I can't believe I just found out about this restaurant!! Great sushi, great service and a spectacular presentation! When I arrived, I was immediately greeted and brought to a table. The server brought the drinks out along with clear soup. She took our order and it was out within 20-25 minutes. Not too fast and not too long. It was the right amount of time for talking with the company joining me. Thought the course of my dinner, the server refilled my drinks 3-4 times and never let my cup be less than half full. This is a good indicator of how attentive they are at this restaurant! At the end of our dinner, a free desert and "thank you" was brought to our table. I ordered the Philadelphia roll, diablo roll, black dragon roll, and Annie roll (See picture). All amazing rolls, I thought the roasted almonds on the Annie roll was unique! This experience was probably the best we had in Jacksonville with food and was unanimous amongst our party. We were seated quick after trying to find somewhere close to Southbank hotel between convention workshops and were pleased to find it busy but moving quickly. We were shocked at how reasonable the prices were and excited after seeing how expensive everywhere else was locally. I ordered the steak hibachi with fried rice and clear soup, and let the server know I was allergic to mushrooms, to which she repeated "no mushrooms" back to me. The soup came first, with at least 5 mushrooms in it. Because I was hungry and only lightly allergic, I decided to pick it out and eat the soup anyways. I was not impressed by the lack of safety in the kitchen or communication that it was a request that they couldn't honor on my end. The fried rice was just egg, rice, and soy sauce- not a single veggie to be seen which left a LOT to be desired. I'm usually super into fried rice but had little interest in their recipe, it seemed bland and unnecessarily salty. The dish also arrived with noodles that had a somewhat creamy sauce I couldn't place, but were good and carried the flavors of the other items which made it pair perfectly with the hibachi. The steak, I have to say was cooked surprisingly well. I didn't specify medium rare as I assumed they would ask if it was an option, and they didn't ask. The steak was cooked very well (not well done, the steak was cooked probably medium-medium rare). The veggies were also cooked well, and the sauce wasn't too salty but became a little much by the end, which is why I typically prefer a good fried rice over saucy noodles. I ordered yum yum sauce about half way through with a few others at my table and never received it, even after a follow up. But honestly? For these prices I wasn't upset at all, especially for steak hibachi with pretty decent steak. I think the lack of care with the allergy request was what upset me the most about this visit, but I hope to come back and try more some day (as I'm not local to Jacksonville). read more

Our normal sushi and fried rice places were closed for the evening. Sake House 2 was just a few blocks from us. We had just planned to order takeout so we decided to try it. I placed our order online. Once placing our base order, we wanted to add some protein to our fried rice. I instructed this in the comment section. We were already paying more than we wanted, but we are always willing to pay more if the food is worth it. As soon as I placed the order, we received a call letting us know that the extra protein was gonna be an additional $20. It was Father's Day and my husband really wanted sushi and fried rice, so we decided to just pay it. We picked up our order and went home to eat it. Again, we live just a few blocks away. We went straight there, unpacked our food, and started eating. It couldn't have been more than 10 minutes. The food was lukewarm at best. Lukewarm was one thing, but the food just wasn't good. The salmon katsu roll was not too bad, but the Dynamite roll tasted like it had been fried in old oil. The steak that we had ordered for extra protein was maybe a handful, if even that, and was very dry. The chicken was also very dry. The shrimp was at least okay. For two people, our meal was almost $100 and was subpar! We the two places we normally get our food is literally HALF the price and the food is always fresh and tastes amazing. I only gave the 2 stars because at least we could eat the salmon katsu and shrimp. I literally threw away at least $60 worth of food. Next time, we'll go to our old faithfuls. read more

After being seated we waited 10 minutes before a waiter came to greet us and take a drink order. Having waited 10 minutes, we had time to make our menu choices. We mentioned to the waiter we would like to place our food order along with the drink order (4 waters). He said he was unable to do that. So, we placed our order when he came back with our waters. They were out of miso soup. A Japanese restaurant out of miso soup? Ok. For the kids I ordered two California Rolls, two Philadelphia rolls and two clear soups. For me, I ordered two sushi rolls and a clear soup and salad. My husband ordered a hibachi noodle dish with veggies. The soup and iceberg lettuce salad were delivered relatively quickly. The soup was ok. Another 15 minutes passed before the waiter brought a handful of sushi plates. He looked at the dishes and realized they weren't ours. He walked away with the food without an explanation. After a total of one hour at that table, the waiter arrived with the food we ordered. 5 minutes prior to the sushi arriving, the noodle dish was delivered. This was the grossest looking noodle dish I think I've ever seen. It was literally spaghetti doused with soy sauce. The veggies were soggy and dull. The sushi had no flair. It was all thrown on one plate with an ice cream scoop size of wasabi. It was comparable in looks and taste to average grocery store sushi. I don't know if it was the waiter's first night in the job or if the restaurant was unprepared for a busy-ish night. I often stay at hotels in the nearby area. Despite the construction on Riverplace BLVD the restaurant is easy to access by vehicle or walking. The restaurant was a clean and bright environment. I read recent reviews about it being small but I didn't think so. If you are dining alone you have the option to sit at the bar/sushi bar. If you are dining in a group there was ample space. I only ordered sushi and was a bit disappointed. I ordered the Crunch and Spicy Krab w/cucumber. Unfortunately the sushi did not taste fresh. The Crunch was deep fried and it almost had a stale aftertaste. The rice in both the Crunch and Spicy Krab tasted old and the texture was slimey. The miso soup that came with tasted good. No tofu, just a miso base with some chives and a mushroom! I ordered a side of Seaweed Salad. That was good! As for the four stars, that is for the impeccable service. Lunch today was a mess and a half. We arrived a little after Noon for some lunch. The place was packed and the waiter told us sushi will take 10 minutes but everyone has ordered hibachi so that will take 30. We thought 30 was okay since my guy really had a taste for fried rice. The good (and the reason for 3 stars instead of 2): The sushi was tasty. We had the summer roll (crab salad with mango, avocado, eel sauce and sesame sseds) and the Jimmy Smith (smoked salmon, crab and cream cheese deep fried with a spicy sauce). The combo hibachi plate was as expected although the chicken was a little dry. The bad: -The sushi rolls took 30 minutes and the hibachi took 45. An hour lunch stretched to 1.5 hours. There was only one sushi chef so the male waiter who seated us and took our order started making rolls. At one point, there were 5 plates of sushi on the bar and the female waitresses walked by them a dozen times. When one plate was finally delivered, the diner complained saying she saw it sitting on the counter for 20 minutes and wanted fresh food. Then the sushi chef yelled he just made it. No he didn't. We saw the plates sitting there collecting dust too. Ours just happened to not be included because of the fried roll. -One table had a guy ask for his food in a to go box because every one had eaten and his didn't come out yet. Another gentleman left after arriving before us because food was taking so long. -The wait staff were incredibly flustered. People coming in for lunch had to stand by the door for 5 minutes staring at people until they could be seated. Staff started bickering with each other in raised voices. Just because you're not speaking English doesn't mean it's okay to yell at your co-workers in front of patrons. You never know who may understand. -When it was time to leave, a waitress took a stack of 6-8 bills to tables outside. As we were walking to the door, I noticed a credit card on the floor. I picked it up and looked for a staff member to give it to and was met with blank stares. The waitress returned from outside because she realized she misplaced the card and I was able to hand it to her. This place is right in the heart of many, many businesses. They know it gets busy for lunch. I've been during lunch before and never had such bad service. So hire more people or get your stuff together because today was a mess that left many people disappointed. read more

We had attended the symphony and were ravenous afterwards as we had only snacked beforehand. I had read this place was open until 11pm and mentioned it to our Uber driver. He even remarked the place was good. We arrived around 9:30 and were the last sit down of the night. Several people were in and out picking up to-go orders. We (3 of us) ordered the California Roll, the Times Square Roll, Tokyo Roll, a miso soup, and Chicken Yaki Udon noodles. The rolls were superb! I almost swatted my husband and son's hands when they went for 2nds of my Times Square roll. A pleasant surprise was when one of the staff came and gave us a complimentary House Roll. However, my last two visits have solidified that there are some real problems in this restaurant that need to be highlighted. Yesterday, during the lunch rush, i tried to call in a to-go order. This is a typical practice for me, and they didn't answer. No problem, it happens. Walked across the street, placed an order, and waited 30 minutes to receive my to-go food. Now, i work in walking distance so i didn't have to drive anywhere, but that's a crazy amount of time for fried rice. Then, when I opened the box, it was completely missing my protein (shrimp and steal hibachi). Another 15 minute wait for them to cook the protein. And when i finally made it back to the office to eat? Three sad shrimp and a few shreds of steak on top. I am so upset. The staff is SO friendly, and the food is good, but this is not the first time I've had an issue with the kitchen. Please be warned, unless you have a leisurely amount of time for lunch, do not visit here. That, and stick to the sushi menu. :( read more

I went to the front waiting for somebody , anybody to acknowledge me . As i stood in line , i saw 3 people taking care of togo orders and 1 guy literally watching youtube and eating in front of me in a table . We make eye contact and nobody came to tell me they will be right here . The guy continues to eat and watch his show. I waited like 15 minutes and was so annoyed i went to the host/server and told her i will just be paying for the teas and we will be leaving . Once we paid for the teas , we left and head to our favorite sushi place in the Towncenter. "Sushi House " . Now we know , never to come back . I have been a fan of Sake House since before they opened this location in San Marco. They have a nice atmosphere, I enjoy the seating areas with the drop seating on the wooden paneling and the outdoor seating is also nice. They have a nice selection of sakes and Japanese beers, as well as a pretty extensive menu. Definitely some of the best sushi in Jacksonville, which oddly, being a coastal city, is not one of Jacksonville's strong suits. However, I have to say that the last time I went there, the customer service was pretty poor [possibly due to a language barrier, many of them don't speak much English], even for a regular, recognized customer like myself. When putting in the amount to be charged to my credit card after a nice lunch at the restaurant I realized they had charged me for 192.10 instead of the $19.21 I was supposed to owe. When I pointed this out to them they gave me a "refund" of the difference instead of cancelling out the incorrect order, which basically put $175 of my dollars on hold for at least three days while it processed. I wasn't even confident they would have processed it correctly, so I had to spend an extra hour out of the work day getting them to cancel all the transactions. After all this mess, before it was even clear it had been handled with the banks properly, they expected me to pay the original $19.21. It was kind of appalling. Good sushi and nice restaurant, but be aware of when you go to the cash register. They might screw you over a bit. read more

I ordered three different specialty cocktails and all were great. The bar itself is a new feature and seats up to ten comfortably. There is a huge flat screen as well to watch the game. The food is good. It's better than your run of the mill hibachi joint. I appreciate the fact they serve hibachi with noodles and rice; most places only serve fried rice. The lighting is dim and it makes for a great date place or a joint for Asian inspired birthday party. They have a live guitar player on Wednesday as well. If you live in San Marco or Riverside, check it out. It's one of the only sushi places I know of that has a full service bar. read more

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in town. It is in a great location. The servers are always nice, and the sushi never disappoints. I particularly like the true Dynamite Roll and the Salmon Katsu Roll. I highly recommend this location for gatherings of 2 or more. The reason being is the wait time. The have great sushi and hibachi selections without the actual hibachi! I love being greeted by a bowl of clear soup and a fried crab roll that are always complimentary. What we love most are the sushi rolls, prepared fresh and fast, it's not wonder that there's a steady steam of patrons. I told them about my poor service and it was my first time coming here. The lady apologized and said they are busy on Fridays. Lol. Really? That's the excuse? Sake House 2 is one of my favorite go-to sushi places when I'm in the San Marco / Riverside area! The staff is amazing and welcoming! As soon as you're seated you get your drink and they bring out clear soup (the Miso soup is delicious as well) I love all of the different varieties of sushi rolls and food options on their menu, definitely give the Jimmy Smith Roll a try if you're a fan of the Philadelphia Roll. But the quality and taste of the food is amazing, better than most sushi places, Sake House 2 is definitely in my top 5 and I would highly recommend it! read more
