Loved Zenko! We did all you can eat sushi which they do every day of the week and I thought it was great. It's a pretty casual place with very friendly and helpful staff. We prioritized more nigiri and less of the hand cut rolls which were both great. For me, the special items really impressed including the Green Baked Mussels which were super flavorful, the crispy rice, spam musubi, and takoyakis. The ambiance was good! The service was also good! The food not so much anymore ! It was great when they first open under new owner & management but now for some reason the quality of their food has gone downhill! Why ?!!!! Makes me sad because we were always willing to go for sushi here and drive atleast 9miles but unfortunately tonight was terrible. The bento became small and not even worth getting it as the food also wasn't good quality. The beef terriyaki that we got was almost all gristle!!! The sauce was good but having to eat gristle beef terriyaki wasn't really a good experience for me and my kids... The sushi's were good but the dragon eel really barely have eel!!! Waitress came one time on the waitress never came back to fill our drinks. She and she only came to our table just to serve our orders. They didn't ask if we if you want to refill them anything to drink so the owner came by the service wise they can improve on the server. The chef probably could take some more lessons the food's falling apart and when we pick it up overall it's it's average. Only thing they offered was just a all. You can eat them. We came here on a Tuesday for AYCE lunch. We were overall satisfied with the experience. Our server was very friendly and efficient. We were the only customers there at the time. Our orders came out pretty quickly. The sushi was fresh and I enjoyed everything I ordered. The appetizer section was lacking my favorite items that are commonly offered at similar sushi restaurants in this price range. There is no shrimp tempura, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki or salmon collar. The fish to rice ratio wasn't good- too much rice in the nigiri. I also wish they offered seared & cajun nigiri like other restaurants do. They don't offer green tea ice cream or mochi ice cream to end the meal which would have been nice. Making these changes would earn a 5 star review and put it on par with the better AYCE sushi restaurants. Otherwise not a bad option if you're in the area. Prices: weekday lunch Mon-Fri till 4pm $33. This is great local AYCE sushi. The service was so nice and friendly. The sushi and other sides all came out fast. The fish tasted fresh especially the salmon. The rolls were all good with decent rice to fish ratio. There are also a couple other special treats offered - halibut, sashimi in a martini glass, and fatty toro. All great. I'm not sure why this place has only 3.5 stars. We came here for the all you can eat sushi. We were greeted by friendly staff and started ordering right away. I'm not usually a big fan of all you can eat sushi because the fish is often not the freshest and you have to chase down the wait staff to place any additional orders. These people were not hiding and they weren't shy with the portions! The fish was fresh and each of the plates were better than the last. Extremely rude and aggressive Korean owner/employee made a huge fuss when I did not eat all the rice. He told me not to come again! We (senior citizens) were shocked by this aggressive behaviour that may be accepted in hls country, but not here. I think they should get a fresh rating system because it's a completely new owner and excellent new menu. I've known Zenko for years now and this place is amazing now. As a south county local we would come here once in a while because it's closer, but now it beats everything else in Orange County. The improvement from the past is noticeable when you see the quality of the fish. They have soft, buttery sushi, that tastes extremely fresh. The rice has the perfect consistency and the menu is bigger with exciting new options. The people working there are incredibly nice and clearly experts at making sushi. Great service, pro chefs. They have rearranged the inside with more natural light and background music. The ambiance is cozy. read more

First impression was great. Super cute atmosphere, lots of tvs and cute decorations. Semi okay as far as quality... sushi roll bases are pre-rolled and prepped. Nigiri was very good however rolls not so much. Everything seemed okay until we saw a dog in the kitchen. A black frenchie walking around in the back kitchen which popped its head out twice. I went here to tonight for my Kids birthday to celebrate and had a subpar experience. From the moment we walked The owner was rude immediately. He was aggressive and had a poor tone. 2 people out of our group had AYCE and the other ordered off the menu. During our dining experience, the owner starred at us from a corner chair across the room the ENTIRE Meal! It was very off putting and creepy. We were all very uncomfortable. Not to mention the quality of the fish was not good. The salmon was slimy and tasted bland. Made me sick to my stomach and when I mentioned it to the server. That I could not eat the salmon the owner came by and got defensive. This is not the place to go to. The owner sucks and the food is mid. Stay far away. read more

The new ownership of this place is fantastic! Not only is the food delicious, they are so friendly every time we go in there. My last opportunity to go there I had a big group of people we called a few hours before and they accommodated us with no issues. If you're not gonna serve food an hour before closing, which is absurd, you should advertise that and/or tell people who took the time to call ahead that you have to arrive by a certain time. If you want all-you-can-eat sushi, this is the place. There's no way to eat all that you can actually order. It's three rounds and my 6'4" son was starving. I think he made it to the second round. I don't remember the price, but very very reasonable. I ordered off the regular sushi menu, so you can mix and match, too. Great place. read more

I hadn't been here before the management change so I can't speak to the difference in quality but I CAN say that whatever this new management is doing, they're doing it well! I went in with a friend on a weeknight, we were able to be seated really quickly (which is great, since my other favorite AYCE sushi spot takes FOREVER - for good reason but still!), and they answered any questions we had right away. We got to ordering and honestly the rolls came out so quickly but they tasted wonderful, fresh, and were also presented beautifully too. We never felt rushed but our server definitely came in to check on us a few times, topped off our waters, etc. and my friend and I had a great time. The place was relatively empty but I can see how that will change once people pick up on the management change and quality! The store itself was clean and nicely-lit. This is an old favorite for us, as the quality and price were always a treat. So we gathered the family and grabbed lunch. The restaurant hasn't been updated in a long time, but is still reasonably clean. Staff used to be very engaged and friendly, but that seems to have diminished over the years. The food was still very good and offers a ton of variety for an all you can eat meal. They also have great offerings if you just want an order and eat options. Probably the toughest pill to swallow is the price increase! Lunch used to be around $17 and dinner $25, now lunch is $28 and $35 for dinner, which is pricey and a huge jump. A warm and inviting sushi restaurant in south OC. Food is decent but they give a lot of rice. Rice was a little bland than most sushi rice I've had. My favorite were there tempura shrimp 5/5 The eel was good 4/5 Spicy scallops 5/5 nice and plump Yellowtail was good 4/5 Salmon skin hand roll was also very good 5/5 Rest of sushi were just ok 3/5 They also have escolar and sea bream on their sushi menu which isn't super common.
