I came to MedVet on a Saturday evening when my 23‑year‑old cat suddenly took a sharp decline. She had been here once before over a year ago, but the care that helped her live another 14 months came from her regular veterinarian- not MedVet. Still, I remembered this place being kind, so when things became urgent, this is where I went. The lobby was clean and quiet, and the staff made a good first impression; friendly, professional, and gentle in their approach. There's also a computer screen in the lobby that shows your pet's place in line based on priority, which really helps you understand where you stand. Just keep in mind that if your pet isn't Priority 1 or 2, the wait can be long. I arrived around 5:45 p.m., and because true emergencies kept coming in, we weren't taken in until about 8:30 or close to 9. It was difficult watching the time stretch, but I understood that the pets being rushed in needed immediate care. Even with the long wait, every interaction I had was kind and respectful. When we were finally brought back, the vet walked me through everything with clarity and empathy. They didn't rush me or make me feel like just another case. When it became clear that letting her go was the most humane choice, they handled the entire process with so much dignity and compassion. Dr. Zara Thompson helped Cleo pass peacefully, and I'm deeply grateful for the care she showed both of us in that moment. A few days later, I received a handwritten condolence card in the mail. It was a small gesture, but one that meant a lot during a painful time. MedVet may have long waits when emergencies come in, but the compassion is real. They helped my girl pass gently, and I'll always appreciate the kindness they showed on such a difficult night.

In the very early hours of 2/19 our German Shepherd Hopper tragically passed while we were out of town. My father and brother who were caring for him brought him to MedVet around 4AM. I cannot begin to explain the amount of empathy and care their team gave to my entire family in this process. Since our baby was 100+ pounds it was hard for my elderly father to help carry him. In response to this their team was waiting for Hopper with a gurney and took over to make the whole process somewhat easier on us. Even being away, they let me do some of the paperwork over the phone so our family did not have to be there longer than they needed to be. My father told me about how exceptional their crew was that night and how much compassion they had for Hopper and our family. If you were working the day of 2/19 around 4AM, your kindness truly touched us and made us feel safe leaving our baby in your hands. I can't begin to thank you enough from the bottom of my heart.

We had another incredibly AMAZING visit here at MedVet Silicon Valley! I called ahead to speak to a staff member to determine if we should bring our pup in or not. Based on her symptoms, it was determined that she should be brought it. (NOTE: ALWAYS CALL AHEAD. Speak to a staff member. Give them your info & they'll check you in OVER THE PHONE, so all you have to do once you arrive is just let them know you're there!) The Dr was amazing & did *not* push unnecessary procedures & was very honest that she did not believe she needed them. However, still let us know that if we wanted peace of mind, we had options. (THIS IS HUGE! Many vets will push unnecessary treatments. This DOES NOT HAPPEN HERE! The dr's are HONEST & SO thorough! ) It is a 24/7 *emergency* vet clinic hospital. Just like our human ER's, patients are triaged & then seen in the order of gravity making every effort to get to everyone as quickly & as safely as possible. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO WAIT. (Keep your expectations realistic, and have empathy for those who have serious, life-threatening injuries or conditions. ) (We spend 8hrs @Kaiser ER & don't bat an eye. But wait an hour to be seen & some people become impatient. This is unrealistic. ) The staff are making EVERY effort to get you & your pet in/out as efficiently as possibly. Because this IS an ER for pups, your exam fee is going to be more than you would normally pay at your family vet. (This is true for us humans too.) However, I think their exam fee of $220 is ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY & WE WILL CONTINUE TO PAY THIS WHEN OUE PUP NEEDS AFTER-HOURS CARE! This is an absolutely AMAZING ER vet! The staff are SO friendly too! They're there to help you & your pup! This is our go-to ER vet!

    Purry

I never leave reviews, but this one truly felt necessary. On New Year's Eve 2025, our beloved kitty of more than 15 years, Purry, crossed the rainbow bridge. From the moment I walked into MedVet, we were met with nothing but professionalism and compassion. Purry was taken back immediately and treated right away. Every single person we encountered, from the front desk to the doctors and staff, was kind, and incredibly sympathetic to our family during the hardest moment. They allowed us to be with Purry while he was being treated, which meant everything to us. It gave us the chance to say goodbye, and I will forever be grateful for that final moment, his last little "meow" as he stood on his front paws while I told him it was okay to go, that we loved him, and the chance to leave his favorite toy with him (a scent of home/love), his red fishy. After Purry passed, MedVet provided a private, comfortable room so we could take our time and say our goodbyes. When we were ready to say goodbye for the last time, we asked if Purry could keep his beloved red fishy. We were told the crematory would likely discard it, but it still felt right knowing he had it with him at the end. Throughout the entire experience, MedVet was professional, caring, and respectful, exactly what anyone would hope for during such a painful time. Just a week after his passing, I received a condolence card in the mail. It was so beautifully written and showed how much MedVet cares. I don't remember everyone's name that night, but I want to thank Michelle, Dr. Wang, Mia, the night shift doctor, another staff member who was very pregnant (I wish I remembered their names), and thank you to all the people working behind the scenes whom we never met. If you ever need emergency care, MedVet on Santa Teresa is truly the place to go. They treat both you and your pet with kindness, dignity, and professionalism. Exactly one month later, on 2/1/26, I received a call from MedVet asking if we wanted Purry's red fishy back. I never expected they would still have it after being told it would likely be thrown away. That call was such a blessing, bittersweet, but incredibly thoughtful. Purry adored those red fishies. Every year Santa brought him a new one, and he would lick them until they practically disappeared. That red fishy is now home, resting with his collar and his other cherished items. It's a small thing, but it speaks volumes about the care and compassion MedVet shows, not just for animals, but for the families who love them.

    Bella June 2025
    Julia M.

I don't know where to begin with this review. Back in June, our sweet 14 year old Bella became gravely ill. In the months prior, she lost a lot of weight, we thought this was just due to her older age. However one day she stopped eating, drinking and was isolating herself. We feared the worst and decided to find an emergency vet for her to be seen as soon as possible. From experiences in the past, when older pets get suddenly sick, some vet hospitals go right to the path of euthanasia without finding a cause, they give up too easy.. This wasn't the case with Med Vet. After a quick assessment it was clear she needed immediate ICU care. From this visit, we learned that Bella has thyroid disease, as well as some other issues that arise with old age cats. After meeting with the doctors that treated her, we can up with an excellent medical plan. All was well up until a couple weeks ago when Bella began vomiting, we once again rushed her to MedVet where she was seen and admitted to ICU for 3 days. For her entire stay, she was treated very well by all staff. They did everything in their power to ensure she was in good hands, they even kept us up to date with the status of her condition every morning she was there. They encouraged us to come visit her whenever we wanted 24/7 and were patient every time we stopped by. By some miracle (and AMAZING medical care) she was discharged and has made a full recovery. She has gained her weight and muscle mass back, she's stronger than she has been in years.  We are so grateful to the entire MedVet team, especially Dr. Brassard. Her expertise and compassion made all the difference in Bella's recovery. Bella is now thriving, and we're hopeful for many more years with her. We also want to sincerely thank Dr. Thompson, Dr. Reich, and Dr. Good, along with the ICU nurses for your dedication and for never giving up on our sweet girl MedVet provides exceptional care,  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone in need.

    Snow the Jack Russel Terrier!
    Clarence Z.

Snow was admitted to MedVet from our Primary Vet after we got news of her condition. She was with them for over half a week and the staff did so well with keeping me updated every single day! Dr. Reich and Dr. Brassard provided me with everything I needed to know and were extremely professional with their word. The doctors and vet techs were all so friendly and showed so much compassion for us. Exactly what you would want when your fur baby is in the ICU! The vet techs I've had the pleasure of working with were all so helpful and knowledgable. All my visitations while she had her stay felt so comforting. I also wanted to express how nice it is to see everyone happy to see Snow when we visit! They love her there so much and say she reminds them of Wishbone. We are still going in for rechecks almost weekly, but whenever I have a question or concern, no matter the time of day, someone is always able to help us! I'm so grateful for everyone there because I can still wake up knowing my Snow is still by my side. I'm still praying and hoping for the best in the coming years with her.

Initially, I was given a clear treatment plan by the first veterinarian I saw. However, during a follow-up visit, additional services and procedures were introduced that were not part of that original plan, without clear communication or justification. More concerning, Shiloh was prescribed a probiotic that was intended for dogs, not cats. After administering the medication, she became extremely ill. This was not only distressing, but completely avoidable and raises serious concerns about attention to detail and patient safety. In addition to the medical issues, I experienced repeated difficulties with front desk staff, who were unprofessional and dismissive. When I escalated my concerns to management, instead of addressing the situation, I was abruptly dismissed as a client. At that point, I had already paid for diagnostic testing, yet no follow-up, explanation of results, or continuity of care was provided. As a result, I was forced to seek care elsewhere and pay additional expenses, while also dealing with the stress of my pet's declining condition. This experience reflects a lack of accountability, poor communication, and concerning medical oversight. I would strongly encourage others to ask detailed questions, verify medications carefully, and advocate closely for their pets when seeking care here.

I spent over $1,000 on that first visit. Just two weeks later, I found worms crawling out of them. For a clinic that claimed to have dewormed and run stool analysis, this was alarming and disappointing. On top of that, the customer service doesn't reflect the values they claim to have. If the staff were as attentive and caring as advertised, they would review patient charts, follow up on issues I had already raised (like worms), and ask the right questions on subsequent visits. Instead, I've had to push for updates and reminders myself. The front desk and techs seem disengaged, rarely smiling or showing genuine care for the animals or their owners. I also question whether certain treatments were even done properly. For example, I was told my kittens were dewormed and their stool was tested, but based on what happened shortly after, I doubt those procedures were carried out thoroughly. Overall, the service feels careless and transactional, and I'm never coming back.

I really only chose this clinic because it was conveniently close and after what has happened to me, I am glad that this convience ended up being the correct choice. I rather deal with front office staff that appear rude than an office that appears nice, but is out to pressure you to spend money. Also, the front staff may appear rude, but at least they are competent and knowledgeable about animals. To add, not all the front office staff is rude, there are just a couple people I've dealt with here and there, but it was never enough to deter me from coming back. My dogs do not have one consistent doctor here. We usually see a different doctor every time we come. Sometimes we get the same doctor, but regardless, every doctor has been great. Some doctors may strongly suggest some testing, but they have never immediately jumped to euthanizing my dog because I said no or strongly suggested my dog would die because I said no. I appreciate that is office is willing to meet you halfway with treatments and what you can afford. I just feel like this office would have never immediately jump to euthanizing my dog as soon as I said I am concerned with costs. This office has never made me feel pressured. They address all concerns. I appreciate that the doctors also listen to me when I tell them what I want them to check because they actually check the exact concern unlike other offices. The more I think about it, the more I just really appreciate this office because they are also always accommodating. When I can't bring my dogs at the same time, they are willing to book in a way that allows me to go back home to switch dogs for back to back appointments. Even with my recent situation, since they were going to be closed and it seemed like an emergency, they recommended another office to see and not only that, they made sure to transfer my dog's file that day even though they were about to close. They also made sure to just secure an appointment for when they reopened just in case the other offices don't work out and that it was okay to cancel by leaving a voicemail. I just wished we were able to wait for their office, because it was traumatic going to the other offices. After this, I don't think I could ever go to any other office.

Archie was 10 months old when his condition became critical. On Sunday, he developed pneumonia. I rushed him to another emergency hospital, where he received excellent care. On Wednesday, I saw him becoming weak again, and I made the mistake of taking him to Banfield, hoping they would finally examine him. They didn't look at him. They didn't touch him. They didn't evaluate him. They told me he "didn't have an appointment," even though I brought all the emergency hospital papers and explained how serious his condition was. The doctor was "in surgery" and couldn't see him. They told me to come back later. In the car, my baby got worse. I ran back inside crying, telling them he couldn't breathe. They took him in... only to tell me he was very sick and needed to go to an emergency hospital. They offered an antibiotic every 4 hours, and I agreed. Minutes later, four people came out carrying Archie, completely agonizing, struggling to breathe, without having given him even basic first aid, without trying to stabilize him, without clearing his airway, without continuous oxygen... nothing. When I asked why they weren't giving him oxygen, the only answer I received was: "That's not the type of oxygen we use." Desperate, I told them: "Put yourself in Archie's place. If you were the one struggling to breathe, even with a simple cannula, give him oxygen." There was no empathy. No humanity. Only indifference. While my husband was on his way to pick us up -- because I was no longer able to drive due to the distress -- I told them I would pay for the oxygen until he arrived, because I didn't want Archie to suffer any more. Even then, their only concern was for us to take him in the car, without stabilizing him, without helping him, without giving him even a moment of relief. And the worst part: They handed my kitten to me while he was agonizing, to die in my car. I watched him suffer, choke, and fight for air while we, desperate, drove him back to the emergency hospital looking for real help. They didn't care about his life, my anguish, or my pain. Their priority was charging for every minute of oxygen, every second, every procedure, regardless of my baby's suffering. They made me feel like a criminal, as if asking for help for my kitten was a problem. I paid the monthly plan. I trusted them. And when I needed them the most, they denied him care and let my baby die without help. This "hospital" only cares about money. Not about animals. Not about families. Not about anyone's pain. I absolutely do not recommend them. My experience was devastating, and I never want anyone else to go through what we did.

For everyone on here, leaving reviews of one stars because you had to wait two hours for an animal…read morethat was not seriously hurt....y'all need to check yourselves. This is an emergency room. When was the last time you went to a human emergency room and didn't have to wait more than two hours? The only cases that don't have to wait two hours come by ambulance. This place is utterly amazing. The staff is super professional. They take care of everybody wonderfully and yes, just like all medical whether animal or human, they are desperately understaffed. Let's give a big shout out to these amazing caring professionals Dr. Macy Dr. Akol, Dr. nicki Dr. Lahue, Dr. Kalff Dr Pressel all the doctors I forgot and the best nurses in the entire world. I've been coming here for over 30 years and only receive the best, most attentive, kindest and gracious of care. Folks need to understand how long things take and what the word triage means. I am disgusted reading one star reviews from people with no concept of how much time good thorough animal care takes and how much things cost. An estimate is an estimate they have only ever charged me for what was needed. They are utter professionals, a very highly regarded facility and quite frankly all you people that are sending in one star reviews don't deserve their service or care. Leon loves Pacific & Santa Cruz Vet so much!!!!

Let me start by saying I have the utmost respect for vets and their staff. Vet care is a tough…read moreprofession. I am a seasoned dog owner who has spent many hours and has had many visits to the ER over the years. However this last visit was brutal. We arrived at 830 am and didn't get fully seen and discharged for 12 hours ! 12 hours is insane to make someone with a sick animal wait. At least be up front on check in and say. You are likely looking at 5-6 hour wait. At least that way you can make a call and decide to not put your already sick animal through more stress. I get how triage works. Most pressing cases are seen first. But to have us come back into the exam room several times just to sit and wait for at least an hour or more each time is wild. The tech calls me and ask me if I've left and I say no I'm right outside and by the time I've come in they have forgotten about us and stick us in an exam room only to sit and wait another chunk of time. The vet was lovely and she helped diagnose my dog and set up a treatment plan. That was the only plus.

We came here last minute on a Friday and wasn't able to see any cats as they're closing. Dont go unless you have 2-3 hours before the closing time. The next day we wanted to see 2 kittens but they couldn't locate one of them and they also happened to be part of a bonded pair so we assume maybe they were adopted. We knew we wanted 2, so we asked to see 2 more kittens, and they allegedly gave my partner some attitude but let us see them. We got one free vet visit and went to VCA already, easy and great staff. They were 10 and 13 weeks at adoption, and are quickly growing and such a blessing. No fleas or ticks, both spayed and the older one with rabies shot, both began to do their other vaccine series as well.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with San José Animal Care & Services regarding a…read morenoisy dog complaint. I invested a significant amount of time documenting the issue, maintaining a detailed log, and collecting audio evidence of the excessive barking. Despite making every effort to provide objective documentation, my complaint ultimately went nowhere. I was informed that the department could not open or review the audio files or links I provided. During a phone conversation, I attempted to play the recordings for Supervisor Flores so she could hear the barking firsthand. Instead of evaluating the obvious evidence, she complained about the noise herself and insisted she couldn't hold a conversation with the barking. Experiencing the barking first-hand only led her to give me unprofessional and rude service over the phone rather than admitting the barking established an issue. The requirement for a second petitioner was another major source of frustration. In my view, a complaint supported by detailed documentation and objective evidence should be evaluated on its own merits. Whether another neighbor is willing to sign a petition should not determine whether a documented nuisance receives attention. Their claim is that it eliminates targeting, but it does the opposite, whereas soliciting around my neighborhood would in fact create a great opportunity for targeting me. The system is backwards. Staff can read the rules off a sheet of paper but when asking the why/reasoning behind these requirements they can't elaborate. Throughout the process, I felt that staff were unable or unwilling to provide meaningful assistance or offer reasonable alternatives for submitting evidence. When I initially attempted to escalate the problem I was transferred and did not receive a call back in a timely manner after leaving multiple voicemails. I asked for the supervisors contact information, and was given the incorrect number for the Supervisor. Rather than working toward a resolution, the process felt focused on procedural barriers that prevented the complaint from moving forward. As a resident, I expect a city department tasked with enforcing nuisance animal ordinances to fairly evaluate documented complaints and provide workable methods for submitting evidence. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I am left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and with very little confidence that the current complaint process is designed to address legitimate concerns from residents. I sincerely hope the department reviews its procedures for accepting evidence and reconsiders policies that may discourage residents from reporting ongoing nuisance issues. The current process did not leave me feeling heard, supported, or served.
