I visited Sakoon just a few days before I left Baltimore, and I was amazed by the flavor profiles and service. 4 of us went to Sakoon on a Wednesday midafternoon and we were the only ones there. We were given ample time to look over the menu (I hate being rushed!), and we ordered various things. I ordered the tandoor salmon, and WOW! The salmon was cooked perfectly and had an amazing flavor. It was brought out a hot plate, but I noticed they put a thin layer of veggies to avoid the salmon getting burnt or further cooking (such attention to detail!). The marinade was so yummy. I also ordered the mango juice, which was delicious and tasted like my favorite childhood mango juice box. The rest in my party ordered the chicken tikka appetizer, vegetable samosa (came with 2 pcs. which were the size of baseballs), garlic naan (they graciously gave us more on the house), and more. They also ordered the mango lassi and really enjoyed the taste and smoothness. They also gave us these fried veggie appetizers on the house, but I can't recall what they were called. Their portions were big and plenty. Overall, my party and I enjoyed our meal and I also appreciated that they gave us our checks separately, saving us all the hassle of splitting the check and zelle/venmo-ing the money afterwards. I was in Baltimore for 8 weeks and it's shame I visited Sakoon so late, because it was such a great experience. The next time I'm in Baltimore, I'll definitely be coming back. Thank you! read more

So was looking for a place to dine before an event with my wife and a friend. The event was close by and we all love Indian food. I was a little thrown off by the 4.1 stars but I was also intrigued by the menu which also listed Indo-chinese dishes. The interior design with beautiful paintings and artifacts was bright but cozy. The wait service was very quick and helpful, especially considering we needed help deciding on a goat dish and something indo-chinese. We also were treated to on the house papdi and garlic naan! The food we chose were hits with each of us. We shared the mushroom saag which was rich and creamy. Really heavenly! The Bhuna goat which had sweet and spicy notes was also delicious. Finally had some chicken momos which were also good if you like a momo. All in all a wonderful meal and experience. 5 stars plus! read more

I really like the weekday lunch buffet! Might be the Mandela effect but I remember a year ago, the bottomless naan you could pick between garlic or regular naan but not anymore (or might've paid for it without realizing). Very good and cheap and a lot of options, though I'm pretty basic and enjoy unlimited chicken tikka masala, naan, desserts, and mango lassi (which I think is the Costco big bottle one). They also have a student discount so only came to around $20. But awesome place for cheap and good eats. read more

Came here for the buffet after doctors appointment, medium selection of chicken. The red chili chicken was the best. The service was pretty cool because I really didn't talk to anybody and I just went directly to the food so that was fine. They were kind and did greet me as I walked in. This is our go to. My partner (whose dad is from Mumbai) and I love this place. I know I can always rely on Sakoon for comfort food for my honey when they're having a bad day and need a hug in food form. We have never had anything bad from here, from the beloved classics (butter chicken and tikka masala) to the food that he grew up eating and ate in India (fish chili and kheer) we are obsessed. I love everyone at and the vibe of sakoon. It's our little escape. The chefs really are turning out amazing meals here. Couldn't ask for more. read more

Food was pretty good. Portion size was fairly decent . Came here after a long flight and it welcomed us in the late hours. If you get some dishes, in some orders there are two sizes, when ordering the smaller dishes you may need to order rice or breads separately. ( it's not noted) Orders are done through a digital menu and they're fairly quick to bring out the food. Please look nice nothing fancy, very local vibe. Helpful and attentive staff. I can't comment on what their dine-in service is like but the food was delicious. For delivery, I ordered the butter chicken, chicken korma, and the rogan josh (lamb curry). And you can't forget the naan. What is curry if its not with its main chick naan? butter chicken - chicken thigh in a fenugreek sauce was good. Its a safe bet when it comes to Indian curry. chicken korma - chicken in a saffron cashew sauce. The sauce was creamy and smooth but the chicken was on the drier side. rogan josh - lamb in a tomato based sauce with yogurt and saffron. This was my favorite. The lamb's distinct flavor paired well with the sweet tomato curry. Each dish came with a tray of rice. Yes a tray so you do get a decent amount. The garlic naan was disappointment. I was hoping for the usual soft, chewy texture but instead it was dry and tough to chew. read more

A biryani is typically known for its delicate flavors and use of aromatic spices. The rice was drowning in food coloring and salt. You get the feeling they did not have a biryani or was prepared to make one. They simply slapped together a hodgepodge mixture of salt, food coloring, hot spice and corriander leaves. This was wretched food with the salt and the hot spice dominating the meal to help hide the misery. Even though I emphasized I did not want the food to be spicy. Have been here more than a few times and have been satisfied with the offerings, but this was culinary sadism at it's worst. read more

I'm obsessed with this place! Some of the best mango lassi that I've found thus far in the Baltimore area. Their buffet, while better (and slightly more expensive) on weekends, is fantastic value at ~$16/person. They offer unlimited mango lassi as part of their buffet, and also had gulab jamun, plain rice, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, goat curry, aloo pakora, plain naan, and much more! A personal favorite that I tried during the buffet was the Sakoon chicken kabob, which I will definitely come back to try again. Their regular dining is also very yummy--I am a huge fan of the garlic naan and vegetable samosa chaat (which is technically an appetizer, but I often get it as a midday snack or meal). They offer almost all their food at spice levels 1-5--5 gets really spicy, but it's a great kick! This is my favorite restaurant in the Baltimore area. The first time I went, I was still full but went so I could hang out with my best friend and we had the vegetable soup, cheese naan, garlic naan, chow mein, paneer masala and the mango lassi. I knew this restaurant was a winner after chowing down on a full stomach! Also, the mango lassi is such a winner, just the right amount of mango goodness, sweetness and viscosity. The vegetable soup I went back for two days later because I couldn't stop thinking of how lemony sour it was. Today, I went with my friends after volunteering and the food continues to blow my mind and be amazing. My friends all agree they love this place too and will be back for more. Ordered from here a few times. Chicken curry, Aatu kulambu, Maa ki dal, Navratan kurma, peas pulao or whatever your heart desires, Sakoon delivers it well. Every order of curry comes with plenty of plain basmati rice on the side. Enough to be shared by two people. Their consistency in quality and satisfying quantities keep me coming back for more. There is buffet everyday! Great place for lunch for JHU students. Many dishes can try with no more than $14 (JHU students can get discount). Every costumer can get free naan. I ordered the dum biriyani rather than the regular biriyani because not all Indian restaurants have this option. This goat biriyani was delicious; flavors, spice level and portion was perfect. It comes with a raita but you can have this dish without any sides. No fillers, simple yet elegant dum biriyani. One of the best you will find around it Baltimore. I was DYING for some Indian food so we chose Sakoon over Tamber, no specific reason. First off, the papad was burnt. But the green chutney and tamarind sauce (accompaniments) drowned out the burnt aftertaste. My three stars are for the palak curry and basmati rice. One of the best palak curries I've had in awhile. And the plain basmati rice was cooked perfectly. We also had a couple of Indo-Chinese starters, chicken and shrimp. The chicken dish was sssoooo spicy but enjoyable, per my companion. The shrimp was also ssooo spicy (but apparently less than the chicken). But all you could taste was ketchup. Thick ketchup. Lots of ketchup. With some chili powder added. Not an enjoyable meal. I really love this place. The first picture is of my most recent "TooGoodToGo" vegetarian order. It was smelling so good I had to eat it in the car, it was delicious! The veggie momo & tandoori shrimp are from my last dine-in experience back in March. The waitress recommended I get sweet chili momo and babyyyy they were very spicy! They were very good but I'll stick to getting them in a soup(my favorite). The tandoori shrimp with that masala sauce did what needed to be done! Loved it! Not pictured is my mango lassi because I drink it so fast, so so good! I forgot to mention in the beginning that chips & salsa are bought to the table while dining in, I love that! Really solid Indian food! I've tried their saag paneer, aloo matar, daal, and rajma before and it really hits the spot! Their food tastes very fresh, and comes with plenty of rice. I also always get the naan, which is solid, a little chewier than I would like, and I enjoy the Kheer as well for dessert (I'm picky about my kheer, but theirs is pretty good!) I've only been here for takeout, so that is all I can comment on, but it's a solid takeout Indian place! read more

If I am craving Indian food, I usually order from Sakoon. They have great deals on takeout orders (usually through apps though, e.g Grubhub) and the flavors are really bold and rich. I have dinged it slightly to 4 stars because sometimes the food is inconsistent. For example, when I got takeout this time it was great! But sometimes the curry is watery and flavorless. read more

This is a great, not well-known local Indian restaurant. I came in on a Sunday afternoon and surprised to find they still had weekend buffet ($12 dollars for weekend lunch 11am-2pm). Their spread is great with a great selection of fish, chicken, vegetables, rice, naan, and lo mein. They also had sweet rice pudding, salad, fruits, and water. The service was great, too. Sakoon Indian Fusion is located where Masala Kitchen used to be. In terms of customer service, Sakoon has been a welcoming upgrade. No wonder why Masala Kitchen went out of business. The lunch buffet is $10 pre-tax per person during the week. Drink is not included. Selection is very limited (about 12-14 items), but they have naan bread, Basmati rice, Chicken Tikka Masala, a variety of vegetables, sauces, and rice puddings available. The food tastes the same as the food they had at Masala Kitchen. I wonder if the new management retained the same kitchen staff. Service was on point and friendly. Ok, I have mixed feelings about this place. I have once ordered delivery that was unremarkable except I felt it was a little pricey for what it was: essentially lentils in sauce. But I'm really disappointed that I've twice come out of my way to try their lunch buffet and noticed literally all of their entrees have had chicken in them--despite the fact that all of their advertising has "WE SPECIALIZE IN VEGAN" plastered across it! Why not have a mostly plant-based buffet with one or two chicken options for non-vegetarians? As it is now, basically the only vegan options on the buffet are side carbs. read more
