She was there for a few weeks and we decided to take her in. She had all her vaccines at Alpha (we bought the kitten package). We also got her spayed here in January. While it's more expensive to spay here, I think it's worth it because they do a blood panel. She actually had some high kidney markers and we postponed her spay. Got her retested a month later and all good. Everyone here is fabulous, especially Dr. Peet and Sophia! I've referred 3 friends here as well as my mom who rescued a kitten too. Everyone loves Alpha! We are in the process of transporting one of our pets to another country and it requires a USDA clearance. It is really important to not only research the USDA website criteria but also to be very timely and accurate on who and how you go through this process. Today I made a call to Alpha to ask for information and help with the process. Sophie answered the phone and I was extremely thankful she did. She is a fountain of knowledge about the USDA process and was able to give me very important advice as to how and what is needed for the country we are desiring our pet to go. I visited Alpha Veterinary Clinic today with my 15-year-old cat. The clinic itself is very pleasant, with separate waiting areas so you don't have to sit with other animals, which helped keep things calm. The doctor came in quickly, gave my cat a thorough but efficient exam, and clearly explained my options. Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication, my insurance membership didn't apply to the services we needed, so we weren't able to move forward with treatment here. That was disappointing, but I do want to note that the office staff (especially Michele) and Dr. P. were both professional efficient and capable. The clinic is in a convenient location with plenty of parking and good resources nearby. Overall, a positive environment and helpful team, even though the insurance issue prevented us from proceeding with care this time. read more

I feel like I've finally found a veterinarian office I can trust, who is honest, and whose prices are reasonable. And who also doesn't rely on upselling or scare tactics to pump more money out of you. I brought my pup here to be neutered and to have his teeth cleaned. They took very good care of him and did excellent work. Pricing was clear, transparent, and very fair. Communication on the day of the procedure was prompt and thorough. It was stressful for me but they put my mind at ease with excellent communication. Dr. Peet and staff clearly love animals and it shows in how they interact with the patients and their guardians. It's always stressful when you need to bring your pet to the vet, but I truly feel at ease here. Unlike many vet offices, I'm able to get an appointment in a reasonable time and for more pressing matters I've gotten an appointment the same day. The environment is very calm and staff appear happy and not stressed out, which is important because animals pick up on that energy. And happy/unstressed employees mean they will give you and your pet the consideration and attention they need and deserve. Parking can be a little tight directly outside the office during peak hours but there are plenty of spaces in the lot. I've been taking my 2 cats to Dr. Peet for almost 10 years, they are now 12 years old. I've also recommended several family members who all bring their cats and dogs to Alpha Animal Hospital. Dr. Peet and his staff are always helpful and quick to assist. I've had several instances of emergencies where the staff fit us in the same day. Dr. Peet has helped with small and large issues with our cats' health including urinary blockages, diabetes, annual exams, teeth cleanings, neutering, and more. Dr. Peet always takes the time to ask questions and give thorough explanations for medical treatments and diagnoses. He's come to know our cats throughout these years. Recently one of our cats escaped and we had him microchipped at Alpha Animal Hospital years ago. Dr. Peet and his staff went out of their way to dig up very old records and help with locating the microchip number. At a disparate and absolutely stressed out situation this veterinary office came to the rescue. Long story short, I had to fly out to Hawaii with my dog and the existing health certificate I had was dated incorrectly. I couldn't get on my initial flight at 7am, so I rebooked for 11am same day. This is a Saturday morning and many vet offices close for the weekend including our regular vet. I called every bay area hospital that was open and nobody would take us in, a few of those places recommended Alpha! I walked into Alpha just in a hot mess and begged them to see my dog so that I can get a valid certificate. They were so incredibly nice and friendly, we were able to get on our flight!!!! The doctor made sure we had all the other paperwork completely for Hawaii as they have a strict rabies process. All was cleared and they saved the day for us! Misdiagnosed our dogs paw licking and prescribed unneeded medicine. They wanted to do parasite scraping and test too at a significant cost. We declined because our bill would have been $600+ after all the stuff they wanted to pile on. We went home after paying $400 and since the medicines didn't seem to be working after two dats, we did a thorough check ourselves and found she had 3 prickly thorns between her paws. This review is long overdue. Let me first start by saying, I have trust issues, especially when it comes to other people handling my fur children. I'm sure most pet owners feel this way, especially if you've had bad experiences with veterinarians in the past. I have to honestly say that Dr Peet is the only person that I trust when it comes to the health and well-being of my pets. He's smart, honest, and he doesn't overcharge. You can tell that he's not in this business for the money. He genuinely cares about animals and their owners so you know you're in good hands. Thanks to Dr Peet, I got to spend a long and wonderful 19 years with my cat, Pepper. Prior to finding Alpha Animal Hospital, I had taken Pepper to The Cat Hospital when she was about 14 years old for a routine checkup. I felt like they overcharged me and I was a little skeptical when the blood results came back and nobody called me to review them with me. I had to call their office and I spoke to someone at the front desk who told me over the phone that the blood work came back normal. I had asked for a copy of Pepper's medical records and decided to take her to Alpha Animal Hospital for a second opinion. During my visit with Dr Peet, he looked at Pepper's medical records and told me that she was in the early stages of kidney disease based on her blood panel. He recommended that I change her diet and start feeding her prescription food specifically designed for cats with kidney disease. He also recommended that I start giving her probiotics along with the food to slow the progression of the disease, which would add years to her life. Had I not taken Pepper to see Dr Peet for a second opinion, I don't think she would have lived for an additional 5 years. During the last year of her life when her health started to quickly decline, Dr Peet took really good care of us. Eventually, I had to start thinking about plans for euthanasia, but I wanted to find a pet clinic that offered an at home euthanasia service so that Pepper could pass away peacefully in the comfort of her own home. Dr Peet provided me with some contact information of a clinic that specialized in those services, so I made the final arrangements, but I made them a little too late. Pepper was in a lot of pain and I didn't want to wait for the euthanasia appointment that I scheduled so I rushed Pepper over to see Dr Peet so that he could quickly do the procedure and put an end to her suffering. Thankfully, he was able to squeeze in an appointment for me within a couple of hours and everything went smoothly, aside from the fact that I was an emotional wreck. This was the first time I've ever had to do something like this, and let me tell you, it's not easy. Those final moments will stay with you forever. It took me many months to heal from the pain of losing Pepper. Thankfully, Dr Peet held onto her ashes for me until I was ready to pick them up (6 months later). Since then, I've adopted a new kitten and plan on bringing another one home next month. I've already scheduled both of their wellness checkup appointments for next month at Alpha Animal Hospital so they can meet my favorite veterinarian, Dr Peet. read more

This review is long overdue. I came here a little over a month ago, it was an emergency visit due to the pup I just got. He was having a seizure within only two hours of having him. I gave the office a call, since they were the closest animal hospital and immediately upon arrival, the staff tried their very best resuscitating him. It was so painful to watch him leave us so early but this review is also mainly for their help. I was scammed for that puppy, he was barely about a month old and flew over seas to get to me. The people who sold him to us, gave us an underaged pup and also the wrong puppy. The staff helped me with the paperwork to confirm that the paperwork the breeders originally gave me were incorrect in order to get my refund back. It has been a tremendously awful experience but I'm very grateful for the staff here. read more

When I called to set up an appointment the person on the phone wasn't friendly and didn't seem interested in answering any of my questions. That should have been a sign but I figured it was 5pm and maybe the office was closing soon. Fast forward to our appointment. We have a kitten that has been spayed, and vaccinated and just needed a rabies vaccine because she was too young for it at the time of adoption. I haven't been to a vet for a long time and didn't bring my records. Okay that's my bad. Regardless, I let them know where I adopted her, that she had all of her vaccines and care and they still tried to sell me all of the vaccines! Why would I want to put her through a round of shots she already had? Then they asked if I wanted her to have an exam. I asked how much it was and received an estimate that included the things I had already declined. I declined them again but figured an exam was a good idea. The visit was very quick, I learned nothing from the 'exam'. The vet spent all of 1 minute in the room with us and didn't say she looked healthy or things to look out for. Nothing about side effects of what the vaccine could be, nothing about when the vaccine was effective. I don't know how to convey how awful the experience was, but I can't imagine loving animals and running a place this way. We love our new family member and WON'T ever be bringing her back here. Everywhere else in the area had a two week wait for an appointment, except this one. I requested an appointment online late in the night and got a reply quickly the next morning for the following week! My kitties are extremely scared of the vet, so it was a nerve wracking experience for them, but the techs treated them gently and with care. They received their overdue annual exam and vaccinations, as well as a few extra stuff too. It really wasn't that expensive for both cats. I contacted them to get a quote for spaying our dog. They said a medical exam is required prior to an estimate which costs $75. Once they did the medical exam, they gave me a bill of $235. I mentioned that over the phone when I took the appt I was not told that this is required for an estimate. They then gave me an estimate that was ~$900 which is much more expensive than similar places in the area. I decided to not proceed but by that time for just getting the estimate I had to spend a couple of hours and $75. While estimates can depend on multiple factors, I think they can just give a ballpark over the phone based on the overall dog conditions and weight, instead of asking for $75 and then providing an estimate that is quite higher than the other places. read more

OK, it took me 2 visits and 3 encounters overall with this establishment to finally leave my review so here it goes and it is going to be candid, honest, fortright like all my reviews are and I'm not going to pull any punches. The place itself is clean, well-maintained and decent overall but the floor is an ungodly marigold linoleum and that makes it look dingy and dirty, but when you take a closer look you'll see that the place is very clean indeed. the chairs to sit in need work Dr. Peet should invest in some new furniture because they are basically cloth and don't have a very professional appearance. The rooms where you have your consultation are clean, adequate and overall they suffice for the locale and situation involved so no problem there. Dr. Peet himself is a capable and overall VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD doctor and he really knows his stuff. His reputation is well-deserved and when I took my cat Mr. Food to get treated by him he did a good job explaining to me what was going on with him and what the treatment would entail. It was like pulling teeth getting him on the phone though because he is literally busy ALL DAY and makes all his calls at the end of the day I think so finally got his routine down, although all the while I thought he was jerking me around. No, he WASN'T jerking me around he was just busy and when he finally called me telling me what was wrong with my cat I breathed a sigh of relief cos my cat is pretty much the picture of health and just needed vitamins. The price tag was pretty hefty to know that but oh well I would have paid 5 times that to make sure my kitty was OK. Where I really felt a little miffed was the staff. The staff seemed a little cold but they were all women and I know I can be a little intimidating at times but I thought they had all the charm of a school of piranhas. I believe it must have been my stature as to why I thought I wasn't being handled the right way and that's they reason why Grandma took Mr. Food in to see Dr. Peet on Friday, and she basically said " yeah you're being a jerk lighten up and don't be so intense you should really stop being such an ogre all the time ". Yeah, my own Mother thinks I'm an ogre but hey I can own up to my mistakes and I'll rectify them immediately! Overall Dr. Peet and Alpha Pet Hospital are great and I do recommend them. Been going here for over 13 years to see Dr. Peet. Great vet office. Having pet insurance always helps (I recommend nationwide; they have a 90% reimbursement plan). This place isn't as expensive as other vets when it comes down to it and the services needed. My little dog has been in kidney failure for a while and also has liver issues so he's required multiple medications every day for a few years. He also gets his nails done here every month or two and the staff treats him amazingly (he gets scared, normally. They handle him so well that he doesn't even yelp). I do not recommend if you're on a schedule, quite often we've waited to be seen 15-30 mins after our scheduled appt to only see the doctor for 10-15 mins. They give you the option to wait another 30 mins to 1 hour or reschedule after you've come in and waited so long. I absolutely understand running behind or being short staffed, so many unexpected issues can come up at a veterinary practice but at least contact your patient ahead of their appt to let them know the situation so that they can plan accordingly or reschedule. It is the lack of empathy and tone from the staff that is also bothersome, they expect us to accommodate their schedule but no regard for others. I gave 2 stars because we really liked our vet, I'm very disappointed to have to part ways with Alpha due to these 2 circumstances. read more

If you want your pet to live, please do not bring them to Alpha. Dr. Puneet Parashar is not a trusting veterinarian. I brought my dog in for a simple dental cleaning procedure, but he failed to check my dog's blood test which is protocol for all dental procedures because they have to put them under anesthesia. My dog was 11 years old, it is PROTOCOL to check and make sure his kidney values and other values were normal. They were not. My dog had stage 4 renal failure BEFORE the dental cleaning and this so called vet still decided to put him under anesthesia. Not only did he proceed with the dental cleaning and not alert me about his kidney values, he lied and told me he was healthy and looked great when I picked him up. The crazy thing is, I asked him to do a full senior blood panel because my dog was due for one. You would think he would be more diligent about checking it. While my dog was sedated and done with the dental cleaning, he also recommend to remove 15 masses on his body that I now know was unnecessary. Removal of the masses comes with prescribed pain killers, which are damaging to the kidneys. So not only did the anesthesia exacerbate his renal failure, but the pain killers did too. This so called vet went on for a week not knowing what was going on with my dog, all the while, my dog was starving because he was so sick and didn't want to eat. This tells me that he didn't look at the blood test at all, he doesn't know how to read kidney values, or he lied and tried to get out of it. Or maybe all of the above, who knows at this point. He also ordered an x ray that did nothing for my dog, gave him fluids twice in different visits that did nothing for him (my dog was drinking more water then usual but not eating... so why more fluids for hydration??), and said to give him a special food and that he would be back to normal in no time. Finally after 8 days of my dog not eating and suffering, he decided to do a second blood test. His kidney values this time was through the roof. If there was such thing as stage 10 renal failure, that would be it. Normal kidney values for creatinine levels in dogs should be 0.5-1.5. My dog's creatinine level before the dental procedure was 5.5 (stage 4 renal failure is anything above 5.0). The second blood test after 8 days, was 15.5. He literally slowly killed my dog. I ended up rushing him to an emergency vet clinic and they confirmed that the dental procedure and mass removal is what exacerbated his renal failure. After four days of trying to save him, I had to put him down because the damage to his kidneys was too severe. There is way more to this very unfortunate situation that I didn't even mention that shows how much negligence there was from this so called vet. But it is just too much to type. I lost my baby boy because of him. And I understand that he already had renal failure, but lots of dogs are able to live with it if it was caught early enough. I could have done things to prevent it from getting worse, but instead this so called vet killed him so quickly I didn't even have time to yell at him and give him shit for it. He needs to be shut down. I actually just read another review from two months ago about a woman and her cat, where he lied and said the cat was healthy but it's kidney values were actually stage 2 renal failure. And now the cat is at stage 3 renal failure. PLEASE REPORT THIS VET AND CLINIC TO THE BOARD OF VETERINARY MEDICINE FOR NEGLIGENCE. read more

I really appreciate the flexibility and that the staff reciprocated the sense of urgency I was feeling for my dog, Lucky. As a first time visitor I didn't get my initial $40 exam fee waived . My pets are all patients at this clinic. I called them around 2:00 on a Thursday, because my beautiful dog was having a first and only seizure. The vet receptionist who answered the phone said "sorry the vet is on lunch", you have to call the emergency, I responded, "can you please call him this is an emergency, she said no, he's on lunch" Well sorry to say my dog passed within 10 mins and my heart was ripped out" This clinic could of given a crap! When I was there in the past for check ups with my pets, I felt they just want your money, and there was a disconnect with the sincerity of caring for animals. I used to work as an animal tech for years, and our client would of never have treated their client/patients so coldly. Long story, but Dr. Peet was quick to respond and saved him after surgery. We had a senior dog too that we adopted and we had to put her down after she had a stroke. We're grateful to Dr Peet for saving our cat, Max, who was having trouble peeing. Alpha Animal Hospital fit us in for same-day appointments twice in one week. At first, we thought it was a UTI. But then Max stopped peeing completely and Dr Peet fit us in for a second same-day appointment (on a Friday night right before closing!) and diagnosed Max as blocked, a life-threatening situation that requires a catheter and 3 days of vet supervision. We got him to kitty ER immediately, which saved his life. We're grateful Dr Peet saw us on Friday as Max still looked healthy then but would have tanked overnight without treatment. I have two issues here, both surrounding customer service and competency. My first issue is surrounding the fact that on their website they have a coupon for a "new client special" where if you print out and bring in a coupon, that you get your first appointment for free. I should also note that at the time, there was also a yelp check in special for a free first appointment. I show up, complete the paperwork, and speak with the tech. I present the coupon, and am told "Oh yea, we don't accept those." I then asked about the yelp offer, which of course, they will not accept. When I asked why they have the promotions online if they don't accept their own coupons, she just shrugged and said "I don't know" and asked for my credit card. Also, standard services are much more expensive at this facility than others in the area. Also, the other facilities will accept their own coupons/promotions. Second issue: They were adamant that I send in patient information/medical history via email prior to the meeting. I also brought in paper copies of medical records. They didn't bother to read either, and then tried to charge me for services that my pup had already received and did not need. read more

Called my regular vet - Waggly Hospital- to get him in early because i feared it was a foxtail and that can really be uncomfortable and even dangerous for your dog ! Waggly didn't have any vets until Tuesday and I cannot let my dog go 3 days with ear pain ! Took a chance and went to Alpha Animal Hospital! Jessica was so gently with him and chose to carry him in instead of dragging him in ! He didn't want to leave us! Dr. Peet came out to show us what was inside Bear Bears ear! Gave him an antibiotic shot and some medicine ! Seriously - this place is the best and the price was more then affordable ! They must have charged us regular rates ! I've been to other vets before for pets and usually they charge an insane amount for being seen on the weekend ! I feel they genuinely care ! Excellent customer service and fast service too ! Dr. Peet has been taking care of our pets Chunk and Oreo for several years. Chunk (Shih-Zhu) and Oreo (Maltese/Japanese Chin Mix) are getting older so need a bit more looking after compared to when they were in their younger days. Just over a year ago, we noticed Oreo having trouble breathing as well as a few other issues so we brought him in for a checkup. Dr. Peet conducted several tests and found some issues (largely age related as well as heart disease related). The Dr. put him on a good regimen to have a good quality of life and manage his ailments. Oreo did fantastic on the medicine which helped manage the stress on his heart. Most recently, Oreo somehow dislocated his hip putting him in terrible pain. We spent a worried night in the ER at a local 24-hour Vet ER clinic. We weren't convinced on operating on him at the clinic as the Dr. on staff set pretty low expectations given it was an extremely high risk procedure given Oreo's age and ailments. Given we could lose him we opted to bring him home on pain medicine so we could think it over. In the morning, we contacted Dr. Peet as well as several other Doctors to better understand our options. This was a lot of field work from sending his x-rays, blood samples, echocardiogram and other reports to various Doctors to thoroughly discuss options. We're quite lucky in the Bay Area in that we have several dedicated Vets and facilities to manage the care of our pets (family members). After discussing with several Doctors and Orthopedic Surgeons, my wife and I decided to proceed with Dr. Peet's plan surrounding (FHO) which was the consensus by the Vet community in this situation. We had a great relationship with Dr. Peet and felt he had Oreo's interests at the highest priority. Dr. Peet adjusted his appointments that afternoon to operate on short notice and he secured another Dr. to aid with the procedure. This gave us additional confidence (having 2 Doctors) since Oreo could crash under anesthesia. During our extensive research, we learned that, once they crash, there's less than 5% chance of being able to resuscitate so it's critical to monitor vitals closely during the procedure. Again, we felt confident in Dr. Peet's plan to mitigate risk here. Communication before and after the procedure was great and the highlight of it all was that they didn't have to perform FHO as originally thought from the original x-rays at the 24-hour clinic. Dr. Peet took additional x-rays before the procedure and discovered Oreo had a very rare form of dislocation that made it 98% chance that they could get it back successfully. With many dislocations, there's a 50% chance it can come out again - hence why FHO is recommended as a long term solution. Once Oreo was sedated, he was able to get it back into place. The fact that he was able to do this within the 3-day window I believe added to the success (Dr. Peet saw Oreo within 24 hours of the injury which I believe helped significantly). I am very grateful that the Dr. Squeezed Oreo into his schedule given our Emergency. Moreover, the Dr. And staff followed up daily after the surgery to ensure he was recovering well. We really appreciate their dedication and attention to detail. As I reflect on the experience (which was an emotional rollercoaster), I am very thankful for the team at Alpha including Dr. Peet and Dr. May-Pumphrey who were huge life savers at the end of the day.
