st. alfred's is great. coming from nyc, the people who run this shop are super friendly. none of the snobbery that is usually involved in rare-kicks shops seems to apply here. they remembered that they are actually trying to sell things and that being nice to everyone who walks in the door might be a good idea. i also love how the shop is laid out too. most of it dedicated to things you can actually buy instead of 'trophy' items that are nfs. love the logo as well. all in all its a pretty tight execution on a singular theme with really good people working there. oh yeah, and they threw in a bunch of freebies when i bought a pair of blazers.. which was a nice touch. read more

So I'm going to start off, I usually don't feed into confrontation but this is something I'm astonished and disappointed about. I came all the way from Charlotte, NC to see if I had a chance to win the raffle for the Sean Wotherspoon Air Max 1/97 located at Saint Alfred's (@saintalfred) boutique in Chicago. I was very excited to see if I had a chance to win even tho chances were slim. My boyfriend and I waited in line for 4.5 hour to enter the raffle on Sunday and to have an opportunity to meet Sean, but unfortunately we were too late. But no worries we had an opportunity to each both get a ticket. Unfortunately we did not win the raffle but before we headed back tonight to North Carolina, we wanted to grab a long sleeve @saintalfred's tee to wear back at home. So patiently we've waited in line with the fellas that did win, but again we were here for the store shirt. We waited 2 hours to be greeted by a nice but stressed gentleman in glasses in the front to let us in to the store. We've informed him that we did not win but we're back here to support and purchase their T-shirt. But he let us in for us to be greeted by a very arrogant employee with a bun, that looked at us up and down with disgust and rolled his eyes once we've asked him a question about the T-shirt. I understand raffles and events are stressful, but this is was something different. He made me feel like I wasn't supposed to be in the store. Like I was not good enough to spend my hard earned money at this establishment even tho I am coming back after waiting 4 hours the previous day. At this point I was almost in tears but my boyfriend reassured me everything will be okay. But again I felt discriminated, for one I am a woman and two as a disappointed customer just because i did not win something I am treated like shit. I love streetwear and this is my first time in Chicago ever, and to feel like I wasn't supposed to be somewhere, especially I respected all my colleagues and waited in line with them just to show that I'm not of special privilege but I am human and I believe in fair opportunities. Being discriminated is one of the worst feelings, especially being a minority at this place in time. Again, this is something I do not respect. To be honest while in line to check out, I was going to say fuck this T-shirt but this is not the owners of Saint Alfred's fault but it does show that some (not ALL) employees at this establishment need some empathy training to at least keep loyal and new customers coming back. I'm just really disappointed and hurt that I was treated like this. I would really like to support your store but this has just left an awful taste in my mouth. And I advise anyone going here in the future to proceed with caution, some of the employees will treat you like shit. They have great sneakers and carry a wide selection of various brands for shirts. I must say, St. Alfred didn't disappoint this travelling sneakerhead. It was my first time in Chicago, but I knew St. Alfred was the 'marquee' kicks store in Chicago. None of that snooty NYC boutique attitude you'll get at some joints (if you've been to Supreme, you'll know what I mean). Just a bunch of cool and professional guys that know their craft. The store was busy and they wanted to help as many people as possible or we could have spent hours discussing the decline in leather quality and stitching from Jordan brand or how New Era QC needs serious overhaul. And luckily for me, I swung by their store during a big sale. There's no better feeling that going through the store, picking up your purchases, walk up to the cashier ready to pay full price and they tell you there's a steep discount on everything. Impressive range of kicks. And great selection of clothing - I think it was the first time I've see legit Bathing Ape outside of Busyworks. I think the most impressive part of St. Alfred's is their store brands. Sick prints and incredibly slick fitteds. YES! A store that loves contrasting underbrims as much as I do. Appologies for the months of downtime since writing my last review. I am currently on tour for 6 months without a laptop. (Waiting for the new Mac OS to come out before I get one.) Anyway, St. Alfred is a fantastic spot for exclusive kicks and high end urban gear. Feels a bit like a transplant straight out of NY's Lower East Side, which isn't a bad thing, but it also has a distinctly Chi-town flavor to it, with Chicago-sports inspired t-shirts. Other designs draw influence from high fashion emblems like Yves-Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton. This store was the shit, it has all the stuff we Europeans can only dream about! And when we get it in Europe prices are double in comparison with this store. This store was still expensive if you put it next to footlocker or something but what do you expect, most of the shoes in here were special editions or really rare ones and in that case i don't mind to spend 160$ for a pair of nikes. I like to come in here with my daughter when were walking around and it gets too hot, they got A/C on and dont seem to mind if i come in and take a load off for a while. I only bought 1 pair of shoes here, some of them are a little too wild for me, but they got a cool selection, its like a gallery more than a store. the dudes who work there are nice and i hate to get bothered every 2 seconds by a sales person. they ask you if you can be helped, i say no and they dont bother me again, sweet. will def drop half my paycheck here when the MF DOOM 2 dunks come out. read more

There are many shops popping up in & around Chicago & STA should be the model for those stores. Every saint that works there is very down to earth, feels like shopping from a friend. Went here for the first time like 4 years ago now every time I come to Chicago I make sure I stop here. Always has some exclusive fire. It's not just ideal for Sneakerheads that don't want to deal with the madness of Nike town during the day of a hit release but they've got mean threads. Even their own line is nice. All the Yelpers are right. They greet you with their sales they have going on for the day when you walk in. The customer service is better than any boutique I have been to. Usually they are snobby and not willing to help (ahem, MAJOR!). But they even had stickers and a decent amount of Js for sale. Great selection all around. I had come across this Wicker Park gem while i was out in Hawaii, Oahu to be exact. I was shopping at Kicks/HI and talking to the people who were working there. They had asked me where I was from, I told them Chicago and then they proceeded to tell me that they had a store out in Chicago! I was pretty stoked about going home and checking this place out. I had asked them why they chose Chicago to open up their other store and they said that out of all the places they had traveled they like the Chicago vibe the most. Finally returning home i got to check out the store. It was small, clean, quaint, large variety, good music playing and with a very helpful staff. Great store for people into Japanese and American streetwear. They've carried brands like Visvim, Original Fake, Mastermind Japan and Soph over the years (Their own brand and collabs are pretty boss too). If you're lucky you can even occasionally catch some nice Nike Tier 0, Vans Vault, and other rare releases as well. The employees have great personalities as, well as personal style, and give great service. I always stop buy to shop here when I'm in Chicago. I visited St. Alfreds on Sunday 2/22. I am definitely a shoe person and they have a wide variety of kicks. They specialize in tennis shoes and casual shoes. Its a hip trendy store, I like the selection of novelty T shirts as well. I was able to find a shirt that summed up my whole 2008 "You are now rockin with the BEST!" BEST STORE IN CHICAGO! Saint Alfred is the only shop in the city to sell brands like Huf, DQM, Futura Labratories, Rogue Status, Visvim, etc... while other stores pick up the scent S.A.'s been rockin steady. I found out Saint Alfreds is owned by Kicks Hawaii, a Hawaiian-based boutique of the same flavor which opened in 2001, before the dunk SB craze, before stores started "selling" streetwear. Bottom line is this place is the real deal, no flashy Year of jeans...only jeans I saw were some Futura denims and some other hella-expensive shit that I couldn't even pronounce that dood said came from Japan. Staff can look a bit uninterested but once engaged they were more than helpful and even went out of their way to give me directions to other stores in the neighborhood when I asked about what spots I should hit up. After hitting up all of them I say Saint Alfred is the go to spot for everything that's about to be dope. read more

Ok let me start by saying that st.alfred has the best service of all stores in chicago of its kind. The workers are all super cool and ready to help. They are also really funny. They talk to you like a normal person not a customer. Sneakers here are top notch they get all the limited shit. I'm talking jordans to nikes to converses. Clothing is good. Carry kaws which is something new but a good addition to the store. The inhouse brand does well but doesn't really appeal to me. The manager Brian or krabby is really layed back and chill.
