cuisine! And I have to say the boss made me the best margarita I have ever had!! And dessert was amazing as well!! Thank you for a wonderful night of casino fun!! read more

We chose Sage for an anniversary celebration. We hadn't been there in several years and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. Everyone was compliant with Covid restrictions, from the staff to the guests. We were provided with hand sanitizer when entering and were seated promptly at our reservation time. Socially distanced tables were full. We were greeted by our server, Deb, who took drink orders, explained the menu and drink service. We ordered appetizers, crab cakes for me and gnocchi for him-both generous and delicious. The manager, Shawn, brought our wine selection to our table and offered a little information about the vineyard. Very gracious. We ordered Caesar salads, and that was my only slightly negative comment. The Caesar dressing was on the bland side-no distinct lemon or garlic. Our entrees came; seafood bucatini (spectacular and chock full of mussels, shrimp, and lobster) and walleye St. Thomas served with artichoke hearts, tomatoes, and cilantro-delicious! Our dessert was a blackberry crumble and vanilla bean ice cream that was perfect. We will definitely be back. It was a great dining experience. read more

First I have to say, this is a beautiful place to have dinner. It's easily a 5* atmosphere. Service was great. Our starter (mushroom gnocchi) was to die for. Second to none. The issue is dinner..... My wife had the crab cake dinner ($40+) and it came with 2 cakes that she said tasted like almost every other frozen crab cake she has ever had. I got the half chicken ($30+). The flavors and craftsmanship were there. Unfortunately HALF of my chicken was bloody and inedible. This place is gorgeous. And I love odawa casino. But can't give more than 3*s. Had a great dinner there last night. Thursday night fresh baked Prime Rib 12oz for $19 was fantastic. Be sure to ask for horseradish sauce. Service was pleasant and the best part is smoking is no longer done in Casino so I could breath when going into restaurant. read more

The maitre de was incredible, he even tried to accommodate our reservation an hour prior to our scheduled time, though he was unsuccessful, because of his professionalism and attitude we were glad to wait. Our complaint was that we waited for 2 hours for our Prime Rib dinners (4). Reservation was at 7:45PM 2 of 4 Prime Ribs were served at 9PM, our server determined the other 2 were not prepared to our specifications and would return with them shortly. My mother and I reluctantly ate hours while waiting for the other 2 to arrive. They did not. I sought out our server to cancel the other 2 and bring our bill. I was unable to locate her in the dining room and asked another server to relay the message, she did not. We know because we watched her carry on with non-essential activities. Consequently our server brought the final 2 meals at 9:30pm, in which we shared our request. She was confirmed she was unaware and offered to wrap in which we declined. Not certain where the breakdown in service was and we did not penalize our server despite her excuses. In fact, she removed the 2 meals from our bill which was kind, and we did leave gratuity for the full bill. We left cold, tired, hungry and disappointed. This is a pretty fancy place. The meals that my wife and I got were delicious. I had a porkshop and it was one of the best I've ever had. Huge. Great flight of wines. Great atmosphere. The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere. It's romantic and modern. I enjoyed my table near the front window. The service was polite and friendly. The menu was diverse and the wine selection is robust. I ordered the prime rib de la Oscar with sides and a pot de creme for dessert. They brought bread and whipped butter prior to the meal. It was delicious and flavorful. But when it comes down to it, the rest of the food was just mediocre. I ordered a medium rare and was given a medium well prime rib. It lacked flavor and tenderness. It wasn't good. The au ju was nothing special and the creamy horseradish lacked bite and flavor. The lump crab was tender and flavorful. The potato au gratin needed salt or something. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. The pot de creme was just ok. Nothing special about it. It was a disappointing meal. Not worth what I paid for it. read more

Having a second home in the Petoskey area we are fortunate enough to be exposed to wonderful dining options over the years, this includes a couple of private clubs too. We have been frequent visitor to the Sage since its inception of fine dining and its ever changing dining experience. We have had exceptional food and service but also some hit and miss's too. The servers here have always been above professional. This last year has been interesting with the addition of new front of the house management Sean who is a gracious host bending over backwards to help. Unlike past years of a management hiding from guests. The current Chef has has been very accommodating without an ego or attitude and fantastic to talk too, remember though as a working chef he's hard to get out of the kitchen? His most recent winter menu is fantastic we recently stopped with our group and had a exceptional experience. Duck Crapes, Bruschetta, fantastic Gnocchi, Sage salad interesting? Two Hearted Cheddar Ale soup OMG!! Braised Cod to die for, Cajun salmon cooked perfectly, Shrimp n scallops, Italian Bolognese WOW! Prime rib as always my favorite. Sage has hosted a fine wine tasting on Saturday afternoons for years. We went pretty regularly, until last winter when everything went downhill. New restaurant manager changed the format to a "let me read to you while you drink nothing" format. So, we boycotted for the past year. Two weeks ago, we decided to dive in again -- just to see if the tasting had improved. It definitely has -- if you are friends or family members of the bartender (who is very kind, but won't open additional wines unless you're related somehow). We did get a nice value, decent wines, and Sally stayed out of the tasting for the most part. We visited with another "old regular" and she confirmed the old crowd that came weekly has also terminated their visits to Sage. Given the tasting was improved, and the restaurant was EMPTY at 6 pm, we decided to have dinner at Sage. Went to the front desk and asked the manager for a table. We were told "there's nothing available til 6:15, you'll need to come back". WHAT? We could see at least 20 empty tables. So, we asked if we could eat in the lounge (also 0 customers in there). The answer was "Yes, but the bartender may not have time to serve you". Huh. We took our chances, and Jen the bartender did a super job and the food was excellent, some of the best around. In the hour + we were there, we saw exactly two tables seated. PS try the Tomahawk Porkchop! What a shame. Sage has tremendous food and atmosphere, but the surly reception from the manager soured our experience. The manager is driving your customers away! I hope Sage is around for a long time, we have always loved our visits there in the past. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant in a casino. It has never done well so it is always nearly empty. You have to walk through a smoking permitted casino to access the restaurant although the restaurant is non smoking. The food has always been OK and the service OK. It remains that way. We had a thoroughly mediocre experience the other night. Each time we go we wish they would pull it together!! read more

Our first visit to Sage was memorable. We had a terrific waiter, Steve, who was very knowledgeable about the menu and also very pleasant and efficient. The dining room is lovely and there's no danger of smoke from the Casino area wafting into the dining area. We had fabulous appetizers - house smoked salmon was excellent and the Mussels were some of the largest and most flavorful I've had in ages. Entrees included steak, perfectly cooked (charred on the outside, yet rare on the inside, just as ordered) and a lovely chicken breast with gnocchi. Couldn't resist Steve's recommendation for a dessert to share. Also, it was Wednesday, so any bottle of wine ($50 or less) was half priced. We'll be back. read more

Came back to Sage again 12 months after our last visit. Absolutely fabulous dinner. Waygu filet for my lovely better half and rosemary dusted halibut for me. Most certainly one of the finest meals that we've had in northern Michigan. There are a lot of excellent choices up north. Make sure that Sage is one that you experience. read more

We were very disappointed, the chef refused to substitute sides forcing me to order the scallop and shrimp dish, which was marginal at best. Our server told us 3 other tables the same night complained about the chef's lack of flexability. Additionally, my dining partner's filet of beef was overcooked. The filet was atop a pile of bland mashed potatoes that sat in an orangish pool of goo, cetainly not visually appetizing. When we asked to speak the manager, she did not come to the table, claiming they were understaffed and she could not leave her post or get someone to fill in for her for a couple of minutes. The entire experience was dismal. We will not be back and will post the same review to TripAdvisor so others can be forewarned. We have never written a negative review before so this one should speak volumes. read more

I was visiting in town and saw fantastic reviews for Sage and decided to check it out. Unfortunately this is one place that Yelp let me down. We arrived for dinner and waited for about 10 minutes wondering if anyone would seat us. When we were finally seated we ordered drinks. I ordered a mojito which was basically just vodka with a mint leaf and would be great for a frat party but not for a planned fine dining evening. I started out with the sous vide pork belly which is actually good for the price. I then had the scallops and shrimp which had a nice presentation but it seemed as if they were trying to cover up the flavor of the shrimp and scallops with the butter sauce. The risotto tasted like Mac and cheese. For dessert we had the berries and cream which was nothing remarkable. Also the music being played took away from the ambience. Overall very underwhelmed especially when the bill is 100$, service is slow, drinks poorly made, and food is mediocre at best. read more

One of my favorite fine dinning restaurants in Petoskey. We frequent them and always request Debra. She is simply amazing. The food has never disappointed and I can be hard to please. The mushroom gnocchi is an absolute must. The steaks are always perfection. The wine list is very extensive and the bar does a great job. We took some friends that had never been here before and they left very pleased. Don't let the fact that their in a casino fool you. This place is top notch and you won't be disappointed you gave it a shot. read more

This was an unexpected surprise to say the least; four of us went into what we expected to be a regular dining experience and found that we had walked into a real five star under the tent of a less then average casino. We each ordered different courses, and found everything to be above standard. Our waiter, Casey, was first class in all aspects of his position. Steak, chops and seafood were as good as one will get anywhere. Presentation was excellent. Equal to any four or five star dining experence in Michigan. This is for sure something the Odawa's have researched, developed and then placed into action to better serve the public. this is a real gem. read more

Went here for 18th anniversary dinner. It was a Saturday, so there was a lobester tail/steak special. I ordered the $55 filet/lobster and asked for medium rare filet. My filet came medium well, mostly well, I am talking BURNT around the perimeter. Waitress didn't return to our table for a very long time. Finally when she did, I am talking like 15 or more minutes later she nicely took my steak back, which still had my full portion of potatoes which where just ok but I still wanted and carrots, again underwhelming but hey I wanted because I bought them. My whole plate was taken potates and carrots and steak , I had eaten lobster tail, did not expect that back, however finally get my medium rare steak, which is basically rare now but hey better than a mealy overdone steak filet but only the filet is returned, and even after the waitress states that normally they replate the veg/potates and would I like them back and I state yes especially the potatoes, she only brings me back a plate of the carrotes. Anyway,my special anniversary dinner turned out to be not so special, had it been a regular ole' night I might not feel so let down by this restraunt, however I left upset and not wanting ever to return. read more
