Eileen, while a nice person, is utterly incompetent and unreliable. If you consider yourself a busy person who needs someone to perform alterations within a specified time frame, AVOID Said with Threads and strongly consider going elsewhere. Her inability to properly schedule appointments and have projects completed on time disqualifies "Said with Threads, LLC" as a viable option for having clothing alterations performed. If you are an East Bay resident and need alterations performed, please read the rest of this review before scheduling an appointment with this establishment. I've been going to Eileen since December 2024. Online reviews looked good, and her shop was near my house, which made it convenient for me. I encountered an odd issue with her during my first visit. She had informed me my pants were ready for pickup, and I specified the day/time I would be coming in. When I went to her shop for pickup, I called, and she informed me she had gone to deliver an order for someone else because she didn't think I would appear on time. I was completely baffled as to why she reached this conclusion and why she admitted it verbally. Between September and October 2025, I had requested that she perform alterations on some pants. On this occasion I was charged the day I left the articles with her and was assured they'd be ready on the date she had specified. Prior to picking them up, I called Eileen and informed her I was on my way. When she answered, she told me my pants were not ready and that she hadn't even started working on them. I was quite upset over this since more than a week had passed since I'd left the pants with her. About a month later, I brought in a blazer she had worked on previously and asked her to reattach the buttons, as some of them had come loose. Although she did not charge me for this, she assured me the blazer would be ready on time. She failed to have the blazer ready on time when I went to her shop. I went to go run some errands for about an hour, and when I came back, she had finished working on my blazer. This indicated that she did not need more than a week to work on my blazer and had procrastinated or otherwise failed to make good use of her time. What frustrated me, however, was the condition in which she returned my blazer. It was covered in lint/hair/debris and had a strange odor to it. I had dry-cleaned it prior to leaving it with Eileen, and her utter lack of regard for keeping it clean really upset me. Most recently, during December 2025, I requested an appointment two days in advance. I wanted her to hem some pants I needed for work. She had agreed to meet me at 11 am on a Wednesday. On the day of the appointment, I called her to let her know I had arrived. When she answered, she told me she had mistakenly marked my appointment for a different time/day and had left to attend to another client. read more

I really want to give this place a 5 star review because Eileen is so sweet/friendly... but this was the one and only thing that made me cry throughout the entire wedding planning process :'( Three months before my wedding, I brought my dress in for my initial consultation and price quote. I found Said With Threads through a Facebook wedding page and Yelp (all with good reviews!). Eileen doesn't uncharge for weddings so her price was much more reasonable compared to other bridal boutiques. Another reason I chose her was because her shop was close by, only a ~10 minute drive away. Initially, the plan was to have the dress done in 3-4 visits but it ended up being a total of 10 (!!!!) appts... literally up until the week before leaving for my wedding. It was soooo stressful going into each appt because it was always a gamble on whether or not the dress had been changed/fixed since the last appt. In addition, EVERY TIME that the dress was too tight, she asked if it was because I was bloated/swollen from being on my menstrual cycle.. even when I'm not (not sure if it's just me but I find that to be lowkey rude lol) 6/21 - initial consult 7/9 - first fitting, measured and pinned 7/16 - waist too tight, cut hem 7/30 - waist still too tight, uneven hem 8/4 - cancelled due to covid 8/24 - still the same waist tightness, she noticed I was upset so she planned/pinned the bustle 8/28 - waist slightly looser but still tight, bustle uneven 9/3 - nothing done because she thought the appt was the next day 9/4 - tightness around the waist still the same, shoulder straps uneven, I requested to see the dress with the bustle undone and I noticed that the hem was way too long when the bustle was let down 9/9 - waist feels even tighter, I had to recommend her to measure my waist with my regular clothes on for comparison 9/10 - dress fits well, she fixed some slightly loose fabric under one armpit when I pointed it out but OMG FINALLY DONE!!! read more

I've gone to Eileen for two different bridesmaid dresses and she has delivered both times! The first was a mess. I was added a last minute bridesmaid because one of the original bridesmaid could no longer make the wedding so I took her dress which was 2 sizes too small and one of the other bridesmaid had a spare dress that I was able to give to Eileen to piece together enough material to expand the dress to fit me. Eileen did a fantastic job and in such a short amount of time. Super grateful that she was able to take me in and deliver on such a stressful project. The second time went a lot smoother and Eileen as usual finished quickly and did great! I will definitely come back for another and any other tailoring needs I have in the future! Eileen herself is super sweet and friendly and I feel that her prices are more than fair for her work! This review is way overdue, I've gone to Eileen for MANY different alterations appointments at this point. Bridesmaid dresses, Indian blouses and lehenga skirts (including some for my own wedding) - there's no one else I trust with alterations. Eileen is super sweet and very talented. One thing I really appreciate is how great she is at explaining what needs to be done, as well as making sure you're happy with the alterations she's about to do. She always walks through what she thinks needs to be done, and is very honest about if there are things she can't do (ex. blouses that just won't fit or work because they were constructed wrong). She's given me advice on websites to use where dresses would have 2 layers vs 3 (which makes alterations cheaper), has given me advice on straps for dresses. She's even essentially deconstructed/reconstructed a mermaid style Indian lehenga skirt for me to make it fit since the tailor in India made it weird. She's redone zippers for me, shortened dresses (which is usually why I go in - most bridesmaid dresses are way too long on me), to name a few things. Not to mention, she's a joy to talk to during the appointments, and makes me feel comfortable always. Pricing is definitely reasonable compared to other places! 10/10 recommend. read more

I drove over an hour for Eileen to be my seamstress for my wedding. She still requires masks, which I do not mind at all! It is her business and she is allowed to have her rules. Eileen sees so many brides, it would be awful if she spread any sickness due to someone's lack of compassion. She is attentive, honest, sweet and very talented. Whenever I ran late for my appointment, she insisted I took my time. My dress was perfect throughout my wedding and she even added tulle straps to my 2nd dress with no added cost! Eileen was a dream to work with for my wedding dress and qipao alteration! I initially checked out a few options and Said with Threads was by far the most affordable. I eventually found out it was because Eileen does not believe in up charging for bridal which can't be said for most others in the wedding industry. She did an absolutely amazing job in the alterations itself for my two dresses. They were both initially too large for me and she did a great job of tailoring it perfectly to my size. She was also able to accommodate multiple last minute changes as I ended up getting food poisoning right before the wedding. Besides being great at her job, Eileen is also so friendly and easy to talk to. I always enjoyed our conversations when I came in for my fittings. My wedding dress was a HOT MESS when I first brought it to Eileen. Yeah, I was one of those rose tinted glasses-wearing brides that saw a too-good-to-be-true "handmade" Etsy dress at a reasonable price and totally fell for it. The dress I got was... not what I ordered. The fit was poor, the hem was jagged, the stitching was lazy, and the sleeves were so tight I couldn't lift my arms. With about 2 months to go before my wedding, I rushed the gown over to Eileen who saved the day! Not only did she bring my dream wedding dress to life, but she did so in an incredible amount of time and I couldn't believe how little she charged me for all that work! Plus, Eileen is just a genuinely pleasant person to be around and chat with. I really wish I had pictures of the dress before Eileen rescued it for comparison, but you can still see how beautifully it turned out! The only thing Eileen didn't do was the waist sash. I wanted to give her more business but she was closed for a month and then had me scheduled for a time that she did not capture correctly in her appointment book, so as a result, she could not see me at the time that she said she would. Eileen was wonderful to work with and I'm so happy I supported this small business for my wedding! She did everything for my wedding, from my wedding dress, the bustle, to rehearsal dinner pantsuit, wedding dancing dress, and others. The prices are extremely reasonable for the same quality of work as a place I'd expect from where I bought my wedding dress. She even threw in some alterations for free because I brought in so much stuff! She always knew exactly what to do, whether it was a torso problem (so she's fix that to shorten the dress vs hem the bottom which is the easy solution) or how to bustle in various ways. I did a french bustle for my dress and had tons of compliments on the bustle because it was so hidden and neatly tucked inside. Level of organization is not the highest (we had a few hiccups in appointments/timing for pick up) but honestly, Eileen works so hard to deliver everything you need, when you need it- it was a non-issue. read more

Eileen has been nothing short of wonderful. She's friendly but still gets straight to the point with your needs and she's an expert. She can look at your garment, your body, and immediately be able to guide you on how to fix up your piece. I stopped by last minute without any accessories... just my wedding dress that I had custom made over seas. My designer left a little room around the corset, forgot to add a bustle when we had discussed adding that, and I had around an extra 6 inches of the dress length, leading me to trip over my dress as I walked. I'm glad these are all fixable but the time I received the dress left me with barely any time to look for someone in the area to alter. I called Eileen and she was able to squeeze me in on evening to see what can be done. I do not recommend going to her a little over a month before your wedding but I was a little cornered. She was able to bring in my corset and bustle my dress within the month-ish time that I waltzed in. We had a total of 3-4 fittings and bam. I was a princess. My future sister in law also came by to hem her dress about a week before the wedding. Eileen was able to do it in a few days. Tips for a perfect fitting: 1. bring the shoes you want to wear with your dress to make sure the length of dress is perfect. If you plan to change shoes, bring those too and she can guide you. 2. bring or wear the undergarments you plan to wear that day 3. bring your MOH or whomever will be helping you bustle your dress. practice those and leave extra time day of for shaky fingers and oppsie moments (because we definitely used all the time and then extra time to bustle my dress on wedding day) read more

Eileen is a gem! So sweet and friendly. I was recommended to come here by a couple friends when I needed my bridesmaid dress shortened. All Covid protocols were followed. Be sure to bring the heels and bra you're going to be wearing during your event! She was so quick fitting me in my dress. I paid, set up a date for pick up, and I was in and out in no time! Picked up my dress a few days later, but was in a rush so I wasn't able to try it on there. Went home and the length was perfect w/ my heels! I said "Yes to the Dress" one year before bringing it into SWT and working with Eileen. I didn't realize how much poof my dress had but Eileen was able to alter it and even create a bustle for me to be comfortable during the wedding reception. I had brought my wedding dress I had bought online to have Eileen help me fix them, only to discover to my dismay that the dress was wrong in all proportions and not fixable, literally 2 months before my wedding!! Eileen was so warm hearted and kind as well as sympathetic. Like a fairy godmother, she drove me to find my wedding dress at Weddings and Dreams, where I found the perfect dress (conservative yet beautiful for a Catholic Wedding!). She then helped me tailor the dress perfectly to my size (from size 8 to petite size), adjusted the hem line, adjusted the waist line (as I have a shorter torso and longer legs), and made sure all the lace and beading was perfect too! I cannot find enough words to express my gratitude and thanks to Eileen and Said with Threads. Came here as a walk In, waited 30 min before someone came out to even say they'd be with me soon. So I waited. As soon as the dressing room was available I was told to go head. I put my dress on, was told I'd have to pay a "rush fee x3". Got pins put in my dress, was getting it measured all to just tell 1 hour in that she could not do it for me because she thought I was her appointment?!! I told her I found her online and walked in. With one of my dresses, I had asked her if she would help me find a way to minimize the visible cleavage. Instead of adding fabric or stitching something closed, she told me to wear dress tape, showed me how to use it, and even gave me a few strips! - Prices are incredibly reasonable. - The work is awesome quality and Eileen takes a lot of pride in what she does. Eileen knows exactly what she is doing! She has so much knowledge on fabrics, alternations, stitching, etc. - she is truly a specialist in her craft. I've been to Said with Threads several times for various clothing items: a cheap, poorly fitting bridesmaid dress, an oversized jacket, too long cocktail dresses, too long pants, and big blousy, long, sleeves on a shirt. She knows how clothing should fit on your body and how material should hang and lay against you. During fittings, she can just look at you wearing the piece of clothing and know exactly what needs to be done. She's honest and has taught me how to create a raw hem on pants myself (instead of having her create it for me) and has told me when a garment was not worth the cost of fixing it (and that I should just return it). I have been to many alteration shops and while they may have been cheaper, they certainly don't have the quality Eileen provides. At those other places, I was always hesitant to see the outcome of my clothing, but I always feel confident in Eileen's work. Eileen is also the sweetest person! read more

SWT is awesome. Eileen is knowledgable and has repeatedly delivered awesome work/service. I've had her alter several pairs of pants. From simple hemming with my jeans to making room for cyclist butt in my designer slacks, I've been thoroughly satisfied with her handiwork. I messed up stripping an old hockey jersey with a seamripper and speared a nice sized hole (1-2") in the polyester knit. Eileen was able to close up the hole and you can't tell it used to have a huge hole in it. She even helped out with one of my favorite sweaters that popped a seam in the pocket pro bono. I loved having my wedding dress altered here. The place is small and homey feeling, and she makes you feel very welcome. When I got my dress it fit a little snug on the hips but was loose on the top. When she finished with it, it was a perfect snug fit all the way around and looked gorgeous. She also pointed out a small tear that came on the dress and fixed it easily. My favorite part about the whole thing was the unique bustle that she used for my dress. When pinned up for dancing, it looked like a cascading waterfall and I just loved it.
