Sake Japanese Restaurant hit the spot! We sat down and were promptly brought our soup and salad and the chef didn't come out much later. He pulled out all the stops while cooking our food and was very friendly. I'd give the food he prepared a 9/10. Everything was nice and salty and cooked down perfectly, I would just deduct a point because I think he could've used a little bit less sauce, it felt like some of the food was drowning in it. First off, food was good. Hibatchi chef was entertaining and made great food. Unfortunately, we won't be back. Service was quick, but we had a difficult time with a female server. Our party ordered both hibatchi and sushi. The server informed us that next time, more people needed to order hibatchi "to pay for the hibatchi chef" and our party would be split to a table and a hibatchi table. She repeatedly stressed 8% of tip money goes to the chef, both before and literally while we were tipping. It honestly was off putting and distasteful. Perhaps some cultural differences? Just okay. We have come here more often just because of the 1/2 off sushi M-T. I'm a little disappointed in the menu as they don't have bento boxes or chicken teriyaki. It's either sushi or the hibachi. The shrimp is fantastic and veggies. The fried rice is not good at all! I didn't know fried rice could be messed up so badly. Will not be going back to this location. The Asian lady who handles the bills is horrible. I had a gift card that was given to me during Covid and the lady not sure if she was the manager or owner told me I couldn't use it because it had expired. It was a written expiration date. I would think that they would take it because during Covid no one was allowed to go out. But she said they offered carry out so it could have been used. First of all the hibachi carry out is disgusting and I don't live close to the restaurant. After I talked to my lawyer friend about what she said to me and he told me that it is against the law for merchants to put an expiration date on a gift certificate less than 2 years (Ohio) in some cases no less than 5 years (federal law). The Gift certificate was expired by 3 months from the 1 year they issued it. That location is crooked and that lady needs to know the law if she's going to run a business! I'm telling all my friends not to go to that location! Better Hibachi restaurants that I would give my business to, TOKI (Lebanon) and OSAKA (Beavercreek). Come for the sushi deal! This resturant has a 50% off sushi deal Mon-Thurs. Their sushi is good, but the deal is what keeps me coming back. You can even get a Sushi dinner or their sushi & sashimi combo for 50% off, these items come with a miso soup and ginger salad. Great deal! I got the combo last time, it is chefs choice but I got 6 basic tuna rolls, 6 nigiri (variety), and 6 sahsimi (also variety). It was yummy and very filling. This time I got some of the special rolls. Unless otherwise noted the special rolls have 6 pieces. I got the Bonzai roll and the futo maki roll (8 pieces). They were both good. The Bonzai roll is great if you wish to avoid rice. We also got a crab rangoon appetizer (5) which is not part of the 50% off deal. That being said they were delicious, they didn't short us on filling (I like lots of filling in my crab rangoons). I plan to return to this resturant for the 50% deal. I would also return to try out the Hibachi which was very busy for a Wednesday night. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for lunch today! We didn't wait at all! It was around 2pm on Monday afternoon. He got the dynamite roll & Samurai roll because he really likes fried sushi! He was really impressed and he was really glad it was crunchy! I had the rainbow roll and the salmon love roll because I was going for a little healthier of an option! What lured my family and I into the restaurant was the allure of half off sushi... plus if we could get our military discount added, that would be even better! My family of four was quickly seated into a pretty cool looking booth... but weren't given enough utensils for four people. Ehh. After some awkward talk with our server, my family and I decided on going for the sushi. We ordered the spider roll, dragon roll, philadeliphia roll, crab stick sushi, rainbow roll... and a few more whose names I can't recall. I can't say the sushi was delicious. I can't even say the sushi was good. The sushi was just ok. Nothing more, nothing less. The only good that came out of the meal was that my H finally got the chance to try Sapporo beer (we haven't had Japanese in a long while). My party of four was attracted to this establishment by the lure of half-off sushi. Parking was easy to find and take. After walking in, we were quickly seated to a booth with two sets of silverware and seat cushions... We ended up snatching the rest from a nearby booth haha. I look down at the mini sushi plate that we've been given and I see that there is trace of previous food marks; like hardened sauce that has not been fully cleaned off. Bad.. To say the least. The lettuce wasn't fresh/as crisp as ideal, and the dressing definitely looked of being store-bought. It was so liquidy and NOT "grainy" with real ginger at all. It tasted watered down. Little disappointment aside, all of our sushi came out. We ordered a bunch. Salmon-katsu rolls, eel rolls, California rolls, rainbow rolls, soft-shelled crab rolls, spider rolls, dragon rolls, etc. It was.. All right. I've certainly had better sushi, but it wasn't too terrible. The sushi was lukewarm. My salmon-katsu roll was half crunchy, half soggy. My brother claimed that he felt a bone in the eel roll as he chewed (although I feel that this happens a lot with any eel roll, really; tiny bones!), and that soft-shell crab was as if it was on its way to hardening haha. Lastly, I thought this was the funniest--my brother-in-law had ordered a crab-stick sushi piece and it was literally just a piece of imitation crab meat slab over half a tablespoon or so of rice! It looked so odd... Sushi should be proportional to the rice! We also thought we'd come for the military or student discount. Having both, I prepared for the waiter. However, he claimed that the discounts were only available with the hibachi. Womp. The website didn't disclaimer any of that. All of that for ~$70... The manager is RUDE!! I ordered to go and didn't get my soup and salad and the food was cold and she said my dinner didnt come with it. I told her that I get the same thing every time I eat there and that it has always come with soup and salad and she was loud and rude and hollared at me that no it didn't. She didn't even address my issue about it being cold or try to fix anything and instead bit my head off for even calling. The food is too pricey to be cold and not get your entire order. Sorry, but anyone that's had decent sushi is not going to be a fan of this place. One positive comment: Our waitress was very attentive. For four rolls, 2 pieces of saba nigiri, a small sake, and a soup and salad... $30 would usually be a phenomenal deal. The problem is that the ingredients are beyond dismal. This place had the worst mackerel I've ever had. It was DRY. I've never had DRY nigiri before... it was yellowed around the edges as well. I LOVE mackerel prepared as sushi and cooked as an entrée. I was in complete disbelief from the quality of it there. The sushi rolls were not any better. The sushi rice itself was cold and flavorless. The rolls were very poorly rolled and unevenly cut (all things that would be forgiven if the ingredients were palatable). But they weren't. The crawfish in the New Orleans rolls tasted a bit... dirty? We were choking down our rolls... Just trying to get the dinner over with. I barely touched my sake... Which is odd, because I usually adore hot sake. We're just very disgruntled. Believe it or not, we've had decent 50% sushi up in Cincinnati (at Drunken Bento, if you're wondering)... But this sushi is made of very poor ingredients, including the sushi rice. We won't be back. :( read more

I really enjoy this spot, I love the Mon-Thur 1/2 price sushi!! That even includes sashimi which is fantastic if your not trying to eat a bunch of rice or extra sauces with your fish. The plate of sashimi was a total of 16 pieces for $22.... $11 after the discount! you can't beat that! The only thing I wish is that I could have picked what types of sashimi I wanted on the dinner plate. I did order 2 rolls, the presentation was a little lack luster, but they were very good and so I didn't mind that. I will have to make sure to get my favorite, the dragon roll, next time and see if they actually shape it out like a dragon that you see often at most places. They had a different variety of rolls with names I haven't seen before so I liked that for some house creativity points! The service was excellent!! My rolls and sashimi practically jumped right out the boat and onto my plate! Everything was fast and fresh and like I mentioned the service was very friendly and on point. Not the best place for Habachi grill. No one speaks decent English so our order was messed up for four of our guests. No attention to details. Hibachi chef left the grill with food on it twice! Less than acceptable meat products. The decor is dated, the chairs are torn, and their is sticky stuff on the tables. My husband said there is a bottle of 409 in the bathroom, and there is Lyme build-up on the faucets to match. 2nd time and last time here. The waitress was rude, and extremely disrespectful. I understand they prefer to run with a fuller table but making someone wait a half an hour (especially on a weekday lunch) is too much.
