It comes with three pieces of juicy and flavorful thick cut salami and three pieces fried cheese, two perfectly cooked running eggs, along with mashed plantains. Delicious! I also like their lunch foods, such as pernil and oxtail. The turkey wings are tasty, but a but dry. Their soups are some of my most ordered items as well. My usuals are the trip stew and cow's foot soup. If you look at the crowd, you'll notice a mix of latinos and locals who recognize this small shop as a neighborhood gem. My husband ordered the chicken with a white sauce and really enjoyed his meal as well. My older daughter loved her grilled steak so much that she had to take some home for later! My youngest kept it simple with chicken fingers, which she happily finished. They also offer fresh juices. The girls ordered mango and strawberry juices, and both were delicious. One thing we thought was really cool was that the TVs played the music videos for the songs that were playing throughout the restaurant, which added a fun atmosphere. Before leaving, we checked out the bakery section and picked up a Nutella croissant and a chocolate loaf. The girls absolutely loved both treats! The flavors are a little off for me, but still a good version. The ropa vieja also lacked a little something, but they use tri-tip instead of the usual flank steak, which felt more tender. The owner Benny was also kind enough to give us some free desserts to take home, which were pretty good. With that said, what intrigued me the most was the interesting story about how Benny fell into this restaurant situation after swearing he would never be in this industry again. He is a strong believer in supporting the community, and has a nonprofit called Hungry Monk Rescue Truck that deals with food insecurity in NYC. We need more people like him in this world. Let's show our support for a business we can be proud to dine at.
