More than anything in the water crashing against the keys, I wanted to see Christ of the Abyss or as we like to call him 'Touchdown Big J'. Originally I was going to dive, but since the statue is not that deep I figured a snorkel trip would suffice and it did. It was also a nice surprise to go out to a second drop zone which included a ship wreck. The Deeper crew were awesome, friendly, professional, laid-back and educational. Props up to KC, Brent, Chris, Wolfman and the Captain upstairs. Thanks Kasey for showing me how to dive deeper and for the awesome photos, even getting artistic with the shots... and thanks to Brent for the oh so fantastic jokes, kinda made the boat trip fly by;-) My hubby had some issues with the current and his mask, and although we've been in the water recently, you never know when the deep dark blue gets the best of you, so it was cool that the crew didn't give him too much shit, were accommodating and just chilled with him above the water for a bit. I chose these guys because they take care of the photos. I messed with a camera underwater before and it can be a royal pain in the ass, so props up to Sail Fish Scuba for offering this standard with all their dives/snorkel trips. They even had them in the Dropbox that evening, which was awesome! They provided a top notch, one of a kind experience. They will definitely be my go-to-sea guys when in this area again. read more

Such a fun day! We used Sail Fish for a snorkel trip on a Sunday. We booked a morning trip and had to be in Key Largo by 7:30 am. Driving from Ft Lauderdale this was a bit rough, but I'm glad we did it as our party of four were apparently the only ones interested in being up that early and ended up being the only ones on the tour. This company specializes in only small groups, but having only our group of four made it seem even more special. When we first arrived the staff gave us some paperwork to fill out then went over the principles of snorkeling. I have been in the past, but they had some good advice and were very helpful to those in our party who hadn't ever used a snorkel. We set off with George and Captain Chris for the Christ of the Abyss. The statue was really fun to look at, I only wish the story behind it was a little more fun than that it was just put there to attract divers. This area also had some really great fish activity, by far my favorite was the parrot fish, though I got some strange looks from George when I asked him what "the fish with the teal eyeliner" was called. Next we hopped back on the boat and headed over to the north rocks area. Here there were more variety of coral and large schools of silver minnows. They were great to watch in formation when the thousands moved as one. Our crew was so helpful and patient with us, we had a few brand new snorkelers and since I am apparently all fat I seem to do nothing but float, but George had some good advice to help me get down closer to view the coral. My experience snorkeling with Sail Fish has really made me consider my scuba certification. Sail Fish even offers a one day course! Plus they mentioned they will split it into two half days and do an afternoon and a morning, they really aim to please their customers....now I just need to work up the nerve to actually do it. A little note, a friend of mine who was with us is prone to motion sickness and despite taking a seasickness medication a few hours prior ended up a little more than under the weather after the first hour or so. Chris informed us that the medication is best taken both the night before and the morning of the trip. I was a little surprised when she was sick as the water was calm and beautiful, so if you have had issues in the past, better to be safe and prepare as much as possible to make your day run smoothly. read more

They are a tiny bit spensy compared to the remainder of the snorkeling offererings along the Keys. But there's a reason for that. It isn't a cattle call to snorkel/scuba. We got what we paid for: which is quality water time, personal guidance in the water, a small intimate group and tons of photographs (our guide took pics during the whole trip and emailed/burned us copies). My family needed the personal time and small group setting as well. It was my daughter's first time snorkeling and she was a bit afraid. Swallowed some water and panicked a bit. But she got over it. By the end, she was giggling in the water and snorkeling like the rest of the group. I asked her afterwards, "Was it a good day or great day?" She was like, "It was an awesome day." So that's my daughter's two thumbs up. We had only 5 people/customers on the boat. 1 scuba diver and 4 snorkelers. Many of us were beginners and it was as gentle as an experience as you can get. The weather, which can only be controlled by God refused to cooperate for much of our vacation. But Captain Chris was still able to find us fish and a good water experience. We want to come back when the weather's better and check out what kind of water we'll see then. So, fingers crossed. It's a total family business as we found out. Gotta heart the mom & pop store. The guy "driving" the boat, (aka the captain) is probably the owner. The guide in the water taking care of you and snapping photos, is possibly the daughter. The other guide you might get, Diver Dan, may just become your best friend for like an hour or two. So basically, if you are snorkeling "family style" and want a more individualized, personal experience in a small group setting, then I have to say this is the place to go. Thank you, Sail Fish, for a wonderful diving experience! I have a friend working towards his Master Diver certification with Sail Fish and headed down to Key Largo to keep him company on a few of his dives. This dive shop has a very boutique feel that is not at all like some of the other larger operations I have gone diving with out of the Keys or Miami. Instead of a large boat with 30 or 40 people on board like I am used to, we were on a small boat with one other couple, a captain and a guide. Diving was fun, the guide was very unobtrusive but would swim by every once in a while and offer to snap photos of us. When we got back on land she gave each of the divers a copy of the photos which was a very nice touch on an already pleasant afternoon. As a side note - I am incredibly, incredibly prone to motion sickness and having someone as sick as I usually get on a boat can make a boat outing a little awkward. I really appreciated how the the guide and captain dealt with me - instead of being all "oh, poor you" the guide explained how I could just throw up through my BC! That kind of "this sucks but lets have fun!" attitude was just what I needed to enjoy my time on the water. read more

There are numerous dive boats to choose from in Key Largo, Sail Fish Scuba is a top notch outfit and clearly puts safety first!! We felt like pampered family the moment we got there. They unloaded our dive gear from the car, carried it down to the boat and set up all of our gear. Between dives they switched our tanks out and set our gear up again. The boat is not jammed full of divers and snorkelers tripping over each other, but rather with a small, easily managed group. They put a diver with a camera in the water with you. I have no doubt that Phil and George pointed out things that we would have missed. The photos that you receive at the end of your dive are actually of you and all of the things that were pointed out. This worked out well for us, as our GoPro wasn't working. In summary: Vacations are lifetime memories, why take any chances with safety and good times. Sail Fish Scuba is a dive shop that tailors to your needs, has outstanding personnel, great expertise, and standard in water guided photo tours (what? Yea, I thought the same thing. Never have seen another shop do this). My wife and I were celebrating our honeymoon in Key Largo and came across this shop (thank you fellow yelpers). We are both from Miami and have dove with multiple shops throughout the keys (haven't found a place we liked enough until Sail Fish; who is relatively new) so we decided to try a new place. They offer a diving experience that we have never had before (we've done 10 or so trips throughout the Keys). Included in your trip fee is a guide AND you get to take home a CD of pictures (we did 2 trips, 4 total dives and had about 200 pictures on our's) taken by the guide (if you ask nicely and are competent, they'll let you take some for a while). On top of that, they only take 4 divers max (do have access to larger boat for bigger parties upon request) so you get to choose the sites you want (they will suggest places based on weather conditions) and don't have to worry about dealing with some of the "cattle-herding" that goes on at the larger shops. You really feel like a part of the family there. Never scuba before, no worries since they offer certifications in 1 day. Can't beat it! I went down to Key Largo with my fiance who has been diving many times and we chose Sail Fish because of the excellent reviews and they definitely lived up to the expecations. Because I was doing my open water certification (having completed my pool work in NYC) I was happy to hear that they only dive with 4 people + 1 instructor max. We did two dives on Saturday and Sunday and they were all fantastic. Phil was our scuba guide both days and our captain was Chris on day 1 and Evan on day 2. The entire crew was fantastic and Jen up in the store was great! Phil made me feel very comfortable doing all of the skills and even let me do some swim throughs in the reefs which were amazing. The dive sites they chose were all pretty awesome and I think we were the only boat at each so there were no crowds. One thing I thought was particularly awesome was the fact that they give you an underwater camera to use on the dives for free. After the dives you get a CD of all the pictures to take home as well! Sean was the best guide, very knowledgeable and adorable. Excellent dive shop! Small inside, but they had all the amenities one needs. Boat is a flat bottom with a really nice rail system to get off into the water safely and board. The staff were very interactive and friendly and didn't just see our group as average customers. I went scuba diving with sail-fish-scuba this past friday (february 1). This was the NICEST, most professional and EASIEST dive operation i have ever used. I had gone to RainbowReef several times and while it is one HUGEEEEE operation, i definitely felt like i was just "one amongst a herd of cattle". Their boats carry many people (i suppose perhaps 20-25 divers at any one time (maybe more even). I envision the fish in the water saying "omg! - - here comes the 7th fleet" when all the dozens of people go plopping in the water, kicking up all the sand and muck, scaring and chasing all the natural sealife away from the outburst intrusion of mostly thrashing ignorant divers...if you like marching in the macys day parade, this is the outfit for you on the other hand, sail-fish-scuba is a much SMALLER operation...when i went on the boat it was just myself and 2 other divers....and we "slip quietly and gently" into the water - slowly enjoying all that nature has to offer...kind of like singing with barry manilow or billy joel, with their one-on-one performance unfortunately for me, i STUPIDLY forgot to take my seasickness medication and could not partake in the 2nd morning dive, since i was too damn busy puking my guts up over the side of the boat....but the staff (thomas, michael and chris) were ever-so-helpful and mindful of the awful crisis i was having, they did everything they could to comfort me, help and assist me....as you know, it is an awful experience to get sick while out on a dive boat you're so looking forward too.....all i could think of is how "attentive" these wonderful and totally experienced individuals were....i cannot imagine being patronized as such with any other (or any "large") dive operation when there could be 30 some-odd other people to tend too besides, i have always enjoyed a smaller "ma-and-pa" type business, where i wasnt "just another number"....to top it off, they take FREE PICTURES of everyone while ON the boat and under the water (yes, i do recall having to pay exorbitant amounts of money PER PICTURE with many other dive operators and hotel concessions) thats just my 2 cents.....will i be going back here? - - absolutely; except this time i will make CERTAIN to take my dramamine pills 1 hour beforehand! oh - - and my wife enjoyed taking her certification course while i was out on the water ....Jennifer (the lady answering the phone) organized and scheduled everything to accommodate our timing and our needs...she was (is) GREAT! :-) read more

A bit of an over due review. My wife and I decided to leave NY and head to Key Largo to get our Open Water Diving certificate last labor day weekend. I chose Sail Fish Scuba and boy they didn't disappoint. Jen was more then helpful through calls and emails, walking me step by step through of our itinerary and the online learning pre-requisites. A week later, we arrived at the shop to be greeted by Jen and Inst. George. George is a natural at this, he communicates what needs to be done efficiently and efficiently. After a few hours in the pool , we got on the big boat "The Deeper" and headed out to sea. Our first two dives were in a bit rough conditions, 6 ft waves and some current, but again George made sure we cover the necessary skill sets for the certificate and made every effort to The next day, we had to serene dives By the 3rd day, certified us decided to go for 2 more dives, at the beautiful Spiegel Grove wreck, Jen chartered a private tour and we got on the smaller boat this time as it was only us and George. Again, George was attentive and showed us a great time pinpointing interesting aquatic life and swim throughs while continuously snapping photos of us. I had such an amazing experience diving with this company last weekend. I was in the area for vacation and heard about snorkeling trips they offered. Unfortunately, the snorkeling trip times did not match my schedule but I really wanted to do it with them. So I called and spoke to Jen to see if there is any change in schedule by any chance - she was extremely helpful and friendly. My daughter: I came to Key Largo with the idea of getting a diver's certification and I was not let down. I took the course with my younger brother and Dani was our instructor. Dani was really great, she always made us feel comfortable in the water and encouraged us throughout the different diving skills. She never failed to keep us motivated throughout the entire process. Sarah and Casey were also amazingly kind tour guides for snorkeling. I tried the snorkeling and the scuba diving and both experiences were great! All the members of Sail Fish were great really. Would definitely come back to Key Largo just for more tours with them. My review: My family's overall experience with Sail Fish Scuba was great! We spent three days on their boat. I went snorkeling all three times and two of my kids went scuba diving two of those times. I'm so happy they were able to get their diver's certification at such a young age, I'm very proud of them. Our vacation wouldn't have been as great if it wasn't for the amazing crew at Sail Fish. Also, they provided snacks and cookies at the end of each tour, which were really delicious. DO NOT GO TO SAIL FISH SCUBA in Key Largo..........With HUNDREDS of scuba diving operations down in the keys, they cannot afford to treat customers like this. If you are trying to pick out a dive shop to get scuba certified try Florida Keys Dive Center, Amory's, or one of the other hundreds of places down there! I am a small business owner so I thought long and hard whether I should leave such a negative review, so I sat for a while before I decided to leave this review......but almost a month later, I'm still very pissed. Go look at the reviews I've left for other places, you'll see it's very rare I leave negative reviews for business, they are almost always positive, so it should show you how negative the experience was with SailFish Scuba. First, DO NOT trust the reviews, a lot of them appear fabricated, and a lot of them were also rating the dive boat NOT the school. The shop is in an old run down strip mall next to a massage pallor and tattoo shop that both looked closed down. Location is not convenient to anything, so if you're getting certified prepare to go for a long drive at a SECONDARY location to get to the pool. Classroom?? Good luck, there is NO CLASSROOM. In the corner of a very small shop they have benches and seats removed from an old boat and a small little whiteboard. That's it. People.....ALWAYS LISTEN TO THAT LITTLE VOICE IN YOUR HEAD!!!! Mine was telling me to run after meeting my girlfriend's instructor Alex after about 14 seconds. I've been certified since I was 13 years old, I'm 40 now. I'm rescue diver certified with hundreds of dives......with that said, I am a recreational diver. I don't pretend to be an expert by any means.....with that said, I literally knew more answers then the instructor did whenever my girlfriend asked. Not completely his fault.....I blame the owners for putting such a new, (that's right, a brand new, 2 months of experience instructor), with a first time diver that was very nervous. However, what was disappointing about Alex was his lack of personality and professionalism. I shadowed the second day and observed him texting on his phone in a corner by himself on the boat, while my girlfriend was having to get help from me and what appeared to be other instructors on the boat.....Also, what was horrible was that after doing a few different certification skills, Alex for the remainder of the dive, was always a good 15-20 feet in front of my girlfriend, not checking on her, her air, or her comfort. I was doing that. She felt completely abandoned by him and stated if I wasn't there she would have quit. This is not how you introduce someone to diving for the first time!!! This is what really pissed me off, and is why I am leaving this review. They took what should have been a fun first experience and tainted it.....she'll never get that back. The first day she went off to get certified, I was not allowed to shadow dive with her, which is perfectly acceptable. But that was the day she came home in tears and almost gave up......yup, after 5 years of convincing my girlfriend to get certified in diving, she finally agreed, and this was the result, her coming home in tears. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. Her first experience should have been a great experience. Not a HORRIBLE one. Sail Fish Scuba took this away from her. From not helping her with setting up gear, to not having instructor skill set/ presence, to not making it a fun experience, they ruined her initial introduction to a sport I've loved my entire life. And trust me, I did, like you are doing right now, read all the reviews......Sail Fish Scuba was rated great, and also happen to be the MOST EXPENSIVE IN KEY LARGO......that should be there new motto; Sail Fish Scuba, pay the most - get the least. Also speaking of expensive.....the boat.....what a JOKE. Yes, it was nice to have such small groups onboard, and that was the ONLY nice thing about it. Again, the most EXPENSIVE BOAT in Key Largo, (cost $115~ most operations are $85). Thinking it would be the best I was willing to happily pay it, much like the cost of my girlfriends certification, (about $75-$100 more than all other schools). And was the boat the best boat in town??....N-O-P-E!! Busted shower, (which if you dive multiple dives in a day you know how nice it is to rinse off in-between each dive), overly nasty smell coming from the head, absolutely no ice for the cooler, and not even the decency to throw out some damn orange slices at the end?! C'mon!! $115 and you can't cut a freaking orange up for guest?? I've done dive boats for $50 that includes a orange or pineapple at the end. Just not classy at all. Nothing was. read more

Sail Fish Scuba is the ONLY place I dive with in the Keys. I make a trip from Seattle all the way to Key Largo every year (for the past 5 years) and they are more than just a dive company ... Jen and Chris are super knowledgeable, friendly, safety conscious and more than anything, they share the amazing gift of scuba for all that want to explore more of what the world offers. There are loads of companies in the Key's but none that I trust as much as these guys. I will be planning another trip this summer and can't wait to get back down there and see the new cannon Jen discovered this year! Sure, you can easily go and dive with one of the other crews for less, but you'll get nowhere near the professionalism and service (as well as awesome pic's at the end!) that you do with Sail Fish Scuba. I've done my OW, AOW and Nitrox with them and will be doing my Rescue Diver this summer. Every experience I've had with them over the past five years is nothing short of amazing. Cannot rate it any higher. My wife and I dove with them for three two-tank dives, ranging from shallow reefs to the Spiegel Grove. Unlike most dive operations in the United States they send you down with a Dive Master for no additional charge. Our DM (George) was personable, competent and just a good guy to talk to. Knowledgable able the area, scuba and comes into it from a scientific background. We can't say enough about Sailfish. We recently booked 13 dives (turned into 14) over New Years and had an absolute blast. Not only were we shown amazing dive sites with excellent guides, we were treated like family while we were there. Jen even invited us on DEEPER (their incredibly awesome and burly boat) to watch the fireworks from the water. They were so amazing that it was difficult to leave, it felt like leaving summer camp all over again. DM George gave us killer recommendations on things to do in the keys and we were never steered wrong. These guys got us diving in 5-7 foot seas (with some 8s...) and we had one of the best days of the trip. Large boats with few half the allowed guests, and a dive master with every dive. They care about their guests' experience more than they care about the money. It wasn't like other area dive boats that try to fill up the boat. While admittedly some experienced divers prefer not to have a follow a dive master, and they can go off on their own, I prefer not to have to think about depths, navigation, etc, and just enjoy the fish and the experience. They give great service from start to finish. Even the bathroom is stocked with every toiletry and hair product you can think of. The staff is incredibly friendly and they know what they're simplified every aspect of the dive experience. In my case, I was there with a friend getting certified, and the instructor and experience was awesome. We had a full weekend and when the boat was full (to their standards of half the Coast Guard allowed passengers), they took us across the street to Jules Lagoon to get the first two dives accomplished. It was a great option that other shops weren't able to offer. George, the instructor, was awesome. He was friendly, and incredibly easy going. Most instructors seem to be this way in the keys, but even among great instructors, he was a great instructor. I can go on, but you should get the idea. We got scuba certified in may of 2013 from this place. They were amazing!! Made sure we were really comfortable with what we were learning and made the whole experience great! And they have been awesome to us even since then. We were diving in the Caymans and forgot our certification, padi was down for some reason and they called sail fish and verified that we had our certifcation. Then I lost photos from our first dive (3 years ago) and emailed them at the off chance that they still had them and they did! And emailed a Dropbox link. Better than we could ever imagined! I planned a surprise discovery dive for my husbands birthday. After studying online reviews of the dozens of dive shops in Key Largo, I decided on these guys. Two things sold me. The online reviews don't lie and these guys have an amazing dedicated operation. And secondly, after calling a few shops, the gal that manages this one was the most helpful, informative and thorough. We ended up being just my husband and I when we dove yesterday and had our own personal instructor Alex. He was amazing! He thoroughly trained us in the pool during the morning session. We then went out for 2 dives in the afternoon. I have never gone diving in my entire life. I'm deathly scared of the thought of sharks and tend to have an anxious personality. Lol.... honestly there was a crew of like 5 members on board the boat and each was amazing! From the captain, to crew and even some novice divers that went down with us, guided us and stayed on us the entire time. We felt so safe and they made it so much fun! We got to see so many cool sea life! They took free pictures of us and we have so many memories thanks to them! Also they educate you on all the sea life we encountered while under the water after we got out. They even had snacks! This is by far the best operation for new experiences! Had a great time at sail fish scuba in key largo! The staff is super friendly and our instructor Tom was the best! I wasn't able to dive due to my sinuses because I had a cold but my girl friend went and she really enjoyed it. Since I couldn't go, they gave me a free shirt which brought in the at home family atmosphere of this business. Only negative thing would be that the staff got a little snappy with each other for just one brief moment. Nothing major though. 5 stars all the way! read more

This was our third season diving with them and it was, as always, a top notch and fun experience.
