Really unprofessional behavior. 1) took off her mask and breathed all over me, didn't even ask if I was ok with it 2) did not know to to subtly hem my dress 3) told me it was impossible even though the store I bought it from (BHLDN) said that it was 4) acted patronizing when I showed her pictures of other hem jobs ("sweetie, there's no way that this was hemmed") Long: I got a wedding dress from BHLDN. Usually these dresses are made long to accomodate different heights, and BHLDN assured me that it could be shortened subtly for my height. When I took my dress to Haydee she said this was impossible and made me feel stupid for even bringing it up. It's a popular dress, so showed her pictures of the same dress in the same size being modified to fit someone shorter than me. She claimed that it must have never been hemmed and that I was being tricked. Haydee almost convinced me (saying there wasn't enough time before my wedding and that I should book her NOW) but my mom insisted on taking me to get another opinion. We called the BHLDN store and they again told me that it was designed to be hemmed (as all their dresses are). They recommended me someone else, who showed me how there are these flaps that are built into the bottom of the skirt so that when you do the hem job, they can hide the sewing. They said this was really common for wedding dresses. I thought this information could be useful for Haydee in her future work and to let her know I was going with some else (which I know can be awkward but I figured was better than ghosting her), so I texted to let her know these things, but she turned pretty rude - see attached screenshot. She is one of the few that can tailor Indian wedding lehengas and got it done in less than a week which was great... not so great was not letting out the seams low enough for me. I had come to Haydee to get a top made, this lady asked me to come for fitting on 4/15. I had to reschedule, so I called on 4/15 morning to let ask if could come on Monday. She told me she was hospitalized for bronchitis for 3 days, so to make things easy for her I asked if she needed more time, where I was told my things are ready and to come on Tuesday because she wants to wrap things up. So on Tuesday I go in for a fitting all the way from SF, this lady spends 10 minutes giving a spiel about how terrible some other customer is and tells me she didn't ask me to come for the fitting. She throws a fit when I ask her very politely if it wasn't ready she should've just let me know. She starts cussing and throws my uncut fabric at me. I understand Illness can delay things but what is the use of asking someone to come in if you are just going to attack them? Save yourself the trouble and take your business elsewhere. Today I went to see Haydee with a very large bridal gown, I needed it taken in a lot, the bottom cut shorter, cap sleeves shortened and attached, and a bustle. Right away she made me feel comfortable. She knew exactly what needed to be done. She has been doing this for 20 years, previous to owning her business she was at Nordstrom. She took her time, explained everything she was doing and why. For the amount of work it needed I feel her price was extremely reasonable. I'm going back in a few weeks for my first follow up and will update this review Well needless to say this was a project. Much more work than I expected. It would have been easy to ruin this dress due to the material design and amount of inches that needed to come off. Haydee did a stellar job on my dress, she took her time, adjusted in stages, and ended with a perfect fit. She cut a skilled the layers of the bottom, added shoulders that were easily removable for the reception, took it in an insane amount. She basically completely reconstructed this dress to fit me. STAY AWAY FAR AWAY! Customer service is bad, Haydee herself was quite rude, and very un-called for. I came in for a consultation about getting my wedding dress made. I was a little hesitant to come in because she was yelling on the phone with a customer while I was coming in. I came with a picture of what I wanted, she took one look at me, then the picture. She then made me stand in front of a mirror, draped fabric around my bust and waist and told me how it made me appear to have gained 2-4 sized LARGER. She then quoted me for the price, and she charged more than the Designer dress price in stores! I told her I was going to seek my options and let her know if i was going to get my dress made from her or not which she replied, "Please let me know ahead of time, don't wait to the last minute, because i hate that." so rude. I first met Haydee when my sister got married nearly 10 years ago. My sister bought her dress from a sample sale and it needed major alterations. Because of the extensive beading along the bottom, the only way to shorten the dress was to take it apart and shorten it near the bust line, plus it needed to be taken in. Lots of work done beautifully for a great price. Haydee also did the alterations for my bridesmaid dress at that time. Fast forward to my wedding (to take place in 2 weeks!). I have given Haydee a number of things to work on with professional results. Her prices are reasonable and she turns it around in a reasonable amount of time. It was always ready when she said it would be. However, in one case a major alteration was beyond her capabilities. For a major alteration definitely try it on before leaving it with her and make your expectations clear. Overall, she is very good at what she does and I will continue to use Haydee. I was looking for my wedding dress when I found it at a dress designer shop in San Francisco. It was simple and elegant without being big or extravagant, but unfortunately the price was quite extravagant. At first I was quite disappointed before realizing I just needed to find another way to get the dress. I visited Haydee, bringing her printed photos of the dress. She sounded very skilled and confident that she could remake the dress from the pictures. She'd make her own pattern. She recommended a fabric shop to find materials to get started. I brought the fabric samples to her and she helped me select the best color and quality for ease of working with (iron-able so seams would lie flat). I proceeded to supply the fabric and left her with the printed photos; she gave me a receipt with the total for her labor. I paid a portion and left nervous and excited. At this point I was confident she could do what she said based on the photos she showed me of past work, her discussion of how she would cut the fabric to get the desired look, and how organized she was. Through the process, I saw the dress taking form through out the fittings. It turned out gorgeous and just like the photos, except with personal touches and changes she and I discussed as they came up. It fit me perfectly. I never felt rushed through the fittings. Haydee took her time with me. She was also flexible when I needed to reschedule fittings. Haydee is a creative and knowledgeable person. She knew details about how fabrics act, what complements figures, and how to cut fabric to make it fall a certain way. I insisted on trying an external detachable train, which Haydee was doubtful about working, but was willing to try anyway. In the end, she was right, the train didn't flow after the dress as I'd envisioned. This was because of the thin fitting skirt of the dress. It didn't have the body to keep the circular part of the train expanded. I enjoyed each visit to Haydee's shop. Besides being a skilled craftsman, the atmosphere was professional yet relaxed. We often chatted about wedding planning and other things as they came up. After my dress was completed for less then a fifth of the cost of the designer dress, I brought Haydee my engagement dress to alter. It needed to be brought in a bunch since the mermaid style dress didn't have the curves in the same places as my body. Haydee was able to take it in to fit perfectly. My fiance loved both dresses. They are the most gorgeous dresses I've ever owned. I find her prices reasonable and am happy that I can support a local craftsperson. I am always impressed with her skill and friendly demeanor. Most recently, I left her my bridesmaid dress for my sister's upcoming wedding which also is too big for my figure. I hired Haydee to make my wedding dress which was very challenging an complex job. I ended up hiring her because she was up for the challenge, she came across as very experienced and skilled at her craft, she was very enthusiastic and her prices were super reasonable. I came with a picture and she was honest to tell me she would not be able to get it 100% to the way it was in the picture but very close. She also gave very good advise about what worked best with my figure, adornments, shoes, etc.. At the end, the wedding dress cake out beautiful!! Haydee is very passionate about her work and put 100% to deliver on her commitment. She was a pleasure to work with. However, she can get a little overwhelmed and stressed out when she struggles to juggle last minutes request and existing projects- especially around Prom season- this is why I did not give her 5 stars. I would not hesitate to hire her again to make or alter dresses though. She does excellent work. I went to Haydee's for the first time a few days ago on Friday. I needed to do some last minute tapering for my pants and wasn't sure if she had the bandwidth. But I met with her in person, and she agreed to do the job by the following morning for the regular price. What a lifesaver. Other places charged an exorbitant fee for rush services. (But mind, she probably wouldn't have been able to take in my request if it was a bigger project). Haydee tapered the legs perfectly, just the way I had imagined. She's been doing the job for 30 years and the customer in front of me said she's been coming to Haydee's for 15. Said she's the best. I would definitely recommend trying this place. Recently, Haydee altered a bridesmaid dress for me and did a fantastic job. The dress was a a strapless and tea length. I asked her to shorten it to cocktail length and wanted the top to have straps. I asked Haydee her thoughts on the straps because I wanted something more stylish than just simple straight straps. She had a great idea to fan it out across the shoulder and pleat it. It turned out beautifully. She did such a great job it never even looked like the dress was re-done. I cannot express how thankful I am to have had my dress by Haydee. She did my prom dress in such a short amount of time. So basically I last minute decided that I wanted to get my prom dress custom made with my traditional Polynesian tribal material and was scared that I was too late. Haydee was able to deliver my vision and is truly spectacular at what she does. My prom dress was a two piece one. The bottom part (the skirt) consisted of the island material which was given a high waisted mermaid cutout with a beautiful 15" train. For the top I was going to just wear some black longsleeve shirt and have her taylor it to my body, but she suggested that I find a more intricate black material. I went to JoAnn's and got a pretty patterned lace black material and she made a top by hand out of it. The price was totally fair and I was amazed of how everything came together. I was in a serious crunch for a plain satin dress for my daughter's quinceañera. I had been to every single store in the bay area and could not find what we were looking for, a teal, plain, satin dress. A friend recommended Haydee and I am so glad she did. She was honest about the time, the price was SOOO REASONABLE!, and she knows what she is doing. She is certainly spunky, that's the Latina in her, and she seems to be yelling, but she is getting a little hard of hearing. But I will take that in a heartbeat to get the quality and price that she provides. She has great ideas for where to get fabrics and is honest about what to spend your money on and what you can get a cheaper version of. A note, you have to get all the fabric that will be needed. She will tell you exactly what to buy, but you have to go get it and bring it back, so make sure you plan for that. Considering she made this dress from scratch during prom season, she was so reasonable, timely, and fun to spend time with.
