They took my order and did not mention until I went to pick it up 30 minutes later that they were under new ownership and a new name and did not have the same menu items. I got way more than what's pictured but I really enjoyed the Coto Roll most. It's crunchy and crispy. We also got a spicy salmon roll (I think) and the rice was sloppy. It's not high quality in the slightest, but it's decent sushi. The spicy yellowtail was good though! The beef bowl was disappointing. Some of the meat was tough, and a majority of the bowl was just vegetables. When I come back, I'd probably steer towards the speciality rolls because that one was actually quite nice. Inside is pretty small, but there's maybe 1-2 tables that would fit over 5. Service can be quite slow, but the people are so so so friendly! read more

We used to come here weekly for a decade (no exaggeration)... we stopped. Why... I'm truly not sure. Well, today we went back for an "old time sake's" lunch. It was fantastic. The same friendly owner was there to great us. It was lunch so there weren't a ton of people there, but about 1/3 full. The seating is comfortable and I have always loved the mix of music playing. The prices have gone up like everywhere but the quality and quantity of fish was fantastic. We got the Hamachi Carpaccio. Many places only give you 5 pieces of fish in an appetizer but not Saki... it came with 8. It was delicious! Check the pictures! We got a few of our favorite basic rolls and realized they had so many more options now! I came here for lunch the other day on a weekday. It was 11:45 so it was empty when we arrived (opens at 11:30). I will break it down as best as I can. Service- 3/5, could have been better considering we were the only ones there for the first 15 minutes. It took a while to put in our order and my lunch combo (sashimi and tempura) came out at separate times. Also they could have been friendlier to my mom. Food- 3.5/5 salmon was good and tasted fresh. The tuna was above average (esp for RSM) but not amazing. I liked the tekka maki (good proportion of fish to rice). Wish the miso soup came with more tofu and wakame! I liked the rice, well polished. Salad was average. Ambiance- 3.5/5 it was clean and pretty quiet, decent decor. Overall, I give it a 3./5. It is a bit pricy for the quality but since there are limited good sushi options in south Oc, I will likely return. read more

My second visit to Sake Sushi was DRASTICALLY different from the first. First time, service was great, food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun. This time? Nothing even close. We waited OVER an hour for 3 rolls. They had 2 chefs, 2 servers, and there was 3 other parties seated. One chef was too busy drinking with the people seated in front of him, and one of the servers was too busy playing with one of the parties babies. After over an hour wait, we got up and walked out, never even got to see our food, which is a shame because last time it was very good. read more

I've been here a few times now and while they do have friendly service and very good food there's a couple major service issues that keep me from rating them higher. The issues seem to stem from staffing. I understand that labor is one of the biggest expenses at a restaurant, however service is a major part of the deliverable. This is especially true at peak times. Both food and service must be great to earn the highest ratings. The restaurant should have at least one additional server and one additional sushi chef. One of the reasons to go out for sushi is to be served quickly. After ordering out food we waited for over 40 mins. During this time we weren't offered any refills or new drinks even though a wine glass was empty and the water glasses were low. It wasn't for lack of effort, they just didn't have enough staff for the amount of tables and guests they had. Having just two sushi chefs also caused major delays because they could only put out food as fast as two people could. Again, it wasn't for lack of trying and the food was good. But one more sushi chef would've helped get the food out much faster. I like this place and they are very friendly and try to do their best, but they need to make the commitment to better service to truly be a great place. read more

The food is good, the service is horrible. It's a tiny place. We went there on a Tuesday evening for a nice date night, there were 4 servers for total 3 tables (10 people incuding 2 of us). After 15 minutes waiting we decided to walk to the counter to ask for water. We thought someone would come to give us the order slip. Nope, you have to ask for it. Waiters were running around as there were 100 people... After a point they kept asking us if they can bring us the check. We decided not to order anything else, we payed $90 with tip for 2 of us, and continued enjoying our company and what left on our plate. What really blew the last fuse at the end was that they told us in an extremely rude manner: "since you are done, you have to leave because people are starting to clean up!" Excuse me! There were still another table, we still had food, and it was 9.10pm! They close at 9.30pm! We literally have to stand up and leave because they wanted to clean up!!! Horrible service!!! For the business owner: It's America. If you choose to be open till 9.30pm, that means you accept guest/orders till that point! And not that you are closed by that time! If you want to close earlier, change your schedule as well as the way you speak to your customers! Horrible customer service! We will not come back here nor will recommend this place! I had no idea this sushi place was right in my backyard basically! Thanks to a search for dinner on yelp, it popped up! We went around 5:15 and easily got a table on Friday night. By 6pm there was a small wait. Our waitress was super friendly and as we ordered drinks, she shouted them out to someone else who had them at our table almost as fast as our waitress walked away. Love that!!! Super efficient. I noticed there was no pricing on the menu, which was a bit odd to me. I'm guessing the pricing was on the ordering sheet, but I didn't fill it out so I can't be certain. I also was treated to dinner, but was told the pricing was decent, which is awesome with sushi. I ordered a small hot sake which was $5, that price was listed, and it was four shots. It was DELICIOUS. I'm not always the biggest fan on sake but I really enjoyed the flavor of this one. Unfortunately I got full super fast so I didn't eat a ton, but what I ate was amazing. I did not try the Caterpillar Roll that was ordered but it looked good! There was another roll that had cooked salmon and eel on top that I tried, minus the eel that was good - no idea what it was called. The Choleste-Roll, Stinky Role, Albacore Rock N Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll were amazing. I think my favorite was the Choleste-Roll. Also, the Garlic Edamame was so good, had a bit of a lemon flavor to it. I am so happy to have found this little gem tucked in RSM, in the Pavilions center. I will be back! read more

What a gem of a place! I've lived in RSM for seven years, but had not been here until about a month ago. We ended up here because it was a Tuesday and the Taco Tuesday line was far too long at another place in the center, and boy, I'm happy! This place is a great find! We always get the bento box combos. You can select either two or three options. Note that there are no substitutions, and they are pretty strict on that. (e.g. I wanted a cucumber roll instead of the California roll, but that's a no no) There is limited indoor seating, and they also appear to do a pretty good take out business. The food is terrific but they never answer the phone to place to go orders or to make a reservation. It's very frustrating as a customer who wants to support them but does not always want to sit inside the restaurant to eat. To make it worse they have links to sites for delivery and when you click link it says delivery isn't available. I don't want to take my business elsewhere but looks like they are making it too difficult. We just went there to place a to go order (5:45pm) and were told no more to go orders. Trying to support local restaurants but it is not easy. Need to find a new sushi restaurant as this has been happening weekly with them for a couple months. This is our new favorite spot, and I can't say enough good things. We were welcomed and greeted so kindly with enthusiasm. Must be a hidden gem because it was not busy. The first time we went and definitely not busy the second time we went. The sushi is on point, clean and fulfilling. It's a fun environment but also means trouble because it's inviting and it makes you want to stay longer there for you eat more. I suppose that's a good problem to have. This place had great sushi. We came in about 40 minutes until closing and were seated right away. The service was great; quick and very friendly. I did not catch our servers name, she was a little older and of asian ethnicity, she was very friendly and even tried entertaining my baby. She also told me happy mothers day with a small gift. We ordered toro, yellowtail and belly & salmon sashimi. We also ordered 3 rolls I cant remember the names of. Everything was very clean and tasted really fresh. We will definitely be coming back. I also thought their prices were pretty reasonable. My husband and I dined here recently for a late dinner after a night at the theater. They were the only restaurant in the area that didn't have their hours posted on Yelp, so we gave them a call finding out that they were open until 9:30 pm on a weeknight. It was approximately 8:45 pm and all of the other restaurants in the area showed a 9:00 pm close time. I hate running into establishments just under the wire otherwise. We were pleasantly surprised seeing that there were two new waitresses serving the tables that were much more pleasant and personable than the other waitress we had always dealt with. There were also their usual two sushi chefs cheerily behind the counter making a couple of rolls for the other patrons and what seemed to be a cashier or manager at the register. The most people working in the restaurant that I've seen at any given time. Their usual grumpy, harsh waitress seemed to be nowhere in sight. Good. I ordered a side order of gyoza and a eel specialty roll to share alongside my teishoku meal of a spicy ahi roll and mixed tempura combo. My husband had his own teishoku meal, so we ended up having too much food between the two of us. The gyoza and sushi rolls were very fresh and tasty, and our main dishes were just good at most. My husband felt that the sauce was too sweet on his beef and I've had better tasting tempura. All in all we had a much better experience, so we can definitely say that we'll be back! read more

When my friends Bill and Norma told me they wanted to take me to dinner for Sushi in RSM, I wondered - really? Good sushi in South Orange County? I didn't sit at the bar though so know that this review is for the table service. Service wasn't bad, considering I believe two of the servers were new as they kept referring to the two other more experienced servers for answers to some of the questions I had for them. Otherwise, they were attentive and pretty friendly. One of them even brought out some Miso Soup and rice for my friends' baby (Miranda). The sushi wasn't bad either. A few of the dishes were not my cup of tea as 1) the popcorn lobster - the lobster was overcooked and the cuts were very small. 2) The stinky roll was all garlic - great if you love garlic but went for sushi. One dish was particularly nice - the double tuna roll. If you like tuna, it's pretty good. It's an OK joint for considering there aren't many options in the area. It's not badly priced either. Parking is easy as it's in a fairly good sized shopping center and the decor inside is modern and clean. I'd go back if I were obligated but I won't make the trip from North Orange Country just to go here. read more
