Well, the name says it all: this store is fabulous, and the eponymous Richard will be your style guru, knowing at a glance what size you'll need, telling you authoritatively to wear braces rather than a belt with that suit, turning up the sleeves on this shirt for you, and generally steering you through the seas of fantastic vintage finds in his store. My fiance came looking for maybe a tie or pocket square to match my dark purple wedding dress, but also wanted to check out the Oxfords and suits. He ended up leaving with a perfect vintage suit that will only need minimal tailoring, a pocket square, a tie, as well as a casual shirt, all for less than the cost of renting a suit somewhere. Plus, gotta love supporting a shop like this -- in business 11 years and clearly going strong; there were 5 or 6 people shopping in there at the same time! And Richard was hopping from one to the next effortlessly. In addition to clothes, there are other vintage finds such as paintings/photos, cocktail accoutrements, and matchbooks. Richard himself works most days but said Sundays he has an assistant so that he can check out estate sales himself. He obviously takes pride in finding wonderful and unique pieces for his shop, and said that everything gets dry cleaned before selling (so it doesn't have the musty smell of some vintage shops). If you're reading this you probably have some idea what to expect. As a vintage thrift shop, whether you find something will always vary but the shop itself (and of course Richard) are fantastic. Guess I'm bucking the perfect score trend, but I wasnt impressed by this place. I've shopped in vintage stores all over for decades, and I was surprised by the overpriced merchandise at this place. A 90's Ralph Lauren Tweed coat in good.condition was $495. Dress shirts in good condition were $150. The owner was tolerant of me. He wasn't kind of helpful. Yes, there were some cool pieces, but I could've hit Nordstrom or Mildblend and spent the same or less money for new cool clothes. Not impressed. read more

Once again I enjoyed a fabulous visit to Richard's Fabulous Finds. I needed to pick up a gift certificate and try to find a perfect gift for that person that has everything. It was getting late so I called to see it it would be ok to arrive close to closing time. Of course Richard welcomed me and told me the timing was no problem. The space is sooooo beautiful decorated and set up I legit asked the Richard if I could move in!! He was fabulous just like his shop and sooo nice and darling. After following on Instagram for over a year, I finally made it into the shop on a recent trip to Chicago and it did not disappoint in the slightest. It's a terrific store! It is packed to the gills with wonderful menswear spanning decades and full of everything to fit you from head to toe. Every rack is organized and things are clearly marked, making it easy and enjoyable to shop. Whether you are tenured in your aesthetic choices or you are brand new to dressing well, this shop is for you. Richard was available for fit critiques, suggestions, and fun stories. We both connected over the 80s and early 90s aesthetic, and after two hours of fun I left with a bag full of goodies, including a V2 by Versace suit, eight neckties, two belts, and a pocket square. Prices are reasonable and I found the store to be a great value. Vintage menswear shops are nearly nonexistent today, so this was truly a treat. If you're not in the exact area but in Chicago, it is without a doubt worth the Uber ride. If we lived in Chicago we'd visit a couple times a month. read more

Prices are fair, even the priciest suit is more affordable than retail and with vintage quality and dry cleaning. My final price for an ascot, boots, 3 piece 70s suit totaled 250 USD. Where do I begin? There's a reason Richard is 5 stars! His selection is top notch but his impeccable taste and historical fashion knowledge is what makes the experience amazing. I've always known Richard's inventory to be fabulous thanks to social media, but when my now-husband proposed, we got to outfit him at Richard's for the wedding! Not only was there so much in my husband's former-Marine-and-broad-shouldered size, but everything was in perfect condition. We wound up getting a subtly patterned wool suit from the 30s/40s and some killer wingtip shoes. Both items will serve my husband far into the future, and we hope to buy more stuff soon. Bonus: I've gotten to know Richard more in the months since my wedding, as I see him a few times a month or so if weather's nice (hubs and I run a business down the street) and he's a real quality guy, smart as a whip and very kind with some occasional sassafras. ;) read more

It's nice to have a well-curated vintage clothing shop for men, which seems pretty rare in Chicago. The owner, Richard, is extremely helpful and has an encyclopedic knowledge of vintage styles. He's not pushy and very friendly. The store's selection is quite vast. While I came in only needing a few black tie furnishings (bow tie and cummerbund), I left with some fantastic linen trousers and even an ice bucket, too. The store is thoughtfully organized and well-merchandised. You feel as if you stepped into a smaller version of a Ralph Lauren flagship. This is the first time I've ever bothered to write a Yelp review, but I was completely blown away by the shopping experience I had at Richard's this week after being referred there by a friend. The store itself is gorgeous, and truly a thought-out and curated experience down to the last detail: fragrant fresh flowers, great music, and handsome decorations/displays... so many little things that weren't necessary but that made my time there a treat. The clothing was, of course, the real star of the show, and most items I looked at ranged from about $75 to $245; definitely reasonable. Honestly, Richard's fashion advice alone is worth the cost. I went in a complete rookie and he very patiently answered all of my questions and then some. He was extremely attentive, picking things out for me to look at and explaining why he chose them and how to wear them well. When I left with my pile of loot, he even wrote notes for how to get everything tailored. Overall, Richard's just doesn't seem like the kind of store that exists anymore - but thank God it does! The man there, who I assume was Richard (I guess I'm a dummy for not asking), helped my boyfriend and I decide on the best styles and colors for his larger frame.
