Ok, not first time to the concept or even restaurant but this specific location. It definitely had some things better than other location I've been to. I'm not a fan of small plates for things like chicken wings, they didn't have ahi (maybe time), but they kept things stocked and clean. Service was good but food was a bit slow from the grill. Pleasantly surprised at this all-you-can-eat buffet. We went during lunch times where it was about $17.99 (dinner is $25.99). The place setting was giving high-end. From the marble countertops design to cozy booths and warm lighting. The hibachi grill was unlimited but you do have to ask for a second bowl (the waitstaff are very friendly). The sushi bar and desserts sections were great! My favorite part was probably where all the fried foods were in little fried baskets. I thought that the presentation for that took it home. Loved the portion sizes of everything, I think it's very waste-conscious. You try a little of everything and if you don't like it you're not wasting food. First time in a place like this. Great idea in concept! @$32 per person and you can do hibachi buffet, apps, sushi buffet! I think they did a pretty good job for what it is. Had the standard rolls (dragon, California, eel, cucumber, and fruits!). Some of the apps were great (octopus balls, spare ribs). I wasn't able to try them all just way too many! When the hibachi came out I was full- but it was great as well. Really enjoyed the experience and the quality was more than I expected! We were really excited to try this place, and the restaurant itself made a great first impression. The atmosphere was outstanding, the buffet was organized very well, and everything looked beautiful and very clean. It definitely feels like a fun place to visit. There were also several items we really enjoyed. The tempura was good, the sweet potato fries were tasty, and we liked the dumplings and the crab in the shell. The dessert section was also very nice and gave us a good way to finish the meal. Unfortunately, the main hibachi dishes didn't live up to the rest of the experience. The fried meat and vegetables were fairly bland, and the meat itself was tough. After eating, both my girlfriend and I ended up with stomach aches, which was disappointing. Because the restaurant looks so nice and is run so well, we really hoped the food would match the experience. I was on my way home from work when my son texted and told me if I didn't get home soon he was going for sushi without me. Thankfully, I made it in time! He took me to the new Tokyo Buffet by the Fairfield Mall. It costs more than the one by the Dayton Mall, but the selection is much better. They have three times as many appetizers, including seared scallops, ribs, wings, fried squid, fried scallops, and takoyaki. The length of the appetizer bar is nearly as long as the full bar at the Dayton Mall location. The sushi was fresh and delicious, my favorite was the white tuna tartare with tobiko. I enjoyed the desserts, but if you like super sweet dessert you might be disappointed. The match mousse crepe cake was really good. The servicié was great, especially for a new location. We've been going to this place for several months. They have five buffet sections: a hibachi grill where you build your own bowl, a buffet with very small servings under a heat lamp, a Hot and Sour soup tureen, a sushi bar, and a dessert refrigerator. We don't get the hibachi any more because the pieces are cut too large for us. We concentrate on the other four sections. The small servings buffet are decent, but nothing to write home about. The Hot and Sour soup is to die for. I don't eat the sushi, but my husband does, and he likes it, but it's not fancy. The dessert refrigerator has things like cut up fresh fruit, small puddings and tapiocas, bite sized eclairs and tiramisu and ice cream. This isn't the best Chinese/Japanese food we've ever had, but we do love the soup. read more

This was a new experience for my family. We've had Hibachi, had sushi, but not like this. It was better than expected. The stir fry/hibachi was really good, good flavor, not over cooked, not under, just spot on. The "sides" had a great variety to choose from and were all kept warm and crunchy without over being over cooked by the warmers. I only ate a few sushi rolls and they were just as good and flavorful as those I had gotten at other restaurants. All in all don't let the word "Buffet" turn you away from this one. An amazing assortment of delectable Japanese foods. I have traveled to Japan and can tell you the options at Tokyo Grill are outstanding! This is my second time in 2 wks. at Tokyo Grill, and I learned what to do from last visit so I don't feel overly full and uncomfortable. I will recommend getting the buffet since the buffet price includes a stir fry bowl. If you order the bowl alone, it's $2 less than the buffet so pay the $2 more and enjoy the many options available along with the bowl. Caution: If you fill your bowl with too many vegetables and meats, by the time that is cooked and brought to your table, you will already have sampled many of the other dishes and will be full. Oh - if you don't want your stir fry ingredients to be seasoned, you need to note that on the little slip of paper that comes with the bowl otherwise they add their seasonings to yours if you choose to add any, so it might end up being salty. Learned my lesson the first time not to add seasoning and just let them do it. The buffet includes a stir fry bowl, assortment of sushi, assortment of seafood, vegetables, meats, desserts, and fresh fruit. So good and worth the buffet price! I'll be back! read more

Best new asian buffet in Dayton, OH!! The buffet offered a good selection of fresh meats and veggies for their hibachi dishes, which were made right in front of you. You get a Hibachi bowl to which you add your own ingredients + all-you-can eat sushi, sashimi, tempura and other items. The Mongolian grill part was pretty awesome and they had a ton of options to choose from. My only issue was the beef was a bit chewy and the Yakisoba noodles were more like Ramen noodles. Get the Udon noodles instead. They had a fried section that had a random assortment of foods that were just ok. The Sushi section was actually pretty decent considering it's a buffet! And you will want to come back for more! The waiters are all so nice too, which amplifies the already great restaurant. My favorite things I've gotten here are the Hibachi bowl and the Strawberry Mousse cake. So delicious. I put steak and scallops in mine. Don't forget to season your bowl too. My least favorite things I've gotten are the Creme Caramel and the Octopus Salad. But I highly recommend everyone come here and try everything. I know what you are thinking: buffet? Ugh, everything will be watered down and not as good. I am happy to report: false! The price point for lunch is a little lower-21.99 than the dinner-31.99. We came at a little before noon on a Saturday. The place was pretty quiet, but picked up quite a bit by the time we were halfway through. Much like other buffets, they sit you down, ask what you would like to drink (we opted for just waters this visit). They briefly explain that the hibachi is included in the buffet, and then you are off to the races. The rundown of stations: Hibachi-much like a bds Mongolian or regular hibachi without the fancy chef show-you pick out your raw veggies and proteins and put them in a bowl. There is a small piece of paper with noodle and rice options. You fill it out, slide it and your bowl to the cooking station and then continue on your buffet journey-the waitstaff will bring your cooked bowl back to the table. Fried Station All the fried things-moz stick, spring roll, chicken skewer, tempura shrimp, taro ball, fries. It has a lot of random treats. Of all the stations, this was my least favorite. There were some fun items, but fried foods are best served hot and extra crispy. Many of these items didn't have a punch of flavor and could have used another minute in the oil. Soup: our choices were miso and hot and sour. I don't know if they rotate in new flavors, but the hot and sour was delicious with a nice kick of flavor and the miso was exactly as advertised. Hint: go easy on the green onion garnosh-it is easy to overdo in your enthusiasm. Sushi: This is really the star of the show. A generous assortment of raw, cooked, vegetarian, and dessert! sushi. Rarely do you get a chance to sample rolls you are curious about but haven't wanted to order in full roll form. Get as many pieces as you want. It really is the best deal for the price point. Dessert: A cold case with petit four size dollops of pudding, fruit, cake, cheesecake, gelatin, mousse. The assortment is plentiful. My favorite of the day was an espresso mousse cake while the dark forest cake was just flavorless and dense. Another star of the experience was the staff-very attentive, kind, and moved lightning fast around the dining area. You will leave overstuffed (it is a buffet, so no takeaway boxes), so def come hungry. Really great experience and we will return! read more

You walk down the line and add raw veggies and meat to your bowl and they get cooked and brought out to you along with your choice of rice or noodles (three kinds of each).
