Steak night special
Victoria P.

I came here originally for Coolinary but ended up doing the steak night special. I had reservations for 6:00pm. I arrived at 5:55 and the hostess said my table would be ready in 10 minutes once the couple who was sitting there got up. I went to sit at the bar and realized I had a few minutes left of happy hour so I got truffle fries, a dirty martini and a blueberry lemon drop. All of these were great but it was 6:20pm before our table was finally ready which is a bit ridiculous. Fast forward, we ended up ordering the steak night meal, the brussel sprout appetizer and a side of Alfredo pasta. Everything was flavorless and dry. Salt and pepper couldn't even help. I'd come back for happy hour drinks and fries for sure but I don't have any desire to eat here again unfortunately

Gulf fish tacos

Good eats!! The two of us got ambitious. Appetizer: brussels sprouts, spinach and artichoke dip, herb truffle fries. Split an order of Gulf fish tacos. Entrees: she had Gulf fish almandine (today it was sheepshead) and I had about two bites of my panné veal, but only because I was so full! Everything was delicious. Nancy was absolute aces.

Went for Coolinary and really enjoyed the experience. I had the steak tacos, which were a little heavy on the cheese but still pretty good. The fries were tasty, and the pork chop was outstanding--definitely a highlight. The corn and crab soup and berry salad were both fresh and flavorful. For dessert, the red velvet cake and lemon cream cake were delicious and a perfect finish to the meal. At $44, the menu was absolutely worth it!

The Kentucky Hot Brown at Sala is the best breakfast in the city! It's a must try, you won't be sorry.

Decided to go here for a birthday brunch. Made reservations online and was quickly seated when we arrived. It looked nice on the inside, and was glad we were seated at a booth. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I had on my birthday headband and the waitress brought out an order of zeppole with a candle which was nice of her. It was really good, and I think it was the best thing we had there. Myself and another friend ordered the west end breakfast bowl, another ordered the traditional Benedict, and my other friend ordered the Lakefront BLT. The breakfast bowl was fine but very basic. Nothing special about it and we had to add some salt and pepper. My friend said the Benedict was good and my other friend said she enjoyed her BLT. They also said the strawberry lemonades were good. I'm not sure if I need to go back for brunch, but the dinner menu looks pretty good so I may go back for that.

We love a good happy hour and nice outdoor seating when the weather is right ! I enjoyed the happy hour drinks with my spinach in artichoke dip.

Visited today and had a great experience! I love going to restaurants on the lake, I love being on the lake in general. Today was actually my first time after driving by this restaurant multiple times. While dinning, I only ordered small bites as I was passing time on the way to an event. I ordered the truffle fries + bang bang shrimp, and of course drinks. The shrimp were very tasty and good, some of the best bang bang shrimp I've had. The fries were really greasy but still fine-- I probably wouldn't order those again. Tiffany was at the bar on the drinks and she is great. My drinks were made perfectly. The atmosphere of this place is casual. It was dead today when I visited. I can see this restaurant being a nice meet up spot for friends. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon.

I can't believe I haven't left a review for this place yet. One of the most underrated places in New Orleans!!! A great place to feel fancy without breaking the bank. Service is always top notch. I've been coming to steak night on Wednesday's for about a year now. Such a steal!! Steak night is $35 per person and includes: An 8oz filet, loaded mashed potatoes, and a side salad. It's all SO delicious and i'm always SO full afterwards. Plus, if you go between 4-6 it's happy hour! So, double deals! One of the best deals in the city for sure.

Blueberry on top of two pancakes

Blueberry on top of two pancakes were very good. I do wish blueberries were also in the pancakes. Service was very good. Our other dish was two eggs, biscuit and grits another very good breakfast plate. Inside is nice nothing fancy but nice and relaxing.

This was a grits bowl with all the yumminess and a homemade biscuit on the side! I'll definitely be going back for this !

Bang bang shrimp and truffle fries

We went for happy hour and that was a great choice! We had the bang bang shrimp which were banging. The truffle fries and we ordered the Brussels sprouts which wasn't apart of the HH. All great and filling. We have to come back for the Wednesday steak night special. Please don't make me rave about the tasty $6 blueberry lemon drops!! Food was delivered in a timely manner and waitress was attentive.

Best irish coffee in the city!
Jamie B.

I have come here two or three times and the food is always just mediocre. I want to like their menu especially when I heard they were bringing Riccobono's Peppermill breakfast back, but it just isn't the same. The Irish coffee was probably the only good tasting item I had on our most recent visit on March 30. The service was ridiculously slow. It took about 10 minutes to get drink orders in and then after we ordered 20 minutes after that, it took an hour before the food came out. No explanation or appolgies either. And the place was nearly empty with the exception of one large group of about 12 people. I ordered the smoked salmon benedict and honestly the salmon was so fishy, I just could not finish it and ate around it. I have come here for dinner as well, and again, mediocre. Their cocktails were spot on and it was Christmas themed cocktails, too! And the service was much better and ironically, the restaurant had more people dinning, go figure. It is a nice location and nice space, but I don't want to eat here anymore. They excel in making craft cocktails and if I come back, I will come back for one of their very well made and tasty cocktails.

Went there for Sunday Brunch and everything was Nice ! Very relaxed ambiance and both the food and drinks were good . Shoutout to our server Sam. He took good care of us !

This was particularly disappointing. The tenders were mushy...the waffle dense...the potatoes cold.

Russell's has become a Lakeview institution. The decor remains firmly rooted in the 1980s. a time…read morewhen I lived down the street and was happy to see a Camellia Grill inspired eatery open five doors down. (My old shotgun apartment was sold and torn down to make way for another high-rise Tower that was never built and now there's a big grassy field where my place used to be). My memory is that Russell started with more conventional diner menu, but his since specialized in a New Orleans way. A large variety of egg benedict options now headlines the menu. There are also some creative omelets, including one with fried oysters and remoulade sauce. I was going to get one of those but I kept seeing these delightful fluffy looking pancakes coming out of the kitchen. I opted instead for a short stack and a breakfast sandwich. The pancakes were perfect, tasting is good as they looked. The breakfast sandwich was on grilled bread like a panini with egg and bacon. Tasty. Hash browns or small nuggets of potato, not the best but preferable to the shredded potato hash browns at say Waffle House. Coffee with hot fresh and refilled frequently. Sitting at the bar, I was across from the fresh orange juice station. After staring at a pitcher of fresh weezed orange juice as I ate, I had to get some. That was great, and the generous portion wasn't served in a thimble-sized glass. The atmosphere is loud and convivial. On a Saturday morning is mostly locals. Special mention for the friendly service. The wait staff work together and seem like long timers. They recognize the number of customers as regulars as they came in. That's the kind of atmosphere you can't make up or buy from Sysco. Five stars, because diners like this are getting harder to find in Russell's distinguishes itself with some truly unique dishes.

It looks high in the dessert case but is non existent and rubbery in real life. It's like a bite of sweetened condensed milk. The photo is after one bite.
