Another great dinner last night. We tried dining at Kawaii Sushi and Asian Cuisine-Vistancia that opened 3 weeks ago but the wait for 5 was an hour without reservation. We changed plans and headed to a familiar spot for us, Squid Ink. Restaurant was bustling on a Saturday evening with live music. We were seated right away. Service was a little slow but good. Worth it because food was very good. I asked to sub soba noodles for rice for my salmon and it came out perfectly. Men's and women's restrooms for customers. Outdoor shaded patio with misters. My large party (11 plus a baby) had a great experience here! We walked in and to our surprise, they had a table big enough to seat us at right away. The dining room was on the moderate side with a bar and outdoor seating, too. The service was fast and friendly and our server was super accommodating in splitting up checks for our large group. My family members that ordered sushi said it was AWESOME--the nigiri and the rolls. I wasn't in the mood for sushi and ordered the Korean sticky ribs and Tokyo frites. My meal was good and the flavor of the ribs were tasty, but somewhat dry. The dipping sauces for the fries were bomb. Cocktails were tasty but nothing special, IMO. And the best part for me was the dessert - the Hawaii Bread Pudding was 10/10. I would come back just for that bread pudding. read more

Fun ambiance and friendly staff. Started with the tempura green beans and they were fantastic ! Just lightly battered and crisp, I hated the sauce it came with almost a bitter tart flavor so I just used soy sauce. Okay this is an odd thing or perhaps I missed something......the sushi paper menu arrived with no pencil and just listed names of items not what happened to he in those said items. Figured the menu would surely breakdown the different rolls but IIT DIDN"T. So I had to ask our server what was in several things, she was pretty knowledgeable but did have to check with the chefs once to confirm. We ended up having the soft shell crab roll which didn't have a lot of crab in it, spicy tuna that was fantastic and another roll I forgot what she told me was in it but it was doused in eel sauce and ungodly sweet. Everything tasted good aside from the one roll but I probably won't be back until I can read what a roll consists of instead of going in blind or having to have the server explain each one.....annoying. read more

Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 Food 2/10 The ambiance is really nice. It's a very clean restaurant. We went at 2:30pm on a Sunday and it was less than half full. Their menu is laid out well and it appears they like things a little spicy here. We started with the crab rangoons, which were stuffed well, but for us the sauce doesn't pair very well with them (Asian chili sauce). The rangoons unfortunately tasted really fake (imitation crab, as some sushi restaurants do) but these tasted more so. I asked our server and they actually don't serve any real crab here. I wish their menu would state that, as many of our fishes had krab but again tasted off. We finished with the rice pudding brûlée and I have to say this was an interesting take on the popular dessert. The fruit was very macerated which I wish their menu dish had more of, as it is a very sweet dessert with the sugar top. Initial impression was that we wouldn't come back but if we did we'd try all new stuff. Although it looks great inside and the servers are working for the money, the food is what it's all about. Prices without alcohol came out to about $50 a person. read more

Came in on a Monday night around 6:30. It was busy but nit crowded. Bar seating and table seating both available. The server was friendly and the food was good. Ordered the Banana Gun drink, wasn't what I expected, it was mire like an iced espresso, couldn't really taste the alcohol but it was good. Ordered poppers to start, They were a delicious starter, the Cougar roll was delicious as well and the Thai Chicken fried rice finished it off. To full for dessert, maybe next time. read more

We stopped into Squid Ink on a Saturday night and luckily snagged a table in the bar--just a heads-up, they don't take reservations, so timing is everything! The place has a cool, laid-back vibe with a great patio outside (bonus points for the misters). The bartender was super friendly and really helpful with suggestions. We started with the Korean Sticky ribs as an appetizer--so flavorful and tender. For dinner, we had the chef special: chicken curry ramen with a fried egg on top. That dish totally stole the show. So comforting, perfectly seasoned, and the egg on top was a great touch. I had the spicy yellowtail poke bowl with half rice, half greens. It was fresh and had great texture, but I think it needed a little dressing to tie it all together. As for drinks--we tried the tequila old-fashioned, which was smooth and well-balanced, garnished with a Luxardo cherry and orange slice (yes, please). I went with the Fancy AF cocktail, and it was just that--super refreshing and light. The restaurant is spacious, clean and bright. The only thing that concerned me was seeing the yelp health score of this restaurant which is rated as an R with 2 violations. I didn't see that until weeks after our visit. I haven't been successful in finding out what an R rating means. I recommend this restaurant. The service is good. The sushi is decent. I didn't care for the pot stickers, but the hamachi Kama was very good. They always seem to have live music. The musicians are ok, but people aren't coming there for the music and it makes it very difficult to hear someone at your own table. I'd lose that as it doesn't add anything. read more

We were seated next to a table of 4 older patrons who brought their small chihuahua dog inside the building. The dog sat on one of the women's laps, who allowed the dog to eat off her plate and drink water out of the soy dish. It's absolutely disgusting that a dog, clearly not a service dog, was allowed inside of the building when there was an outdoor space and more so to allow these patrons to feed and water their pet off of your dishes. Dishes that other patrons will eat and drink from. We left as soon as our plates arrived and did not eat at this establishment. There is a camera above the table I'm speaking of, so you can review for yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a visit from a health inspector on the horizon. Squid Ink Sushi is a fun dinner place with attention to detail and great customer service! We were visiting Family and came here for dinner. They have plenty of Sushi and extensive menu options like the crab rangoon appetizer. We went as a large group and ordered lots of sushi as well as chicken tenders for the kids. The service was great, they accompanied us with the big table and it helped that we showed up early because of the kids. We ordered dessert and they threw in a couple of scoops of ice cream for the kids. Overall, it was a fun experience! We liked the food and everyone had a great time. The Sushi was delicious and we all liked our dishes. Hope we come back next time we're in town. Stop by if you're in the Northern Phoenix area and in the mood for Sushi. read more

this is my favorite place! I personally don't eat seafood/fish but I love that I have options. I always get the buffalo chicken roll and avocado roll, and occasionally the tempura asparagus roll. The buffalo roll is the best thing and I could eat it daily. My one thing is I wish they had kept the original size of it vs making it smaller for the same price. I do feel like for its size now it is closer to being a $14 roll vs $16 but that doesn't prevent me from getting it every time. Service is usually great each time we come in as well expect for at the beginning. I do feel like we wait a bit of time once seated but I believe they do have an opportunity for staffing. Only other thing is the consistency of the surf and turf roll. My hubby loves a lot of their rolls but the meat on top if this roll is never the same. It's either perfect, over torched, or practically raw. I do think that providing the same experience is key when it comes to a sushi roll and finding a standard method for all chefs would be beneficial. read more

Don't waste your time and money on Squid Ink. They advertise 50% off happy hour before 7:00pm all the time. On a tight budget, but wanting to experience good food (we love sushi) we've gone to their happy hours, ALWAYS BEFORE 7:00pm, but have never received 50% off of anything . . . food, drinks, nothing. They will charge you 100% despite advertising 50% off before 7:00pm. It's a nice restaurant otherwise, great location, just deceitful. There are plenty of other places that will earn your business legitimately. Also, tip you wait staff no matter where you dine. They work hard!!! read more

I went there twice with my wife and 2 service dogs which they had no problem with.today the third time the hostess said that we couldn't bring our service dogs in until my wife spoke with the owner he claimed that one of them left a present and were we were sitting was dark and hard to see so if I seen it I would have cleaned it up. We have been meaning to try this place for awhile and happened to be in the area Saturday afternoon. We were wanting to get home so we ordered takeout. We got two rainbow poke bowls and a teriyaki bowl. Place seemed clean and the staff was friendly. We probably would have gone back to dine in but our experience with the food was not good. First off I found several pieces of black plastic in my bowl. A couple were pointed like the tine of a fork. Then we both had stomach issues after eating. Should have known from the moment I stepped in... not a single Asian employee (to include in the kitchen and behind the sushi counter). My miso soup was covered in mushrooms haha. I legit laughed as I fished it all out. Never had miso soup with portobello mushrooms. My friends crab rangoons were either a bite of cream cheese or a bite of crab. I love Squid for a tasty Asian bite. It's got a bit of anything, not just sushi. I consider it one of the better sushi restaurants in North Phoenix with a price tag that matches that. We love the shrimp coconut curry and tempura green beans and the Ultimate Philly and East Meets West sushi rolls. The restaurant is usually full so sometimes we call ahead and order take out to eat at home. It reheats well and they always pack extra dipping sauce. Great for a date night out or to treat yourself. This place has really gone downhill and is not the same as it used to be. The food is priced outrageously now compared to what you would get across the way at Harumi! To top it off, if you call for a to go order at night - you will get told that to go orders are closed when they still have 48 mins left before they actually close! This has happened on more than one occasion. Another time I was told that they can't take my order because they are busy! I do not recommend this place. They closed downtown and hopefully they close this location so we can get a restaurant that actually serves its customers. read more
