I'm not giving a 5 star review as we were asked to move seats for absolutely no reason by the other cranky Karen server that came over after we were seated and told us to move. The restaurant was empty when we arrived and there was no reason for this. She didn't even ask us if we wanted anything to drink or if we had any questions. I've probably driven by this place hundreds of times and for some reason never stopped in to check it out until this week. I'm regretting that after yesterday's visit for lunch. There was plenty to love here and only a few small things I wouldn't even necessarily call a negative. Let's start with the parking lot. It's pretty unassuming and a little run down. The vibe just doesn't invite you in. It's shared with Sam's Club, Goodwill etc. Walking inside it is so much larger and nice so don't let the outside fool you. We came for lunch and it was pretty empty. I liked that they have a teppanyaki side and then more family, dining boot tables, etc. which also includes a regular bar and seats at the sushi bar. Service was very friendly and we had our drink orders taken quickly and left with lunch menus to go over. First thing I'll say it's pretty pricy for lunch. They have some happy hour specials, but it is more expensive than other locations nearby. I wish they had more pictures or details on the menu of what some things are. I was in the mood for sushi so I went with their sweet and spicy crunch roll while my husband chose the beef yakisoba. This is where it was a bit frustrating for me. My roll came out pretty quick. Like I said it was not busy at all. My husbands food took longer and I sat for quite a bit waiting so we could eat together. It wasn't an astronomical time or anything between but enough to where it wasn't frustrating when you're both hungry. The sushi roll was amazing. We'll put together and perfect spicy level. Our waitress said it's one of the most popular rolls. I'm not a huge fan of tempura so I wasn't sure how I'd like it, but it was wonderful. My husband's yakisoba looked amazing! He offered nec a few bites and the meat was tender, veggies prepared perfectly and wonderful flavor, he likes spicy so he added some sriracha to his liking since he didn't have much else to add to it. All in all it was a great lunch. I know I'll be back. I'd love of try to the teppanyaki. read more

Alright health class 101 putting raw chicken down first and then steak and then touching all the other food.. without cleaning that spatula off first = classic cross-contamination. That spatula doesn't get hot enough to kill the bacteria. As much as the staff is was friendly to us I should have caught this contamination in time now I've been dealing with food poisoning and it's not okay. The shrimp was over cooked and the chicken was dry I threw away my left overs before getting sick since I felt something was off about it. This establishment is quite nice. The staff is most friendly and helpful. The entire place is CAAW (Clean As A Whistle) and the food is fresh and on point. It is a larger place with Tappan on one side and table/sushi bar service on the other. It's too large to call it cozy but warm, friendly and just fine all fit nicely. It was good but we won't be back. They sat us got our drinks and soup and salad and took our order then about 5 minutes after soup and salad was given they sat more people at our table so even though we had a reservation at 530 and got sat at 530 they didn't start cooking until After 615. So we're just now on our way home. Oh and they added an 18% automatic gratuity and I'm not sure why as we were only a party of 5. The server and chef were both amazing the woman owner is the one who sat the other group super late- we also have 3 small kids so waiting 45 minutes was a lot specially for my 2 year old. The service was horrible and the lady ordering the drinks and serving the food was very aggressive and demanded my mother-in-law to come back and sit down first to order her drink before she was able to go to the bathroom after waiting for her to come back and being 10 minutes early. The chef had good tricks, but zero personality. We had two families at the table and everyone pretty much had their heads down, not wanting to get in trouble. The food was pretty good, but $15 for each large hot sake which tasted sour and possibly expired. We ended up paying ~$300.00 for a party of 5. We decided to try this place out as it is right down the street from our house instead of going to another local place that has a much more luxurious venue, atmosphere, level of service, and top notch cocktails/drinks for a great price. We joined family here last night to celebrate my nephews 14th bday. There were 12 total and we had our own table. Our server was friendly, helpful with menu selections and was quick to clear plates and refill drinks. Hubby and I started with a shared plate of tempura vegetables: Onions, broccoli, squash, carrots and sweet potato. It was very flavorful, light, crispy and fresh. The dipping sauce was also great! For our dinner we both ordered a teppanyaki grilled combo: filet and salmon for me and filet & scallops for the hubs. Our meal came with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. Small amounts of each but a nice addition to our meal. The steak portion was a good amount and very tender, same for the scallops. Unfortunately, the amount of salmon wasn't more than 6" long and barely 2" wide. Although tasty - it definitely was not worth the money. The entertainment of cooking our food is always fun to watch. It's the same everywhere you go at these types of restaurants but still enjoyable. Our total came to $118 (with 18% gratuity already added). A bit pricy without drinks but it was worth the experience. Nice to know a place like this exists just down the street. We'll be back for sure! read more

Food was wonderful . If you are a Benihana fan just know the sauces here leave a lot to be desired . The light one is basically mayonnaise. What made me give a 3 star is that the chef we had was extremely rude and unprofessional. He literally demanded a cash tip directly and held out his hands . When we said we didn't have cash he was so upset I was shocked at the reaction . The other people must have had him before or they all do that because they had cash ready to go. When we asked if he didn't get some of the tip from the check he scoffed that he had to share those . Hope that was a one time occurrence . I have no problem tipping but don't demand cash in your hand and flip out when I don't have any. read more

Went on a Friday for dinner with another family. 7 and under kids plus a 1 yr old + mommies and daddies. Now that's out of the way, I had low expectations. We haven't been to a teppanyaki/hibachi place in a long time. My 7 yr old has been asking so we surprised her as we celebrate a friends 1 yr old as well. Hosts were friendly. Our waitress was super attentive! The chef ... perfection! Food was great as always and since I'm now allergic to shrimp... I'm a bit saddened I could no longer eat it. It looks so good! Yum yum sauce is always a hit and even got extra veggies on the side. Love their veggies! The chef made sure to entertain us and he didn't disappoint. Sakura restaurant is really good. Their service is excellent and fast. They are hurmous and kind all the time the past times I've been there. The food is great as it has flavor unlike some other restaurants like in verrado. The ambiance in the room is quiet so if you like quiet places you'll enjoy it. They even play birthday song with drummers and shakers for when it's your birthday instead of the usual happy birthday at other restaurants. read more

Have to say is probably one of the worst Teppanyaki's we have had. starting from #1 most places do a shrimp toss into your mouth. These people do broccoli. #2 they do no sake fun while cooking, as most place will squirt sake in everyone's mouth. #3 we had lobster that has so much soy sauce on it. It was literally dripping the soy sauce and was super chewy, nasty possibly freezer burnt. #4 shrimp is very fishy tasting nasty gross. #5 spicy chicken should be called Sriracha chicken a ton of Sriracha chicken that's it nothing else #6 filet mignon super salty #7 don't use garlic fairy little butter #8 fried rice very little egg, just sauce,no butter no garlic nothing . We've seen this place since it opened but never tried it out till today. Glad we finally did cause the food was delicious! My husband wanted to order the steak and shrimp Teppanyaki Lunch Special but our waitress recommended the Filet Mignon & shrimp instead and said the filet mignon was much better. She was so right! It was tender and delicious! The seasoned sauce on it was really delicious. My chicken Katsu was also good but I wished they had the curry sauce for it instead. Just my preference. Was really disappointed in the service. Our person didn't want to take our drink order until after she had taken our food order. We were a large group, so with that being said we waited quite some time before we received anything. Brought our salad out and immediately serve the soup, so it sat there and got cold while we finished our salads. Never came back and checked on us, not even a drink refill. My plate was 3/4 full and she walked over and stacked another dirty plate on top of mine without even asking if I was done or would like a to go box. The worst Teppanyaki I have ever had. Very poor food quality, and the oil smelled and tasted rancid which ruined everything. The shrimp and beef had no flavor and were tough, and how can fried rice even taste bad? The oil! The sushi was not fresh and had a tempura shrimp that was cooked days ago and was cold and doughy. Went in to celebrate a birthday dinner for our daughter. The food was just pretty mid to be honest. Hibachi chef was an older Asian guy who didn't smile much or talk for that matter. He asked our preferences on our steak and cooked. We did get a burst of fire and a fire onion volcano, but I did specify it was to celebrate a birthday to our server. I was offered ice cream after the staff came out to sing "Happy Birthday" and they charged me $9 for vanilla ice cream. Holy shit!!!! I've never been charged for bday ice cream.
