I procrastinated going to the dentist for 12 months because I have never had a pleasant experience at the dentist. I'm sure most everyone really despises going because of the sound, some doctors huge hands stretching your mouth and the overall displeasure of it all. I finally made an appointment with Sage Dental Cumming after receiving multiple flyers in the mail. After examining my teeth, it was clear I needed a deep cleaning and irrigation to get rid of my lack of oral hygiene in my mouth. No bueno! Alyssa was my hygienist and I have never had this experience before. She is a magician. I had no discomfort, no pain and almost didn't even know she was working on my teeth. Muy bueno! I am actually looking forward to my next cleaning there and would recommend anyone to use Sage Cumming location as their dentist. The whole staff was extremely friendly and expedited everything through my insurance very quickly and seamlessly. I never thought I would write a review on my dentist in a million years. absolutely a horrific experience from start to finish. They have no organization they had no communication. They don't take accountability for anything. They messed up my appointments plural that is they show no accountability. They didn't apologize. They screwed up my prescriptions. I mean there wasn't one thing they didn't mess up, I will give them credit for being consist. clearly this location is just about numbers and don't care about people. I would not return to Sage Dental, nor would I recommend them. My experience raised serious concerns about the professionalism, safety, and overall quality of care provided. I paid in full at my first visit for two crowns and additional dental work--one crown on each side of my mouth. It took over three months to complete the treatment. Initially, the office failed to order one of the crowns. At the following appointment, I was told the incorrect shade had been ordered, with no clear timeline for resolution. The temporary crowns repeatedly fell off, even though I was careful not to chew on those areas. When the final crown was placed, it fell off immediately because the technician had improperly prepped the tooth using the wrong cleaning agent, which rendered the cement ineffective. This kind of oversight is completely unacceptable. In addition, despite multiple verbal warnings and having it documented in my chart that I cannot tolerate fluoride due to an inflammatory reaction, a technician applied it without asking or reviewing my medical information. This could have had serious consequences for my health. The environment was also deeply unsettling. At one point, another patient began screaming, using expletives, and accusing staff of ignoring her pain. In response, the office staff turned up the music so loud it felt more like a nightclub than a medical facility. Overall, I found the clinic to be chaotic, careless, and unsafe. I had a very disappointing experience here. I was told I had six cavities and needed multiple deep cleanings, which felt excessive and pushy. I ended up getting a second opinion from a different trusted provider who confirmed that none of those treatments were necessary. The dentist I saw, Dr. Shahpatel, came across as condescending and dismissive of my questions. I wasn't given preventive advice or a proper cleaning before they made their $650+ diagnosis. They also broke everything down into three treatment appointments without me agreeing to anything, which made it feel more like a sales pitch than a medical visit. I've been to several Sage Dental locations. I started at John Creek & had some not-so-good dental work done. After several phone calls, they advised they cover fixing it. Due to the work & issues it caused it's been a year-long process. I opted not to get the work redone at Sage in Johns Creek but to go to other locations. I went to the Buford, GA location & they were nice. The Periodontist decided not to renew their contract & last procedure they performed on me was their last day at the Buford, GA location. I also had to regularly remind the office I was not to be charged & I was being charged for deep cleaning services I didn't need. I decided to get my work completed at the Cummings, GA location. Everyone was nice & very helpful. I was told & given things that I had not at the other 2 locations. For my last cleaning, I was told I was on the wrong cleaning plan & that I didn't need deep cleanings. So the hygienist changed it back to normal cleaning, not deep cleaning. I planned to leave Sage after they fixed the problem they caused but I think I'll stick around & just drive further to go to the Cumming location. read more

While the employees overall were nice, I cannot recommend this dentist office to others as I don't feel they prioritize patient care but rather focus on maximizing their profits. When I checked in, I was told it would be $40 for x-rays, which are covered 100% once per year by my plan. After questioning this, it was clarified that the charge was for a panoramic x-ray, which may be optional. During the checkup, I was informed that I required a 'deep cleaning' which would cost over $500. Over 10 years ago, I had a similar diagnosis from another dentist office, which I disagreed with. Over the years, several dentists have told me that this is a way for some dental chains to make additional money. I requested the basic bi-annual cleaning covered by my insurance, but was told they would not perform it since they deemed I needed the deep cleaning. After deciding not to use their services, I was informed they would waive the $10 office visit fee required by insurance. However, upon reviewing my plan and contacting Aetna, I found that my copay for office visits is $0, suggesting another add-on by the chain. My wife reminded me that three years ago, when we moved to Cumming, she also visited this office and was told she had two cavities. She immediately changed dentists and hasn't been diagnosed with any cavities since, much less the two they identified during her consult. read more

But This Cumming location deserves 5stars across the board hands down. The staff is comforting, knowledgeable and nice. The location clean & sterile. I had an appt today for a general teeth cleaning. They called me 15 minutes before my appt to ask if I could come in early. I told them that I was on my way and would be there in under 10 minutes - still early for my scheduled appointment. When I got there the people at the desk said they sent someone in ahead of me and that I could wait or come back at 2 PM. My appt was for 10:30 AM and I have a medical condition that makes me take antibiotics one hour prior to the appt so I couldn't return later. I waited 50 minutes to see the hygienist. I ask what happened and she said she didn't have control and that it wasn't her fault. She apoligized and was wonderful but it was crappy for the desk to blame her. As a result, I missed my doctor appt that was scheduled for early afternoon. I might be angry until my next 6 month appt! read more

HORRIBLE DENTISTRY. This place is charging extremely high prices for any procedure and services provided by the dentistry. Charged my insurance company $5000 and when my insurance company denied to pay , i had to pay leftover or they would not complete my procedure. Billing office would call me to mention if you want to go ahead with the procedure you have to pay remainder. I was left with no option but to complete the procedure by paying insurance amount. Billing office charged twice for the same procedure and never showed any interest in reverting back extra charges. Billing office treats you like a money machine the moment you step in the office. There is complete lack of professionalism and care for patients. Their entire demeanor and operations reflect complete interest in financial aspect of the relation and disregard for the dentistry as a profession. The dentist was great but I believe that the staff, especially the office mgr., Valencia is so dishonest. I was given a treatment plan because I required 2 crowns. I have dental coverage so my plan covered approximately half so this office claims that I requested an upgrade on my crowns. Who in the hell wants to pay more for dental if your insurance pays for crowns. They present you with the treatment plan and ask you to sign it. They use this as proof that you agreed to the upgrade which is bogus. The treatment plan shows all options up to implants, bridges and other cosmetic choices but yet they aren't trying to get me to pay those. The office staff are prepped to be scammers for this chain of dentist office to gain more money. Please don't let this affect the professionalism of the dentist. My wife, acting on a referral for a root canal re-treatment, visited this office and was examined. After the consultation with the dentist, while at the front office, she was given an estimate of the copay orally. She asked for a treatment plan in writing and a pre-determination of benefits from our dental insurance provider. Office staff provided no treatment plan and failed to contact the insurance provider for a predetermination of benefits. The copay for the procedures seemed unreasonably high and may or may not have included the needed crown. My wife wanted to confirm insurance coverage and procedure details. A month later, because calls to Sage Dental were never returned, we were able to confirm that our insurance provider was not contacted by Sage Dental staff. Time to move on. read more

I have been there 3 or 4 times. 1st and 2nd time we got off to rocky start but I attribute that to I was one of the first patients to walk through the door since they opened. No biggie. The Dentist Dr. Shahpatel is hard for me to say anything about. Only met her once really. Maybe twice. She is quick and to the point which I prefer. I hate my time being wasted when you are on my time. I have good dental hygiene and never a cavity so there is little for us to converse on. But this is why I decided to write this review; My hygenist Alyssa, is awesome! She asks the typical follow-up questions before starting, checks her notes if you have been there before and gets to work. She is kind enough to also not use the power thingy on your sensitive teeth and tells you she is going to skip those and come back to them with a hand tool instead. See? She actually does keep notes on you and good ones at that. I actually would not have known if she skipped a tooth or not, I just zone out and count the dots in the ceiling tiles. Here's another praise for Alyssa, When you ask her questions as naive as they may be, she is happy to give you the answer. Not only does she give the answer though, she explains the answer and gives the how, why, what, when, who. You can really tell she likes her job and enjoys her work. She is the reason I continue to go there. read more

I would have given a higher star rating if I didn't feel like I was being nagged to death over every appointment. For my first and second appointments, I must have been reminded at least 10 times. Two weeks ago, I made an appointment for June 24 for my next service. Today, June 10, I got a reminder for that appointment on June 24. If past experience is anything to go by, I will get several more reminders before the actual appointment. I am an adult, not a child, and I don't appreciate the unrelenting nagging. As for the service, Alyssa did a great job of cleaning my teeth without causing lingering pain. Dr. Shilpatel was very professional and explained clearly what my issues are. However, I felt there was a little too much wait time once I was in the dental chair. My anxiety had way too much time to ramp up and up, and it was all I could do to keep myself from bolting out the door. Anyway, I need some major dental work, so I will be keeping my appointment on the 24th. I'm sure I'll be reminded of it a few dozen times between now and then. read more

JUST HORRIBLE!! from the front desk forgetting me in my car (during Covid) I walked in myself at which point they responded "oh so sorry I forgot to call you". Next the hygienist, at 50 I've had plenty of dental cleanings and never such a painful cleaning. My insurance covers cleanings at 100%. And of course I get a bill from this place. NEVER will I go back there and watch out fir the price changes.... they quote one and still bill you differently. Tried calling to get a hold of someone but no one I speak to can "correct the error". Had mouth guard made, first one didn't fit, they kept telling me it does. I said I have had 2 before this mouth guard, and they never hurt or spread my teeth when put in, and didn't "pop" up when I bit down and released the bite. Made a second one, it fit. They did not balance it and I had TWO more teeth bruised because the guard only touched those two teeth. Cynthia, the Office Manager was rude and would not listen, old office manager was more professional. Linkedin messaged CEO, accepted invite, sent message, never replied, emailed, never replied. Staff called me that he had received email and to call them back. Called them back last week, no return calls. I posted this review, and they posted the reply with an email that doesn't even work. Let me say how totally dissatisfied I am with Sage Dental in Cumming. I made an appointment 2 months ago for 7/2/2021 for my checkup. Get a call today from the "scheduler" that the office is closed on 7/2. I have a hard time believing that they didn't know the office would be closed on 7/2 but yet set my appointment for that day. I am pretty certain the dentist said, "oh, close the office! Cancel all appointments! I am going to the beach!" So the "scheduler " called me and she said the only available appointment was 3, yes, THREE, months out. WTF? Am I annoyed? To say the least. DELTA DENTAL's network includes Sage Dental. Hear me now! The dental care was top notch but the billing has been a nightmare from the start. Despite being a preferred provider, this office has continued to bill me for more than what my insurance company says I should pay (balance billing over the contracted rate). Despite numerous phone calls and 2 letters from me, and a letter from my insurance company, these people will not admit their error. Others have complained about this same matter and if you spend any time in the waiting room you will hear at least one billing dispute. I even filed a complaint with the GA Consumer Affairs division of the Attorney General's office and they also sent them a letter. I have now received 2 notices from a collection agency. I plan to take this matter to court. read more

I had an afternoon appointment scheduled as I always do. I started getting text reminders about my upcoming 7:30 AM appointment (no one spoke to me about rescheduling). Since I'm working from home I figured why not...I'll take care of it early, so I filled out the pre-visit questionnaire and planned on it. Before I arrived traffic was crazy now that more people are out, so I tried calling both numbers I have for Sage's Cumming location to check in on my way. Since it was before 8 I could only leave a voicemail. When I arrived, I went in and she told me the hygienist was sick and there wasn't anyone to take care of my cleaning. But she said they had tried to call me to let me know...is that why I have no missed calls or voicemails from you? Hmm?!? I never have had an issue with insurance and payments, and when I had cleanings, the process seemed smooth. Four stars for that, but the whole issue today docked you 2 1/2 stars. Another half star for your copy/paste answer to the other low star reviews (don't even reply to this review--you should already have called me about this issue). I suggest looking for another practice instead of Sage. I've already changed mine. read more

They did a great job of cleaning my teeth that is why i give them one star. I had a dental emergencywhen i was out of town and asked the dr to call in a prescription for ANTIBIOTICS (not pain meds of ANY kind). She told me it was ILLEGAL for her to call in a prescription for ANTIBIOTICS! REALLY! No it is not! I called my old dentist who i havent seen in a year who HAPPILY CALLED IN MY ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIPTION. He said it was NOT illegal!!!! Apparently someone needs to update her on the fact that it is not illegal to call in an antibiotic prescription! I will NOT be coming back , ever! Thank god I did not develop a serious complication from my infection otherwise it would have turned out very badly from a health standpoint and LEGAL standpoint! read more

When I checked out of the office after my appointment was postponed I was asked to pay $48 which I was told was my portion of the charges. I attempted to be reimbursed through my HRA but they denied the claim. The claim submitted to my insurance by Sage Dental was paid in full by insurance. There was no indication on the claim form that any further charges were owed. On top of the already all around bad experience with Sage Dental they now owe me $48. They either don't know how to submit a claim form or the overcharged $48 for their services. read more

I went to Sage in Cumming after my insurance changed and I needed one with coverage. My previous dentist informed me 2 months earlier that I needed to have 3 fillings. By comparisons with my previous dentist, the Sage facilities looked very much out of date and dirty. I informed the staff at sage of my current condition and they took x-rays. While waiting for those, I was offered a cleaning - I declined since I had one 3 months earlier. They then suggested a gum analysis, I declined since I had that 3 months earlier. They then suggested a oral cancer screening, I declined. Then dentist came in and told me that I needed 2 root canals and 3 crowns. I told her that I was just diagnosed by my previous dentist and he said I only need 3 fillings - she then told me I should just go ahead and pull the teeth. I declined this as well. She then left abruptly with me sitting in the chair. 20 minutes passed with no one checking in on me, so I got up and started to leave. I was met at the door with an insurance analysis, I told them I didn't need to see that because there was no way I'd do the work they suggested, and if it was truly needed, I'd have it done elsewhere. Since then I've gone to NorthBridge Dental -- they determined I needed 3 fillings (no root canals, no crowns) - they did great work. Your mile may vary, but it is my impression that they were all about upselling - providing services that weren't needed. read more
