Ate here for my bday today, it was about 2pm, Saturday. I threw my coupon away for this place the other day because I thought I'd never go due to reviews & especially when I'm having more hibachi tonight for dinner! Justin K. (reviewer below me) & his wife invited me to join. So I went & let me tell you.. it wasn't busy at all or anything so I can't judge on peak times, but our waitress, SHONDA (spelling?), was by far amazing! We had 2 giggling and screaming toddlers with us & she kept assuring us that we were fine & to just let them be happy babies. She kept coming back and was very adequate in everything she did!! Don't use their online ordering. I ordered at 4:08 and it said the order will be done at 4:33. I arrived at 4:40 with my 9 month old son to get there and the girl to tell me they didn't see the online order because they have no hostess and she is just a server so it's not her fault. So I waited another 20+ minutes to relieve my food. When I asked if there is anything she can do for the inconvenience she replied no, because it wasn't her fault. I understand things happen but come on. We like the food here I just think this was unacceptable with no apologies. read more

First things first, the calamari was pretty good I'll give them that. I ordered a bento box with chicken teriyaki. It came rather quickly and i was impressed with the time... i saw why soon enough. The California roll that comes with it LOOKS like it's been sitting out for hours and TASTES like is has been. I mentioned it to my server if the sushi was fresh for order or pre made. She just said "a chef made it" and walked away. The chicken tasted like rubber. It was not good. First time visitor. After reading terrible reviews i wanted to come myself. Generally the food is tolerable at this restaurant but today I'd like to talk about the staff. My wife and I walk in about 749pm and we notice the place is fairly empty with customers. Three staff behind the bar and one on the customer side. Two people in the span of two minutes standing their say to hold on the host will be there in a minute. Mind you most tables are empty. The host finally comes up and says there will be a twenty minute wait. I said but the restaurant is mostly empty. Her response is yeah well we're short handed tonight. Atmosphere is calming and relaxing. Coming from Japan it does have the feel of Teppenyaki restaurants featured there but the prices do not go with the amount of food. I'm all about paying for what you get (provided it's quality food) but I hate paying a lot of money for so-so food. Great place to try once and judge for yourself. read more

HALF PRICE SUSHI ON WED & THURS (after 5pm)! they have gr8 sushi and steak hibachi tastes good too. The wait can be long on busy nights but my kids (2 teenage boys) and I can have our fill of sushi for 25bucks- thats wonderful. We get to have a nice ambiance and good suhi - we are usually not in a rush we take the time to relax and talk :) They may have hired some people because I have never had trouble with the service here (4 family nights, 2 dates and several to go orders). read more

Was a little hesitant eating here after reading some of the reviews, but we gave it a try and were pleasantly surprised! Had hibachi grill for lunch yesterday and Chon the chef, his show, and food were on point and cooked to perfection. Went back the next day for 1/2 price sushi and was again very pleased. Sushi was fresh and had a pretty presentation. Servers on both days were very attentive and helpful. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Beaufort. read more

Was greeted upon entry by female with her head down on the bar area. Food is great, once it comes to the table. I watched as waiter and waitresses were on phones texting, while patrons waited for drinks, service, etc.. It seemed as though the customers were an inconvenience to the wait staff, quality of service is lacking. If you have 2 hours to dine, this is the place, otherwise take a pass. read more

Have you ever wanted to eat sushi at a place where the staff have no qualms about airing their dirty laundry and unloading their baggage to each other in front of customers? Have you ever thought, "I'd love to be a fly on the wall," but never actually had the opportunity to feel like a fly on the wall? Well then you have to eat here! Over the course of a 45-minute lunch at the bar, I was regaled by the staff with tales of man issues involving cell phones, staffing issues involving poor holiday planning and unreliable prospective hires, complaints about local traffic enforcement, and why Beaufort sucks and Atlanta is "so much more awesome" (an argument based primarily on Atlanta having more large, multiplex movie theaters), among other topics. I couldn't believe that staff--including people who were clearly in leadership positions--were having these conversations in front of and within earshot of customers. Usually, those conversations--if they take place at all--are reserved for the back of the house. It was so awesome! Dirty laundry and baggage over miso soup and sushi! I was finally living the dream of being a "fly on the wall!" So, if you're miserable and you want company (because we all know misery loves company!), yet you want that "fly on the wall" anonymity, I highly recommend this place. A year ago I never thought I would be writing this. I have been coming here since we moved to Beaufort a year ago. It has progressively gotten worse and after tonight we will never go back. In our server's defense, she did everything she could possibly do to try and salvage the evening. But she couldn't help that we waited so long to be seated or that the chefs just overlooked our order. The food isn't bad as long as you have the patience to deal with everything else. And don't expect to see any familiar faces the next time you go. I've never seen a place go through the number of employees that this place does. The reality is that they will keep making money off of families here for graduations. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. If you just HAVE to have hibachi go to Mizu. It's on the other side of town and the building isn't as nice, but they know how to treat customers. And the owner is usually the first to greet you. read more

Poorly managed. The Chinese manager was idly watching her phone as the workers are running around wild. In the end, the customers can hear the Chinese manager yelling at a poor girl, for what appears, doing a job. I learned that tips i left don't even go to the waitress! read more

Hmmmm, can yelp please allow lower than one star on this review? Came here the first time with a friend. She and I thought we would get some sushi, have a drink, no problem... It took us so long just get the attention of our server to place our drink order. Then when it seemed completely not possible, took even longer for them to take our food order! We were seated at the sushi bar and we could see all of the orders going in and the food being prepared. Our server never brought us any utensils. A pair of chopsticks anyone? A napkin? Finally, one dish came out. It was our salad and we ate it but it wasn't that good. We had to ask twice for utensils. Then, we saw the sushi just sitting on the counter. Five minutes went by and after 10 minutes, my friend looked at it and said, "I think that's our order!" We waited another five minutes and no one moved the plate of sushi. She stood up, grabbed the dish and asked the sushi chef if it was ours.. He replied, "yes, I think so." So she brought it to our seats. The server came around a minute later and said, "oh good. You got your food!" Really? The manager came by and began to chat up the ladies next to us and ranted about a customer who just chewed her out for the poor service. Ha. So, fast forward a few weeks later and while at home working on a project decided I was starving. I dashed out to this same sushi joint figuring that I would simply walk in, place a to-go order and have a drink while it was made. Thus avoiding the bad service, right? Wrong. I walked in and the hostess ignored me. I stood at the bar and both the girl at the register (2 feet in front of me) and the bartender (5 feet in front of me) also ignored me. A girl walked in behind me and she was there to pick up an order she had called in... Apparently she was employed there and so then all three women start talking to her... About work stuff. Her order is not ready. Ok... While they're talking about some in-house romance/drama, still no one acknowledges me standing there trying to be patient. Then the bartender directed the other two employees that they need to focus on getting candles lit at all the tables. Whoa - it's an hour and a half until close time, they had a customer standing there waiting to be acknowledged and another customer standing there waiting for her food and they wanted to light candles? This is their priority? Finally I spoke up and asked if someone could please take my order. The girl at the register looked at me incredulously and said, "our computer is frozen." So I explained that perhaps she could still take my order and walk it back to the kitchen. Without batting an eye, she said "No, the computer is FROZEN." I lose it. In as calm a voice as I could muster, I addressed all three women allegedly working there and explained why I was about to walk out. Suggested that perhaps they might focus on customer service and at a minimum, greet incoming customers and perhaps explain the computer situation. The bartender (and maybe she was the manager too?) jumped in and said, "I am working on our customer issues but the computer is frozen." I looked her dead in the eye and said, "No, your customer service is frozen. Your computer issues are secondary." No reply. They all just stared at me blankly and I walked out. The food here is mediocre at best and the customer service is below subpar if that is even possible. They are not the only game in town and probably won't last. It has grown quite evident to me that customer service in Beaufort is definitely in question. Don't go here unless you want to subject yourself to poor service and bad food and more poor service. I don't even think it could be called service. If I owned this restaurant, I would've fire these three women on the spot. read more

Went for a family hibachi experience and it was very good. Entertaining chef and tasty food. I'd go back.

Having a waitperson who doesn't understand English makes for a frustrating meal, which was also unsatisfactory. I'll never go back .

The food is good and the service is fair. if you order to go though dont expect any extras. Twice i have ordered combos for pick up and they do not include the salad or the soup. They dont include soy, ginger, or wasabi. the sushi is good but the attention to detail is lacking. read more

The food is ok. The customer service is horrible. It took us about 3 hours to get out of the restaurant our food took so long. The birthday girl in our party didn't even receive her chicken. The manager on duty knew we were having issues and never even came to check on us or offer an type of explanation or discount. Do not eat from sake house (the Japanese restaurant next to Ihop) they do not have a proper working dishwasher and the end result is that you will be eating and drinking from dirty plates, cups and utensils! They have wonderful food. I have to say I'm a big fan of sushie. But one thing I know about service is you want you customers to be happy and have a great time. I took my friend there before she left for boot camp and the food was really got but the service suck. She wasnt wearing the proper clothing, had an attitude and was really rude. Ok so here's the thing, we went in there after reading the reviews and prepared ourselves for less than satisfactory service. We walked in and it seemed pretty busy so naturally it took a couple minutes for someone to notice us, which was no problem. Someone eventually saw us and told us a table was ready. Weird though, it wasn't until 15 minutes after that, that we were sat. So we're at the table, our waitress seems flustered and we tell her to take her time. About 10 minutes later she comes back, nice girl but clearly stressed out. She asked us for our entire order upfront, which we obliged, but didn't bring us waters until 5 minutes after that. All of it was okay with us, we read that service was iffy. But from that point we were served our entire 5 course meal within 5-10 minutes and our table was covered with food. That would have been fine but here's our big issue. The food was just not good. The hibachi chicken was dry and the soup was tasteless, the dressing was watery and the veggies were mush. We knew the service was going to be bad, but the food was such a disappointment. My ranking would probably be lower but I'm all for giving the benefit of the doubt. Well let me start by saying NEVER go to Sake House! EVER! Absolute worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. We had people who had nails sticking out of their chair, waited FOREVER for someone to take our order, refills were a joke, everyone who got hibachi recieved a pathetic excuse for their veggie portion, the birthday girl didn't even get her chicken she ordered, someone in our party was going into labor and asked for their check right away because she had to go to the hospital and they were like oh but did your water break? Like who are you to ask questions?! Give the lady her damn check! And then to end the night I'm pretty sure no one got the right check the first three times. Absolutely unacceptable. Used to come here frequently. Lately the quality of the sushi has declined and the service is abysmal.

This WAS one of our favorite places to eat atleast once a week. They started the half price sushi on Wednesdays so we made it a tradition. The sushi was awesome. Then, the last few times we have gone.....the sushi is about half what it used to be and nowhere near as good. This made me very sad! I wonder if we go on a full price night if it will be any better? This place used to be awesome! My friends and I would go once a month for a wonderful lunch. However, the past 6 months have been a spiral downward! It started small with the rice tasting like it was a week old. When I asked for new rice, they took my plate away and I didn't think it was possible, but they brought worse rice... The next month, rice was better, but the sushi was sub par. The waiter actually argued with me that what I had in front of me was the roll I had ordered when clearly it was not. We haven't had a decent meal there in 6 months. I liked the fact that Wed and Thur used to be half priced sushi, and this last visit, the sign was up, the menu was given to us, but the sushi wasn't half priced and when we received our bill, we were told it was only half priced now at dinner. We were not told this beforehand, and when asked why we were given the half price menu, we were told it was a mistake. We paid full price. Also, there were only two of us only ordering 2 rolls each, salad apps and it took us 44 minutes from the time we were seated to get our sushi. Never again.... read more

I have found that customer service in Beaufort in general is highly lacking in just about every restaurant I have visited. Both fast food and sit down locations. I'm not really sure why, but customer service just isn't a priority here. Sad since there are a few places with some pretty good food but I don't go there because the dining experience is so terrible. So when you read my review, please take this into consideration. Sake House seems to be a favorite for locals, although I have had much better Japanese entrees and sushi (and service) for around the same price or lower elsewhere but it still beats fast food. Expect to grab your own menu, seat yourself, and call down your waiter / waitress when you are ready to order, ready to get your appetizer, need a refill, etc. You may have to get up from time to time if you don't see them walking by or if you need to grab your own silverware. Don't worry, they leave the menu and silverware in plain site and don't seem to mind at all that you have to serve yourself. Oh, and be sure to keep the menu after you order because if you order sushi they will often miss ingredients that you will not know are missing until you are halfway finished with your roll wondering why you don't taste something. The area where they cook your food in front of you is a little better, although the chefs do not have many tricks up their sleeve. They can be comical, which is always nice. Day to day dining, however, leaves much to be desired. If you think you can get out of the poor service with a takeout order, you thought wrong. The wait for takeout orders is also exceptionally long, regardless of how far in advance you place the order. In summary, if you are looking for really great customer service you may just luck out from time to time, but otherwise I suggest you try dinning in the Bluffton / HHI area if you don't want to be disappointed as often. read more

I wish I could give zero stars, because the front of the house is very rude. I use to go here every time I come home to visit from NC, but this last time I go in there the waitress saw me standing at the counter and there was a guy there (I guess he worked there or he is there a lot because they knew him by name) and she completely ignored me and went straight to him. I didn't say anything cause at this point I just want my food. Now it's my turn and if you have a Military ID you get a percentage off, but I guess they have change the rules because I was informed that only active duty Military are allowed the percentage now. Ok that's fine I could have had my husband get out the car and show his ID but whatever not that serious, but what made me mad is she couldn't show me where that rule was and that it had been that way from the beginning, but supposedly no one was enforcing this rule. I ate there for dinner with my Husband for a "date night" this past weekend and after the experience we had I decided I probably will never be back. We were seated and ordered our drinks, then our dinner, that consisted of a sushi appetizer and two hibachi meals. I have an issue with Teryaki so requested them to not put any on my food. The chef made it to the table to cook 25 minutes after ordering and we still did not receive our drinks from the bar. I walked to the bar and got them myself. On the way I asked our server about the sushi and she apologized explaining she forgot. When the chef verified our meals I reminded him of no sauce and he stated he knew. He began cooking and as I watched him pour teriyaki over the vegetables I then decided I had enough. When he went to cook the chicken I yelled out to remind him and he stated he knew. By now dinner was over and we were ready to get out of there. We got our bill of $65 and noticed we were charged full price for the advertised half priced happy hour drinks we ordered. FINALLY 2 HOURS LATER this night was over and we were out the door!! read more

Hands down the worse dining experience I've ever had. I took my spouse out for her birthday and it ended up being a disaster. We were the last two people to sit down at the grill area. We sate down, ordered our meal and received the salad. After we started eating the salad the waitress told us they only had one chef on duty. No worries, he was almost done with the other table he was cooking at. The problems began when he skipped our table and went to the next table. The waitress then came over and told us that he would be another 1/2 hour before he could make it to us and we could shift our order to kitchen so we did thinking it would get to us faster...not so. The chef finished up on the other table and then finally started on our table for the remainder of the people that still wanted it cooked in front of them. The chef completed their order and left the table and our food was still not at our table from the kitchen. As my wife and I got up to leave the food finally came to the table. The wife and I asked to get our food boxed up, the waitress caught an attitude with us and the lady at the cash register. Over all, 1 hour and 20 minutes ended up with over priced to go trays. read more
