My fiance came looking for maybe a tie or pocket square to match my dark purple wedding dress, but also wanted to check out the Oxfords and suits. He ended up leaving with a perfect vintage suit that will only need minimal tailoring, a pocket square, a tie, as well as a casual shirt, all for less than the cost of renting a suit somewhere. Plus, gotta love supporting a shop like this -- in business 11 years and clearly going strong; there were 5 or 6 people shopping in there at the same time! And Richard was hopping from one to the next effortlessly. In addition to clothes, there are other vintage finds such as paintings/photos, cocktail accoutrements, and matchbooks. Richard himself works most days but said Sundays he has an assistant so that he can check out estate sales himself. He obviously takes pride in finding wonderful and unique pieces for his shop, and said that everything gets dry cleaned before selling (so it doesn't have the musty smell of some vintage shops). My fiance appreciated the thoughtful layout of the shop. It is obvious that we will be back to check out more fabulous finds!

I expect that most of the girls who come here call their shoes "kicks." Include me out of that category. I walked in here off the street because it looked pretty good in a styley kind of way. The employees seem pretty on the ball and didn't throw a lot of attitude at me. I did buy two pairs of shoes here at reasonable prices. Haven't worn one of them and the others have been worn a lot. Pretty good overall. I get the impression they rotate their stock quite a bit which is also good. I had a lot of problems in high school with girls wearing the same shoes I did and I don't want to go through that again. I would recommend this store, though not for women's work shoes in the office. read more

If you like collecting rare and unique sneakers and gym shoes this is the best in Chicago. They are a boutique style shoe store with tons of selection. The best thing about the shop is their constant rotation of different items for sale. I once visited the store twice in the same week and I was totally blown away when i discovered almost the whole inventory was different. They change the sneaker selection so much that if you are considering buying something but you want to leave and come back later to get the item - it might not be there anymore. That being said, their hit or miss policy for store inventory makes them the best shoe store in the city. read more

I got a pair of boots here because I absolutely love and have to have boots. That's been one of my major loves for a while now, so when I found STAlfred's and realized they have amazing customer service, reasonable pricing, and fantastic selection, I pretty much decided that this is now my new favorite place to shop for shoes! I plan to browse more clothing next time but for now I'm good with the shoe department. They have one of the best shoe selections in the city. It's unfortunate that each time I've gone in I've been treated like crap. The employees are some of the most stuck-up retail workers I've ever experienced. Because of this I've always ended up ordering whatever shoes I tried on there online. In the meantime I would need to buy the correct size for the item. So I did as instructed and provided tracking details. I get a call from UPS the next day informing me that the address provided was no longer in use by Notre's Return Department. I mentioned this to the return agent who "promised to make it right." Another 4 days later of no response or next steps I reach out and I was provided a new address to ship the item to. Notre wanted me to pay to ship the item to them again after providing me with the wrong information to start. A better way to have resolved this issue would have been to send me a prepaid shipping label with the correct address info. Alternatively they should have allowed me to return the item in store like I wanted to at the start of this request. When I asked the service agent to provide details on how they are going to make good on the error, they went dark. It's been several days and I don't anticipate ever hearing back from them. I was an evangelist for this store. Their curation of the store is great. Their customer service is atrocious. I'll spend my money at svrn.

I had lost a lot of weight and was in a size that I wasn't even sure if they carried. I'm a size 10 and when I was younger, everything was so small and I couldn't fit in anything. Of course, I realize at that time I was 328 pounds and they just didn't carry four or five extra large. I bought a pair of boots, a cute skirt, and a cute dress. Prices were pretty decent. They were what you would expect out of any normal store not even necessarily a specialty store. I think my dress was about $70, my skirt was 45, and my boots were about 100 but I did buy specialty boots that are just for a couple outfits I wear. Not so easy to walk in, but they aren't really meant to walk in that much anyway ha you catch my drift. They carry a lot of really great brand shoes and wonderful boots. They've been in the business for a long time and I will always remember their location on Belmont and Clark. Right next to the punkin' donuts. At least that's what we used to call it.

We asked for help with one of the items and one of the ladies replied "oh I'm sorry, we are recording" and proceeded to grab the gentleman from the cash register to come help us instead of doing it themselves. I understand if you are busy and recording, the issue is, they weren't actively recording, and hadn't been recording for 10 minutes at that point. Furthermore, we overheard the lady employees talking amongst themselves and saying to me and my partner something along the lines of "I hope they don't steal a pair of Demonias". If you look on the alleys official TikTok page, majority of the videos are about putting customers down and making fun of questions and comments any normal customer would make in a retail setting. Either way we spent $500+ at the store, and at this point we were being helped by another gentleman while the other guy helping us took a break (the ladies still did not help us at this point). It's very upsetting morally to leave a bad review on a small business that has been around since the 70s, especially because I love the owner and his views, and he works so hard to maintain this business. I just wish the employees cared more about the image of their store.
