The last time I was here was 3 years ago. But from what I remember, I really didn't like the restaurant. The broth was watery, service wasn't up to par, and it just didn't feel right (you know the feeling when you go into a pho restaurant). I had the Bun Cha Gio, and it was pretty good. It had what I wanted with the fresh vegetables and fish sauce. I'm not sure if it had picked up from the last time I was there or if I had gotten something different. I'm not from Goleta, was just visiting a relative who goes to UCSB. We decided that we wanted asian but since the restaurant options in Goleta, we gave this place a chance. I ordered the Pho, parents ordered the Vermicelli, and my brother got a veggie rice dish. As far as the pho, it was not flavorful at all. The broth was watery and the noodles were overcooked. I was not impressed at all. I think this place only has customers since it's close to the campus. The service was also a tad slow. The tables were sticky. Awesome Pho. Awesome Bun. I highly recommend the 21 with Pork. It comes with seriously tasty egg rolls in the bowl. I love it spicy as hell. Pour half the bottle of sriracha on it. Take that small bowl of liquid you are given (I actually have no idea what that is) and pour it all over your Bun, forcing the sriracha into the deeper recesses of the bowl. Now grab your white person spoon and some chopsticks and eat the hell out of that bowl. Don't stop unless you need a swig of Chang or water. Pay your bill, go home and bask in your spot on the couch while being fat and lazy. read more

Sending someone to eat here if they're looking for Vietnamese food is like telling someone to go a can of Chef Boyardee if they're looking for some Italian food. You just tell them that Vietnamese food doesn't exist in Santa Barbara and if it did, Saigon Noodle House is the armpit of that so-called Vietnamese food. Even if I wasn't a Viet from San Jose, it doesn't take one to realize that this place doesn't serve much better pho than the instant kind. Despite numerous owners over the year, the only thing that has changed is the place getting cleaner and the food alternating between crappy and really crappy. The pho lacks the beefy flavor and herbal notes, with extra MSG to compensate and the noodles are always overcooked. The meat is lacking and consistently past its sell by date. As for the bun thit nuong, the vermicelli is starchy and overdone, and what they consider the grilled pork seems to be a mesh of undercooked pork lacking any sort of seasoning. The thai iced tea has little tea and lots of milk, while the Vietnamese iced coffee (ca phe sua da) is weak and obviously brewed hours earlier. Santa Barbara may be lacking in Asian restaurants as a whole, but Saigon Noodle House takes it to a new low. read more

I didn't have a bad experience. The service was quick. And my food came out maybe 3 minutes after ordering. Probably because I ordered a soup. The noodles have flavor as well as the whole soup. Very home like feeling of a soup. Came in for lunch and service was excellent. I'll probably be coming back. They are a small joint so nothing that I would come for a night out. Really good! I love coming here, especially if I have a cold the pho defiantly helps to sweat it out. The service is casual but speedy. The workers are friendly and pleasant. The furniture is slightly old, but kept clean. All of the condiments were filled and cleaned when I sat down, at other noodle houses there aren't enough sauces at the table or they are old and dirty looking. Getting right to the point, this is the worst pho I have ever had. The broth (if you can even call it that) was extremely lacking. It's as if they just threw the meat in with the water as an afterthought and ta-da, that's their "broth". It was bland, tasteless, and tasted like meat water. It tasted NOTHING like pho. It's a small portion size for what you're paying ($8 for a regular?!) and what you get is not worth the price. The noodles stuck together and the only time I've ever had that is if I'm ordering take-out pho and I throw in the noodles myself afterwards. They were far too chewy and definitely did not taste fresh. If the broth was served hot enough, they would have parted just fine. But the pho I received was a little above warm at best. The meat tasted fine but the lack of taste from the broth completely ruined the experience. The service itself was surprisingly great, as my group received a good amount of attention from the waitresses and food was brought fairly quickly. I don't know if this was just an off day (I came on September 3rd, sometime during 3 P.M), but the pho is far from delicious as some of these reviews claim. I'm from the SGV where Asian food is everywhere and while I may be a little more biased because of that, I am by no means a pho expert. Not impressed. I've never left a pho restaurant without eating all of my meal. I had the rare beef and tendon - the tendon was so overcooked it was like rubber. The biggest mistake in preparing Pho is to serve it warm and not hot. They prepare all the noodles ahead of time, which is not the problem. The noodle get cold pretty fast. If the soap is not hot enough, you get warm Pho, which is terrible. One way to fix it is to put the noodle in the boiling soap to warm it up, put it back in the bowl and add hot soap. I ordered the 1st item on the Pho list, I think it was #7. The beef was very very tough. They probably used round steak and they don't know how to fix them to get it tender. The service was bad. It is the fault of management. The waitress were not properly trained. They all failed to do the basic task- do not go back to the kitchen empty handed. Pick up some dishes on your way back. We order Pho, finished it and we ordered egg rolls, the waitress took the order and left without taking any dirty bowl and dishes back to the kitchen. She brought the egg rolls, place it in the middle of the dirty dishes without taking them back. It was my first time here and it was a bad experience. Food was bad and service was bad. The combination was terrible. I was a Chinese chef for 4 years while I was in college working in my family's restaurant. I know what is good Asian food. It was probably the worst Pho I've ever tried. I have been by this restaurant many times and thought i would give it a try today. What a mistake. I ordered the large combination PHO. After preparing it how I like it and tasting the broth and noodles I tasted the beef. It was so tough and tenuous I couldn'tchew it enough to swallow. I tried another couple of peices and had to spit it into a napkin. The tendon was also hard a chewy, not soft and gelatonous as it should be. I finally gave up on the food and told my waitress it was inedible. She said there had been no other complaints and couldn't understand what was wrong. She left and cameback with my check at which time she informed me she took 20% off my total. I was in no mood to argue so I gave her the money and left - NEVER TO RETURN AGAIN. Let me start by saying if your a new Target shopper you MUST stop and eat at Saigon. I have a high gluten intolerance which always makes me uneasy about eating out because I'm scared of getting sick. I was reassured but this amazing waitress Nancy who told me the rice noodles were gluten free! Hallelujah!! I can eat noodles!!! Not only was the Pho delicious but the service was impeccable. this was the first pho restaurant I ate at coming to Santa Barbara. it's a lot closer to campus, also conveniently located next to K-Mart. the service was so slow and bad. I was sitting there for at least 10 mins before someone came and asked me if I wanted something to drink, and sort of rushing me to order. I came there when it was pretty busy, being the first weekend back and all, so I thought that was why the service was sooo slow. BOY WAS I WRONG! no matter when it was that I came, the service was always so slow. now with the food. the broth was soo bland, the bowls were teeny tiny. usually I can't even finish a small bowl of pho on my own, but here I finished it and was still hungry. my brother in law ordered the grilled pork w/ rice and what they served him was a joke. he had to eat my sister's pho ga (because she didn't like it at all) to be full. its definitely overpriced for the amount of food they give you, on top of the taste not even being worth it. the one good thing about this place is that they don't mind you just coming up to the cashier to pay for your order when you come with a large group. read more

I used to come here since 2006 and food has progressively gone into smaller portions. Waitresses are seemingly forgetful and giggle together and forget customers waiting at the door. I really loved this restaurant but today I hit my limit. They forgot us and our order, forgot to ask for water, there was a LOT of hair in our foods. And moldy chopsticks. We asked for the check twice and they forgot also twice. Is it that hard? There were only 5 tables taken and 3 waitresses. The food quality isn't even good anymore. I'm here all the time. I have to say the pho has gotten better with new competition in town. I've always enjoyed the pho but now it's even better. New entree items on the special board is nice as well. Curry chicken was uniquely flavor different from Indian and Thai curry. The owner told me he grinds his own spices for the curry paste which I really enjoyed and he was able to make it extra spicy for me. Giving this 1 star, only because 0 is not an option. Today I went to eat here with a group of 6 and we were displeased with our service. It took us several calls to get a waitress to come serve us and even then, she was rude and grumpy. Turns out this waitress was actually the manager. When I went to pay, she had already charged me 18% gratuity and I told her that the service was not good and that I would do 15% instead, which was more than enough in my opinion. She snobbishly reswiped my card and gave me the most attitude possible. Then she proceeded to toss the receipt at me which was rude and super immature of a "manager". Honestly, she should be replaced and I bet the place would start getting better reviews. The last time my husband and I ate here, 3 years ago, I left with a headache from the MSG broth. Soon after that, I saw a "No MSG" sign in their window, but by then I was afraid to get hit with another msg headache so I passed, and continued to pass even though I do quite a bit of shopping in this neck of the wood. A few days ago, I decided to give it another chance. After all, it's been 3 years, they're still here. To my relief, no msg headache. It wasn't gourmet but it's not gourmet prices either. I had the Shrimp Rice Noodle Soup. It was very basic but like another viewer wrote, if you happen to be craving for some pho (or the like and you don't feel like making it at home), then this place is alright. The service was average.
