I had never been to a Benihana before; I have been to many tepanyaki restaurants, but not Benihana. The check in process was interesting. I arrived before my brother, and let the people know I was there for a 6pm reservation (10min early). At 5:55, another guy at the desk started calling for our reservation, and I said, I was waiting for my brother (still 5 minutes before our time). At 5:58, I was asked if he was even coming (still 2 minutes before our reservation time). My brother walked in at 5:59 -- early for the reservation. The guy looked perturbed. I mean, come on, we were there, and on time, but we came from different areas of the metro. The service at the table was good. Pedro was the chef, he was entertaining. The food was good. It was 64° in the dining area (see photo), and we were genuinely cold the entire time. We asked about it and were told the thermostat is controlled remotely and couldn't be adjusted. Even staff mentioned it's tough working in those conditions. Other tables were complaining too! When both customers and employees are uncomfortable, it takes away from the whole experience. Came for a birthday dinner with a large group. Luckily we had reservations because the place was packed. Not our first time so ordering our meals went quick. Personally, went with steak and lobster. Our teppanyaki chef was very friendly and entertaining the entire time. We got all the usual egg/food tosses, volcano fire, and fried rice heart throbs haha. Stick to what works right? We came here for dinner on Christmas night as a party of three and had a 6:45 PM reservation. They were running about 30 minutes behind, so we didn't get seated until around 7:20 PM. It was very busy, which is understandable for a holiday. Once we were seated, things moved pretty smoothly. The wait to order and receive our food wasn't long at all. Our server, Ambiance, was excellent--very attentive, friendly, and on top of everything despite how busy the restaurant was. The inside is big and spacious, so it didn't feel overly crowded. We enjoyed our meals, and my seafood was prepared well and tasted great. It was the Spirit Airlines of hibachi except the price was the equivalent and first class tickets on an international flight. I ordered the hibachi chicken ($38). If I wanted the chicken cooked in a sauce, such as teriyaki, it was +$2. I ordered it without sauce because I thought they had a house sauce or something..no, it was just plain chicken. It was +$6.50 for fried rice instead of steamed white rice and there's ..I wouldn't say diced vegetables in the fried rice. More like shaved carrots and onions that were then minced. The vegetables that come with the meal equaled to 4 pieces of zucchini and a scoop of onions. Did the food taste good? Yes. The chef was also nice. But the price for what you get? No. Go somewhere else and get bigger bang for your buck. You're probably thinking, hey, you're paying for the atmosphere too! Let me reassure that the atmosphere was chaotic and messy at best. The floor was somehow sticky and slippery at the same time. It was so loud with people singing constantly on top of the normal hibachi show. There was maybe one Japanese chef, a chef behind me was belting out "This Grill is on Fire" like he was trying to audition for a singing competition, and there was a group with going table to table singing Happy Birthday because so many people go here to celebrate birthdays--I stopped counting after the 7th rendition. Our waitress was rude. She chastised me for asking if we could order a side of rice for our toddler, mixed up the hibachi orders to the point the chef had to go reprint it, and made such a complaint about ordering sushi that my spouse ended up telling her to just forget it and ordered hibachi instead. If you cannot, accomodate that large of a party and your regular reservations, then don't. Then, we didn't get a server to our table until 9:34p to take our drinks order. What's not to love about dinner and a show? I've only been to Benihana on one other occasion, but my most recent visit to this location solidified this as a solid spot for a larger family meal! I will say that the service here is pretty dang slow. We had a reservation, and ended up waiting around 40 minutes past our arrival time for a table. Once we were finally seated, it took another 20+ minutes for our hibachi chef to arrive. I'm all for giving restaurants the benefit of the doubt, especially during the very busy holiday season, but this was a pretty substantial wait. From reading other reviews, it sounds like this is sadly the norm at this location. Even still, here's my advice: have a snack before you arrive and be patient ... the food really is worth the wait! Our hibachi chef was Tony, and he was a hoot! Just the right amount of funny and engaging while cooking up golden fried rice, saucy teriyaki chicken, perfectly cooked steak, and their signature shrimp and vegetable appetizers. I made a reservation for 4 on Thanksgiving and when we got there we still had to wait about 30 minutes before being seated. The reason we were given for the wait when we were checking in, was that the party at the table they needed to sit us at were visiting. They already ate and paid, but they were sitting there talking. I feel when it comes to holidays management should be able to move people along after a certain amount of time once everything is paid and done. Once we were seated the male employee who told us he was some sort manager, maybe front of the house or guest relations I don't recall, told us we were a party of 5 not 4 and that is a problem. We had our baby with us and I was carrying him. The manager assumed he would need a high chair and brought us one after telling us rudely that it was a problem we were 5 people. I had to tell the waitress to take it away because we did not need it. He could've asked age or if we would even need a high chair which would've saved him running around to grab one and bring it to the table. 1st off our 5th is a baby who does not even sit up on his own yet he just turned 5 months. He is a big baby but you could tell he is a baby. 2nd, he doesn't even eat food because he's too young! I was holding him the whole time and planned on it since I didn't feel a stroller would work in this situation. Other than those first interactions, the food and chef Tony were great. We were there celebrating my son's 6th bday and the chef did great with the table and our kids. The food was delicious as well. My fiancé and I went last night for dinner, and we had a wonderful time. The hosts were very friendly, we were sat at a Tenpan table very quickly, and a manager named Tony sat us and explained the experience and was very funny. Our server, Tyree, was nice and super on everything. He took our orders, explained a special, and kept our drinks full. We ate a few different things but unfortunately I kept forgetting to take pictures cause I was hungry. The restaurant was lively and fun, and very clean which is a feat - it was so busy. Oh! Our Hibachi chefs was "Tim" We ordered a cocktail (wine & a pumpkin side car) At that time we ordered a sushi roll (specifying we wanted it as an appetizer) The waitress (Alexandria) left to place orders. Our table sat silent for 10-15 minuets. Then we placed our main dish order. I ordered the filet mignon medallions with mushrooms, and my friend ordered the Emperor's feast (filet & chicken) we both got fried rice, which is an up charge. The Hibachi chef returned only to leave again for 10mins. We received the miso soup (terrible) Still waiting on our drinks & app to be delivered. The whole experience was a complete FLOP. Nobody could hear the hibachi chef, because it was so loud in there, our main dishes were done before even getting our sushi roll (We had to ask the waitress AGAIN about) You could tell the hibachi chef did not like his job. He wasn't friendly at all, and had a scowl on his face almost the entire time. We were not the only patrons that noticed. The hibachi fried rice was flavorless, and my FILET MINION was overcooked, even asking for it to be medium rare. Our drinks finally came 30mins after ordering. The sushi roll was delicious. THE ONLY GOOD TAKE AWAY FROM THAT ESTABLISHMENT WAS THE PUMPKIN PURÉE SIDECAR DRINK, AND THE SUSHI ROLL WE ORDERED. $180 for 2 people w/o tip was insane. The pumpkin side car (4oz pour) was $17. We had really high expectations because it's been a while since we've been to a Benihana's. The last one I went to was in Chandler with my family and we had a really good time, but it was the five years ago. I assumed since this one was in Scottsdale, it would be even nicer than the one in Chandler. I was very surprised at the condition of this location. It looked like it hadn't been remodeled for at least 20 years, the atmosphere was very dated dusty and looked like they hadn't invested anything in years. Even the cook came to start cooking his white coat looked like it was gray severely stained. Definitely no pride. The people at the table all complained about the steak and the condition the food quality. The waitress provided drinks to only half the table and left us waiting for nearly 20 minutes, even to get our water. A couple next to us indicated they had been there before and they were giving it a second chance because the first time they went, it was really horrible service. We came here tonight for a 7:00 reservation. Upon arrival we were told their power went out and they were running about 25 minutes behind... I understand that things happen but we have 2 toddlers and so this information was important for us to know because we could have planned better. What's the point of booking a reservation when you still have to wait a while. At 7:25 I asked when we were going to be seated. The manager was snappy with me saying he was working on it. Umm okay... then at 7:35 I asked again, he told us we were going to be seated now. It was still an additional 5 minutes. Once seated the server took our drink orders, she was rude, she said we snappy with my adult sister and honestly not professional. We ordered food, again the server was snappy (I understand that it was a stressful day because of the power outage but that wasn't our fault nor there, so it wasn't a reason to be hostile and snappy) the chef James was really great and attentive to my little kids and is really the reason I am not leaving a 1 star review. Overall it was only an okay experience because of him, the manager and the server weren't great and were even mean honestly. From a 7pm reservation, we didn't get our soup and salad until 8:15, food finished until 9:15 and left at 9:25. Overall that's not okay. Salad was small, kind of an interesting sauce instead of dressing. All very good. I will say there were six of us; and I did not look at the detailed bill.
