Rubber mat for the dog bowls, trash can with locking lid, pet linens for dogs who are used to being on furniture and even a jar of doggie treats. The owners/hosts are friendly and welcoming. The resident Golden Retriever, Ellie is so sweet and gets along well with other dogs. The Inn itself is located in the center of town walking distance to all the great restaurants and shops. There are miles of well maintained sidewalks in this town for easy dog walking. The pet friendly separate guest rooms seem to be far enough away from the rest of the inn to buffer any barking or dog noise, but when we were concerned about going to dinner and leaving the dog - the owners offered to text us if there were any real noise issues. They took the worry out of leaving the dog alone in the room, which made our stay more enjoyable. We will definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the main lodge and the room was simple but quite nice, with new finishings, and very clean. The room was rather large as well. At the off-season rate the price was very reasonable. The grounds were interesting and nice. The 'Brown Stone' and 'Annex Lodge' were less expensive but did not appear to be as nice as the main lodge. This is a mom-and-pop small town hotel so don't expect all the amenities of a big corporate hotel, but again anything you should need will be within walking distance in the village.

"Breakfast" would be a stretch with a couple cereals and some prepackaged breads. Half the tables and chairs at breakfast because owner said they were broken. Even a broken chair in our closet. Breakfast starts at 8...sharp. In a town with a ski resort where the resort opens at 8:30. Why it doesn't start 2 hours before the slopes starts I don't understand. Talked to another unhappy guest who arrived at 1:30. Check-in not until 3 and they asked if they could just change in their room (after owner determined it was ready) and they told him it would be $35. Absolutely ridiculous. Will NEVER be back. Used to stay here all the time under the old owners and these new owners couldn't care less about the guest. Just cutting costs and making sure every extra penny is captured from the guest. Good riddance.

The owner was nice and accomodated us on the night that we needed to stay instead of the night that was actually booked through their system. Below is a list of pros and cons. I would not recommend staying here. My husband and I stayed in the 101 Davis room. Pros: Extremely comfortable King size bed, Clean, non smoking, internet access, 2 soft bath robes provided, plenty of towels provided, owner was nice and accomodating given the situation. Cons: Everything was outdated and in need of an upgrade: cracked stained ceiling, old carpet, window air conditioning unit that sounded like it was going to take off. The private bathroom is across hallway- not connected to room and the window in bathroom did not open nor did it have an exhaust fan. The dorm fridge provided was hardly balancing on an old chair, not safe or stable at all. Lastly their breakfast was okay at best. I've had better breakfast at hotel chains that offer continental breakfast. All that was offered was scrambled eggs, sausage and some fruit. No homemade pastries, pancakes, potatoes, quiche or typical "Bed and Breakfast" food. No jelly or jam and the 4 slice toaster didn't cut it when you had a room full of people waiting to make toast. We were very disappointed, especially after reading the good reviews from others.

We called ahead and picked up our order at 11 - Pepperdew cheese bread, breakfast sausage strudel, and two romaine salads with chicken. As we drove home, the food smelled so good that we couldn't resist starting before our arrival. The bread was incredible - pockets of cheesiness in each buttery, savory chunk. The sausage strudel was similarly scrumptous - a savory salvo of brunch fare's best. Finally, the romaine salads provided a healthy palette cleanser - tender chicken, pear, blueberry, walnut, and blue cheese crumbles with spiced pear vinaigrette... every mouthful came together perfectly. Saturday brunch takeout is well worth the drive, from the Southtowns or even the city. Enjoy! Menu at - https://www.facebook.com/RetreatInEden/

We even drove right past it the first time - when they say it used to be a church, they aren't kidding. Marienthal itself is three different pieces - the church is absolutely beautiful, and has been converted into a large reception hall. Behind the church is a beautiful little patio with a fireplace where we were able to have breakfast the next day. The parsonage next door was renovated into a number of guest rooms - the room we were originally in was the smallest of them, but had a beautiful attached bathroom, TV and was still plenty of room for two people. Lastly, there was a building (which I believed housed nuns originally), that has been converted into a bit of a retreat centre. There were a half-dozen or so double rooms with a full kitchen upstairs, and a large meeting area downstairs with another great kitchen, big screen TV with satellite, and lots of couches. We even had access to a great little jacuzzi in the back. This place is an absolute gem in the middle of nowhere. There's a little grill next door if you want to grab some food, but otherwise there is almost nothing in the immediate vicinity. You can drive about half an hour if you're looking for things to do, but if you really want to just get away in peace and quiet, where you know you won't be disturbed, this is absolutely the place to do it. Location and buildings aside, the hosts are really what makes this place special. Both of them go way out of their way to be accommodating. Louise's breakfast was very likely the best breakfast I've ever had in my life. Homemade apple turnovers, local sausages, and the fluffiest, cottage-cheese pancakes that still make my mouth water. And Vinnie is a very entertaining fellow to talk to - he has absolutely no shortage of hilarious stories to tell. The two of them were great to have as hosts. The next time we need a quiet getaway, there's zero doubt about where we'll end up.
