    Hibachi Scallops

Well this was the best hibachi I ever had. Not only did it taste amazing the experience was great too. There was a great show by the Chef but a classy show; none of the weird gimmicky alcohol squirting etc. The portions were so generous we had dinner for the following evening.

This place is definitely a hit or miss. My recent visit here was disappointing. Service was great but our filet mignon and veggies were so bland & the rice had big chunks of onion in it. I don't eat rice but the rest of my party did and they were very disappointed. Sadly, I don't think I will be returning. I left the restaurant hungry.

Hana Roll (substituted the tuna with salmon) and Viper Hand Roll

Came here on Sunday around 1pm and the place was packed with happy customers. I was very impressed by how quickly our food arrived. We started our meal with hot and sour soup which was delicious and came with huge tofu slices. We ordered the Hana Roll which normally comes with tuna but were able to substitute it with salmon. We also got a Viper Hand Roll and Udon Soup. Everything was so good and I have discovered my favorite roll is the Hana Roll as it comes packed with spicy salmon, avocado eel sauce and spicy mayo. The udon soup came in a massive bowl and was very flavorful. It came with an egg, beef and veggies. Overall this was a very enjoyable meal and the staff were friendly. Despite the place being packed, it wasn't noisy inside and we could hear each other's conversations. Lots of nice interior decorations. Highly recommend coming here!!

Angry Dragon and Dick Ide Rolls

Service was horrible, food was great. Our server was very rude, just asking "ready?" 3 times or when she walked over. There were two menus and we were only given one and when asking about certain dishes she would just point to the menu. We both ordered different sakes and she just brought one. Didn't clear dirty dishes to table. Crab wontons, dick ide roll and angry dragon roll were fantastic. Super pricy but I'd say worth it. fortune cookies were very stale and the fortune was cut in half. maybe saving on paper - idk. Atmosphere was nice but kinda dirty.

Visiting Rochester from San Diego we are staying in a hotel just a couple of doors down from Sakura and went there for the convenience. After trying to figure out how to get into the place (they are splitting a single restaurant up into Japanese and Chinese side - at least that is what it looked like), we get into a very empty restaurant and faced with the question if we had a reservation, then do we want Japanese, Hibachi, Sushi, or Chinese... it's one place. Give us a couple of menus... When we get the menus, holy cow, this place is expensive, much more expensive than many places in San Diego - this is Rochester, not San Diego. The food was ok, just ok, not great, not outstanding, certainly not worth the prices on those menus. The service was ok, just ok, not great, not outstanding, certainly not worth the prices on those menus. All in all, the two things that worked was the decor - nice, and the fact that you could actually order more than one Asian cuisine. I know there are better places in Rochester - and more affordable ones. Next time I will make the effort to go to one of them.

Can't remember the name of the rolls, but I remember they cost up near $20 each.

It's slim pickings when it comes to hibachi tables in Rochester so we decided on Sakura Home since we haven't visited in a long time. The interior has not changed. There is a Chinese restaurant adjacent to them with the same owner. You are able to order both cuisines in either restaurant, just ask for the menu. It seems like the sushi is more expensive than I remembered it to be. Special rolls vary between $15 - $19 each. The hibachi is expensive as well, however, the portions were huge. They packed our plates, enough that I could have lunch the next day (salmon hibachi). Food was cooked well, chef was cool, and they still have the birthday gong!

We came here as a graduation dinner (I recently graduated from law school) so it was supposed to be a celebration. We were greeted by Laura (whose role was to do waters) and Laura was the best part of our night. Our server Desiree took our orders and we thought it was going to be good experience, but was surprised when we didn't hear much from her (I'm not sure if her section was too big but I saw her most of the time at the bar). It took over an hour to get our entrees and when we didn't get them, they were not great. The steak was undercooked, the salmon was also undercooked, the mushrooms were over cooked and I never received my soda. When we escalated that it was a poor experience, Desiree just asked us if we wanted them to cook it more, but we were starving by that point and she didn't so much as apologize. Then someone else came (didn't catch her name) and she offered to take only the items we hadn't touched off the bill. They offered dessert but we told them no because we have to get up early for graduation. They sent us home with some anyway. Needless to say, would not recommend and won't be back.

Friday night in early December. Walked in to be warmly greeted by waitstaff in santa hats. Restaurant and bar is full Christmas spirit with lights, trees and decorations. Very festive! The walls are adorned in caricatures of famous italian americans: actors, athletes, singers, politicians etc. There's also a room dedicated to fake italians, for actors who played iconic italian roles but are not in fact of italian dissent. We were in that room, which was fun for us because 2 our all time favs were in there: the Barones of Everybody Loves Raymond and some Soprano's characters. Normally I am not a fan of chain restaurants for italian food, but this place is special. The food was bellisimo! Absolutely delicious. The shrimp cocktail, were like small lobster tails they were so huge & fresh! The stuffed peppers appetizer itself could be a meal (and for me, it was) The peppers practically melted in your mouth, stuffed with ricotta, sausage, gorgonzola and crusted breadcrumbs with balsamic glaze drizzle. To DIE for! The one pound lasagna is EPIC. Yes it's huge, but it's also cooked and stuffed to perfection. Comes with a pitcher of extra sauce without having to ask! We were too stuffed for dessert. Loved it here. Hope they expand include a Long Island location someday.

Once we got seated at the bar, things turned around quickly. The space has a really cozy, intimate vibe with dim lighting, warm atmosphere and overall it feels thoughtfully put together. We ordered hot toddies to drink, which were perfect for the weather, and for food we got the Japanese sweet potatoes and the cavolo nero pesto. It's a small space inside but it's designed well enough to manage a flow of traffic for customers and staff. We sat in the back greenhouse area. I think the least enjoyable part of our experience was how loud it was in the restaurant. Definitely not a good spot if you're trying to catch up with someone and your voice doesn't carry. I couldn't actually hear the specials the server was telling us. I want to try out Vern's again, so I may wait until there's an outdoor table or ask to sit in the second level to see if that's quieter. We tried one of their spring menu appetizer items, the Japanese sweet potatoes with kimchi ranch and dill. One bite and I was addicted, these were so so good. We then moved on to the classics for entrees -- bee sting pizza and the ragu-- and we were amazed at how good everything was! The only note we had was about the pizza, it was very soggy in the middle but still edible if you rolled it over in itself. We also had a few cocktails, and while they were somewhat small, you could tell they weren't watered down in any way. Two drinks was more than enough for me. Overall it was a great experience and we want to try it again. If you're someone who struggles to enjoy a meal out where you can't hear much, maybe wait for outdoor tables.

An unforgettable 50th birthday dinner!…read more My wife treated me to dinner here, and from start to finish, the experience was exceptional. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every dish was cooked to perfection, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. This is the kind of meal you keep talking about long after you leave. He struck that perfect balance of being present without hovering, and his recommendations were spot on. Junior waiter James was equally impressive, thoughtful, polished, and clearly invested in making sure we had a great experience. They made us feel celebrated without being over-the-top, which is not easy to do. The entire team contributed to an atmosphere that felt upscale, welcoming, and memorable. If you are celebrating something important or simply want an incredible dining experience, Black & Blue delivers on every level. I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate such a milestone birthday. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately, this Mother's Day 5/10/26 experience was disappointing enough that I felt compelled to leave a review. We had reservations for 3:30 PM on Mother's Day, and in the special request section of the reservation, I clearly specified that this was a Mother's Day celebration. I also requested a quiet or private booth and mentioned that my daughter is vegetarian. Upon arrival, we were seated upstairs directly next to what appeared to be an employee service area. We could constantly hear employees talking, dishes being washed or thrown around, and overall it was easily the loudest table in the restaurant. What made this more frustrating was that another couple seated next to us complained loudly about their table and caused a scene. Although staff initially explained the restaurant was full, they were eventually moved. Meanwhile, we had politely requested a better table in advance through the reservation system, yet because we were patient and understanding, it felt like we were simply ignored. Service throughout the meal was inconsistent and inattentive. It took quite a while before anyone took our drink order. The wine menu presented to me only included wines by the glass, despite the fact that I later saw servers bringing full bottles of wine and champagne to other tables. I wanted to order a bottle of champagne for the occasion, but by the time our waitress finally arrived, I didn't want to complicate things further. Another detail that stood out was the complete lack of acknowledgment for Mother's Day. I overheard our waitress enthusiastically wishing other tables a "Happy Mother's Day" and asking if they were celebrating anything special, yet she never once acknowledged me or our celebration. My husband ordered a piña colada and was told they could not make one, so he settled for a strawberry martini that was overwhelmingly sweet and unenjoyable. We chose not to complain. The food itself, as always, was excellent and truly the highlight of the evening. However, the service continued to feel rushed and impersonal. I was planning to order my favorite espresso martini after dinner, but instead the bill was simply dropped at the table without anyone asking if we wanted dessert or another drink. One employee who was handling bread and water service also made us feel rushed. While I was literally still chewing my food, she interrupted to ask, "Should I bag that for you?" It made me feel like we were being pushed out. I was also disappointed that despite specifically mentioning my daughter was vegetarian in the reservation notes, our waitress never offered vegetarian suggestions or asked about dietary restrictions. At most upscale restaurants, this level of attentiveness is expected. The most upsetting part of the evening, however, was what felt like dismissive and unprofessional behavior toward us as Latinos. My husband has an accent, and our waitress repeatedly pretended not to understand him. At one point, after commenting on his accent, she laughed and said, "Or maybe I'm deaf." We found this rude, uncomfortable, and inappropriate for a restaurant of this caliber. Ironically, despite the poor experience, I still tipped over 20% -- more than $100 from our table alone -- because I did not want to reinforce unfair stereotypes about Latinos not tipping. Black & Blue has always justified its upscale pricing through excellent food and outstanding hospitality, which is why this experience was so disappointing. While the food remains exceptional, the atmosphere has become extremely loud and chaotic, to the point where it reminded me more of Red Lobster than the elevated dining experience this restaurant once offered. I truly hope management takes customer service more seriously moving forward, because this visit was nowhere near the standard Black & Blue used to represent.
