I spoke with Mare, who's amazing by the way, and she suggested I try Ashiatu massage. I had never heard the term before. "Ashi" means foot. Therefore, it's a barefoot massage that involves using bare feet to apply strokes, assisted stretching the muscles. It's freaking awesome. I'm totally weirded out by feet, but I needed this. It the room looks all BDSMish, but it's totally not. She uses drilled poles to steady herself. I was so apprehensive but excited at the same time. Mare's sweet disposition put me at ease. I really valued my experience because I didn't think about her bare feet. I was relieved and listened to the flute and waves. If you're open and want to try a different type of massage, then this is a viable option. Did I mention they take FSA/HSA, too? Check of their list if serves. Not only did it look like I had gotten obvious filler, it appeared lumpy and top heavy, overflowing from the lip line. I was too embarrassed to go out for weeks; when she agreed that the filler had finally settled and didn't look good, she dissolved it. No refund for the $750+ spent on a syringe, just dissolving of the overfilled lips. This was the first time I ever had to get filler dissolved and I feel like it's negatively affected the skin around my lips, but she pushed those concerns to the side. I just can't believe I wasn't offered a refund or anything when I paid for a service gone horribly wrong that affected my appearance this badly. I've spent thousands of dollars at OVME and have been a longtime member, but I reconsidered all that given this experience and lack of resolution/refund.

I was assured that my skin tone, hair texture, and ethnicity would not be an issue and was even told that my dark hair should respond well to the treatment. After completing six sessions, I saw little to no noticeable reduction in hair growth. Throughout the process, it became increasingly apparent that treating women with my skin tone and hair type was not something this business had significant experience with. Despite following the recommended treatment plan and attending multiple appointments, I did not receive the results I was promised. Because I was not seeing any improvement, I canceled my final two appointments. When I called, the receptionist apologized and stated that a manager would contact me. The manager did reach out, apologized for my experience, and told me she would speak with the laser technician to review my progress and treatment history. Unfortunately, after that conversation, I never heard back. There was no follow-up, no explanation, no concern for the lack of results, and no effort to address my experience. What disappointed me most was not only the lack of results, but the lack of customer care. Once my concerns were raised, communication completely stopped. It left me feeling as though the focus was on collecting payments rather than ensuring clients achieve successful outcomes. Based on my personal experience, I would encourage women of color, particularly African-American women with coarse hair, to thoroughly research a provider's experience treating diverse skin tones and hair types before committing to a treatment package.
