We haven't been here in years and recently moved back to Wisconsin and decided to try it again . The sushi was just so-so in our opinion, nothing terribly impressive. I also felt like the waiter came to our table way too many times, asking how things were and trying to take away plates and such, it didn't make for a very private date night. I'm curious if this place is under new ownership as we used to really love it back in the day. We probably won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

The hibachi was intimate and fun for our small group. The service was quick and friendly. We ordered fried oysters, hibachi steak, hibachi salmon, and hibachi shrimp. The chef started a nice sized fire inside stacked onion slices and put it out with a "fireman", which actually was a toy that "peed" out the fire. Great show! read more

Picked up the order made online and part of our order is missing. Called them and they said I need to come back, I told them I couldn't without ruining everyone else's dinner on mother's day. They said to hold and then hung up on me. I called back, they said they would give me my missing food next time I came in. I said either deliver it or just give me a refund. Fresh sushi done right. The staff is friendly and helpful, and can explain each roll or dish to the smallest detail. The place is well decorated and clean, and actually reminds me of Sushi dens that I've eaten at in Tokyo. They do a ton of rolls named after Wisconsin locations or sports teams, which make the menu friendly to people that don't have much experience with Sushi ( plus...they're tasty! ). This place is trash. Ordered the shrimp hibachi for delivery. Somehow my total ended up being $50 which would have been fine if I ended up receiving my whole meal. When I got my delivery I only received the noodles to my meal. I then had to go all the way back to the restaurant to get the rest of my order. Mixed feelings with this restaurant. The Hibachi Lunch Special was great. My Philadelphia Roll was very average. Some things about this Japanese Steakhouse was a little weird. Didn't expect the (a little too loud) techno music playing... in a Japanese restaurant! Slot machines seemed a bit different too. The temperature was way colder than I'd like (and if I'm a little cold... a normal person had to be freezing). The service was great. Food came out relatively quick, which was nice since it was a lunch on a workday. I enjoyed the Chicken and Hibachi Lunch Special. Came with your choice of Fried Rice or Noodles and either soup or salad . The meal looked a little on the small side when it first came out, but turned out to be more than enough. Oh, where do I even start with this culinary catastrophe? If I could give this place negative stars, I would. The hibachi display was less of a performance and more of a tragic comedy--our chef could have moonlighted as a juggler, except that he dropped his utensils not once, not twice, but four times. I suppose he was just trying to keep us on our toes! And rice served at the end of the meal? What a delightful surprise! Nothing says "fine dining" like a side of confusion with your dessert. I half-expected a candle to be lit in honor of our patience as we waited for what felt like an eternity for our actual orders. It's almost as if the entire table was playing a game of "Guess What You Ordered." Spoiler alert: nobody won. Now, let's talk about the food. The shrimp was so rubbery, I half-expected it to bounce right off the plate--if that's what they meant by "fresh," I'd hate to see what stale looks like. As for the tenderloin steak, calling it a "tenderloin" felt like an insult to any self-respecting cut of meat. I'm not sure if it was a strip steak masquerading in a cheap tuxedo or just a very sad knock-off trying desperately to fit in. Either way, it was a far cry from the tender morsel I was promised. And let's not forget the pièce de résistance: our waiter casually setting down our soup on top of a seat that was dripping water into one of the bowls. Nothing quite like a side of mystery moisture to enhance your dining experience! I can only wonder how this establishment manages to pass health codes--perhaps they have a secret handshake with the inspectors. We had dinner boxes, as we were in kind of a hurry. They had generous portions! The soup and salad were delicious and refreshing. The gyoza and tempura were also good. I had the salmon teriyaki and salmon skin roll--both were very yummy! My husband tried the beef negimaki, and was delighted. Service was friendly. I had the sushi craving HIT as soon as I finished swimming laps at the hotel. They had about 40 mins before closing and the waitress was SO kind to let myself and a few other diners in. We used to enjoy Sakura for birthdays. We went for my daughter's first birthday. We were told a 30 minute wait for hibachi, and we sat for over an hour and a half. We had to ask for the birthday song. Several tables ahead of us waited almost as long, if not longer. So disappointed in the service we received for such a special milestone. Always a good time when we come here. Good service. Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms. Everyone wears masks. We came for my MIL's birthday and they did a cute song and fried ice cream treat for her. She loved it. Food is standard for the area. Not much to choose from in terms of asian cuisines, but this place has good fresh sushi. Hibachi was decent as well. Typical tricks and comedy. Prices can be somewhat spendy but overall worth the meal and time. Drinks are delicious too if you like unique drinks. Has a variety of sweet and tart options. Will be back again for sure. Food was good, waiter never sent our order in, waited a whole hour before we got food.

The food is better than the atmosphere and service. With some maintenance and some better front of house management, this place could be fantastic. We came here on a Thursday evening, after dinner rush. The staff was bustling about, and it was several minutes before our presence was acknowledged or greeted, let alone seated. The bar dining area seems like it was hip and hot years ago, but is now worn and tired. The booths are almost all ripped, some duct taped together. The back dining room is in better condition. A handwritten sign on a sheet of humudity-wrinkled paper advertises a food item, with the price scribbled out and re-written with a different color sharpie. Our server came about 10 min later to get our drink order, but they were out of ingredients to make the drinks we wanted. She was frazzled and doing her best. They were short staffed that evening. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food itself. My teriyaki beef bento box was perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned. The pork gyoza, also perfectly made and tasty. The 3 sushi rolls were amazing too. They had substituted some items in the bento box with similar items, (pork gyoza and 2 tempura shrimp instead of shrimp gyoza we ordered). That was fine, bit I would have preferred they got our consent first. With better management, I would return and easily give them 5 stars. read more

We had a party of four. We were promptly seated and greeted by our server Angie, she was amazing; fun, energetic, and welcoming. We ordered 3 sushi rolls which came out first as expected and it was quite delicious. Spicy tuna and California roll (our baseline standard) and we tried the house Wisconsin roll. That was the best of all three. On to dinner We all ate on the hibachi side: chicken with noodles, steak and scallops, chicken with fried rice and my little guy got the katsu chicken from the kitchen. All meals were very good. This is a great choice in the Oshkosh area for sushi and hibachi. If you're from out of town, they have creative sushi menu items with Green Bay themed names. While iSakura is not "out of this world" a step above your standard Japanese restaurant, you can trust the selection, quality and extensive menu. I had to update my review to reflect my thoughts on our last 2 visits. Half a star has been awarded for the server attempting to rescue our last and final visit, and the other half of the star is that they still have really amazing crab rangoons that we are going to miss. Sushi: The last two times I've ordered sushi here, the maki rolls have been unevenly cut (see my photo), the rice has been so over cooked that it is white mush around the nori paper, and the raw fish has been luke warm which is NOT what you want for sushi. They also oversauce their maki rolls. Katsu: This last visit, we had one heck of an awful experience for my fiancé's entree. He ordered the chicken katsu. First, the salad had tomatoes on it that just disintegrated and were pale pink. The worst part, he ordered chicken katsu. After it being delivered to the table, we realized that one of the cutlets on his plate was grey on the inside. Grey chicken is almost vomit worthy. So we brought it to the attention of the waitress. She tells us after she brings the plate into the kitchen, that they accidentally gave my fiancé one chicken and one pork cutlet. Wait, WHAT? So that tells me their raw protein is so poorly labeled that they don't even know what type of protein they are serving. Also, the "pork" and chicken were over cooked and dry. And how over cooked does pork have to be to be grey in color!? Customer Service Save Attempt: They did take 20% off of his entree ($2.60 it came to) and offered us free dessert. They also offered to recook his entree. In their defense, they tried. However, I'm sorry, but once we found out that two types of protein were served on a plate without knowledge of the kitchen until it was brought to their attention by the customer, neither of us took another bite of our food. Another note on the atmosphere..the bottles that are "decoration" around the room with string lights behind them are so dusty, it makes me question the cleanliness of this establishment. Needs some updating but don't let that deter you. They have multiple dining areas. A sushi bar. There is a hibachi dining area as well. Crab Rangoon- only thing they could improve on. Yummy flavor, light wonton, but needed some more crab in them. Sushi rolls- we got the Wisconsin roll and the Oshkosh roll. Blown away! Fresh and high quality ingredients. Kelly is a great manager and I do not know the name of the pretty red haired server, but we've had this sever wait out table twice and both times, she did amazing. My husband doesn't like traditional sushi so he modified the heck out of some of the rolls. She gets it right every time. You can sit in the hibachi grill area and have dinner and a show. Or you can order the hibachi off the menu at sit at a booth and not have to interact with the cook or the others at your table. The introvert way to go for sure, with the same delicious meal. One of the best birthday places in town. They have a catchy song and a firework for you. And ice cream. Birthdays are popular here so be ready to get that song stuck in your head after leaving. Their sushi menu is the best in Oshkosh. And they can make any adjustments to them at your request. Their drink menu is wonderful with fun drinks. My favorite for birthdays is. Flaming volcano - for 2. But I have been known to order it by myself. It's fun flaming Bacardi 151 yumm punch. There are Japanese beers like Sapporo that is good to try too. Don't forget the hard candy on the way out. We will definitely be back for our sushi fix soon read more

Was disappointed to learn that they have not a had their hibachi grill tables operating for over two months. Against my better judgement, I ordered a hibachi meal prepared in the kitchen and it was as expected. Although the scallops were cooked well, absolutely everything on the plate was swimming in a slimy, overly sweet sauce. My sushi appetizer came out after my main course had been delivered and the surf clam nigiri were little hunks of rubber. Although my server was very nice and attentive, the overall meal quality was sorely lacking. I will not return. read more

Stopped in with my wife for some NYE sushi and was pleasantly surprised. This was our first experience with Sakura and it did not disappoint. We started the meal sharing an order of kani salad and gyoza. The kani salad was decent but pretty standard in comparison to other iterations of the dish that I've tried. The gyoza were fantastic. Cooked perfectly and not gummy in texture at all, with flavors that could be easily defined. For sushi, I am more into the elaborate while my wife prefers simpler rolls, and Sakura provides a great selection of both. We ordered he Philadelphia Roll and the Wisconsin Roll. We found the Philadelphia Roll to be a bit heavy on the cream cheese but still tasted great. The Wisconsin Roll provided a nice balance of savory and heat with the addition of thin slices of jalapeno peppers topping each piece. We then went for a Shrimp Tempura Roll and an order of crab rangoon. Both items came to our table with very little wait. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was fresh and clean with the crunch of the tempura. The crab rangoon were shockingly fresh without an overwhelming onion flavor, which seems to be all to common with that type of dish. I could be wrong but the rangoon and gyoza appear to be made fresh and are not a frozen product. The service was kind and inviting. Our waitress tended to our table with a smile and the chefs behind the sushi bar thanked us as we walked out. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Looking forward to my next visit and possibly checking out the hibachi experience in the future. read more

We stop here every year when in town for EAA. Great service, great food. Not too far from the airport.

My wife and I have been here several times to dine-in and have just done take out via online ordering. In all cases, everything went extremely smooth and the food and service were great. We haven't tried many of their entrees beyond sushi, but it has been superb. I also had the bbq squid appetizer which was yummy. And don't you dare order anything without a seaweed salad on the side. My wife loves their spicy tuna roll. They have a lot of other stuff going on besides sushi including hibachi, tempura and other styles, we just haven't ventured into them (yet). Easy access off of 41, too...right on the frontage road. Exit at Hwy 21/Oshkosh/Omro. Get on the E. side frontage road (Koeller Rd) heading South. We had such hope for this place. The hibachi steak was way overdone. It tasted like it had been cooked yesterday and rewarmed and then slathered with a sauce to be served to me. The sushi fell apart. The rice was warm and the salmon roe was soggy. And it all started with the simple watered down salad and weak miso soup. Even the coca cola was flat. The bright spot was the service.
