    MI Xao Don Do Bien

First time there. I had the MI Xao Don Do Bien: fried noodles with shrimp, scallops, and squid and a good variety of vegetables in a brown sauce. It was excellent. Even when I finished the large serving, I wished I wasn't so full because I wanted more.

Saigon in Belleville is my favorite restaurant. If you like Chinese or Vietnamese food, you have to check this place out! I've taken everyone I know there at least once, and they've all loved it! I've moved around the United States quite a bit, and always try all the pho I can find, wherever I live. I've had pho in San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Nashville, Charlotte, Denver... I love Asian food in general, but Pho is my perfect meal, and I've had hundreds of bowls in my life. St. Louis is a fun city for a pho lover, it's crazy how many places you can get it. I've had some incredible pho at a couple of places there, but none of them are any better than here. The first time I ever went to Saigon, I almost didn't go in! The strip mall kinda weirded me out. But I did, and when I got inside I found myself in a very clean, nostalgic little Asian restaurant. This is clearly a place that's been taken care of over the years. And the food!!!!!! Saigon's pho completely rivals "the best pho in St. Louis" - places like Nudo House, Mai Lee, Truc Lam, Saigon cafe on Euclid, Pho Long, Dao Tien, and the latest one I tried, DD Mau in Webster Groves. If this place was in St. louis, they would give some of those other places a run for their money. I do enjoy the pho at most of these places, but since discovering the Pho Dac Biet here at Saigon, I feel like my search for the perfect bowl is over. They bring you a huge, comforting bowl of the most deliciously prepared pho. The broth is seasoned to perfection, and tastes like it's been simmering away for hours. There's a perfect amount of noodles and meat in every bowl, and (not pictured) it is served with a very generous amount of fresh pho toppings: jalapeño, basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, and slices of lime. They also bring bottles of hoisin and SRIRACHA (!!) without even being asked. Because I've taken everyone I know here, I've been able to sample things from both the Chinese and Vietnamese menus, and I've been very impressed by every single one: - The spring rolls are absolutely delicious. They're full of fresh, crunchy veggies, and served with THE BEST peanut sauce I've ever had. I dream about this sauce! - The crab rangoon look standard, but taste fresh and exactly the way you want them to taste. An elevated version of a classic. - The beef and broccoli was a huge favorite of the last friend I brought with me. They also raved (for days) about the Bo Lui (beef on a stick,) an appetizer from the Vietnamese menu, which ended up being their favorite part of the meal. This is the longest review I've written for anything in my life, but I love everything about this place. I am in no way affiliated with this restaurant, I'm just a regular girl who lives in Edwardsville and loves good food! Saigon just happens to cross off every single thing I look for, and I don't mind driving an hour each way to get there. I'm not sure this place gets the kind of recognition and credit they deserve. Saigon, chef Ly, thank you for proving such a lovely experience. I look forward to eating your delicious food for many years to come! Please keep pho on the menu!!

Good food. Slow as frog service. Shouldn't take 1.5 hours for lunch. They need to hire more people.

This place did have fresh food, I'll give it that. But, it definitely lacked in aspects that didn't make it amazing or something I'd really suggest unless someone I knew was vegetarian. We were served quickly but definitely felt like the staff had a very "meh" attitude. It's a very specific type of place, mismatched furniture, kind of eclectic. It gives very "lived in vibes". The food itself was okay. The steak dumpling were probably my favorite but I wish there was more options for dipping sauce rather than just chili crisp oil. I ordered the big Thai wrap, and while it was good, I had to ask for extra sauce because the lettuce was just overwhelming, like there was just a giant wad of it thrown in there. The wrap itself is a rice paper so you really can't put it down when you eat it or it just falls apart. But, overall, with extra sauce, rearranging things a bit everything was generally good. Would I go out of my way to go back? Probably not but it's definitely a great place to try for yourself.

When you walk in you are always greeted with a smile. The seating is quite close but not so close you cannot walk through. Tables and booths. Very clean and well kept. Your order can be family style or individual. Family style allows you to share tea and big serving bowls of soups. Now for the good stuff. The menu is varied with authentic or Americanized "Asian" stirfry and egg rolls. The Pho is outstanding! My goodness, the flavors of the broth, with added ingredients from chicken and beef to vegetarian. What brings it home are the side dishes of flavor bombs they serve along side: jalapeños, bean sprouts, and Thai basil. Add it to the soup and the noodles seem to envelope it all with an explosion of flavor as you slurp even to the last drop. And grab those last leaves or noodles with your chopsticks. It's worth every bite. I highly recommend Mai Lee, as it is at the top of our all-time favorites list.

I knew they don't take reservations and won't seat an incomplete party, but I still got there a little early just to see if we could grab a table for five. I was surprised (in a good way) when they seated me before everyone else arrived. I even told the hostess I didn't mind waiting, but she encouraged me to go ahead and sit, which was really nice. Our server was super friendly and made sure I was taken care of while I waited. As my friends started arriving, he was quick to get them settled in too. We started with some non-alcoholic drinks and spent some time chatting before diving into the menu. It was honestly hard to pick just one thing, so I went with both the chicken pho and fried rice. I knew I wouldn't finish it all, but I really wanted both. Once we ordered, everything moved smoothly--our server checked in, made sure drinks were filled, and kept things organized. When the food came out, everything looked amazing and tasted just as good. Of course, with all the catching up we were doing, it took us a while to finish, but there was no rush at all. When we were ready, he brought the checks and was more than happy to split them out (always appreciate that!). Before leaving, I ordered a to-go meal for my husband and asked for a box for my leftovers. Our server actually took my plate and packed everything up in the back, which I wasn't expecting but really appreciated. He also brought out the to-go order right when it was ready. Honestly, everything, from the space to the service to the food, was just great. I'm already looking forward to going back again soon.

Starters for us were a bowl of wonton soup and the spring rolls. Both were good but rolls a little rubbery to me. The highlight of our meals was charbroiled pork. We are not capable of ordering anything else. Ha. I get 15.04 and he got 15.03 which includes an egg roll. Divine food!! The people who own this place are so friendly. Our waiter was also very nice.
