The service is fairly fast. They make the bread in the house and when they run out of bread, they stop selling sandwiches. My husband and I were in the midst of errands in the area, and decided to go to Saigon Breadfast for lunch. San Jose certainly has its share of local banh mi gems, but I jokingly told the staff at the front counter that I'm surprised they haven't opened a location in San Jose to serve the Vietnamese community there, too! Truthfully, I just want them closer to me so I don't have to make the drive. :P I got a large combo of SaiGon's Signature which was the classic cold cut sandwich with Peach Strawberry fruit tea. The first thing that immediately struck me upon first bite was the ASMR-worthy crunch of the baguette with a soft, pillowy chew for the interior. You can tell the bread is made with care, and for me, great banh mi always starts with great bread. The fillings were just as enjoyable. While I thought the protein could have used a touch more seasoning, it didn't take away from the overall quality or experience. This is the flavor profile I still expect from a cold cut sandwich. There was a healthy slathering of pate with just the right amount of pickled vegetables to bring in that brightness to balance it out. I bought a large sandwich with the intention to bring the other half home, but that was a total failure. Both the hubby and I ended up eating our entire sandwiches there! Saigon Breadfast is an unassuming little store that shares a plaza with Walgreens, Nijiya Market, etc. that you could easily miss if you're not looking for it. For food, they have various types of banh mi and some other small appetizers, but they're mostly known for their banh mi. For drinks, there're plenty of options as well, ranging from smoothies to fruit teas to milk teas to matcha varieties. Think mini boba shop that also carries excellent banh mi. Inside decor is cozy, chic, and clean, very much giving a cute coffee shop vibe. My friend and I were super impressed by the food and drinks here! Both our banh mis tasted great - fillings were tasty, good quantity of veggies, solid portion size. As another reviewer mentioned, the bread is done right! But the real showstopper were the drinks. My friend got one of the avocado smoothies - either the Avocado Blend or the Avocado, I'm not sure? - and it was AMAZING. Creamy, not too rich, not too sweet, SO yum. It'd be worth it to come back just for that. I opted for a strawberry peach fruit tea with lychee jelly, and it hit the spot, exactly what you would expect. Staff were friendly and helpful! They let us stay past closing time to finish our food and conversations while they were cleaning up, which we felt bad about but they were so gracious and made us feel comfortable. I was telling my roommate about this place after getting home and it turns out that it's also her go-to banh mi place! What a gem of a find. Can't wait to come again! Parking at the Mountain View Shopping Center is plentiful. I went there for a take home Banh Mi on an early Tuesday evening. I was the only customer there and I ordered the 6. Saigon's Signature from the menu board at the pay counter. Which was ready quickly. The interior has a few tables and a long bench and table for dining. It's new, modern and clean. The menu is mostly Banh Mi sandwiches and sweet drinks. My sandwich was well constructed with bread with a crunchy crust and soft inside, generous amounts of protein, fresh pickles and crunchy cucumber slices. There was nothing memorable about the flavor profile, probably to make it suitable for the American sub sandwich palate. My smaller size was very filling and I saved half for later. I am not a fan of sandwiches in general but their Banh Mi is good so give them a try. May repeat. read more

Saigon Breadfast seriously surprised me. This is easily one of the best banh mi spots in the Bay Area and honestly I'd put it above a lot of places in SoCal too. My wife is from Vietnam and she approved, which says everything. The bread is the star. Fresh baked, pillowy soft on the inside with a light crunch on the outside. It does not shred your mouth like some places do. It's actually very close to what you get in Vietnam, which is rare out here. The pork is fragrant and clean tasting, not gamy at all. You can tell they care about quality. The overall sandwich just hits right. Only a couple things to improve. The pate was a bit runny and the grilled pork didn't really taste grilled, more like it was cooked on a flat top. Fix that and this place is top tier across the board. So good! If you're looking an authentic and delicious banh mi, look no further. We got the small Sardine and Saigon Signature banh mi's and they were the perfect size. I got really excited when I saw Sardine on the menu because a lot of banh mi places don't offer this option. We also got the Avocado smoothie and the Vietnamese Milk Coffee! Both were very good! The Vietnamese coffee was very strong and not too sweet - just the way I like it. I like that the banh mis come with all the fillings - at other banh mi shops you sometimes have to ask for the pickled radish and carrots and this makes it less accessible for people who have never tried banh mi! I dropped by for lunch around 1:45, and it wasn't too busy. I got the meal deal with #7 Vegetarian Sandwich and a Strawberry Lychee drink. I asked the person at the front to confirm that there aren't any non-vegan ingredients in the sandwich. The menu shows tofu, cilantro, vinegar carrot, vinegar radish, cucumber, jalapeños, and soy bean sauce, so it doesn't seem non-vegan, but I wanted to be sure. She seemed confused about what vegan means, so I explained that we don't consume dairy, eggs, or any other animal products, and she confirmed it would be fine. So, I ordered it without cilantro. The sandwich was pretty big for a size small. The bread was crusty and it had a lot of tofu and carrots. The tofu was very wet, like there was a puddle of liquid that dripped from the sandwich. I wish it had been more veggie-focused, like I was craving more cucumber, radish, and maybe even mushrooms. The drink was good, it had two pieces of lychee fruit, which I loved. I ordered 25% sweetness, but it was sweeter than expected. I would order it again but ask for 0% sweetness if possible. The banh mi is good for the peninsula but not as good as the stops in San Jose. We tried both the Saigon special which is the cold cut and the grilled pork and the Vietnamese coffee. The cold cut was good, fresh, and the meats had a stronger essence of five spice probably more than I'm used to. Good but different. The grilled pork was missing the char essence that you get from the San jose shops. It was okay. The pickled veggies could use more tang, but the bread was perfect. It was soft but crunchy and not too bready or heavy! The coffee was pricy at $7ish but strong! You can order from the kiosk and wait. Plenty of seating and clean inside. Im supper glad that finally a legit banh mi spot is open in the area. Ambiance is nice and clean with lots of tables, cute decor. Staff is friendly and welcoming. The banh mi and all drinks are so bombbbb. The combo deal is such a steal because banh mi are loaded and drinks are even better than some branded boba shops. PSA: the #8 is "SEASONING" pork belly aka the reddish saigon jambon in the banh mi, not "ROASTED" or heo quay. Keep that in mind when you order. This is a new Banh Mi spot in Mountain View. In general, spots such as these do not survive or do well. It might be due to their pricing being a bit high compared to what you can get in San Jose. However, we're in Mountain View and I am hoping they do well. Their #8 sandwich was both filling and good tasting. Mind you, I did order the large version. Their grilled pork was pretty good, and I also liked their beef, except that it wasn't what I expected at all. The beef had some sort of an orange, beef stew-like sauce?? so it was more of a wet sandwich than I expected. My main critique is that there aren't enough pickled vegetables. So happy that they finally opened! Saw this relatively new place on our way to groceries and decided to give it a try! They specialized in Vietnames coffees, banh mihs and pate chauds. They had lots of sweet coffee options but we decided to only focus on food today. We got their large special banh mih and a pate chaud. Even though we got it to go, we decided to sit down as they had a small area for eating in. The pate chaud was nicely packed and was warm when they brought it out. It wasn't greasy and tasted fresh and appetizing. Their banh mih was our favourite - it came out warm and the bread tasted fresh. The butter they used, along with the hams and meats, were a great pairing. My boyfriend even said it was the first banh mih he actually liked in the Bay Area! I was on a banh mi kick today and saw that this place had recently opened up. The bread is soooo good. Perfectly crispy on the outside but not too hard, and soft and pillowy on the inside. So excited to have a new banh mi spot to take my lunch breaks in Mountain View! At the time of writing this, they had been open for a few days. The interior is super cute and cozy with lots of natural touches. I love the little moped and bread display corner, it gives me the feeling of grabbing a morning baguette at a market in Vietnam! I can definitely see myself catching up with friends here or enjoying a coffee while getting some work done. The staff are pleasant and patient, and my order came out in less than 10 minutes. I got a small Saigon's Signature, which was actually much larger than I was expecting, and it really satisfied the banh mi craving. The bread is crispy and thin, softened by yummy layers of pate and butter (more on the american mayo side than viet mayo) and generous portions of pork roll, ham, and steamed pork belly. The daikon tasted a little more pickled than what I'm used to but I really enjoyed it! Also tried the Egg Foam coffee and she was STRONG. Slightly more on the bitter side but I'm sure that's easily adjustable if you want it more sweet. I've never had egg foam before and I'm glad I tried it here because it was delicious, very creamy and perfectly sweet. Overall, I really enjoyed Saigon Breadfast and even happier about the fact that I won't (always) need to drive all the way to San Jose for good banh mi anymore. A decent banh mi place and great addition to the peninsula. I used to live in Milpitas and definitely miss the proximity to fresh, authentic, cheap banh mi. I came here on a weekend with a few friends after a hike. We were able to take advantage of their buy 4 get 1 free deal, so large sandwiches came out to about $10 each. We ended up all ordering the combination. It took some time for the sandwiches to be ready (~20 minutes). The sandwiches are packaged nicely with the regular paper wrapping plus an extra paper bag on the outside, so they should travel well without making a mess. However we were eating there, and they have a decent number of tables available inside and right outside the storefront. Flavor-wise, the sandwich was okay. The portion of meat is generous, but I wish there were more veggies (cilantro, cucumber, jalapenos), and the pickled veggies had some more sweetness. The meat was also a bit too cold, like it had come out of the fridge recently, which kind of threw off the sandwich. The pate could also be a bit richer or more umami. Bread was quite tasty and fresh. Overall it was fair in terms of flavor, but the portion made up for it. First thing you see when you walk in is their cute mural and photo back drop! You can either order at the front or on the kiosk. Service was quick and my snacks/drinks came out in less than 7 min. I ordered the patechaud, the coconut cloud coffee, and the white Vietnamese coffee. You can customize the sweetness, ice level, and type of milk in your drink. I usually like my coffees more creamy and sweet so that's what I asked for. Their drinks were good but I wish the coconut cloud had more of a coconut taste to it. It was very subtle. Rounding up, as they are a new business and I've only tried their banh mi once. My partner and I split a BBQ pork banh mi and the classic Vietnamese cold cut sandwich with pate. Omg. Finally a good banh mi place on the (mid/lower) peninsula! As a Vietnamese girlie I am VERY pleased with how tasty, friendly and well-priced Saigon Breadfast is. The pate is very authentic and delicious. The bread is perfection; not too much "filling" so that the banh mi fillings--generous portions of meat, crisp and fresh veggies--can really shine. And the bread exterior provides a nice crunch without tearing up the roof your mouth. Got the special and seasoned pork belly and both were great.
