My new take out sushi destination. It appears even though they have indoor seating, it's only set up for take out. Tonight I got a sushi deluxe dinner and it was very good. 10 pieces of sushi and a tuna roll. My wife got the salmon teriyaki and she thought it was a little oily , but tasty. Sakae Sushi is our favorite sushi place in the area! Prices are extremely reasonable, the service is quick, the food is always delicious and fresh. In our most recent order, we got miso soup, vegetable udon, veggie tempura, edamame, a Philadelphia roll, a godzilla roll, a vegetarian roll, an avocado roll, and a sweet potato roll. It lasted three of us multiple meals! Everything was so delicious. What will especially keep us coming back though is we were a little delayed to pick up so they called to check on us and then when we were there, they gave my toddler a small cat figure to take with her because she was admiring the one on their shelf. Nope...just...nope. I had a taste for sushi last Friday so I called this spot. I've eaten their food one time before with zero issues so I figured "why not?" I was in CVS when I had this bright idea to call and order ahead of time. I called and someone picked up. I asked about their specials as I know I had gotten 3 sushi rolls before for a good price. The guy who answered was "short" with me- abrupt to say the least. I could hear in his voice he was "busy" as I inquired about his menu specials. He told me that 3 rolls would be 20-something dollars. I felt that was pricey but told him to please place my order. That's when I realized my phone automatically picked up my car's bluetooth and the guy probably couldn't hear me at some point. I realized he hung up on me for that reason. :( I called back and got the same "irritated" unfriendly guy. I asked him if he received my order and apologized that we were cut off. Unfortunately my car's bluetooth picked up again and he hung up on me very quickly...again. Okay question...as a business employee if a consumer calls - not once but twice to try and place an order and you sense there's something going on during the call that allowed the call to disconnect, wouldn't it be common sense protocol to call back your customer? Well dude didn't call me back and I felt like I'd had enough of his rudeness so I didn't call him back. Instead I called "Go Sushi" in Scotch Plains to place my sushi order. Scotch Plains is quite a bit further out then this place which is up the street from my house but...I'll take the trip to have better service AND better sushi on any given day. This restaurant is located on the corner of a strip on busy Morris Ave and the parking is challenging. On the upside the food is fresh, well seasoned and packaged nicely allowing good food quality. We've ordered hibachi rice, shrimp and vegetable tempura, seaweed salad and various sushi rolls. Ordering is simple with on line access and an easy to understand menu. Each time the food has been very tasty. In person the interaction has always been pleasant and timely. The restaurant is not open to eat inside, however, it is very nicely decorated and tidy. Stopped in on a Friday, it was empty. Which to me is normally a bad sign. I was ready to turn around but decided to stay. Had my typical sweet potato roll, shrimp tempura, and a dragon roll I believe it was. Pretty good. I cant complain, I actually enjoyed my food. The only down side was it was cold inside. Not sure if they had just opened up for the night (it was around 6pm) or they just dont turn on the heat, but I kept my coat on the entire time. It's Iocated in a very small strip center with only pull-in / back-out parking, so you won't see many parked cars, but the sushi is DELICIOUS!! The server is polite, quick, courteous and helpful. After may years going to the same sushi places over and over I wanted to branch out a bit and try some new places. Sakae came up as a place not too far from me in Elizabeth so I decided to check it out. Sakae Sushi is located in a small strip mall. A couple of the businesses there look closed down, so it's not the most encouraging sight at first but don't be fooled, the restaurant is open for business. The interior of Sakae is fairly standard for an Asian restaurant. Lots of faux dark wood paneling, tables that are set remarkably far apart and a counter towards the back. Way in the back to the left are the rest rooms. There's a lot of space and it is comfortable. No worries about being crammed in. Service was good. Nothing remarkable. My order was taken promptly and our food served quickly. I wound up getting the Sashimi "regular" which had 16 pieces of Sashimi. This included a green salad and miso soup. The soup was okay, nothing extraordinary. The salad was great however, bolstered by the delicious dressing. The Sashimi was good. Not top notch, not the freshest I've ever had, but for the price it was worth it. I left full and satisfied. Sakae is not a bad place to get your Sushi fix on. Recommended. read more

The steak was the most lackluster as it had absolutely no sear making for some unappetizing looking steak with a chewy texture. The noodles were clumped together as was the rice. The vegetables were unevenly cooked with mushy zucchini and hard broccoli. There wasn't any hibachi sauce to go along with the food. Service - 4/5. Service was good and timely. Value - 2/5. I realize that hibachi might not be what they specialize in here but it was offered on the menu, so its fair for me to expect a certain level of quality. The hibachi was really unsatisfying and lacking in flavor and pretty expensive to boot at $21 for the plate. One of the few sushi spots I've tried where they make amazing rolls - very thin amount of rice, nice amount of filling and not falling apart once you touch a piece or even worse - when you lift a piece from the plate. We tried maki combo, yellowtail roll, spicy tuna roll, wonton soup, Kani salad and Philadelphia roll. All was great, except Kani salad which had lettuce for the main ingredient. Not as much crab sticks and cucumbers. I got it if it's their style but don't sell it as Kani then. Wonton soup was really hearty, size Large($3.75) could probably feed the entire army so be mindful. Service was fast and very polite. The only other thing was bathrooms - no tissue or paper towels. And we were the only table for a while. I typically go for a salmon/avocado roll and salmon hand roll-- but I have tried the tuna and some other options & anything from them is just so fresh and delicious. I come from a family of fish mongers. I have tried the best and the freshest , and Sakae is right there with them. Do not even hesitate. New to union tried this place out on a recommendation. Ordered the hibachi chicken combination. Vegetables and rice were great, rice was good texture and vegetables were crisp and crunchy, not soggy. The chicken on the other hand... I am not sure it was even chicken. It was shiny and chewy almost like rubber consistently with no taste whatsoever. I thought after my first bite that it was just me but my husband tried it and couldn't even swallow the piece of chicken. My husband and sister did enjoy there sushi so maybe just stick to the cold food such as sushi and DONT order the hibachi! I would hate for someone else to waste their money like we did. read more
