You never know what it is that day and it's like a game for us to see what we get. Our favorite is the tomato egg side but I am never disappointed by any of them. Our hands down favorite is the grilled chicken cutlet bento. I suppose grilled is a little misleading, it has a light crisp to it and it's marinated in some sort of tangy slightly spicy sauce. Sometimes I get an extra side of grilled chicken so baby bear can get extra protein. The bento boxes were the star of the show! I can't get over how much food was in a single bento box - one bento could easily last you two meals. The popcorn chicken was fried to perfection and covered in fragrant spices. The accompanying sides were also delicious! I really enjoyed the grilled chicken. It honestly seemed more fried than grilled, but it was tasty nonetheless. The grilled chicken portion was somehow even bigger than that of the popcorn chicken. There were two huge pieces of grilled chicken, all covered in a sweet and tangy marinade. The golden kimchi paired well with the bentos and cut through the richness of the meat. When I bit into my first O2 Valley popcorn chicken, I was amazed by how juicy the meat was given how crispy the exterior was. The chicken katsu in the bento was equally succulent. Paired with garlicky broccoli, braised egg, and a generous portion of rice, the food was amazing given the price point. One bento could likely feed two people - that's called a great deal. The interior of the store had relaxing plant motifs, including a mossy panel on the wall. Why the store is called O2 Valley is not clear to me but the refreshing, nature-y aesthetic was very relaxing to dine in. Tried O2 Valley and really enjoyed it! I had their garlic popcorn chicken and loved how much garlic they put on it. So crispy and flavorful and it really hit the spot. I also liked that you can serve yourself dipping sauces which makes it fun to mix and match. It is a nice place to chill and hang out. I appreciate that they have vegetarian options, but I wish they were executed better. When you compare the veg and the non-veg bento, they flip which compartment they put the rice vs the protein. Veg has significantly more rice and less protein because of that. Also, they side dishes vary depending on the day, but sometimes veg bentos get different sides if there's meat in what they prepare. A lot of the times one of the sides is one piece of sushi and a small egg roll which makes the whole meal very carb heavy. One time I ordered three cup tofu and my sides were tomato egg and 豆乾 (pressed tofu), so I felt like my meal very much lacked variety. I hope they consider this more in the future and try to include vegetables and less carbs. Other than the bento, I've also had their oyster mushroom curry and sesame cold noodles (removed the meat). I quite enjoyed the cold noodles, but I wasn't a huge fan of the curry. The mushrooms were soggy and the breading became a gummy like texture. Curry was very average. Their golden kimchi is pretty good but I wouldn't be able to eat a lot of once because the taste is pretty strong. I've also had their sweet potato balls which I think is worth a try if you've never had them before. However, they're more dense than I'd expect. Mushroom curry: 2/5 Three cup tofu bento: 2/5 Sesame cold noodles: 4/5 Sweet potato balls: 4/5 I have a lot to say but I have ordered here quite a few times because my family enjoys it here. During a recent visit to Santana Row, my wife and I stopped by O2 Valley beforehand to grab a quick lunch. We showed up roughly 30 minutes after they had opened and as expected, the restaurant was very empty. Ordering is done via the QR code on the table or in person at the register. Between the two of us, we shared a chicken cutlet bento and a side of Taiwanese sausage. Food here is quick to come out of the kitchen. After we ordered, it was no more than 10 minutes before we had received our food. Biting into the chicken cutlet, I was instantly transported back to Taiwan. The fried chicken here is on par with some of the best ones that I've had at a Taiwanese night market. The outside breading has the perfect texture, the seasoning is fantastic, and the chicken itself is super moist and tender. All without tasting oily. If you want to add more spice, there's additional popcorn chicken seasoning on the table you can add to your heart's content. The Taiwanese sausage was sweet and savory, and I liked the raw sliced garlic pieces that are served with it. I wish they had plastic knives available at the table, as it was hard to split the sausage otherwise. If you want an authentic Taiwanese bento, O2 Valley delivers some of the best. The Bento's here are great value for money! For $16, you get so much of the protein you order, the right portion of rice, a bonus protein side (chicken, tofu), an egg and some veggies like broccoli. Makes for a pretty filling meal. I've gotten the grilled chicken cutlet bento on repeat a few times now and I love this. It's heavily breaded, I actually wouldn't mind it being lighter. But it's not supposed to be 'fried', feels similar nevertheless. I opt for spicy although the spice level is a bit on and off, one time it was spicy (like I wanted it) and another time I could not feel much of the spice/spicy sauce. They do have a spice powder/rub on the table though. And also a garlic powder. I'm generally able to finish it in one meal but it might be too much for some. I've also tried the basil chicken bento in the past and wouldn't rate that 5/5, probably a 4/5. I like the bento lite version with the curry too, it's pretty nice and priced lower with great portions of chicken (popcorn) as well, which is heavily breaded too. I'm yet to try the grilled chicken bites, I'll plan to try that next time. My friend is a fan of the beef shank bento, also pictured. The order is super quick to come out, like within 5 minutes. I actually think it rivals and does some things better than San Gabriel Valley Taiwanese restaurants. One thing to note is that their grilled chicken is not actually grilled, it's fried and then they put a sauce that tastes a little like Korean fried chicken sauce on it. For me this was the least Taiwanese tasting but someone else might really like that combo. On my last visit, I tried the milk tea here with "fresh milk": tea taste was rather weak and I didn't taste any difference between the "fresh milk" and the milk product that is the default. It's definitely low-fat or fat-free milk. I probably would not get it again. I also got my usual, the chicken cutlet bento: still very good. This time the sudes were (1) a cabbage and broccoli (good) and (2) cauliflower (ivercooked and too soft for me). I went around 4:30 in the afternoon and it was not very busy or crowded at all.
