This is the foxtail they pulled out between my dog's toes. Thank you, Dr. Jain!
    Elena C.

SAGE has been our go-to place for years for emergencies and when our regular vet is out of their comfort zone. During this last visit, I was fortunate enough to get the best doctor ever, Dr. LeeAnne Jain. After two failed (and traumatic) attempts to remove a foxtail from our dog's foot and an infection that just wouldn't stop, our vet recommended we go to SAGE since they have better imaging equipment and because my dog might require surgical removal. I immediately drove over to SAGE. After waiting about three hours, we were finally seen by Dr. Jain, the kindest and most caring vet ever. After a visual inspection and a quick ultrasound, she was convinced that she had located the culprit and could get it out under light sedation via a small incision. And indeed, she was able to get the foxtail out. Now, after about a week of meds, the wound is pretty much gone, and the only evidence of any procedures is a slight bump and shaved paw where the incision was made. I'm so thankful to Dr. Jain and Nurses Janette and Blue for their empathy and for taking such good care of Oakley. You are the best!

We are so grateful to SAGE Veterinary Centers - Campbell for the incredible care they gave our dog, Cypress. He underwent a major surgery, and the surgical team was absolutely amazing--skilled, compassionate, and so reassuring throughout the entire process. Everyone took the time to answer our questions and made a very stressful experience feel manageable. We truly felt like Cypress was in the best hands. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of him.

Last week, I had to bring my wiener dog in for an emergency. Just a few days after his annual dental cleaning, one of his eyes became swollen. Within a matter of hours, it got so bad that I had no choice but to rush him to the emergency vet. When you call an emergency hospital and they tell you to come right away, you'd expect to be seen promptly--not to sit in the waiting room for another 4-6 hours. This, in my opinion, is one of the biggest flaws with emergency vet hospitals. They likely know if you're still hours away from being seen, but they tell you to come immediately regardless. In my case, I had to watch my dog's face continue to swell and even bleed for another five hours before, near midnight, I pushed for him to be seen. I even called two other hospitals in hopes of finding faster care. He was eventually prescribed medication for cellulitis of the eye tissue. While it's still unclear exactly how or why it developed, his condition has improved dramatically over the last few days and is now almost back to normal. Waiting for hours at an emergency vet is frustrating enough, but watching your pet suffer needlessly during that time makes the experience far worse.

My dog after tx, super happy.

This review is specifically for the oncology department at SAGE Campbell. My experience with Dr. Kiselowe and team was amazing. They treated my dog with so much love and care. He was always happy to go to his appointments and was happy when I picked him up after treatment. I trusted the vet's expertise and appreciated his kind manner with my dog and with me. This team made my dog's last few years wonderful and I'm so grateful we opted for treatment with them. As for reviews of the ER dept., yes it's always a long wait when going in for emergencies. But the ER doctor I met with was honest and professional.

Our dog was suddenly losing his balance, but was still able to walk fairly well. We rushed him to Sage ER (recommended by our vet since they have neurologists here if needed). We waited in the lobby and were seen 4 hours later. From the time we arrived to the time we were seen, he basically lost all mobility in his back legs and was declining sharply. The ER vet stated that they couldn't do anything and to bring him back on Monday since they don't have a neurologist in until Monday (and we still may not even be seen). We went home and basically broke down because we didn't how to help our dog and he couldn't go to the bathroom at all. We ended up finding UCD hospital which was open on weekends. Thankfully, we showed up and they admitted us. They stated that the chances of my dog walking again would've dropped from 90% to 50% if we waited until Monday since he declined so quickly and was bordering stage 5 IVDD (in just one day). It's shocking how few neuro vets there are staffed in the Bay Area. I was shocked to learn that it's rare to have a fully staffed neurologist and appointments can take weeks and months since it's such a time sensitive condition. I'm also disappointed that the ER vet at Sage didn't urgently tell me how critical my dog's condition was and tell me what my options were outside of Sage. Overall though, I highly have to praise the receptionist staff and the nurses/vets that do the intake and advice. They're all so incredibly sweet and helpful. Huge huge shoutout to Kendra for reassuring me everything will be ok and providing comfort when I was so lost and had a mental breakdown. I cannot thank her enough for showing me compassion during this extremely traumatic time. Sage is so incredibly lucky to have her.

The wait can be long. We checked in around 8:30pm on Sunday and were seen around 3:00 am. But, I'm so grateful to have an emergency vet open 24/7 that's close by. We were concerned that our Pomeranian was dehydrated. After assessing him, he got fluids, antibiotics and we had his bloodwork done. The results of the bloodwork revealed some info about a lack of Albumin so we'll be doing an ultrasound through our primary vet to learn more. So glad we are now armed with info the figure out what the root cause of our pup's discomfort could be.

Saying goodbye to his lifelong friend--thank you Sage for making this sad time manageable and safe

Our most recent visit our cat got a sticky (glue) fly trap stuck to him, which may seem like a silly thing to bring a cat to emergency for... but the level of freaked out that he was, we were having difficulty handling him, and he was bleeding and we couldn't determine from where. I called to ask for advice on how to handle the situation, which they gladly gave. The person at the front desk even called me back after she talked to a technician and had additional information for me! We ended up taking him in, as we just couldn't get things under control on our own and he was clearly in a lot of pain. A technician took him back to assess him quickly, got him cleaned up, located the source of the bleeding and cleaned his wounds. And of course he was an angel for her... (why can't he be like that for me?!?!). Once again, everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, and efficient. They never minimize what you're dealing with... if they thought it was silly reason to be there, they sure didn't make it seem that way to me. They took our concerns seriously and were very supportive, and took excellent care of our cat. The other thing I really appreciate with the team here is that they aren't trying to add on or charge for unnecessary services. Costs are explained clearly and feel very fair. I haven't once felt like they were taking advantage of the emergency nature of a situation. Again... really good people here.

There was minimal wait time and everyone from the front desk through to the vet (Dr Guevara) was incredibly helpful and kind. We brought our ten year old cat (Reina) in for recurring upper respiratory, lethargy, and lack of eating after we were unable to get a vet appointment at our primary vet for at least 4 days. Dr Guevara was incredibly thorough going through Reina's history, listened to our concerns, and even made suggestions and courses of action for potential underlying causes of other health issues that were not related to our primary concern. I honestly felt more listened to and understood by Dr Guevara than our primary vet - and my husband felt the same way. After the appointment the tech walked me through a very thorough summary of our appointment, the medications prescribed, and methodology for administering. Was also really impressed by this because we usually get shoved out the door at this stage at other emergency clinics. Will definitely return in the future when/if emergency consults are required.

Both vets said that there is no such thing. One of the vets even called Maple a "difficult dog" and said that the only way to have her "behave" is to take her to a board and train program. It was only after meeting with one of the top dog trainers in the Bay Area that I understood how ridiculous those claims were. The trainer scoffed at what they said and sent me to a vet she recommends who was shocked to hear what the vets at Happy Valley had said. Turns out that there are ample medications (SSRIs, etc) that can very significantly help with your pet's anxiety other than sedatives. I'm very disappointed with the vets at Happy Valley hospital. Because of them, Maple had to go through her adjustment to her new home not medicated properly. Her anxiety was through the roof and I had to spend hundreds of dollars on trainers and books trying to find a solution to her anxiety when in reality there are myriads of medications that could help Maple calm down.

My senior dog has Cushing's, diagnosed at Kirkwood, and was on a daily medicine for 53mg that they prescribed through a particular pharmacy for a couple years. It was costing me over $200 for EACH prescription, so when I found out that Chewy offered the same medicine at half the price, I tried to switch to Chewy. Kirkwood was very difficult about me switching pharmacies and when they found out that Chewy only offered the medicine at 50mg, not 53mg, they cancelled their previous approval of presciption with Chewy BEFORE letting me know. I heard from Chewy first before I head from Kirkwood. Ironically, this meant that my dog was longer without her meds than if they had just approved it in the first place! When I asked if the 3mg made that big of a difference, and I reminded them that my dog had lost a significant amount of weight since first being on the presciption, so could they not recalculate the prescription using her new weight, because wouldn't that make a difference for those 3mg? They told me they would need to run all the tests on my dog again to make sure she could be at that prescription level (which are hundreds of dollars) and had been done at her last check-up a couple of months earlier (which was also after her weight loss), BEFORE they would allow the switch to 50mg, which would basically force me to order from their preferred pharmacy again. I explained that I had lost my job and was on a budget and needed to cut costs, but they were not helpful at all. I got a second opinion from a friend who is a vet outside the area (hence why we don't see him typically) and he told me that while vets don't love Chewy, he could understand wanting to switch for economic reasons and that 3mg wouldn't matter, especially since a) Cushings is not as serious as other diseases and b) since she had lost weight, that definitely could be taken into account. We switched to Reed Animal Hospital, which works directly with Chewy and handled the subscription themselves and was fine with me doing 50mg given the lose of weight and her levels being fine at her last physical. After a few weeks on the new 50mg of meds, we checked her ACTH levels again and she was, indeed fine. Dr. Hu's bedside manner with families is horrible and I felt like their business with a particular pharmacy trumped my dog's care and my financial issues. I no longer recommend them.

Without an appointment, the fee increases to $200, a difference that was not reasonably explained. To avoid any misunderstanding, I clearly stated my willingness to proceed with treatment and to pay an additional substantial amount if required. Despite this, treatment was not initiated. In my view, refusing to provide care to an animal under these circumstances -- particularly when questions relate to billing or package terms -- is concerning and falls short of the professional standard one would expect from a veterinary clinic. I need to share serious concerns about the visit my dogs, Picasso and Mia, had at this clinic…read more Picasso has not been the same since his vaccination. He screamed from the back room during the injection, which was extremely distressing. After the visit, he was unable to walk properly for nearly three days. He's had nightly diarrhea -- three episodes on Sunday and two last night. His stool is loose, he has very low energy, and this is completely unlike him. Picasso is normally a happy, active dog. We received no full disclosure about possible side effects, risks, or any post-care instructions. This vaccination appears to have been too strong for him. Mia is 12 years old, and the vet barely performed a proper annual exam. There seemed to be far more emphasis on dental cleaning than on a thorough senior check-up. The assistant came in with a list of dental-related prep procedures -- including urine testing. I specifically asked whether her age required a more complete physical exam first. I agreed to a blood test but declined the urine sample. When I asked about the urine procedure and learned it required a needle through the abdomen, I declined again. The assistant confirmed they would not collect a urine sample. Mia was taken to the back for vaccination, and when they returned, the assistant was holding a tube of Mia's urine. She said, "Oops, I forgot you said no urine, but I already got it -- do you want me to discard it?" I was shocked. At that point, I allowed the charge since the sample was already taken, but this should never have happened. After she went back to the office, I could clearly hear her celebrating with the doctor -- laughing about what had just happened. This was incredibly unprofessional and upsetting. Overall Experience: The exam itself felt rushed and superficial. The doctor barely touched either dog, and even asked me to lift their lips for the dental check. We have had pets for many years, and this is the worst veterinary experience we've ever had at a clinic we used to trust. It genuinely feels like something has changed -- possibly ownership or management -- because the quality of care is noticeably different. At this point, we need to cancel all future appointments. Picasso needs immediate care from another clinic because he is not doing well.
