A while ago I left a pretty good review. I come here every couple months because it is a 1.5 hour drive to any other pho restaurant. So, if you live in the area this is the place to go for Asian food. However, I came here yesterday (12APR) and I my experience with the pho wasn't as great as it has been. I usually love their pho because it has pretty good flavor for the price and close proximity. Keep in mind if you are a pho lover, that this place will probably only be about midway in your list. But since it is much shorter than a drive to Austin or Fort Worth I would say it is worthwhile. However the Saigon egg rolls are pretty awesome. I still think these are up there in my top 5 places for egg / spring rolls. read more

I have to say Saigon Cafe is now the best place to go for Chinese in Temple. My wife and I have been 4 or 5 times now. Highly recommended are the sesame chicken and any of the fried rice combinations. Always quick and hospitable service, for a great price. The egg drop soup is hit or miss, but for food, we haven't gone wrong thus far. If you live around here, you know good good options are limited. For Chinese, make it Saigon Cafe. read more

Very nice place, and unexpected surprise found in Temple! There is a wide range of Asian cuisines on the menu. The restaurant is in a good location off the highway in Temple. Everything we had was amazingly good! Server Chris was exceptionally friendly and attentive. They even let us bring our tiny service dog. Not fancy enough for "5 stars," but a very good example of what it is - a delicious, affordable local establishment providing a wide variety of good dishes in a low-key setting. I tried their Mala lunch special today and got a smile from the young server who spontaneously said, "Really? That's my favorite!" It did not disappoint with assorted meats, 3 plump shrimp, juicy peppers and sweet onions, all deliciously highlighted by a fantastic, slightly hot blanket of garlic, chili, and ginger. This review is long overdue. I have been a diner at this location for several years and this is the sum of all of those experiences. I have decided to give it 3 stars, and by the end of this review, you'll know why. I'll begin with the front of house experience that you should expect to receive upon walking in. I'm always readily greeted by a host who promptly sits me down and grabs my drink order. This experience has never deviated and the staff has always been friendly with me. The entire café is cozy and dimly-lit; perfect for an evening with the misses. There's an assortment of Asian alcohol bottles on display toward the back. Perplexingly, I don't recall seeing any alcohol on the menu, though it looks like beer was offered at some point, based on the photos on Yelp. Perhaps this was a victim of COVID-19 restructure? Who knows. In any case, beer, wine and strong spirits, would pair incredibly well with this laid-back atmosphere. The appetizers have been consistently good here, with the exception of today. The egg rolls were forgotten by the waitress who brought them out after I was served my main entrée. I had to bring them up to her, and she in a matter-of-fact way, stated that the kitchen should have had them ready by now and went off to check. Within a minute I had them. I could see the grease glistening on the hardened, crip skin of the egg rolls, and what looked like oil pooling inside their cratered surfaces. Holding them in my hand proved a problem, as I didn't want to risk the grease on fingers getting on my shirt or shorts, so I used my fork for the rest of the experience. The sweet and sour sauce had the right consistency but the flavor was like a warm, wet paper towel on the tongue. I tasted a hint of sweet, but no sourness at all. Bland. It could have passed for a thin rice paper glue. Nearly every experience that I've ever had with egg drop soup at various restaurants over the years have left me with the impression that either no one cares that their soup tastes like a bowl of salt, or no one cares that they left a little cleaning solution at the bottom of the pot. Luckily, Saigon Café does not fall within either of these extremes, and even gets it right on the money most days. Today was not one of those days. The cook in charge of the soup may have been the same one in charge of the sweet and sour sauce, because it was, again, bland. The soup was certainly fresh and a beautiful soft yellow color, but it lacked salt. Someone put some real work into it but all that effort was wasted. With a pinch or two of more salt, and small cuts of spring onion, this dish would have been perfect, honestly. The main course was the Special Lo Mein, a Chinese dish with small flat noodles, shrimp, chicken and beef with sliced carrots and spring onion. The beef was tough to bite into and chew, the chicken was flavorless, but the shrimp was quite nice. Overall, very inconsistent quality between the proteins. There was a distinct MSG flavor present (a naturally-occurring flavor enhancer for animal protein dishes, similar to salt. It's very nearly the essence of savoury, and despite the rumor that it's bad for you, it really isn't. There are plenty of recent studies to read over this). Usually, this is a welcome ingredient in any Chinese dish. However, I believe the cook went overboard with the MSG this time as it kept the vegetable flavors from shining through and all I could taste the lack-luster flavor of the meat coating the inside of my mouth for over an hour. This entrée was a pretty big mess. This was similar to the experience that I had with the Pad Thai there recently as well. For all the criticism that I've given them over their noodle dishes, I can say that the Vietnamese Bun dishes (white Vermicelli noodles served with charcoal-grilled beef on top of a nice bed of lettuce and a generous side of fish sauce), are excellent here! Their Chinese meat dishes with a focus on a single protein are quite good as well, like their Orange Chicken, or General Tso's Chicken. So I have to give them credit there. My experience was coming to an end when my waitress, whose name I don't recall, got my bill for me as she said she was going on break. I finished and the hostess came and rang me out for the meal and I was on my way. If there is one word that I can sum up for this location, it's 'inconsistent'. I've had too many good experiences to say it's poor quality food, but the bad experiences make me yearn for a better selection of Chinese restaurants in the Temple area. Because no restaurant truly stands out to me. When going into a restaurant that offers a regional cuisine, you expect the culture to have a fair representation. The meal should play like a beautiful ballad on the plate. Not sit and gawk at you like a dead fish. read more

This place stays pretty crowded (especially around lunch time) and the food is good for the price. I've had the Vietnamese cuisine both times that I was here and it was pretty good. It's more like Vietnam via Texas (not completely authentic), but close enough. I had enough food to eat for two meals and get full. My favorite Asian Chinese food delivery. Best in Temple, well it's the only now l, but even before then it was my go to. Fast delivery, hot and fresh. It's very seldom they forget something, but one time they did. I didn't bother messing with them to get it right. After all I would have had to go pick it up, and it's not a deal breaker to leave my crispy crackers for my egg drop out, but I do not like it without it. Still they are my go to. read more

Very good food. Big variety. I got the pork vermicelli bowl and it was delicious. The pork was really good. The rest was pretty good. The fish sauce was on the light side. Good egg rolls. The Chinese food looked really good too. My only problem was that they miscounted my change by several dollars to my loss (and different cents too, so it's not like they just forgot some bills). :-( read more

Very good food. They don't have a buffet but they do have lunch specials. I thought their soups were great and both of our meals were great. I got shrimp with vegetables and my daughter got the Peking fish. She loved it and she's 13. I thought it was pretty good too. The service was great and the food was out really quickly. read more

I found myself a tad skeptical when I first visited Saigon Cafe back when it first opened. This building was notorious for having restaurants come and go within their first years, but so far, Saigon looks like it's here to stay. Upon entering, you're immediately grabbed buy a warm environment. The staff are quick to seat you and take your drink orders. Their menu has so many options, the hardest decision is to figure out what you want to get. I've truly stuck in my ways in this restaurant. I always stick with the Spring Rolls for my appetizer, Pho for my main course, and their cheesecake for desert. The food is reasonably priced, and you get great service. Dinner is usually the time to go, because people are so anxious to get home after a long day at the office. I pretty much have my own parking spot at this point (since I'm there so often) I highly recommend this establishment to anyone interested in trying a new place. read more

I spotted Saigon Cafe as I was hurrying to a meeting in Temple. Hungry for a good bowl of pho, I stopped by after my meeting and am so glad I did. I had an order of spring rolls and a bowl of beef tenderloin pho and both were comparable to what I enjoyed so much at my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Houston. Food 2.5/5 I ordered the rice with pork chop and hubby ordered rice with thr chicken. Food is okay. Pork chop has decent flavor but was dry. The chicken was on the dry side as well and the flavor was ok... Something my mom makes better at home. But this is coming from someone who lived in Houston for 10 years. Water is tap water and has a horrible after taste. We did not drink the water and had to get our own bottled water from our car. Service 5/5 Waitress was very attentive. Good service Will I be back? My wife and I had lunch here for The first time and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The prices were affordable and the portions were generous. Our Tea glasses never went below half way. We were constantly checked on and even the cook came out to ask if everything was good. I had the crispy duck... half a duck for just 12.95! My wife had a seafood dish and both were delicious! Same story as the person before where Pho 7 was closed. So we stumbled upon Saigon and saw all the stars rating it high so we decided to give it a try. Saigon has really good food, too. We will definitely go back for the Chinese and go back to Pho 7 for their delicious Pho. Both places have great service and good atmosphere. So glad to know about both of these places and so close together. read more

Sadly, we discovered a bug in our food tonight. We had the food delivered, so I called to inform the manager. The driver was sent back out to pick it up. I offered to send a picture of the insect, so the driver did not have to come back out. The driver comes to pick up the food and called me a liar as he ran off to the car. He actually ran to his car yelling that I was a liar. After offering to show him the bug on the plate or send a picture of it. I am so upset. I was just expecting an apology and credit for the food, since we could not eat it. When the driver called me back he stated that he didn't know what I meant we found the bug after eating some of the food. Even if there was a misunderstanding, there is no need to yell at a customer and call them a liar. I would just make a note on their account for future reference to make sure they are not taking advantage of us and try to solve the problem. read more

Ordered a BV6 (vermicelli with charcoal grilled lemon grass beef and fried egg roll) with an iced grass jelly drink (with honey). From the time I placed my order to when I received it only took about 5mins. I loved the charcoal grilled beef.
