This cute, no frills bahn mi spot leans more café-style, hence its name! There is limited seating so perfect for a quick grab and go. Parking can be a bit tricky given its location near a major road, but there is metered parking right out front. One thing I really appreciated was the thoughtful packaging. Instead of wrapping everything in paper/foil (which traps steam and softens the bread), they use takeaway containers that keep the banh mi bread crispy and intact. The portions are generous! I don't think I've ever had a bahn mi with so much protein! I personally asked for extra cilantro on some of the sandwiches which is why the cilantro looks so obnoxious in the pictures. Everything was solid and satisfying! The lemongrass chicken bahn mi stood out with its aromatic flavor. The Saigon special bahn mi though, could've used a bit more presence from the mayo and pate to enhance the flavors. Sounds weird, but surprisingly, the sardines in tomato sauce bahn mi was better than it sounds. It was savory and definitely worth trying if you're feeling adventurous. The summer rolls were fresh, clean, and a great complement to the sandwiches. My only note: I wish the pickled carrots and radish had a bit more tang. They leaned mild rather than punchy. Overall, a reliable spot with thoughtful touches and flavorful options. I'd come back again.
I had a hard time with this menu because I am pregnant and most of the dishes contained either cold cuts or pate, neither of which I could have. That's not the restaurant's fault, but I wish I could've explored this menu a bit more, and this may have ended up influencing my rating a bit. I ended up ordering the Chay (Lemongrass Chicken Bánh Mì) and a Vietnamese coffee. The coffee was absolutely delicious and worth the visit. The Bánh Mì was decent, and was loaded with vegetables, which I appreciated. However, the chicken tasted more like chicken teriyaki and didn't have that fresh lemongrass taste that I love. The baguette was also a bit hard/flaky, maybe because it was toasted a bit too much. I'd love to return and try one of the more traditional Bánh Mì to give this place a second try. The service behind the counter was excellent, however our table was a bit dirty and we had to wipe it down before we sat. Overall the ambiance is casual, and self serve, but a bit minimalistic.
I am delighted with the food at Saigon Subs. The atmosphere is casual but the bahn MI and other vegetarian selections are world class. There are enough tables to handle those like myself who prefer to dine in instead of carryout. A few people told me that this rivals the best street food in Vietnamese city centers. The staff is also friendly and will explain items with which you may not be familiar. It is convenient to the Morristown train station that goes to Hoboken and Manhattan. I hope that in the future they will be open on Sundays.
Absolutely love this place. We ordered two braised pork belly sandwiches and they were juice and flavorful and so well seasoned. It feels so simple and yet it's the best sandwhich I've ever had.
I saw great reviews for this spot so I checked it out with my boyfriend at 3 pm on a Saturday - only a few other people in the place! Only maybe 3-4 small tables to sit at but like some others have said you can always walk and eat outside if no tables are open. Our sandwiches came out in about 15 minutes. I got the Chay, which had lemongrass tofu & my boyfriend got the Xiu Mai with vietnamese meatballs. The employee who took our order was friendly & was great when my boyfriend mentioned he had a peanut allergy! Our sandwiches were so good. The bread was crunchy but not falling apart, the pickled carrots and radishes were such a fresh crunch and flavor. I loved the tofu on my sandwich and they did not skimp. My boyfriend also really enjoyed his sandwich! We both mauled them and agreed this place is a perfect hole in the wall that we would absolutely come back to!
Wow. The bahn mis here are probably one of the best in Central Jersey! We got the tofu banh mis and the pork belly banh mi. We also ordered taro bubble tea. Bubble tea could have been better as it had a powdery aftertaste. Other than that, everything else was delicious. The lemongrass tofu was marinated so well, and was very tasty! Pork belly banh mi was tasty as well and the flavors all matched so well with the other ingredients inside the sandwich. On top of that, their bread was very crunchy (in a good way). If this place was closer, we would be coming here more often!
Quick service and very flavorful food! I really love trying new things and this sandwich was so much different than anything I've ever had. All the flavors came together perfectly to deliver a well balanced, sweet but savory sandwich. My one little gripe is the toasting of the bread. The bread was so over-toasted that it was cutting up my mouth and took away from the enjoyment of the sandwich. It wasn't burnt just so crispy and rough that I would definitely ask for the bread not to be toasted if I return.
This is my favorite place to get boba! It's $6 for a huge cup. I also love the summer rolls and pork belly banh mi!
DELICIOUS BANH MI!! Their sandwiches are so tasty and have the perfect ratio of meat, veggies, and bread. The bread is toasted to perfection and the meat is tender and flavorful. The lemongrass chicken sandwich was my favorite and a must try! Be prepared to wait 20 to 30 min for your order. the food is WORTH THE WAIT! I would recommend calling to order ahead if you're on a time crunch.
Came here for lunch with a team of 6,weren't sure what to expect but we were all pleasantly surprised by just how good the sandwiches are!! Nothing but empty boxes to show for it,so no food pics this time around. We ordered S1 and S8. Somehow my S8 ended up being S9 but I didn't mind as the flavors were still super enjoyable. Highly recommend,so fresh and flavorful. Bear in mind the place is small so won't accomodate small groups-more suited for takeouts. Also,street parking only!
A small restaurant with very limited seating. The restaurant has delicious bahn mi. The bread and the mix of pate, pork roll and do Chua all are very well balanced. The ingredients are all very fresh and tasty. The issue with this place is that given it is a sandwich place, it takes forever to get your order. I'm not sure why. If you want to to eat in or take out. I suggest you order in advance. Otherwise I will be back again for the yummy bahn mi.

Saigon Subs & Cafe honestly might be one of the best if not the best spot for a good banh mi. The flavors really hits. It's around $13 per banh mi which is a little higher than some places, but the quality and portion make it worth it 100%. I got the S1 and S8. The S1 was really good and something I would definitely order again. It's my husband's favorite. The S8 was the chicken and it came out warm with steam! A lot of other places make it but it's still cold. I also liked how fresh the ingredients taste. Service takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the order to come out just as a heads up. One Only small critique is the bread. While I like a crispy baguette, this one is a bit too crunchy and can cut the roof of your mouth a little. So don't gobble it down fast like I did. If they made it just slightly less aggressive it would be perfect. Overall I would definitely go back for more. read more
Passed through Morristown and knew I had to stop here. Street parking and the location has a few seats but it definitely is more of a to-go vibe. I placed my order for pick up so service was quick and easy. I got the #1 Saigon special and it was sooo good. Tastes fresh and the bread is perfect. Would definitely come back. read more

Quick service and very flavorful food! I really love trying new things and this sandwich was so much different than anything I've ever had. Wow, I am so impressed by the food here. This place is so unassuming. It's mostly takeaway, but don't let that fool you. Their food packs a powerful punch. My date and I both got the Chay Sandwich, the only vegetarian sandwich option and it did not disappoint. The tofu is perfectly cooked and tastes thoroughly of lemon grass. The bread it comes on is excellent and the veggies provide a freshness that cannot be beat. We also got the papaya salad with avocado which was yummy but I couldn't eat a lot of it. Their prices are super reasonable and the service was great! I will definitely come back to this gem. read more

TLDR: this is legit. South Vietnamese here (well, my parents are). The Saigon special #1 was so authentic I just know Chú Hai is in the back ready to close the shop to go nhậu. Great meat to veggie ratio, pâté on point, butter was there - it all tastes like it was from a stall in Saigon. Only thing I had to add was a bit of Green Mountain to really set it off. We also had the lemongrass chicken banh mi and goi cuon but honestly the #1 stole the show for me. Can't believe I hadn't visited this place before but it's gonna be in the rotation for sure. read more

Second review 4 years later...still just as amazing. Every bite is comforting (especially when you're starving). Boba in the bubble tea could be slightly harder, but that's just me being extra particular. Quality of the actual bubble tea is very good. read more

Wow! Probably the best banh mi ive had in america. The bread is delicious and they are GENEROUS w the lemongrass tofu (something u cant say for all spots) which is so flavorful and delish might i add, w a very unique texture- a bit more chew/spongey quality than normal tofu which i found very nice. The bread is light, crispy, just fantastic. I want another one alr!! read more
I've always been interested to try bahn mi sandwiches and this place had so much buzz, I had to check it out. Small restaurant with only about 4 tables inside but wow was it busy!! A lot of to go orders and take out. I was blown away by how good their food was. It was so good, I ended up ordering more to have for dinner with my family later that day. The flavors and textures of the ingredients in the sandwich all marry so wonderfully. And their spring rolls were so good too. Even my 3 year old couldn't stop talking about it. SO good, worth the hype! We stopped in for lunch on a Friday for dine-in and it took about 20 minutes for our food to be ready. Everything was delicious! The portions are super generous; we, three adults, struggled to finish three Banh Mis and an order of BBQ pork rolls -- we ended up taking an entire sandwich home. Both Banh Mi varieties we tried, the S1 and lemongrass chicken, were packed with flavor, with the S1 being especially tasty. The spring rolls were also filling and flavorful, served with an awesome peanut sauce. The gentleman behind the counter was so nice and stayed calm and patient despite the lunch time rush. There are a few small tables, but Saigon Subs seems to primarily be a to-go spot. Can't wait to come back next time I am in the area! read more

Saigon Subs are good! I ordered the Lemongrass Tofu Bánh Mì without mayo and it was pretty tasty!! The portions are perfect and so flavorful with the jalapeños, cilantro, and pickled carrots!! The tofu also tasted almost as if it was braised, so I REALLY enjoyed the flavor! I also ordered the mango bubble tea with passionfruit pops and black tapioca pearls. This was my first time having boba that wasn't extremely sweet. Although there is a slight wait, I don't mind as I know my Bánh Mì is being prepared fresh. I also really appreciated how the staff were so attentive of any food allergies! Saigon Subs is a tiny restaurant, but perfect for pick-up and cute! I do think Saigon Subs is a little overhyped, but overall they offer great Bánh Mì for being in New Jersey. Great portions, great service, and wonderful food :) read more
