Wow oh wow! I discovered this hidden gem tucked in the Hillendale Shopping center and trust me appearances can be deceiving. Upon entry, you're welcomed into a quaint Indian eatery with AUTHENTIC Indian food! We went on a Sunday night and there was only one other table - I couldn't believe that this place wasn't packed! Everything about the food was dynamite. The garlic naan was melt in your mouth and the two chicken entrees we tried were awesome. My wife and I have celebrated our Valentine's Day for the past few years with takeout from Butter Chicken Restaurant. We ordered Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Jalfrezi and two orders of Naan, in addition to 2 orders of Vegetable Samosas and two Orders of Chicken Momo's. They were running a special - if you buy two entrees the third entree is free, so we weren't charged for the Vegetable Jalfrezi. The Vindaloo was absolutely delicious. The Chicken Tikka Masala was very good, and we also enjoyed the vegetable jalfrezi. When we got home an unpacked the food, we were pleasantly surprised that they also included a free desert - Gulab Jamun. We shared the entrees so we could enjoy the variety and ended up getting another dinner to enjoy with our "special needs" son who visits on the weekend. Thanks for making our Valentine's Day extra special. Some day we need to eat in and branch out and try something different dishes in your restaurant. We called for reservations for about 10 of us for Sunday brunch. When we ended up with about 16, the owners quickly accommodated & worked even harder. We weren't the only party there. The food was cooked fresh for each plate & every single friend at our table complimented their food. We all shared & there wasn't one that I didn't like. I had the most disgusting experience with the food that I ordered yesterday. I ordered Chicken Tikka and Paneer chilly dry and both the food items were horrible. Chicken Tikka was stale and tasted like I have been served an eraser to eat..it was chewy,rubbery and hard. Paneer chilly had some weird smell and was stale too.. TL;DR at the bottom The food is pretty tasty as long as you don't have a nut allergy. My boyfriend and I ordered their Butter Chicken and Palak Paneer through UberEats. We made sure to include in the notes that he has a nut allergy and to please be careful. Neither item lists nuts as an ingredient but its always better to be safe than sorry. After taking a couple of bites of the Butter Chicken, my boyfriend started going into anaphylactic shock. His throat started to close up and he started breaking out in hives. Thankfully, he's okay now but, can you imagine our surprise? I called the restaurant to inform them of what happened. Food allergies shouldn't be taken lightly and I wanted to make sure this doesn't happen to someone with a more severe reaction. I was brushed off, told "I made the food myself, there's no nuts!" and then hung up on. Not only did we not receive an apology for what could've been a life-threatening situation, but to be so dismissive of an obvious food safety violation doesn't sit well with me. Our roommate and his girlfriend also had a similar situation happen months prior. When I told them what happened to my boyfriend today, they asked if we ordered from Butter Chicken Restaurant, by name. They then told me how they ordered food from them previously, items that don't list nuts as an ingredient, and ended up getting sick (roommate's girlfriend also has a nut allergy). I used Yelp to find this place. I'm new to Indian food so you're welcome to take my review with a grain of salt. I enjoy spicy food with delicious flavor. I ordered the Buttered Chicken (spicy), Garlic Naan, Samosas and a Mango Lassi. The Mango Lassi was delicious. The Samosas were bland compared to my first one that I tried at a previous place. I never finished one much less than finishing both. I didn't care for the sauce that was served with them. Again, I'm comparing it to my first experience. The sauce for the Butter Chicken was flavorful and delicious. I ordered "spicy" but it was much milder than I expected. The quality of the chicken was poor. I found 3 of my pieces having cartilage and difficult to chew. I also found a bone 1/2" long. I left it at the top of the plate hoping they would see it and maybe take the time to go through the chicken before making anymore dishes. Service was very kind and kept checking to ask how I was doing. Another disappointment was the size of the serving of Buttered Chicken compared to the price. They charged more than what is printed on the menus. The dish it was served in was about 5 inches in diameter and very shallow. $16.99 for an extremely small serving. I don't think I would have minded paying if the quality of the food was excellent. It was not. I won't be returning. I left a nice tip because service was great. read more

The Indian/Nepali restaurant here has to rank as the worst in the Baltimore area. The dining room was chilly in the winter since it lacked heat. The paper towel dispenser in the bathroom wasn't working, and there was no soap at all. It is understandable why the health department closed this establishment due to many infractions of health regulations. If at all possible, avoid. Iordered some chicken pakora and got lots of chicken but with no, ummm, pakora. Instead, i got thin orange chicken tenders with no batter, no crunch and, unfortunately, no taste, either. I stopped half way through. The lamb momo were good but hampered by not having enough of the house chutney sauces. This meant i had more momo than sauce. I'm not talking about needing a pint of sauce but why not at least fill up the 2.5 Tbs container instead of filling it only half way? Is there a world shortage of tamarind and coriander/cilantro that i do not know about? Finally, i thought i would splurge and get the kashmiri naan. What i got was a few nuts in one little area of only one of the quarters of the thin naan and a bit of coconut in the rest of it. This qualified for an emaciated cost-cutting version of a kashmiri naan. I could not finish that either because it was thin and dry and as far from a splurge as you could get. I had been to Butter Chicken under different management when it was good. On my last visit I just ordered pakoras, one chicken and the other vegetable. They said my order would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes later and the order had already been out of the kitchen (cooled down). I paid for the order and when I got home the pakoras orders were both chicken, the batter was soggy, they were blah bland, and they were in styrofoam. The samosa chat had more chickpeas than samosa, no sauce and extremely bland. It didn't taste like anything. The worst was the malai kofta. It's like all the spice from the other dishes where in here. Lies...it tasted purely like salt. I'm sure it's from the paneer, but it was overwhelming and nasty. The papadum was fine. Nothing special or nothing awful. The positive part was the delivery time. Got here about 10 mins early. But now we have stomach aches and are still hungry for correctly spiced Indian food. I really think they deserve more business. There wasn't even the usual trickle of people coming in to pickup carryout you would expect at a place like this. The food was great as we expected, and I used a coupon for free naan bread (grab one of the takeout menus on your way in and use it). The papadum isn't included as an appetizer like most indian restaurants. I was craving it so I ordered some -- it was fabulous. A couple bucks for truly delicious fresh made, crunchy papadum. I also splurged on a mango lassi -- lovely! Long story short, the food we have gotten here is consistently delicious. That's an important thing to say.
