We really do like this place. We've been here and had excellent Hibachi numerous times. Tonight was different. The Hibachi was a 45 min wait so we opted to sit down and order. We figured the food would be the same... BIG MISTAKE! The waitress working the restaurant (non-Hibachi) was very inattentive. Our food was brought incorrectly and nothing was offered to fix the meal. From the first bite we knew we'd made a mistake. It was the absolute worst Japanese food we've ever had. We ordered Hibachi steak and shrimp. Mine was not even edible. The steak was like beef jerky and the shrimp was rubbery. I maybe ate 4 bites while waiting on the waitress to bring the rest which never happened. My wife's filet was burnt and was probably not even filet. This ruined us and it'll be a while before we come back here again. The management here needs to know how poor of service the customers are receiving. After this experience it's hard to recommend this place at all. read more

I used to frequent Sake House all the time. Half price sushi was such an awesome deal. I went in and the place was packed so my friend and I sat at the sushi bar. Saw one roach, you know it happens and we live in South Carolina. Another roach, crawls from between where they keep the raw sushi....gross. Another one is crawling toward me and I slam my hand down on it. The sushi chef looks at me, shrugs his shoulders, and continues with his day. Guess this is a normal occurrence at this place. When I came to pick up, I was informed by Jenelle the "manager," who decided it was a good idea to: 1. Not say anything to her employee about her language regarding her personal issues in front of everybody including myself while I was waiting. 2. Be completely rude regarding the online order and the incapability of them for fulfilling the order, let alone giving me a phone call 45 minutes prior. 3. Waste the food that was prepared for my order, instead of informing me that the online ordering was incorrect so it wasn't going to work again, and just give me what I ordered, for the original price I was given online. Common sense, as a manager, would have been to own up to the mistake and say they messed up, give me the order, since they didn't even call me to tell me, and then updated the online ordering procedure, instead she elected to look incapable of doing her job as a manager and looking completely ignorant. New to the area, and first time at the Sake House. I read mixed reviews and decided to give it a try. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box with an addition California roll. The food came out fast and wasn't disappointing. The ginger salad had a decent dressing although it was heavily watered down. Overall the food wasn't bad but it wasn't great. In conclusion, I would make another visit considering it's a decent meal and close to where I live. read more

My only reason to try out this restaurant is because I had interviewed there before it opened. same as usual, waiters are non english speaking chinese like any other so call japanese restaurant in beaufort area working under the table. besides all this rambling. Service was horrible. very very horrible. Me and my roomies decided to go there one night. we got hibachi dinners and sushi. boy were they slow it wasn't even busy in there and by the time we were finished with our 2nd or 3rd drinks no food showed up. About 40 minutes later no food still and our waiter disappeared on us. I almost feel like they did it on purpose. It took so damn long to make the sushi and it was not even good at all. Went there for a friend's birthday on a Saturday night. Vary slow service even though the place was a quarter full. Our cook burnt himself 3 times, drinks over priced, and our habachi cook messed up everyone's order even though the family told him multiple times how they wanted their food cook. Took my daughter here because she made the honor roll on 01/16/2020 . When we got there, they said we could sit in the back because we had a large group but the chef would not be able to cook for us.We got there a little before 9. They said the chef would not be able to cook for us. Than they moved us to another table . The one waitress was very nice and called the manager because it wasn't that late. The chef came and cooked for us very nice. When I got home I realized that I didn't have my bank card. Called the next day and the young lady was very nasty. I have to agree with the majority of the reviewers on here. We had reservations and still didn't go back for 30 minutes. The place was NOT busy. Our waiter was rude to my dad. He asked for white sauce when the veggies and rice were served. The sauce was sitting right next to the guy in a bottle. The guy looked at him and said "LATER." Had it been up to me we would have left right then but he chose to overlook him. The food wasn't bad but they seriously need to work on their customer service skills. We will NEVER go back. The food here is great and the prices are modest to fair. However the service is very bad. I've had the cook cus in front of my 4 year old son. You may have to go up to the bar to get your own water or silverware if they forgot. Worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant, and I worked in food and beverage as a server and a trainer as well as a manager. We got there approximately 15-20 minutes before 7 pm this evening. Was created very pleasantly by the host and we informed her that we had a party of 8 and wanted a regular table. After looking around she asked us to give her about 15 minutes for 2 tables to leave and they would pull tables together to accommodate us. We had no problem with that. After another party of 6 came in and the tables were pulled together she informed us that we would be eating at a hibachi table as the place they were going to seat us would have been too cramped. No problem, they promptly say the party of 6 at the table we were supposed to go to. Finally being sat, we waited another 15 minutes for our server Ada to greet us. She took our drink order, literally 20 minutes later we received our drinks and our order was taken while she was looking at the clock to make sure the time wasn't 8 when the half price sushi ended. Order taken and she left. She was gone so long that we went to the bar to get our own beverages which were made fairly quickly but it took our incorrect change 20 minutes to get back to us. After another 20 minutes out dumplings, soup, and salads came out. At that time another party of 5 was sat at a hibachi tables and like us, we're ordering off the regular menu. After waiting what seemed like another 30 minutes, the kids finally got the hibachi they ordered but none of the sushi had come out. By this time, the other table had already gotten their drinks, hibachi and sushi and had begun to eat. I walked up to the from bar POS and asked to speak with a manager. I was informed by the host that the manager had left and she asked if there was anything she could do. I told her I had an issue with my table and would greatly like to speak to someone in charge. A debate then broke out wether or not Peter was still in the back. 2 of the girls left to go find him and I returned to my table to see finally that the good had arrived. Drinks took forever, refills, new beer, new rum and cokes - nothing very hard to get or make at the bar. We ate out dinner and then asked for the check. I stepped outside to have a cigarette and on my way out asked if Peter was ever going to come and speak with me, they informed me that he had left. How can you run a business, much less a restaurant without a manager or someone there in charge?!?!? I said that's fine that I will contact them tomorrow. As I came back inside I realized the checks were being paid, and that an automatic gratuity had been added. Yes, I realize it says that it will be added to parties of 5 or more but after all the issues I had and how upset I was, you think someone would have stopped and said, "hey, maybe we shouldn't autograt this table", I guess not. Everyone paid their bills, to include the gratuity and left vowing that we would never return here again and that we would all leave reviews of our experience on any website we could find. The way things were handled for the most part was horrible, I will say there were two who really seemed like they wanted to help but didn't know what to do. One was the host, the other a server who had only been working there for 3 days. The food was great, the sushi was amazing, but unfortunately that now gets overlooked because of all of the other issues and bad service. I don't know what happened, I don't know why 3 parties of 5-7 got in and out in half the time that we sat there waiting. I don't know if Peter was in the building and if he was, why he never came to speak with us. I know had this been my restaurant I would have been bending over backwards to please an unhappy table, especially one that dropped a good amout of money on dinner. I was told that I need to speak with Joanne tomorrow when I call to follow up on this complaint and we will go from there. As of right now, none of us (and the majority are born and raised here including an owner of a very well known and successful salon) will ever go back, nor will we have any nice things to say, and we will be making reviews (which will be this message) on any website and travel site we find. I look forward to hearing from Joanne soon to resolve this issue. Our first time to try this restaurant. Not overly impressed with the set up or the food. I ordered the soba, wife is the salmon and kids went with california roils and an order of gyoza. The noodles in my soba looks like more of a ramen than soba. You don't know the difference? Google it and you will be surprise with the big difference. However, the food still taste good. The kids fare is pretty normal. My wife's dish is not a joke pretty good ginger ranch sauce and the salmon is great. Why only 3 stars? Well, how can you mistake a ramen with soba. read more

The restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly. We were there and learned it was 1/2 off sushi rolls on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.. My mother ordered a salad and teriyaki chicken, and her meal came out about 15 minutes before our meals. She literally took her last bit, when our five rolls made it to the table. The sushi was probably a 7/10 compared to the stuff I get back home. The salmon was of good quality with nice fatty lines, but overall it was not anything to write home about... If it was full price, then I would probably have been disappointed. Again, the staff was really kind and often stopped to see how we were doing, and were able to help us with making our decision with sushi rolls. read more

First things first, the calamari was pretty good I'll give them that. I ordered a bento box with chicken teriyaki. It came rather quickly and i was impressed with the time... i saw why soon enough. The California roll that comes with it LOOKS like it's been sitting out for hours and TASTES like is has been. I mentioned it to my server if the sushi was fresh for order or pre made.
