Went here for my friends birthday party and she rented the back room which has 2 flat tops. The room was freezing as it felt the A/C was on even with the flat tops on. The first chef came out and cooked for the first table. We waited a good 20 mins until our chef came out. He was irritated and not very friendly. There was no entertainment. Food was overcooked and not very generous as the other table. Friend had egg allergy and waited a long time for his food as we were done eating. Waitress never came and asked us how things were and no drink refills. They added a trip already to our bills which I didn't like. *3.5 Stars* First time having hibachi in years. Waited 15 minutes for a spot, even after reserving the time spot ahead of time. Not the end of the world, but a little annoying. Service was friendly and the hibachi chef was pleasant. Not a big fan of getting refrigerated fried rice flung at your face, but I guess it's part of the experience. Not so tasty if you actually get it in your mouth. The hibachi show was okay, nothing crazy. The standard tossing and cracking egg on the spatula, along with the volcano onion. It was only the 4 of us, so maybe that's why there were less theatrics. The food was well seasoned and portions were large. Definitely enough food for two meals. I opted for the chicken and steak. We got a few shrimps tossed into the mix as well. Fried rice and veggies were good. Pricing is to be expected. Not sure how much it is elsewhere, but expect to pay $40-50 for a two protein combination. Maybe around $30 for one protein. Overall hibachi experience was positive. Food taste and service were good. Came here on Sunday around 1pm and the place was packed with happy customers. I was very impressed by how quickly our food arrived. We started our meal with hot and sour soup which was delicious and came with huge tofu slices. We ordered the Hana Roll which normally comes with tuna but were able to substitute it with salmon. We also got a Viper Hand Roll and Udon Soup. Everything was so good and I have discovered my favorite roll is the Hana Roll as it comes packed with spicy salmon, avocado eel sauce and spicy mayo. The udon soup came in a massive bowl and was very flavorful. It came with an egg, beef and veggies. Overall this was a very enjoyable meal and the staff were friendly. Despite the place being packed, it wasn't noisy inside and we could hear each other's conversations. Lots of nice interior decorations. Highly recommend coming here!! read more

Went had a group of six for a birthday lunch at the hibachi grill. Staff was very welcoming and friendly, the restaurant was nice and clean. Our drink orders were taken and brought out quickly. Our food orders were taken, and then verified to make sure everything was correct. They brought out the soup, which was good. This was followed by a nice cold crisp salad with awesome dressing. The chef came out, verified our orders once again, made some small talk and had everyone laughing. He put on a very entertaining show while he cooked. Everything was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Very satisfying. After we were done, they brought out ice cream for the birthday person. The only negative I had was it was pretty cold in there. Visiting Rochester from San Diego we are staying in a hotel just a couple of doors down from Sakura and went there for the convenience. After trying to figure out how to get into the place (they are splitting a single restaurant up into Japanese and Chinese side - at least that is what it looked like), we get into a very empty restaurant and faced with the question if we had a reservation, then do we want Japanese, Hibachi, Sushi, or Chinese... it's one place. Give us a couple of menus... When we get the menus, holy cow, this place is expensive, much more expensive than many places in San Diego - this is Rochester, not San Diego. The food was ok, just ok, not great, not outstanding, certainly not worth the prices on those menus. The service was ok, just ok, not great, not outstanding, certainly not worth the prices on those menus. All in all, the two things that worked was the decor - nice, and the fact that you could actually order more than one Asian cuisine. There is a Chinese restaurant adjacent to them with the same owner. You are able to order both cuisines in either restaurant, just ask for the menu. It seems like the sushi is more expensive than I remembered it to be. Special rolls vary between $15 - $19 each. The hibachi is expensive as well, however, the portions were huge. They packed our plates, enough that I could have lunch the next day (salmon hibachi). Food was cooked well, chef was cool, and they still have the birthday gong! read more

Absolutely not worth the money. When you order the sushi/sashimi, it is absolutely just one piece. Tamago is usually $2-3 a piece, this was like 4.50 for ONE. They weren't even impressive, either, they were room temperature/warmish which was odd. I've literally had better grocery store tamago sushi. Really tiny portions, $10 for a side of hibachi noodles, no vegetables, looked just like angel hair pasta with sauce. A $24 order of yaki udon noodles with chicken was maybe half the size of a normal portion. Sweet potato tempura roll needed more eel sauce and the rice needed more vinegar. Age tofu was oddly large in size and felt pretty greasy. Pretty disappointed for an $80 order. read more

We used to like this place a lot. But their prices have skyrocketed and their service and food have gone downhill. We went here for dinner and were placed in a small back room, where, apparently, it was easy for the waitress to forget about us. We waited so long for our food, it was lukewarm to downright cold when she dumped it off. And I mean, she dumped it off and ran. We didn't have time to tell her some of the items were missing. Like bowls for the soy sauce for our sushi, gluten free soy sauce for the GF person - which she was aware of when it was ordered. One sushi dish was spicy tuna - but came dry, with no spicy mayo; another person needed a knife to cut what looked like microwaved grill-marked chicken. Since she never came back, one of the guys in our party ended up actually going in to the kitchen to get the GF soy sauce; and the meal was just about done before we saw her again for the spicy mayo. No one at our table had a good experience - what we were served was not worth the large expense. I actually feel more sorry for the people that were seated next to us. They made 9 people sit at a round table that was built for, at most, 6 people. This party was not happy - you could tell by the looks on their faces. BUT OMG you can't hear anyone talk because you have so many people sitting on top of each other in the hibachi room. Waitress can't hear us talk, we can't hear other talk, no room to sit. Waitress barely cleared our table, we had to ask to have waters refilled a couple times because she just vanished for forever. We had to ask random workers for boxes and our checks. You upcharged for hibachi noodles $5.99 to get not even a handful of noodles each. There was literally a handful of noodles shared between 3 people for $18. All our vegetables were undercooked and mostly raw. My sushi "spider roll" rice was extremely hard like it was pretty old, and the seafood that was inside was completely overcooked, or over deep fried, extremely hard. My friends cut of beef was not even the correct cut of beef she ordered, lobster was over cooked. Then my boyfriend ordered scallops, and shrimp. Guy didn't even give him shrimp. We had to tell him a couple times that he ordered shrimp and he ended up walking in the kitchen and coming back with a small plate of microwaved shrimp with a drizzle of sauce. For an almost $50 plate of food he got microwaved shrimp. We went here to celebrate my niece turning 14yrs old. We told the waitress it was her birthday a few times but then we still had to ask her to bring her a cup of ice cream after waiting for boxes and our checks for like 40 mins. The amount of money spent here was insane to have so many issues with literally everything. Service was garbage, and I mean garbage, food was not good, and we spent almost $1000 dollars for one meal for 10 people. Wtf. Absolutely mind blowing. This place has been my go-to for years. It seems to be heading in the wrong direction, however. Yesterday, the front end was completely disorganized, everything was taking forever. There were multiple people waiting for orders for a long time. The front end was dirty and smelled. It just was not an inviting environment. I've eaten take out from here and dined in- most recently take out for a birthday celebration. We ordered the curry udon with vegetables and added chicken, the angry dragon rolls, California rolls, and the hibachi steak (medium rare). The order was ready exactly a half hour after I'd placed it and food was still warm when I got home. My hibachi steak was cooked accurately and the whole dish (steak, rice, and vegetables) was very good overall (not as salty as I've found nearby Plum Garden to be). I was able to split the meal with my dad since the portion was so large. My mom expected the curry to be thicker but still enjoyed it. Everyone enjoyed the sushi. I just wish the menu wasn't so expensive so I could eat their food more often... our total was around $82 (including tax). Dine-in experience was good- nothing different than any other hibachi place I've been to. It took a very long time for a chef to show up to our table though and we saw tables that had been sat after us being served first which was frustrating. I'm vegetarian and it's good to see hibachi options. They are very accommodating. Our group of 8 enjoys the hibachi experience. This time not as much. The chef puts a huge pile of rice on each plate. The extras range from $25-45. It looks like a lot of food but it's really just a lot of rice . If you prefer noodles, it's an extra $5.50 tacked onto that price range. The amount of noodles you get doesn't justify that price. Some things are too salty for me. I wasn't alone in thinking this. The soda is in a cute bottle but is $5.50 . Holy Moly this place is 1 part chaos 1 part crappy customer service and a complete miss on where to go for Hibachi!! So my parents both retired this week and my sister and I wanted to take them out to celebrate and Hibachi sounded like a fun and different idea! I had been to Sakura Home before and thought they had a private room and so I checked and sure enough they DO! I called up early in the week and they had space available on Saturday for $50 so we made the reservation to reserve the private room for our exclusive use at 6pm on Saturday. So the day of comes and everyone is excited to celebrate. I get a call about 5pm from the restaurant. It turns out they over booked and wanted to see if we could come in at 630. OK these things happen and we were willing to work with them. So we all arrive at 630 and are told we will be sat shortly. Awesome! The lobby was kind of insane with a lot of people waiting. There are 3 chairs and like 30 people so its crowded, hard to move through and not very comfortable. The complete lack of origination surrounding their Hibachi quickly became clear. There was a number of very frustrated guests all who had made reservations and none who were sat on time. This made me nervous but I remained foolishly hopeful. Time tickets by and soon it was 7pm, we were still waiting. Hungry and waiting. I went back to the hostess who had been refusing to make eye contact with me to find out the situation. She shyly tells me it will be another 30 minutes and immediately offers to get her manager. Manager comes over and is very apologetic, tells me she won't charge us the $50 and someone made a mistake with the booking and it should be no more than 30 minutes. Ok, so when 7:40 rolls around and were STILL NOT SEATED I'm more than a little annoyed. She tells us she will comp us some apps and is trying to get the current party to leave. We aren't sat untill almost 8pm. 2 hours after we were suppose to be. They did give us some edamame and 2 sushi rolls to kind of ease our hunger pains. The server was a nervous wreck, took forever to get our drinks and take our order. The chef dind't come in till after 830 and he had the personality of a starfish. Probably the worst part of this was around 815 THEY SEATED THE OTHER TABLE IN THE EXCLUSIVE ROOM WITH A BUNCH OF RANDOM PEOPLE!!! The entire restaurant is one chaotic crap hole of service. The food was OK but it was not worth a 3 hour wait, $5 sodas and shit service. DO NOT pick this place for your fun hibachi adventures. New to the area and wanted to take my family of 5 for hibachi on my wife's birthday, so was excited to try Sakura. What an utter disappointment on every level. We arrived before our 7 pm reservation for hibachi and had to wait over an hour to be seated. It was a Thursday and the restaurant was not crowded at all. No one explained to us what was going on until we were seated, and the server explained that they only had two hibachi chefs on staff that night and the hostess way overbooked. So we sat for another 30 minutes at the hibachi grill watching other people eat. We've now been there for 90 minutes. No manager explanation. The overworked chef finally arrived, and was clearly exhausted. He did the routine but halfheartedly and hurriedly so he could go on to the next table. Part of the expense for hibachi is the entertainment. The food was average at best and expensive as others have said. We've eaten hibachi in Orlando, Boston, Toronto, and Japan, as well as midsized towns at average Japanese steakhouses, and this was more expensive and less quality than anywhere we'd eaten before. To make this miserable experience even worse, my son who has a restricted diet simply wanted a bowl of Udon and nothing else, but they charged him the $23 full menu price even though he had no meat or vegetables. And the serving was small so he ordered another bowl, so $46 for two bowls of $4 noodles. I tried to find the manager to ask for some reasonable reductions in the bill but he was clearly avoiding people and pacing back and forth, and as we'd been there for more than 2 hours we were in a hurry to leave. Maybe this was a bad night for them but we are the customers and they knew they were having a bad night and should have been more proactive. The ambiance was average at best too; a bit dingy. Just left this place and I can't stress enough that you should avoid this restaurant at all costs. We arrived 7:11 for a 7:15 reservation celebrate my daughter's birthday. We were told it would be 10 minutes to be seated. We were seated at 7:25. We did not get a server to come over for our drink order until 7:45. We were served our soup and salad around 8.Around 8:10, we still had not received our drinks. I had to go find the server to find out where our drinks were. The server said she forgot them. By 8:50 we were told it would be another 10-15 minutes before the hibachi chef would come to our table. That would have been almost two hours since we walked in the door. This has been my go-to for hibachi for quite some time. I've only dined in the dining room a couple times and this review is strictly for the dining room experience I've had tonight. Making reservations for 6:30pm, the restaurant was decently full. The hibachi side seemed very busy, and the dining room was 70% full. Despite walking in with my family first, the host decided to help the two people who came in behind us first. After walking us to our table, she placed four Red Sun menus down. A bit confused, but she quickly came over and asked if we wanted the Sakura Home menu. I found this rather odd considering we walked into Sakura Home and not through the doors of Red Sun which is next door. I understand they also serve Red Sun's menu in Sakura Home's dining room, but if I wanted Red Sun I would have walked into that restaurant. I placed in a couple appetizers, the Calamari and the Rock Shrimp. We sat down around 6:30pm and we didn't see the appetizers until 7:20pm. To be fair, the waitress (Ming) did inform us after placing our appetizers, the kitchen was backed up. She reminded us a couple times which still waiting over 45 minutes for two appetizers is still inexcusable. The calamari wasn't anything special and came with two sauces. A wasabi cream sauce, and a sweet chili sauce. The rock shrimp came on a bed of lettuce with the sour spicy red wine sauce served on the side. Again, passable. The calamari comes in at $12.99 and the rock shrimp at $17.50. These weren't cheap appetizers and I felt they were both over-priced for the quality and quantity. 10 minutes later, she brought over the sushi entrees while we were still working on the appetizers. Another 20 minutes passed and the two kitchen entrees arrived. I understand it's hard to have all entrees timed perfectly considering two are from the sushi bar and the other two are from the kitchen. As we're working away on our entrees, she brings over the Spanish Mackerel nigiri I ordered. I know this particular fish inside out since it's one of my favourites. Upon an immediate visual inspection, I believed it was yellowtail. After tasting the fish, I was convinced it was yellowtail. I waited for Ming to check-up on us, and I asked her if that was Spanish mackerel or yellowtail. She at first told me that it IS Spanish Mackerel which my rebuttal was that I am convinced it was yellowtail. She then tells me she's going to ask the chef, which I can overhear him saying "no more." She returned and said that it is indeed, yellowtail. Now I can't say for certain what exactly went wrong, but at the end of the day, it's clear a slight-of-hand aka substitution took place. The one pet-peeve I have is a restaurant not simply saying they're out of a particular dish, but instead try to swap it out hoping the customer wouldn't notice. This shows dishonesty from the sushi chef and/or the server. Before placing my order for the Spanish Mackerel, I even asked Ming if this was available and she said, "yes." After realizing the mistake, Ming did comp this order. The rest of the fish was just subpar, but the white tuna aka escolar tasted a bit off. I would also mention I found a bone in the salmon sashimi. This isn't a cheap restaurant with the Miso Salmon coming in at $22.99 with a gritty miso sauce. The Stir Fry Udon is $17.99 plus shrimp for an extra $2.99. Our bill came to a hair above $200 but to be fair, my brother and myself both individually ordered sushi entrees meant for two people. *On a side note, if you happen to sit in a booth to the right of the restaurant, the seats are attached to the opposite side. Meaning if the person behind you can't sit still or gets up and down sporadically, this will make you bounce up and down. I found this rather annoying. Overall, I find Sakura Home to be an absolutely gorgeous restaurant in a great part of Pittsford, NY. Unfortunately due to many factors, I can't see myself recommending or returning to this restaurant. From the 45+ minute wait for appetizers, bone in the salmon, and over-priced menu with subpar food....I will have to take this off my top five Japanese/Sushi restaurants in Rochester. read more

Sushi is my favorite food so it's safe to safe any time I order it, I have high hopes! We were in the area over the weekend and decided to order some sushi takeout from Sakura Home. Our order consisted of a yellowtail jalapeño roll, tuna roll, spicy tuna, and spicy salmon roll. Unfortunately we were a little underwhelmed with it all. The pieces of each roll weren't consistent - example being for the yellowtail jalapeño roll there were pieces that were mostly jalapeño with little to no fish. We were a little disappointed in it and it was a tad pricey so we were expecting it to be amazing. In my opinion the best place to get sushi is still Sakura Garden in Fairport! read more

Confusing to have 2 restaurant names on the same building and then walk into the Chinese side of the building to find it empty and no staff. So off to the Japanese side we go. The waitstaff asked if we wanted the Chinese menu or the Japanese. We ordered fresh spring rolls and 2 entrees. Very pricey menu items so I was careful to note prices before ordering. The food was very good. Fresh, tender beef, crunchy vegetables, delicious sauces. The food wasn't the problem. The final bill was the issue. All items were priced higher on the bill than in the menu. $4.95 for 2 spring rolls billed at $7.95. Mongolian beef in the menu was $18.95 and billed at $22.95 and coconut curry vegetables on the menu was $14.95 and billed $16.95. I don't mind paying more for good food. I just don't like that no one could explain why prices were different on the bill than the menu. read more

We went here for a late dinner, arriving just after 9:00 pm. (They close at 10:00) Maybe they were looking to close early and were feeling bitter about having to serve a party of four in the last hour of their day, but what follows is what can only be described that the single worst Hibachi experience I have ever had. After getting our order, the Hibachi chef arrived with his tray of food. He says hello, but never introduced himself... whatever. He squirts oil on the cooking surface and lights it (like they do) igniting a massive conflagration that made all of us lean back in our seats until it died down. The unnecessary size of it made me wonder if this guy even knew what he was doing. It was about here that I notice a small group of workers from back of house peeking around the corner. Dude is smiling and friendly, so maybe I have it wrong. He sets up the onion volcano (like they do) and puts so much oil into the thing that the entire mountain of onions just catches on fire. No volcano... just flames. He cuts it up and puts it out. A few of us had ordered steak. He asks how we want it cooked. We have one medium rare (me) and two medium well. It didn't matter. He cooked it and served it all the same temperature- well done. He passes the steak out to all the plates EXCEPT MINE clearly oblivious to who ordered what. None of the meat was seasoned- no salt or pepper- nothing. Just bland af meat. At this point I am just done. There's no way to make it better. Hibachi chef chuckles at his mistake. I have been eating sushi for over 30 years from NYC to Maui. This is my favorite choice in Monroe County The Angry Dragon is always a favorite roll. If you love sushi I am certain you will adore this choice. Sakura added a nice appetizer. two good sized lamb chops. Of course it is not a typical Japanese item but non the less it tasted great. My new favorite Sakura appetizer item which is new this year is what I call the Salmon Spoons. I could eat 20 of these spoons. If you like caviar there is a relatively new roll that has caviar in it. Those who like caviar love this new roll. I am not a true caviar lover but none the less I do enjoy sharing the roll with my wife. My wife loves both caviar and this specific roll. There are always new items here at Sakura some that you would not expect at a Japanese restaurant. I can remember a few years ago that twinkies was going out of business. Sakura had a desert that was fried twinkies covered with chocolate. I am not a desert lover but I remeber seeing people fighting for the item as they were afraid they may not get a chance. Called early today, Christmas, to make sure putting in a large order wouldn't be an issue. They said an hours notice is fine, but they also get busier around 4p. Called at 3:30p for a 5p pickup. Ordered just under $200 worth of sushi, sashimi, rolls, and a la carte. Everything was ready when I arrived for it. Smelled very clean inside. The food was prepared well. The sashimi were nice large portions. Thoroughly enjoyed it with the family. We will be ordering again, or hopefully dining in one day. read more

I tried the veggie roll, veggie tempura and kimchi tofu. Veggie role was good, came with carrot, cucumber and avocado. Veggie tempura was good, would have been great there I'm sure. It held up after delivery though. Kimchi tofu could have done with the tofu sitting in the kimchi for days to soaking the juice. The most boring hibachi dinner ever. First I made reservations for 7, the cook didn't get to our table till 7:45. Then he didn't say a word to either party at the table. No show at all. Extremely disappointing when we were spending at least $50 a person. The other party at the table who we didn't know was underwhelmed as well. read more

Decent place, what a refinishing inside compared to the last business. The kimchi tofu was really good, chicken udon had little flavor. The rolls seemed fresh, evenly rolled n stuffed. Spicy tuna was barely tasty, the yellowtail jalapeño was crunchy with plenty of jalapeño. read more
