The food was awesome and the service was excellent. We ordered the Pho and some rolls, and both had great flavor. Nancy was our waitress and she really went above and beyond to service us. They also had the winter Olympics showing which was nice to watch while waiting for the food. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they really do need more personnel to help the many customers they have. Stopped by for dinner and the food came out pretty fast. The pho here is mediocre. The service, very disappointing and unprofessional. The waitress had to wipe out table because it was dirty, even though there was no dishes on it. Once we were seated, the table was really wet. We had to ask for napkins and we dried our own table. While eating our dinner, the staff here was very, very, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. They were slapping each other's booty in front of customers! (yes, I mean butts! Buttocks!!) And they were laughing and goofing around. Jumping and messing around behind the register as well. It made all the customers feel very awkward. And they are the ones serving us our food? This review is for their well cooked beef pho. I went in on Sunday and ordered a regular sized pho to go. While the portion was decent for a regular, the soup itself was pretty bad. Out of all the Pho places I've tried, this is the most decent. Of course Santa Barbara doesn't have the best Asian restaurants (or that many for the matter), but this place definitely tastes like pretty much any other (good) Pho restaurant I've been to. The service is a bit slower than I'm used to (I'm used to having the Pho come out so fast that the appetizers come later), but overall the staff is very friendly and attentive. The food is consistently great, the service is consistently bad. If the service was up to par, this would be a 5 star review. They either need to hire better servers, more servers, or have management to train, direct, and improve the service. I am not expecting the best service in the world, but we have gone in and sat down, and left after 10 minutes of not even being acknowledged. It's a pretty big restaurant with a ton of tables, but it didn't seem like many of them are ever used.... The pho we got was pretty below average. First of all, it came out super fast- TOO fast. Before our drinks, even. (Read: sitting there waiting for you to order it, preprepared.) The noodles were all in one giant ball in the bowl, and tasted like bamboo, as if the giant ball was kept warm in one of those bamboo steamer basket things. Gross. The broth didn't really have any flavor, and neither did our add-ins. My shrimp were way too soft and a little suspicious, with no shrimpy flavor at all. My fiance's beef had no beefy flavor either, apparently. They gave us a plate of bean sprouts, basil, a lime wedge, and some spicy peppers, but nothing helped the soup be any good. Maybe if you are a sauce-topping wizard and can combine all the table-accompaniments to make your own new dish it would be decent. But...that's not why I go out to eat at a restaurant. On top of all this, the girls working there were more occupied sitting at another booth chatting with friends that visited than paying attention to us, even though I made eye contact with one as we waited for the check and for our plates to be cleared. In Santa Barbara, there isn't too much choice when it comes to seeking some legitimate Vietnamese cooking. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews from Saigon Noodle House, but my experience from the other evening was satisfactory. Perhaps it was because I haven't had phó in the longest time, but this restaurant certainly made me crave the dish once more. Unlike Noodle City off of Hollister, Saigon Noodle boasts an deceivingly large dining space, designed very classically like your go-to Vietnamese restaurant: red leather booths, large flatscreen with sports on, bamboo assorted throughout the restaurant, etc. And while astonishingly empty (had me worried for a moment), their phó (#6 Large) was fantastic. The broth was wholesome and they were very generous with the varying meats. I eat here about once a week. A great pho place for Goleta/SB area. Nothing compared to the bay, but very enjoyable. I always get the pho tom (shrimp) or pho w/o any meat. My friend always gets the pho ga (chicken). We like our soup spicy so we put lots of Chile paste. Sometimes you get cilantro and other times you don't, I wish they were more consistent with this because I love putting it in my soup. Overall the service is quick and the soup is filling. I've only had Pho Tai here, and their pho pretty decent. I do admit that compared to other pho places I've been to, their pricing is kinda high and they're making quite a profit on their noodle soups. However, it's not a deal breaker. The sprouts aren't as fresh as other places and the broth isn't very strong, but it's not the worst I've ever had. I think I only come here because it's in close proximity to where I stay when I'm in SB. Otherwise, I'd probably be somewhere else. I'm surprised by the bad reviews. This is the spot where I first tried pho. I think it's great, everything from the pho to the thai iced tea and the desserts. I have tried to find a place in LA that matches up to this place but I have yet to find it. Went here tonight. The pho isn't out of this world, but what do you expect for a place that is so close to campus? Yes, Noodle City is better. But what I did like about Saigon Noodle House is that the service was excellent. I could tell the waitresses (who were all cute, coincidentally) were really working hard on the customer service end. I actually heard one waitress explaining the menu and specials to a family. I've never heard of such a thing happening at a Vietnamese restaurant! Although the service was excellent, the food was terrible and overpriced. I ordered the fresh spring rolls, which were rolled too loosely and fell apart in my peanut sauce. I also ordered the chicken with rice plate (com ga nuong), which is my go to dish for vietnamese places. However, this was nothing like what I have had at every single other pho noodle house I have ever been to. The rice was dry and had some wilted spring onions on top, which looked like they had been sitting around for a while. The chicken had no sauce or flavoring, and was stir fried with onions and red bell peppers. It was terrible. I stopped eating when I bit into a whole clove of garlic. The broth that they served me had tofu in it, which I didn't like. When I tried the broth, it was bland and watery. In addition, the Vietnamese couple seated next to me tried to order an item pictured on the menu, and were told that they don't make that dish, it was just a picture. Why would you have pictures on the menu of food you don't serve? For the amount of money I paid, this place was not worth it. read more

This was the only pho place open today ('cause it was Sunday), so my friend decided to try it out. Their menu looked really appetizing, despite the higher-than-normal prices for Santa Barbara. We ordered some appetizers, and those came out fairly soon, but our pho order never got put in, so we waited almost 35 minutes for nothing. The waitresses were really nice, but they don't seem to be the most focused and didn't bother to check in with us. The manager (I believe) ended up giving us the appetizers for free, which was nice, but I've never gotten this terrible of service before. The restaurant has a lot of tables so I don't imagine there ever being a long wait here. We got seated as soon as one of the servers noticed us. I ordered the pho with the variety of meat (I forgot what number it was but it has tendon, flank, steak, tripe and all) and it was decent. The soup was okay but the meat could have been a lot better. The portions are decent but probably not enough for most people. Me and my boyfriend occasionally get takeout from here and each time was a glorious experience. Last night, I ordered the Pho soup with Tai, Nam, and Gan which is the rare steak, well-done flank and tendon. It was very delicious! In the takeout containers, everything was packed neatly and the soup base was very hot! The broth itself is so good that you don't need Sriracha or Hoisin sauce to get it to the way you want, unless you prefer it that way. My boyfriend had the Pho as well and we couldn't stop eating our meals. We were both full and happy and took a nice nap together. Lol It was truly a great night. Eating great, authentic Vietnamese cuisine and being content afterwards. We'll definitely keep supporting this place in the future! If you don't call ahead they would take approximately 15 minutes to get your food ready, the longest I have ever waited was 20 minutes. Reasonably priced and above average vietnamese food is exactly that, nothing more and nothing less. I've been coming here since I've been living in Santa Barbara for the past 5 years and I've rarely been disappointed by the service or quality of food. I prefer the bun dishes as well as the com dia. I have s few friends that enjoy the pho but the absolute winner here are the egg rolls. Though they're very overpriced to order separately, make sure you get them included with whatever meal option you go with. I recommend the beef and pork options for your meat choices as the chicken tends to be less than stellar.
