I came to MedVet on a Saturday evening when my 23‑year‑old cat suddenly took a sharp decline. She had been here once before over a year ago, but the care that helped her live another 14 months came from her regular veterinarian- not MedVet. Still, I remembered this place being kind, so when things became urgent, this is where I went. The lobby was clean and quiet, and the staff made a good first impression; friendly, professional, and gentle in their approach. There's also a computer screen in the lobby that shows your pet's place in line based on priority, which really helps you understand where you stand. Just keep in mind that if your pet isn't Priority 1 or 2, the wait can be long. I arrived around 5:45 p.m., and because true emergencies kept coming in, we weren't taken in until about 8:30 or close to 9. It was difficult watching the time stretch, but I understood that the pets being rushed in needed immediate care. Even with the long wait, every interaction I had was kind and respectful. When we were finally brought back, the vet walked me through everything with clarity and empathy. They didn't rush me or make me feel like just another case. When it became clear that letting her go was the most humane choice, they handled the entire process with so much dignity and compassion. Dr. Zara Thompson helped Cleo pass peacefully, and I'm deeply grateful for the care she showed both of us in that moment. A few days later, I received a handwritten condolence card in the mail. It was a small gesture, but one that meant a lot during a painful time. MedVet may have long waits when emergencies come in, but the compassion is real. They helped my girl pass gently, and I'll always appreciate the kindness they showed on such a difficult night.

We had another incredibly AMAZING visit here at MedVet Silicon Valley! I called ahead to speak to a staff member to determine if we should bring our pup in or not. Based on her symptoms, it was determined that she should be brought it. (NOTE: ALWAYS CALL AHEAD. Speak to a staff member. Give them your info & they'll check you in OVER THE PHONE, so all you have to do once you arrive is just let them know you're there!) The Dr was amazing & did *not* push unnecessary procedures & was very honest that she did not believe she needed them. However, still let us know that if we wanted peace of mind, we had options. (THIS IS HUGE! Many vets will push unnecessary treatments. This DOES NOT HAPPEN HERE! The dr's are HONEST & SO thorough! ) It is a 24/7 *emergency* vet clinic hospital. Just like our human ER's, patients are triaged & then seen in the order of gravity making every effort to get to everyone as quickly & as safely as possible. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO WAIT. (Keep your expectations realistic, and have empathy for those who have serious, life-threatening injuries or conditions. ) (We spend 8hrs @Kaiser ER & don't bat an eye. But wait an hour to be seen & some people become impatient. This is unrealistic. ) The staff are making EVERY effort to get you & your pet in/out as efficiently as possibly. Because this IS an ER for pups, your exam fee is going to be more than you would normally pay at your family vet. (This is true for us humans too.) However, I think their exam fee of $220 is ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY & WE WILL CONTINUE TO PAY THIS WHEN OUE PUP NEEDS AFTER-HOURS CARE! This is an absolutely AMAZING ER vet! The staff are SO friendly too! They're there to help you & your pup! This is our go-to ER vet!

    Purry

I never leave reviews, but this one truly felt necessary. On New Year's Eve 2025, our beloved kitty of more than 15 years, Purry, crossed the rainbow bridge. From the moment I walked into MedVet, we were met with nothing but professionalism and compassion. Purry was taken back immediately and treated right away. Every single person we encountered, from the front desk to the doctors and staff, was kind, and incredibly sympathetic to our family during the hardest moment. They allowed us to be with Purry while he was being treated, which meant everything to us. It gave us the chance to say goodbye, and I will forever be grateful for that final moment, his last little "meow" as he stood on his front paws while I told him it was okay to go, that we loved him, and the chance to leave his favorite toy with him (a scent of home/love), his red fishy. After Purry passed, MedVet provided a private, comfortable room so we could take our time and say our goodbyes. When we were ready to say goodbye for the last time, we asked if Purry could keep his beloved red fishy. We were told the crematory would likely discard it, but it still felt right knowing he had it with him at the end. Throughout the entire experience, MedVet was professional, caring, and respectful, exactly what anyone would hope for during such a painful time. Just a week after his passing, I received a condolence card in the mail. It was so beautifully written and showed how much MedVet cares. I don't remember everyone's name that night, but I want to thank Michelle, Dr. Wang, Mia, the night shift doctor, another staff member who was very pregnant (I wish I remembered their names), and thank you to all the people working behind the scenes whom we never met. If you ever need emergency care, MedVet on Santa Teresa is truly the place to go. They treat both you and your pet with kindness, dignity, and professionalism. Exactly one month later, on 2/1/26, I received a call from MedVet asking if we wanted Purry's red fishy back. I never expected they would still have it after being told it would likely be thrown away. That call was such a blessing, bittersweet, but incredibly thoughtful. Purry adored those red fishies. Every year Santa brought him a new one, and he would lick them until they practically disappeared. That red fishy is now home, resting with his collar and his other cherished items. It's a small thing, but it speaks volumes about the care and compassion MedVet shows, not just for animals, but for the families who love them.

    Bella June 2025
    Julia M.

I don't know where to begin with this review. Back in June, our sweet 14 year old Bella became gravely ill. In the months prior, she lost a lot of weight, we thought this was just due to her older age. However one day she stopped eating, drinking and was isolating herself. We feared the worst and decided to find an emergency vet for her to be seen as soon as possible. From experiences in the past, when older pets get suddenly sick, some vet hospitals go right to the path of euthanasia without finding a cause, they give up too easy.. This wasn't the case with Med Vet. After a quick assessment it was clear she needed immediate ICU care. From this visit, we learned that Bella has thyroid disease, as well as some other issues that arise with old age cats. After meeting with the doctors that treated her, we can up with an excellent medical plan. All was well up until a couple weeks ago when Bella began vomiting, we once again rushed her to MedVet where she was seen and admitted to ICU for 3 days. For her entire stay, she was treated very well by all staff. They did everything in their power to ensure she was in good hands, they even kept us up to date with the status of her condition every morning she was there. They encouraged us to come visit her whenever we wanted 24/7 and were patient every time we stopped by. By some miracle (and AMAZING medical care) she was discharged and has made a full recovery. She has gained her weight and muscle mass back, she's stronger than she has been in years.  We are so grateful to the entire MedVet team, especially Dr. Brassard. Her expertise and compassion made all the difference in Bella's recovery. Bella is now thriving, and we're hopeful for many more years with her. We also want to sincerely thank Dr. Thompson, Dr. Reich, and Dr. Good, along with the ICU nurses for your dedication and for never giving up on our sweet girl MedVet provides exceptional care,  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone in need.

    Snow the Jack Russel Terrier!
    Clarence Z.

Snow was admitted to MedVet from our Primary Vet after we got news of her condition. She was with them for over half a week and the staff did so well with keeping me updated every single day! Dr. Reich and Dr. Brassard provided me with everything I needed to know and were extremely professional with their word. The doctors and vet techs were all so friendly and showed so much compassion for us. Exactly what you would want when your fur baby is in the ICU! The vet techs I've had the pleasure of working with were all so helpful and knowledgable. All my visitations while she had her stay felt so comforting. I also wanted to express how nice it is to see everyone happy to see Snow when we visit! They love her there so much and say she reminds them of Wishbone. We are still going in for rechecks almost weekly, but whenever I have a question or concern, no matter the time of day, someone is always able to help us! I'm so grateful for everyone there because I can still wake up knowing my Snow is still by my side. I'm still praying and hoping for the best in the coming years with her.

This is how they say "we walked and clean your dog"

Two weeks ago, my dog suddenly got very sick. She vomited with blood in the morning, then again in the evening. We rushed her to the ER vet. They ran bloodwork and pressured us to do X-rays. All looked "normal" except one blood marker was significantly elevated -- but they ignored it. They gave her sedation (for X-rays), anti-nausea injections, and sent us home with a bill of about $2,000. Over the next few days, she got worse: refusing food, severe diarrhea every 20-30 minutes, losing 2-2.5 kg, eventually almost unable to stand, super lethargic. We brought her back to the same ER. They admitted they didn't know what was wrong, gave her another anti-nausea shot even though she wasn't vomiting, then pushed us toward an ultrasound. And they pushed us to do it immediately. Again - pressure from them, talked about how it could be serious. After it came back "normal," they aggressively pressured us to pay for a very expensive Addison's disease test. We declined. We also asked for just 1 anti-nausea pill, but later discovered they billed us for 3 (the same cost as an injection). Before this, the doctor whom I have spoken to were really rude and forced me to do injections without any justification. Just because 'I think we need to do it'. When I asked why and refused, she acted unprofessionally and aggressive. When we picked her up after they kept her from 8 AM to 5 PM, we were horrified: She had not been given water all day, despite having nonstop diarrhea and dehydration. When we gave her water, she drank an entire bottle instantly. She was covered in feces, clearly left in her kennel without being taken outside. The final bill was higher than what they originally quoted, with extra items added. In total, we paid ~$4,000. That same day, desperate, I called another clinic. The vet there immediately said parasites were the most likely cause and asked us to bring a stool sample. He checked it under the microscope on the spot -- parasites confirmed. He prescribed antibiotics, probiotics, and GI food. Total cost: $42. Within one day, my dog started improving. Within three days, she was back to her normal self, regaining weight and energy. So now: The ER clinic charged us over $4k, ignored the obvious parasite indicators in the initial bloodwork, denied her water while hospitalized, kept her in unsanitary conditions, and forced us for unnecessary and expensive tests. Another clinic solved the problem in 15 minutes for $42.

I was a little scared to come to MedVet, just because of the reviews it has but, I'm glad they are open 24/7 & they were able to help my dog broken leg , they put a cast and X-rays and saw everything was okay for him to go home , The receptionist was super nice and explain the aftercare at home.. overall happy with the experience .

Over the years, I think the practice got bigger and they expanded to the Winchester location. Now anytime we come to this location or the Winchester one, we never see Dr. Solomon and it's always another vet or a tech. There's too many different people at the front desk, so no one really knows what's going on. They definitely upcharge for medication so I would recommend getting it elsewhere (there are lots of online services for that). They also upcharge for vaccinations. We like to use VIP petcare for vaccinations, there are multiple locations in the area and the cost is like a third of what Archvet charges. When our dog had a life threatening infection last year, we rushed her to Archvet and was told she needed surgery in the next 24 hours, otherwise she would need to be put down. They quoted us $12,000 for the surgery. I was flabbergasted they would try to take advantage of an emotionally sensitive time and I wouldn't be surprised if they did this to every client. I scrambled and did research, found Warm Springs Vet in Milpitas, who did the surgery for $4000 instead. Crazy, right? The latest issue was submitting a fecal sample over 2 weeks ago and not hearing back. I had to call and all of a sudden, we finally get an email with the results. They've let me down in big and small ways over the last few years. Unfortunately, we can no longer trust them to take good care of our pets and provide reasonable prices.

Initially, I was given a clear treatment plan by the first veterinarian I saw. However, during a follow-up visit, additional services and procedures were introduced that were not part of that original plan, without clear communication or justification. More concerning, Shiloh was prescribed a probiotic that was intended for dogs, not cats. After administering the medication, she became extremely ill. This was not only distressing, but completely avoidable and raises serious concerns about attention to detail and patient safety. In addition to the medical issues, I experienced repeated difficulties with front desk staff, who were unprofessional and dismissive. When I escalated my concerns to management, instead of addressing the situation, I was abruptly dismissed as a client. At that point, I had already paid for diagnostic testing, yet no follow-up, explanation of results, or continuity of care was provided. As a result, I was forced to seek care elsewhere and pay additional expenses, while also dealing with the stress of my pet's declining condition. Instead, I left feeling frustrated, dismissed, and significantly poorer with no meaningful diagnosis and no confidence in the care being provided. Over the course of multiple visits, my cat was prescribed medication after medication, underwent testing, and was continually encouraged toward additional diagnostics. What was consistently missing was a clear explanation of what the suspected problem actually was, why certain recommendations were being made, and what the overall plan was moving forward. Every visit seemed to come with another charge, but not more clarity. The communication was by far the most disappointing part of this experience. Not once did anyone proactively call to check on my cat, follow up on how treatment was working, or ask whether symptoms had improved. Every update required me to reach out first. As a worried owner watching my cat continue to struggle, I felt like I was doing all of the care coordination myself. The front desk staff were often dismissive and surprisingly uninformed. What really highlighted the difference was calling another cat hospital for a second opinion. Within minutes, the staff member I spoke with was knowledgeable about the medications my cat had been prescribed, understood the concerns I was describing, and provided more helpful information than I received throughout much of my experience here. I understand that veterinary medicine doesn't always provide immediate answers. I understand that some cases are complicated. What I don't understand is the lack of communication, transparency, and follow-through. At no point did I feel like there was a clear plan of care or genuine urgency to figure out why my cat was still suffering. My cat is not just another patient. She is family. Unfortunately, throughout this experience, it often felt like she was being treated as just another appointment on the schedule rather than an animal someone loves deeply and is desperately trying to help. My frustration isn't that there weren't immediate answers. My frustration is that I never felt like anyone was as invested in finding those answers as I was. I have transferred my cat's care elsewhere and would not recommend this hospital based on my experience.

Regina at the front desk told me there was no availability -- not even as an emergency -- and suggested we "go to an emergency vet." There was no compassion, no sympathy, and no effort to help, even though Dr. Scott was on duty. After nearly two decades of loyalty and tens of thousands of dollars spent at this clinic, I expected at least a measure of care or understanding in such a heartbreaking moment. Instead, I was made to feel like a number, not a long-time client facing the loss of a beloved family member. Evergreen's veterinarians and techs are wonderful, but the cold, impersonal nature of the front office is deeply disappointing. If you can overlook that lack of warmth, your pets will be in excellent medical hands. But compassion should extend beyond the exam room -- and sadly, that's where Evergreen falls short.

Unfortunately, my last visit here on 1/13/26 jeopardized the safety of my pets resulting in wrong treatments and procedures. I was notified by the practice manager; not the doctor; the next day, despite the fact that there were several encounters with the staff the day before. The staff failed in patient identification. If you continue to bring your pets to this location PLEASE be an advocate for the safety of your pets. Proper reports have already been filed.

We didn't realize there were aggressive neighborhood cats until a tom cat got into a fight with Iris and ran off as soon as we stepped outside. I know this is our fault for letting her out, but I am severely disappointed in how her care was handled at Banfield. Iris had redness on her bottom from what I assume was attempted forced copulation and was squinting her left eye. My normal vet didn't pick up, so I called Banfield on Capital. I brought her in the day after the fight (Nov 1) and explicitly told them she had been in a fight and to inspect for injuries. They took her for a drop-off appointment, deemed her aggressive, sent her home with gabapentin, and scheduled a follow-up 3 weeks out. She was a 7 lb cat who had just been in a fight and needed someone to give her thorough, objective attention and a careful examination. Three weeks later (Nov 22), Iris was eating and moving more, an improvement from right after the fight. I had observed a scratch on her cheek after fur fell off (why did the vet miss this?) and tufts of fur falling off from what looked like scabs. I mentioned this to the receptionist. They cleared her for vaccinations even though she had lost more than 10% of her body weight in less than a month and didn't take her temperature. No one verbally communicated any of this to me. They sent us home and said she only growled a little... Four days later, the day before Thanksgiving, a huge piece of fur fell off Iris's hip. I now believe this was a cat bite the previous vets at Capital Banfield had missed. Capital Banfield had no openings until Sunday even when I explained what happened, so I scheduled an earlier appointment at Almaden Banfield. The Capital Banfield receptionist did not advise me to go to an emergency vet despite me telling them about the newly revealed wound and vomiting. She instead tried to schedule me for an appointment in two days. My poor sweet Iris passed away alone waiting for care at Almaden Banfield on 11/29 (went here for an earlier appointment). She had just seen a Capital vet on 11/22 who gave no indication I should be worried. I wish I had picked a different vet clinic -- one that does thorough exams, that doesn't dismiss every difficult pet as AGGRESSIVE even though she was JUST in a cat fight and ONLY 7 pounds. They didn't find the scratch on her cheek. They FAILED to find a devastating cat bite that I believe caused the infection that took her from us. I didn't notice the bite either until her fur fell off, but I didn't train for this or get paid for this. I would have stayed home if I thought I could do better. I trusted them. And now our family is grieving the loss of a fur baby for the first time right after Thanksgiving, a time meant to be filled with cheer and love and warmth. I am NEVER trusting Banfield again. They might be fine for standard preventative care, but for anything requiring thorough, objective care, take your pet somewhere else. It will be one of the biggest regrets of my life trusting the vets here. I get the impression they are all about stacking appointments and profit and care takes the backseat. They tell you to drop off your pet probably to allow for flexibility in when/who sees your pet even though there seems to be gaps in communication, concerns, and coverage.

This is an emergency room. When was the last time you went to a human emergency room and didn't have to wait more than two hours? The only cases that don't have to wait two hours come by ambulance. This place is utterly amazing. The staff is super professional. They take care of everybody wonderfully and yes, just like all medical whether animal or human, they are desperately understaffed. Let's give a big shout out to these amazing caring professionals Dr. Macy Dr. Akol, Dr. nicki Dr. Lahue, Dr. Kalff Dr Pressel all the doctors I forgot and the best nurses in the entire world. I've been coming here for over 30 years and only receive the best, most attentive, kindest and gracious of care. Folks need to understand how long things take and what the word triage means. I am disgusted reading one star reviews from people with no concept of how much time good thorough animal care takes and how much things cost. An estimate is an estimate they have only ever charged me for what was needed. They are utter professionals, a very highly regarded facility and quite frankly all you people that are sending in one star reviews don't deserve their service or care. Leon loves Pacific & Santa Cruz Vet so much!!!!

I am a seasoned dog owner who has spent many hours and has had many visits to the ER over the years. However this last visit was brutal. We arrived at 830 am and didn't get fully seen and discharged for 12 hours ! 12 hours is insane to make someone with a sick animal wait. At least be up front on check in and say. You are likely looking at 5-6 hour wait. At least that way you can make a call and decide to not put your already sick animal through more stress. I get how triage works. Most pressing cases are seen first. But to have us come back into the exam room several times just to sit and wait for at least an hour or more each time is wild. The tech calls me and ask me if I've left and I say no I'm right outside and by the time I've come in they have forgotten about us and stick us in an exam room only to sit and wait another chunk of time. The vet was lovely and she helped diagnose my dog and set up a treatment plan. That was the only plus.
