Someone reminded me that ho fun could actually have wheat & rubber flour, so not gluten free. Also, unless they use tamari (unlikely) the soy sauce has wheat, so even is your eat rice you can't avoid gluten in Chinese food. read more

Their prices were low... now I know why. The pork chop is sliced into small slivers and some are just the batter with no meat. I couldn't taste any of the salt & pepper! The lunch special was a great deal at $11.55 and included edamame, an eggroll, soup, rice, and the entrée. Everything arrived hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Have had my eye on this place for a while since the reviews were good. I can confirm. The restaurant is spacious inside with plenty of seating. The young men that take your order are always patient and helpful. Good service. The prices are good for the portions and quality in my opinion. Nice large parking lot (same as the CVS and many other restaurants) and a good amount of seating inside. We got the shrimp fried rice, beef chow fun, sweet and sour chicken, and vegetable chop suey. Where are the veggies?? And beyond oily, tasted like it was drenched in vegetable oil. Walnut shrimp was ok, fried rice, no flavor, actually a strage flavor and plain as well. Paid $78 for this and I'm mad about it. This place had a good rating and Yelp let me down. Shouldve gone to my reguar spot. I brought home I took a bit of the Broccoli beef amazing good big portions l lots of Broccoli and carrots it was so good especially the beef it was tender and full of flavors with sauce. I have to review this little spot in montebello. Been coming here for little bit now and they never seem to miss a beat and they stay super consistent. From the orange chicken made with real orange peels and little bit of chili peppers it's absolutely perfect together. From the beef and broccoli always on point, not over cooked nor does it lack flavor. The chow Mein probably another favorite as it always cooked fresh and very tasty. Since I was in the neighborhood, I decided to give Chef Chen a try. I ordered a lunch special kung pao fish fillet, hoping to get a cup of hot and sour soup but the daily soup was cream of corn, and no substitute. I was surprised to see the kung pao fish fillet served with chopped zucchini. The fish fillet was kind of soggy, not exactly what I expected. The spicy level was tamed down to almost non-existent unless you chew on the chili pepper. My overall impression of Chef Chen is Americanized Chinese food. It seems to be very popular with people nearby. I saw a lot of people came in to pick up to-go orders. I am happy that it is doing well but I will march on. read more

Ordered the curry beef rice bowl and am currently having terrible stomach pains and think I got food poisoning. I only ate a quarter of my food because it was overwhelmingly salty and tasted off. Also the rice was mush like there was way too much water when cooked. read more
